One thing I always do when I get to my airline seat is pull out a pre-moistened wipe and wipe down my space. Headrest, chair, arm rest, tray table, you’d be shocked how dirty it all is. I sometimes have to use 3-4 wipes! Usually another traveler (seeing how gross everything is) will ask me for an extra wipe. I take additional wipes with me to the rest room. 😮. I take them to movie theaters too. Love your tips!!
I was once doing this and the lady in the seat next to mine was on the phone to someone (this was pre-take-off) in another language (which I understood) telling her friend that there was a crazy lady next to her. 😂 lots of eye-rolling and eyebrow-raising, but it didn’t bother me.
Remember to slip a plastic grocery bag in with your spare clothes packed away inside your compression cube in your personal item bag. Use it to keep the worn items separated from the fresh clothes. It takes little room and if you don't use it for that, it usually comes in handy for something else.
If I travel, I will bring different sizes of the zip-lock bag. Normally will use the gallon size bag to pack my clean clothes and the sandwich size bag for my socks & undies. When going back, will use the gallon size bag to pack my dirty clothes, to separate my clean & dirty clothes. I find that hotel laundry plastic bag are a bit flimsy and might tear during the transit period. I will also store my toiletries into them so that there will be no spills inside my luggage bag. For shoes, normally will put them inside a compression bag covered with old newspaper & inside a plastic bag. The old newspapers really helps with drying my shoes when it is too wet. I also bring extra plastic grocery bag as my carry on trash bag if I can't find any trashcan in my surrounding.
Unless you're traveling to Kenya... you could be arrested for bringing plastic bags into the country. (Most likely, they'd fine you rather than arrest you... but still...)
I pack a small sandwich bag with all items I like in my pockets. You have to have empty pockets through TSA, then put the items in after the line, I have a gallon size bag with all the items I want in the seat pocket. This is easy to grab when you get to your seat and it keeps your book, kindle, snacks, wipes from connecting with the pocket grime.
I’m a super germophobe and have been burned by nasty interior seatback pockets. So, now I carry extra gallon bags. I put all my stuff in the gallon bag just like you, but I have extra bags in case I have a surprise in the pocket like melted chocolate or wads of used tissues….then I can discard the nasty bag and put all my trash from the flight inside and hand it off to the FA. I know I’m a weirdo, but it makes me feel better.
I just keep everything I'm not actively using in my personal item carry-on instead of stashing it somewhere else. With kids I can see needing to have more things out, but not for myself.
Your napkin in the drink pocket hack is useful, but I would replace it with a dollar store bandana (I have dozens stacked in my cupboard because I use them for so many things, including gift wrap). Once you get to your hotel, rinse it out and hang on the shower rail to dry. They have dozens of uses on vacation, from a head cover when it's sunnier than expected, to a makeshift bag when you weren't intending to shop, to an emergency bandage, sling or tourniquet in case of injury, to a cooling towel on a hot day, to a valet tray so your jewelry doesn't blend into the counter and get forgotten, to something to cover your mouth and nose so you can breath while escaping a fire godforbid.
I could also see placing a microfiber cloth in the bottom of the drink pocket! It is useful for cleaning surfaces as needed and many other uses outlined above already!
The last time i went through a tsa line, I watched a lady have to unzip her carry-on bag and search for things to put in the gray bins. I remember thinking that she needed to watch Travel Tips by Laurie 😂
Extra clothes in your personal item bag are great if your bag gets lost. But…also great if you happen to spill a whole glass of soda on your lap. Nice to have non sticky clothes to change into mid flight!!! This thought comes from personal experience.
I watched previous videos where you suggested packing an extra tee and undies, in your personal item. I just did that and also included a nightgown. Well, today we flew out and when we got to the airport we realized we’d left a suitcase at home! Too late to go back so we flew off with all of my clothes sitting in my bedroom. I’m SO glad I followed your tip! I have a nice fresh nightgown for tonight, clean I does and a tee for tomorrow to wear shopping! Crazy, I know. We’ve never done this before but things do happen.
Same thing happened to my stepkids .. he loaded the car for a trip to Vegas (from Ga) .. but forgot to load any of HER luggage and they didn't realize it til they arrived at their destination.
