This pair of Red Wing boots were worn out! The leather was dried out and cracking, and the original soft soles were wearing down. In this video, we take these boots completely apart and give them the works...new insoles, welts, different Vibram rubber soles, and we condition these with Huberd's Oil. After we finished, these Red Wing boots are ready for years of wear!

I can see red wings makeing a mean face look if they saw this video, yeah red wings there soles are s****! now days! wtf happend? hahahaha
So just some feedback on the Huberd’s that I forgot to mention in the video. I applied 2 coats of it, allowing the first coat to dry for 24 hours per the instructions on the can. The oil did not darken the leather as much as the Huberd’s Grease does. The uppers, as you can see in the video, were still brown, and some of the very worn spots on the leather accepted the oil but didn’t darken at all.
By the look of it, especialy in front, a third coat could have been added? Nice job anyway!
Great stuff. Smells like campfire!
I have some Redwings I'd love to send you that would be a challenge. Steal toes similar to these in the video. Can I just send you them? I don't want them back. Lol
I've got a pair of thorogood boots I want to get repaired. I've got a friend that lives close to your shop. Can he drop them off at your shop and just ship them back. I live just right out of nashville tn.
Redwing 2233’s! These are an example of their USA made work boots, they used to have multiple options of these, insulated, unlined, steel toe, soft toe, etc. now they have sort of limited their USA made work boots but there’s still a few gems out there, these have a version of the super soles on them, they’re almost like direct mold injected type soles, sort of like the old Vietnam era jungle boots but with softer polyurethane type material. I’ve had a few pairs of these and I’ll tell ya those supersoles ain’t no joke, I had a pair last 3 years of almost everyday wear, I had redwing resole them and got about 3 more years out of the boots, after that they were trash. I have been wearing the redwing model 953 for about 6 months now, sort of like these in the video but with a smoother sole and soft toes. I may send them into these guys for a rebuild when needed,
But idk, those darn supersoles are surprisingly durable and slip resistant. Great rebuild video.
The boots are look better. I like that they are worn and happy they were not thrown out. You guys do great work.
I could watch the corking all day!
Good craftsmanship. You guys are magicians. Also that worn out upper look give a bit of character to these boots. 👍
Thanks!
It's like wrinkles on people's faces. Earned. None of that faux aging, it's the real deal.
I periodically saddle soap to clean then liberally apply Huberd’s shoe oil to all my Red Wing boots. It makes them look and feel great!
Glad to see my favorite cobblers....
Someone definitely got their money’s worth out of those boots.
Always great to see you apply your craft. I also subscribe to your dad and really like his vids, but realized I haven’t seen anything new in a few months. I sure hope he’s ok.
Thanks so much! He’s doing fine. Thank you for asking. He decided to take a break from TH-cam for a while.
@@TrentonHeath thanks for letting me know! Let him know his subscribers are looking forward to his return.
I have used Huberd’s Shoe "Grease" on my oiled leather work boots for some time. Love the product.
Excellent workmanship
Always a good day for a new video
It was cool to see how you built the new poron insole w/leather covers. This was cool, crafty repair.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Every time I see you guys tear apart these shoes and boots I think they're never going to go back together you guys surprised the heck out of me great job
Amazing job. Looking forward to your next dress shoe video!
Thank you!
I wore the RedWing mock toe lace up 8 inch for many years until they stopped making it. The best construction boot ever made in my opinion. The ones I wore had the rubber sole. I never liked the crape as it would not last.
Had this exact pair of boots left behind by my late grandfather. They were still brand new and in the box. I was the only one that wore his size. Ended up building several houses wearing them and starting my own different business. They were completely falling apart by then. Good boots. Weren't my favorite just had a lot of sentimental value.
Your work is absolutely the best! I have a pair of Carolinas I hope to get to you someday.
Order my first pair of sandals and can't wait to try them on!
Thanks! Hope you enjoy them.
That is a red wing supersole. It is a direct attach foam injection process with a hook welt. It absolutely can be resoled by Red Wing at the factory on the same machines that put the original sole on the boot when built.
In my 11 years working with a red Wing I have had literally thousands of these boots factory resoled. My own boots have gone through the process multiple times.
You guys do great work and I’d be happy to have you work on my boots. I respect the craft and art. Stay Gold.
I would have sent those back to Red Wings.
*TRUMP 2024*
Now Red Wing won't be able to put those boots back on the direct attachment device.
@@A55-s9dit’s pretty obvious that the owner of those boots isn’t interested in sending them back to Red Wing.
I had a pair of Red Wing supersoles resoled at the factory to Vibrams. So that's an option, as well.
