In this video, we take a pair of Made in America Origin boots, and we give them a makeover. Origin boots is partially owned by former Navy Seal, author and podcaster, Jocko Willink. We take this pair of boots apart and give our opinion on the quality of this brand. These particular boots are used to travel the world by the TH-camr JD Huitt from The History Underground. He wanted a little more comfort on explorations, so that's what we tried to give him. Time for another restoration!

Until I started watching you guys, I never knew that cobbling was not only a craft, but there’s truly and art to it also!
We appreciate you watching!
Never thought I’d see 2 of some of my favorite TH-cam channels coming together!
WOW!! Talk about flashback! 60+ years ago, while in high school, one of our hangouts was a local cobbler. I can't count the number of shoes I watched him rebuild. Here in New England, shoe manufacture was a prime industry. Watching you use the tools to rebuild those boots was amazing!
The company that built those boots has facilities about 20 miles from me. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
My dad always used sno seal on his boots. He'd place them in a warm oven, cracked open, for about 15 minutes. Take them out and apply sno seal. I used it yesterday on a leather laptop briefcase, using a heat gun to warm the leather. Soaks right in. I prefer it over most other products. You can even apply it to axe handles, if they're bare wood. I use 3 that I've done that to. The wood soaks it up when heated.
History underground is the channel for history. Ive been following JD since almost the beginning.
Chloroform more like boroform!!😂😂😂 love the Billy Madison reference!!!!
th-cam.com/video/-XP7yflhOtE/w-d-xo.html
Chloroform is a trihalomethane that serves as a powerful anesthetic, euphoriant, anxiolytic, and sedative when inhaled or ingested.
You get high from huffing it. Not that it's the reason why these guys are smiling so much.
JD and his channel are highly underrated. Really cool to see what goes into redoing a pair of Origin boots. After thinking about it, I really like the sanded Christy and 148. The added comfort and traction will completely transform this boot.
He's got a great channel.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. These guys' handshakes must be legendary 🤣Yet another great video, fellas!
I have a pair of Origin Lincoln boots. They were pretty comfortable out of the box. Now that I've been wearing them regularly for two months, they are very comfortable. I have no doubt they will last me for years. Thank you for showing the construction method on these boots.
I’ve always loved the comfort of the cristy soles but I’ve always thought it would be cool to have a cristy with more tread and durability. And here it is! Genius!
I like the 2 sole construction....Love these videos....something so satisfying about seeing boots reborn. You guys have the best job in the world...really.
Awesome! I am a huge fan of JD’s channel and seeing his boots redone is so cool! Thanks for this!
Those boots look great and having a wide foot makes me very partial to the fit. Origin definitely appears to have a great manufacturing process. Of course you guys nailed it on the resole work AGAIN. Love history underground
Just want to say thank you for doing such a great job on those special boots. I’ve seen all of JDs video and I’ve seen the places they have been. They definitely needed a make over.
Just got my first Origin boots. Right out the box very comfortable. Love the design and they feel every bit worth the price.
Mad respect for keeping american heritage of craftsmanship alive
When I saw you put those wedges on that boot is did the Darth Vader "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" In the end, what a great idea.
Impressive work done on these boots. Hand stitching is the only way to go for perfect alignment. Great result.
JD is going to LOVE these stompers!!! GR8 job guys!
First time here after the recommendation of The History Underground channel. This is super interesting! I has subscribed and will be looking forward to more of your content.
Absolutely fascinating!!!! Awesome stuff gentlemen and wish you guys nothing but success moving forward!!
As usual, beautiful work guys! Thank you so much for sharing!
My two favorite channels of the moment merged together ! Love it
I bought my Origins around the time they started, had a lead time for the Covid stuff so I waited a bit. They are a heavy boot , I got their whiskey logger and I work heavy construction in Hawaii, so lots of lava work , Hawaii tends to tear boots to shreds. These boots are very comfortable, provide a bunch of ankle support, waterproof, haven’t had a wet sock once and I live in tropical rain forest conditions. They squeak a bit when I walk, it’s likely the vibram sole, only notice it when in the store on a slow day, otherwise, highly recommend these to guys who want a boot to last at about $400
you get a like. for the "boreform" joke. I was half watching this while working, and that cracked me up for some reason.
Wow, just wow. Those boots are stunning. Must be so comfy. Well done guys.
I have a lot of respect for these boots and the company. Would love to see this exact re-sole done on a pair of Iron Rangers. 🤔
Oh cool, an iron ranger hipster.
@@Kingfisher1215wow a hater on the internet, so unique
@@3ZN357iron rangers are barely even boots, nobody wants to see that
What's wrong with iron rangers? I lovecmine just as much as I love my whites MPs or JK OTs..
@@Kingfisher1215lmao “iron ranger hipster” how “original” literally can’t imagine what else pushes those marbles around your skull
Amazing work! And I absolutely love JDs History Underground channel! Best history content on the internet.
Love seeing craftsmen do the work, great job, keep it up!