I carry a clean trash bag to put hand carry bag in when I place my bag under the seat in front of me. Keeps my bag clean, and I can recycle the bag later for dirty laundry.
Jack Daniel's had a Christmas special where the bottle came in an oblong zippered cloth bag. When I travel, I add 2 long ebags packing bags, and fill one with whatever underwear or sleep clothes I need. Then I clip it to the outside of my rolling bag with a hero clip, and I can use it as my pillow. Makes room in suitcase, and bottle of booze to boot.
I like to use my bumbag for those travel essentials that I want handy on the flight. I got a black and white striped one (looks great with my black and white Lovevook backpack). When I get to my seat I open the tray, slide my bumbag strap over the tray to the hinge and close the tray. The bag is then located right in hands reach! Thanks for your tips!
“Hey”! It’s been a while since I’ve traveled on a plane, so I started watching your videos again. Even though trip isn’t until months away, I’m starting to organize my stuff ( in my head) for the trip. Thank you for sharing and being so complete. Your videos are a great refresher.
Hi Laurie! Something I do for the ice cold bottle of water or other beverage bottle, I keep folded paper towels inside a plastic zip bag, & just slide the bottle into that zip bag, the paper towels absorb the condensation, & being inside the plastic bag, you won’t have a wet spot on your backpack.
@@doo_da_day my mother keeps half filled water bottles in the freezer, and when she is driving somewhere, she tops one off with water, and then carries it in an orphan sock. I've started keeping a couple in my freezer, and carrying them in a cooler for road trips; for the dogs.
Hi, here is a tip I hope you'll never need: I use a very slim fanny pack. It just fits four things: ID, phone, cash and credit card. You can wear it invisible under your shirt or sweater. My mobil is in a wallet style case, so it's all kept together nicely. If you have to leave the airport or plane in an emergency you have to leave all bags behind. With these four things, wherever you are, you can always organize your way home. I just discovered your videos and I bingewatched for hours. Thank you for your time and effort
a tip I just picked up from another place, and particularly useful for families: pack all of the stuff that TSA is going to want to look closer at in one carryon. that way one adult can keep tabs on that "high scrutiny" bag, and the other can keep tabs on the kids and the low scrutiny bags. - I've already decided that next time we fly, we'll put the "uncheckables" into one carryon, so the other can be checked at the gate if need be. you already know that instead of a personal item bag, I carry my flight stuff in a light jacket with lots of pockets. I prefer a Kindle to a paper book for travel. I still prefer the security of having my books on paper overall, but the e-ink screen isn't hard on my eyes, plus it has the backlight so I can read with the lights off, and if my eyes ARE tired, I can adjust the print size. plus I can carry an entire bookshelf in my pocket. one thing I've run into is that I usually aim for exit rows, for the legroom. what that means for travelers, is the tray table will be smaller, and most of the time there is no underseat option. that means having my personal inflight items carried on my person is an even bigger necessity, so they don't get put in an overhead bin out of reach. I carry wired earbuds, mostly because I'm stingy, but partly because I can just plug them into the airplane entertainment system, or the tour bus listening system. when I go through the TSA line, as I've said, I wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off, so I can just take my laptop out of my carryon, and put it in a second bin with my shoes and jacket in it, as well. then at the exit, I can just slip into my shoes, stick my laptop back into my bag, grab my jacket, and get myself out of the security area. any reorganizing I want to do; I can do in the gate area, where there's less chaos of people who didn't prepare for TSA screening trying to put themselves back together. as a man, I make a point of wearing pants without rivets, (Carhartt work pants will earn you a patdown) that I can wear with or without a belt (that way I can have the belt in a bag for the flight, but I still have the option of going tucked in with a belt for someplace nice.) I have black golf pants I wore the last time we traveled, and they were great. I wear a nice shirt with a pocket, because that's where I carry my phone, and then the jacket with all my in flight stuff and all the stuff I normally carry in my pockets. I also haven't parked in airport parking for years. last time, we had friends drop us off and they kept the car - and all our keys - at their house while we were gone. that way, we could just ping them while we were in customs, and they came to fetch us. we've also used hotel "sleep and ride" services when we had early morning flights. even more creatively, one of my customers told me they booked a limo service to take them to and from the airport, because in the final calculation, it didn't cost them any more than driving to the airport, and paying for long term parking; once they added in the nuisance cost of not having doorstep dropoff and pickup. another tip someone might find handy - on our last international trip; we flew Iceland Air, and they handed out liter bottles of good water as we boarded the plane. so if you're flying Iceland, you probably won't need to juggle a water bottle.