No disrespect to T&H, of course. Great work.
my red wings "914" have been resoled twice ( by a local shoe repair shop) within two years with these very same vibram soles and are currently being held together with wood screws.
i wish there was a more durable sole because i work on concrete and pavement alot and the soles seem to wear fast in the heel and the glue never holds up
they are my daily's for chores and around the shop i could get new ones sure but new boots take forever to break in
I wore a pair of Red Wing steel toed 8" work boots for 10 years and they were great - had them reshod once and used removable insoles due to my very sweaty feet - I'd still wear them except they got totally water soaked - I was working for Arkansas Forestry the last year I wore them and was spotting trees for tree count/health and had to wade in several bottoms and bayou's - they shrunk badly when they finally dried out and I couldn't wear them anymore 😞
Where is Forrest?
Yall make it look easy, but i know it takes a lot of skill to rebuild/resole boots and shoes. Thanks
This is a wow project, a head scratcher. Great job. I prefer a Goodyear welted design just so resoling goes easy.
Look like a well loved pair of navy flight boots.
Great job. It's always nice to watch you at work. Greetings from Poland from the city of Radomsko ;)
Thank you very much! We appreciate you watching.
I have wanted to see the inside of their work boots for a while now. I wear them for work, and the footboard in them is SUPER hard and tough. It's harder than a leather footboard...
When I would wear the toes of my steel toe boots out I took them to my local boot repair shop and had a pitchers toe cap put on. Have you guys ever done anything like that?
When it’s time for me to get my boots repaired I will be sure to contact you guys. Excellent work 👍🏻
I only watch for Forrest. Give Forrest some screen time.
Obenaufs is my favorite. More natural, easier to use, and better results for me. Huberds is the old school version and I'm just the new fan boy of a newer brand. Same with shoe polishes from Pure Polish out of Oregon instead of French.
I tuned in for Forrest. Bring Forrest back.
I was a little disappointed when you didn’t fix the toes, but it was a good video as usual & I liked it
Thank you Sirs
Awesome, fantastic job gentlemen!
It would have been interesting if you had weighed them before and after.
Nice work
Hey, i have those same boots! In a similar state of disrepair as well 😂
Nice job. That type of Redwing construction has a problem that is sometimes irritating and embarrassing. They squeak. It doesn’t matter if you dry them on a boot dryer, and keep them clean and oiled, they squeak. Sometimes one, sometimes both. Of coarse you know the old saw that goes “if your boots squeak, you haven’t paid for them”. Hopefully, your rebuild will be squeak free. Thanks for the video. Take care.
Great video. Would love to hear any tools, shop & family history you would be willing to share. Thank you
It was one of my favorite boots. One of the first pairs lasted me 8 years and then i gave them to my brother cause he needed steel toes. Not built the same anymore.
Great after-breakfast watching with my sweetheart. Have a wonderful weekend, fellas!
We appreciate y’all watching! Have a great weekend.
Congraturatio for Your work
I’d like to see you work on a pair of Chelsea boots
Love my anson belt and i mean just belt for now. I ordered two others of the invicibelt but i still have just the original one i got and the others are still waiting in the closet! They are that good and just this one belt looks still like new. The buckle not so much the paint has come off of it mostly but its a work belt i dont care about that :)
A toe cap might have been a nice touch to cover up the holes. Just a thought.
Shoe oil is awesome. I leave the leather on a hot hot hot place (front porch, closed up vehicle, shed, or garage) before applying it, put it back so it soaks, leave it overnight, and do a second application the next day to really soak it in. It’ll change color, but it’ll last! (Edit) just seen y’all’s comment. Ha! I guess I’ve been doing it right all these years.
As always great video, I was curious though how would you fix the hole that developed on the toe?
How long have you both been repairing and restorating boots and shoes?.
Been using Huberd's shoe grease for years. Unfortunately, haven't seen it locally since I moved from Washington state, so I order it online now. I've tried obenauf's but it rots the stitching.
Love your channel; you guys make what you do look easy.
I wonder if this customer was an ironworker? Rodbuster to be more specific. Great video boys. 🙏👌👍
Do some brunt boot resole
Curious on how I can send my boots in to have them repaired ?
Is it possible to have too much cork? More cork more custom cushion?
Whats that oatmeal looking fillers proper name? Also, is that a industry wide type of filler? Ty. I didnt know so much glue was used in the making of shoes. Very interesting.
I have a pair of redwings, after wearing for a week for work, then switch to another pair of boots, my redwings get a white looking mold inside. How do I treat and prevent?
Buy some cedar shoe trees. Put them in as soon as you take them off. They soak up the moisture and keep the boot formed properly, plus smell like cedar.
Complete Awesomeness..you guy's
Thank you!
Is the gemming canvas on a heavy work boot different than one used for a dress shoe? Thicker? Heavier grade?
Why do you use the cork in the bag vs the pre made cork bed?
Have you ever tried leather honey conditioner.