Another one! Great job guys! Never saw that combo done before, so that’s a first for me!
What a fascinating video to watch. I learned a lot about boot reconstruction AND the great job you do with reconstructing them.
Love watching the craftmanship these guys put into a rebuild. Would love to see an hour meter on the time it takes to do the rebuilds.
I have a pair of Origin steel toe work boots. They are amount my favorite boots I’ve worn over my 30 years in steele toe boots. Enjoyed this video and seeing you guys dissect these boots.
JD is the bomb! Awesome channel- great job, guys!
And thank you for the tips. Black Friday xmas shopoing done and now heading to JD's site! Thanks fellas
I truly am amazed watching your craft !
Thanks so much! We appreciate you watching.
Awesome work gents!!!
Very cool video! I hope that these boots keep on trekking for this TH-cam adventurer!!!! He makes some awesome content!!!!!!!!! Great rebuild brothers :)
JD is awesome and his channel is great! Classic boots there
This was great. Learned a ton and had a good time doing so!
Love the Billy Madison reference!
Wow, I never saw that procedure before. Great job, guys!!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
Absolutely incredible!!! True craftsman and professionals of the trade!! Great job! I truly enjoy watching masters of trade doing their thing.... Awesome
I’m a fan of JD too.👍🏻
Great channel!
I'm glad to see this video. I have a pair of origin boots in buffalo leather. They are great boots. I'm glad to see that they(mostly) stand up to the T&H quality check! Thanks guys!
Amazing craftmanship, cant believe I just watched this but very interesting
Nicely worn pair of boots. I've used Sno Seal for over 40 years. Love it!
Good stuff!
I'm a fan of Sno Seal as well! Probably been only using it for 30 years though! ;)
@@kd5byb
I also found that Sno Seal is good for chapped hands. Before I retired, my job had me outdoors a lot with wet hands. In the winter Sno Seal worked wonders on cracked, bleeding knuckles.
@@tedhart7708 I'm going to have to try it! In the winter my hands get super-cracked. Been using "working hands" which does okay and will try out Sno Seal! :)
The massive skill, DECADES of experience it takes, to make it look so easy. Respect.
G’day and greetings from Tasmania Australia well that was different I have never seen that done before and it really shows your great skills, thank you for filming that I found that very interesting, kind regards John
Great work gentlemen!
Outstanding job!!
I waited for this video guys! I watch his videos a lot as I love WW2 documentaries. I hope he's pleased 😀
Sanding those Christy soles broke my heart. I love it! 😂
Gotta appreciate the thought that goes along with and the intent for the use of the boot; they're tried & true with what should definitely more comfort! I believe it'll work! Be Safe
JD referred me to your channel. Enjoyed the video of boot rebuild. I'll be checking out the boots you make. Thanks from Western Michigan!
Love to watch y’all work. My hands hurt when I do though.
Long time no talk Potters. Glad to see you guys doing well. Came across my YT feed and I loved the video. Well produced and love the craftsmanship!
It's great to see you at work again. It's probably warm and sunny in Tennessee. It's snowing in Radomsko, winter is coming :) Greetings from Poland.
Thanks so much for watching! It’s not snowing yet here in Tennessee. Very fall weather so far. 🇵🇱👍
Great video, was looking forward tonyou guys laying hands on some Origins. Thanks a lot !
Amazing to watch artists at work.
Great job guys.
Greetings from South Africa. Excellent work guys. 5pm on a Saturday. Essential viewing.
Thanks so much! We really appreciate you watching.
Another great job guys!!! Always enjoy seeing your techniques, to see how they differ from mine and what we do the same! Keep it up! G
These turned out great guys!
Thanks! Enjoyed seeing how your boots are made. Well done!
Highly informative, great information about how the difference in the type and shape of the insoles can make a difference in the comfort of the shoes or boots
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, that's a lot of work.
As someone who sadly has very few practical skills, I found it fascinating watching you guys work.
Greetings from the UK 😎
They looks awesome havent seen a resole like that before! I need the get my wedge soles re done that way for longevity!
Looks Fantastic!!!
History Underground and JD are both fantastic! An honor to recraft his boots.
As usual, boots turned out great and I love JDs channel also
This is really cool to see, I have a pair of Nick's Hardwear Pro on order that are kind of the same idea with the thick EVA midsole and then a Vibram Sierra lug sole, so you get the beefy-boi boot but with a bit more cushion! Awesome work as always, guys!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
I’ve seen the Vibram Christie soles sanded down and used as a midsole before. I’ve seen it enough that it makes me wonder why Vibram does not sell the material as a midsole.
Great job. I hope you sent the old soles back to JD too though. The soles are what were actually touching the ground in all those amazing places.
Very interesting making a dual density outsole like that
That's an inktristink pair of hoof-covers right there. Never heard of them, but, like 'em. Never seen the soles done like that either. I like 'em! Gotta keep the dogs from barking. Good stuff, and pleased to see the hand-stitching to keep the integrity of the original stitch holes.