Dear Laurie, Thank you so much for all of your smart advice! I'm also an airline pilot wife and have been traveling with my husband for over 26 years. As you can imagine, I've acquired many of my own traveling tips and hacks over the years. But, I always seem to learn a few new ones from your videos. So, thank you and please keep them coming!
Hi Laurie! I have a small, fluffy pouch with a drawstring that I roll my sweater into, and it doubles as a really comfy pillow. Also, inside my liquids bag, I have a small ziplock bag with my plane essentials like hand cream, eye drops etc. It's then easy to separate when necessary 😉
Re being asked to stow the crossbody or waist pack because it’s a 3rd item…hasn’t happened to me, but on my last flight (Southwest), I saw the gate agent tell a woman she had to stow one item (she had a carryon, a small purse, and a small shopping bag). The woman got really flustered trying to stuff one of them somewhere. Lesson learned, be prepared!
I once had my small zippered bag ( like six by four inches) out in my hand because I was in line and getting my boarding pass ready as I got ready to go down the jetway. The gate agent keeps yapping at me for having three items even though I explain that I only have the item in my hand so that I can put my pass back inside once she checks it. Finally she gets it. Flying is so necessary but also so incredibly peculiar.
I was told on my last Allegiant flight by the person handing out bag tags in the waiting area. I was already planning to stow it as they are so bare bones, but I appreciated the reminder if I didn’t know.
I put my small crossbody purse into my personal item. You showed some nifty gadgets, but I'm more minimalist. I wouldn't want to carry all that stuff! (tray table cover, window cup holder, phone stand, etc.). To each her own though. (I love your videos.)
Like your husband, I print out copies of different tickets, itineraries, etc even if I have them on my phone and put them in a much loved notebook-style pencil case. It's the kind with the three holes you can put in a notebook, one main section that holds almost anything folded in half and then a second mesh section. I pull out only the same day papers for the mesh section to keep from rifling through. It's nice to get other ideas, as systems evolve for people, and this one has saved some real headaches for my family. Especially when tech goes glitchy.
I keep a manila folder with the itinerary information in the front pocket of my carryon, plus after the nuisance of having E-tickets for both of us on my phone, I print paper boarding passes, and keep them in the identity page of our passports.
One thing I'd add about liquids bags - don't feel you must limit them to toiletries. I don't use many liquids toiletries, so I always have extra space. This trip will involve a 5 hour flight, a 7 1/2 hour layover, then a 2 /12 hour flight. That's a lot of hours! So, I will be bringing at least 2 meals with me as well as the usual snacks. Remember that you can put liquidy food in your liquids bag, as long as it falls within the TSA requirements. Mine will include honey straws for my tea, individual salad dressing sachets, and three 1 ounce jars of different preserves for my cheese and crackers lunch.
Can I ask you a question? What kind of meals do you pack for the plane? I’m flying soon, but I don’t want to buy over priced airport food. Any help would be useful, thank you 😊
@@carnival30 I'm not the person you asked, but I recently saw a video by Eunice at "Theory of Simple" (I want to give her credit because she is so clever), and she brought little bento boxes on her flight. She made homemade egg bites, some kind of sausage balls on a skewer, and in a separate bin she brought the fixings for bloody marys (bacon strip, asparagus spears, pickles, celery, etc.)! She just asked the flight attendant for the bloody mary mix. I was so impressed and inspired by the idea. I never knew you could bring food through security. You can, you just have to make sure it is not liquidy, except for what you put in your liquids bag. She also brings collapsible bowls and/or silicone food containers with lids so she can make soup, oatmeal, etc. She carries an insulated mug with a tight seal and once through security she gets hot water from a coffee stand. She uses that to make her tea, coffee, soup, etc. because the hot water on the plane comes from the tap and I guess is really gross. The cold water comes from bottles and is fine to drink. 😀
@@morpheuszzz662 Wow, thank you for this answer! I’m going to check her out. Up untill a week ago. I thought you couldn’t bring any kind of food onto the plane. I thought you could only buy food at the airport and that’s what could be taken in, but that food is usually so expensive and it’s prepackaged food I don’t like. I really like the idea of taking dry oatmeal and then finding hot water to make them. Thank you for these tips. I’m going to Costa Rica next week and I’m trying to save money by not spending $13 on a bad sandwich at the airport.