How do I get in touch with u guys to send a pair of Redwing boots.I have flat feet wondering if u guys could something to the boots instead of always using insoles can I ship them to you?
Surprised the owner didn’t ask for a cap toe to hide the holes
1:20 I don't think applying acetone removes anything by brushing it on.. because after it evaporates, the mold release or whatever it's on it remains on it.
It might be better to soak, rinse, or wipe it with acetone.
Why not add some color conditioner to the boot? Some of spots still look a little worn out even with the oil 🤔
Can you do my twisted X work boots?
I have watched a lot of cobbler videos, and when they replace inner soul and the new gaming on it, they always stitch the new gaming on. Is there a reason that you do not do this?
The way red wing builds their shoes is the 'right way' for red wing.
I saw two things in this video that I have never seen in a P&S/SP video: the shoe oil and the dog - great stuff! Did the shoe oil darken the leather? I know the boots are old and were very dry when they came in - just wondering about the shoe oil vs. mink oil (which always darkens leather). Thanks!
Surprisingly, the oil didn’t darken the leather as much as I thought it may. The Huberd’s Grease seems to darken more than the oil, in my opinion.
Do u guys repair Carolina boots
What model are those red wing boots?
THE HUNDRED BROTHERS by Donald Antrim pg 44 and 39 too..
Nice
Should have done some KG boot guard on the toe
I’ve got a pair of these and was really wanting a wedge sole put on but now wondering if it would be worth it or if I could even find someone willing to do the conversion where I live
Not sure what they would charge, but might be money ahead to buy a pair of Thorogoods with the wedge already on it.
Would have been cool to sew a toe cap over the damage on the toe.
Would it have been feasible to sew a leather cap over the toe on those? I think I'd have wanted to do that.
Yep, it’s possible.
great video , thanks
Glad you enjoyed it.
Ain't nothin' wrong with that!!! : ) Be Safe
Love the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey, anyone...I've got some boots that were my old motorcycle boots that I wore with more socks for touring. Bike is gone, but I love the boots, but they are a size too large. Do any of you know if Trent or Heath have done a re-sizing video? I haven't seen one...thanks for the info!
I just did this with some used Wolverine 1000 mile that I bought on eBay for $25. They were too big. I cut the soles off, cut the paper insole out, used the old insole to trace out new thicker leather insoles. The thicker insoles tightened up the boot. Plus you can slightly modify the outline of the insoles to make the boot wider or narrower in spots. My boots fit perfect now and look fantastic. The problem is if you don’t do it yourself it’s going to cost you $300 or more. I have a video of mine on my channel.
@@michaelxr2460 link me!
@michaelxr2460 ...I don't think I replied to this...hit me with the link would ya? Thanks.
Phenomenally sexy and professional process and result. Thank You. Again.
Looking for a good cobbler in the New England. Anyone that knows one please let me know.
4:10 yummy, empanadas🤤
You do that like you know what you are doing. Lol
Shoulda stopped at the stiletto version 😂
Red Wing uses contractor cobblers to repair boots.
If I owned those Boots , While the Boot was apart, I would have had you sew, a leather cap over the torn, Front Piece, It would have looked Better.
Can you explain cost. It would be of b been better to buy new pair.
I had to file bankruptcy because I was buying too many Anson belts.
😁😁 They are awesome! I wore one of mine today to a graduation party.
@@TrentonHeaththanks to your channel I have one on every day. 😊
they are $400 new so make your economical decision.
I have a pair of Red Wings with that junk molded sole....would like to have real soles put on but likely to expensive to justify the job.
I never liked the boots with the grip sole, smooth only. The grip sole on a construction job did nothing but clog with MUD.
fire your sound guy. seriously with all your ad reads you can afford a better sound person.
Came for boot repair, left at belt sales.
Those boots are butt ugly! I would have wanted the leather replaced at the steel toe!!!
You talk to much
Yeah, these are trash
It’s hard to believe redwing made those boots that way to make them cheaper as redwing boots aren’t cheap. In the work boot world . They made them harder to repair that’s for sure 🫤
I’ve only had two pairs of Red Wing boots, and they were steel toe. That was back in 2004 when I bought the first pair. They were tough boots but they had the same sole as the ones in the video so I never could wear them working in a factory standing on concrete floors for a whole shift. I mainly just used them as an outside work boot. I wished I had known about the comfort of a wedge sole then. I’ve also heard a lot of complaints on how Red Wing has reduced the quality of their boots these days, but I can’t say for myself.
Redwing is a cheap boot. Especially in the workboot world.
I really enjoyed the humor you included on the "Red Wing Stilletto"
Just like the glue bottle you called "Mt.Gluvious"
Well done Fellas!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@TrentonHeath
I think everyone that watches your videos, enjoys any kind of humor you add. I bet if I was to take a poll based upon videos with included humor, the number of viewers and likes would be very high