Gentlemen you did JD's boots, Justice.
This is amazing!
Nice job guyz👍
I think this is the boot @originmaine wanted to make! I have the Christy soled Coronado and would love the double sole version you did. Great video!
Good to see them holding up quite well, so far for him! I'm glad you guys specified at the end whether he was using the insert or not, because my biggest question was going to be how well the Poron insole was holding up. I guess I'll be a good use case scenario for mine as they wear to see how well the Poron holds up, since I had to remove my inserts and am rocking just the Poron because my feet are so wide. It was the only way I could personally do to get these boots to fit comfortably for my own foot shape. Now that they're nearly fully broken in, I'd probably be able to go back to the insert as far as the width is concerned, but it just ends up putting my heel up too high too, so it really doesn't seat in the heel counter properly when inserted. Even just with just the Poron insole, they're extremely comfortable. I'd estimate I only have about 20-25 miles on mine so far in the couple months I've owned them, but the Christy outsole is wearing even better than I thought too. I think for the money, they're really tough to beat, which is exactly why I purchased them! Thanks for highlighting them, dudes!!!
Thanks! We appreciate your feedback on the boots. It’s always helpful to others as well who may consider buying a pair.
As serious as you guys usually are the chloroform joke was awesome
I have a pair of Georgia Boots that i had since 2007 an they been soled twice. My daddy always said a good pair of boots will last you a life time aslong as you keep them minked up.
17yrs later an still they are waterprof an comfy. They look warn on the leathers but still a solid boot. I comend yall on the fine boot restoration an resole jobs.
Great video! How would the Vibram honey lug have performed instead of the wedge + outsole? I heard that they were decently squishy. Thanks!
I really like the christy combined with the 148. I had mine resoled with the vibram gumline. Much more comfy the the original but only lasted me a few months before they were worn almost smooth.
Jim Green has a sole just like this for their new Baobab boot, definitely a comfortable yet durable design. I’ve heard many stories of the soles on these Origins coming off very prematurely so it’s always steered me away from trying a pair.
Origin uses screws in the sole on there new boots to stop the sole from coming off I have the same pair as in the video with the big lug soles and they have 5 screws in the toe best boots I ever owed
Yeah lotta reviews of them being sub par quality did the same for me. They have a ways to go before they become worth buying. We aren't missing anything. I like their product, though.
Just thought I'd follow the link from JD's channel, been following him for a couple of years. I had no idea how much time, work and craftsmanship goes into refurbishing a pair of boots. I live in the Nashville area, so I'll keep you in mind!
Origin makes good stuff, totally great to see stuff USA made. Also they have a factory outlet store and that stuff ain’t bad either and at a good price. Worthwhile to visit their site
It's funny I just came across this video. I just sent my therogoods to Rushing Shoe Repair for this set up. He does awesome work and takes mail ins. Show your love to all those little mom and pop shops out there.
Liked for the Chloroform/Boroform joke lol great video! You guys do awesome work.
Great job 👏🏾 guys
Reminds me of my tyre tred Jim Greens. Nice!
Very cool!
Gracias señores.. buen trabajo
This reminds me it's time to snoseal my winter dress boots.
Everyone can skip ahead to 10:49 . That's where you can see Forrest.
Sometimes I wonder about the time and money put into restoring an old pair of boots or shoes. This time it makes perfect sense, great rebuild. Thanks for another excellent video!
We see this comment A LOT on every single video, and I think what most people in todays world don’t understand is that really good shoe cobblers in today’s society are like classic car restoration specialists. Most people are not driving old classic cars, and most people would ask “WHY would anyone want to spend tens of thousands of dollars on an old beat up car when they can go buy a new one?!” Well, it’s because the owners of those cars, or shoes/boots in this case, LOVE that particular pair and don’t want to throw them away and get a new pair. That’s what the world tells you to do nowadays. What Heath and I do in our videos is often times above and beyond what most cobblers would do to a shoe. It’s the little intricate things that make the difference, and that’s why shoe aficionados want to send their stuff to us and some others. I have a 65 Mustang that is a straight six cylinder and wouldn’t be worth 20k if it was brand new, but I’ve had that car for 30 years and would gladly drop 30k into it one day if needed so that I could hold on to it and pass it along. Long answer but that’s why people often pay to have them resoled. I think this question deserves a video. 😁
The ability of having a boot re-crafted is exactly why I picked up my first pair of RW Mock toe boots. I understand that there are many good boot manufacturers out there, I was just tired of throwing money and shoes away and wanted a quality boot to last for years. The Mrs. even found a pair of Thorogood work boots at a local flea market for nearly nothing and I recently had those re-crafted and Ive reconditioned the uppers. This has lead me to get a pair of Alden 405's, so I am using these boots as intended, work boots. Clean, condition, rinse and repeat. Sustainability and longevity is my new motto, so thank you Trent and Heath!! @@TrentonHeath
Yea I love his channel!
NICE JOB
I have origin bison boots. Love then things. Love the company.