@@carnival30 On some video I recently saw (maybe Laurie from this channel?), someone said that some airlines aren't serving food anymore. So doublecheck your airline, esp. if you have a long flight. That could get uncomfortable. 😃 Maybe that was due to the pandemic, but I could also see airlines going this route to save money. Have a great trip to Costa Rica!
@@morpheuszzz662 Thank you! I am excited, but I’m also surprised with all of the changes. The last time I flew was years before the pandemic and airlines still included one free checked bag and meals. I’m realizing now that airlines aren’t doing that anymore and require you to pay for even your first checked bag! That shocked me! It seems like everything was shaken up during the pandemic. I can’t believe that some airlines are no longer serving food! It’s really coming down to bare bones. I’m flying American Airlines and you can’t take a carry-on either. You have to check the carry-on for $35. If you get to the gate and they have to check it for you, it’s a $25 fee on top of the $35 fee.
To keep your charger cube and charging cords matched, replace wasabi tape (which may come off) with a dot of matching nail polish. It will not come off and is a foolproof way to see which way to enter the cord into the charger.
I am totally going try nail polish instead. I have been using the tape method (either washi, or a skinny piece of decorative duct tape) and I don't know about other people, but my blocks always end up getting hot and then the tape gets gooey from the warmed up adhesive. Nail polish would be much easier. Thanks for the great idea !!!
I add a fit of nail polish to almost everything I travel with,,, makeup brushes, etc… just in case they get mixed up back at home, unpacking, cleaning, re-stocking etc… I KNOW these all need to go back in suitcase mode for next unexpected trip!!! 💃🏻
Great video, Laurie. I noticed your personal bag has a light color interior and smaller bags were bright or clear colors. All of my bags (personal, backpack, crossbody, purse, etc) are light color interiors. Nothing worse than digging into a black hole looking for something with the cabin lights off.
We recently took a vacation and on the outside pouch of our electronics bag I taped a post it note of all the electronic items in it and that were elsewhere, like the phone, etc. That way when packing to go home, I just went off that list to make sure everything was repacked. I also take a major packing list of items we take so I can pack for the next vacation looking at the list of what we used & didn't use. Thank you for sharing your tips!
For many years instead of a water bottle I carry a water bag with a carabiner clip with a screw off and/or pull up drinking top. They come in different sizes. I role it up into a tiny size and when I get to my gate I fill it with water, clip it to my carry on back pack (or put it in my side water bottle sleeve of my back pack) and have plenty of water for my trip. In addition to this I pack a larger one for long day trips in my suitcase for plenty of water for day hikes or site seeing. I also carry this in my car whenever I go out of town. Ideal for long haul trips .. New Zealand ect.
Great video, Laurie!!! Thank you! I'm 69 and I started flying when I was 4, and first flew by myself at 8. My mother always told me to pack an extra pair of undies, socks and a shirt with me. I can't tell you how many times that has saved me!
I have traveled to 40 plus countries (Europe. Qatar. Southeast Asia) i have learned how to pack like a pro. Your videos have been a great source of information. Going to see my son in October on southwest airlines (1st time flying with them ) so i started packing early. Pulled out 4 personal item bags and decided i would try a travel backpack. I was impressed with how much i could fit into this bag. I always carry noise canceling headphones and a neck pillow. I have a bag i stuff my pillow into to keep it clean. Also packing 2 days worth of clothing into my backpack. I have to work on my vacation so i have my computer and a Kindle. All my cables and my Belkin surge protector which i have used in the airport to top off my devices. I have a 13 hour layover so i need some cleaning wipes to freshen up. Thanks for the tips about hand sanitizer not having to go in your liquids bag. I am only taking my backpack and a carry-on for an 11 day trip but i feel really good about what i am taking. Just ordered the airplane travel footrest since i am in economy and both flight are approximately 6 hours each. A must take on for me is a ziplock bag for garbage. I always carry quart and gallon size bags in my personal bag. Love you content and look forward to what is next
You are a genius. I never thought to use packing cubes in my carry on. I also never thought to pack according to each types of travel. I go to the train station for a ten hour ride to my hotel where I stay two days before my cruise. Then off to the cruise port to check my larger suitcase and put my carry on in my cabin to set off around the ship. My luggage might not get to my cabin until 6pm from a 10am boarding. Meanwhile I have been digging through my luggage for two days at the hotel throwing any previous organization out the window. THANK YOU!
They're also helpful in security if they have to open your suitcase - saves them the trouble of digging through the entire thing, and saves you the potential embarrassment of your stuff being open for everyone to see.
Travel cubes were a game changer for me. Been using them for around 7 years. Mine are ebag versions (great quality). I roll everything and When I arrive just peel the zipped part open and out the cube in the drawer. I never unpack them, just so easy to see everything 😊
I use the same tray cover as you do then take one of those elastic towel holders that you stretch across the back of a beach chair and put it over the tray. I then use carabiners to hook underneath: my travel mug, a plastic trash bag, and a small toiletry kit with my electronics, etc. I can then use the pockets for other things.
I use these tips for road trips too! There’s nothing worse than picking up a heavy bag every time you go to a different hotel on the way to your destination or on an extended cross country sightseeing trip.
I like to fill a travel pouch with a loop on it with my must have flight essentials so I don’t have to bend and dig into my backpack multiple times. This holds Motrin, Kleenex, an ink pen, make-up removal wipes, eye glass cleaner pads, a mini toothbrush, mints, ear buds etc. If I have a carabiner clip, I can attach it to the seat pocket.
The carabiners can also “lock your bag to a seat leg when traveling. A pickpocket would have to work hard to unscrew it. You want the kind that screws shut not the flip style ones. I pack a couple when I travel. @@TravelTipsbyLaurie
I was recently on an American Airline flight from Charlotte to Newark and the boarding agent saw me with a Fanny pack turned in reverse and she made me remove it and stuff it in my back pack counting it as 2 personal items . The flight was already delayed in departure and she could have cared less about whether these last minute shifting of items slowed down boarding and the flight was NOT full . It was obvious she was on a mission - mean spirit !
I'm guessing they are all tapped out from all the entitled people we see on the news all the time. The world has gone crazy and everyone has road rage. I hope things start to go back to "normal" and soon!
A kindle paperwhite is genuinely like reading paper. You can also adjust the screen brightness. Including in low light. When sitting in the dark with my daughter when she was poorly and trying to sleep, I set it to very low light and i could still read.
I don’t travel with a laptop but with an iPad. I bought a charging cord that will charge my iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch from one port. I looked to see if I could find it agin but wasn’t successful. So I’m ready to ditch my travel tech case and go back to a pouch. For me, it will be smaller. I loved this video! I never seem to have enough room for my things in my travel backpack. That’s due to my knitting most of the time!😊
Crafters really understand how much space our hobbies take up. I art journal so I want lots papers, sticker and pens, it such a fight to have what I want but not use up all the room.
I have to thank you for all your valuable tips! We took our first international trip to the UK . I actually binge watched your videos!. Packing light, making sure you drink alot of water, anti theft purse, comfortable travel outfit, making copies of passport. We had the best time.
Funny story on pockets on a backpack. Was coming through TSA in Amsterdam and it was early morning training. They flagged my backpack for mystery object. warned them it was stuffed full.... first my tension fan pops out at them. YIKES... 😬 (lucky they had a sense of humor). Then they couldn't find my camp spoon I had packed. I could not remember what pocket it was in...took them 30 minutes to finally find it! Moral is: know exactly where you pack stuff!
@@carolduckett5312 it's a little circle fan that you twist into a smaller circle and has a wire that makes the outer ring. When untwisted it's a nice little fan. You twist to store in a small bag.
I might have already mentioned this on one of your other videos, but I have that same backpack and I LOVE it. Perfect size for travel, has a trolley strap to carry on your suitcase, and the shoulder straps are very wide and padded for comfort. I love that it has the rigid opening so you can open it WIDE and get down in there. It has handles on top if you want to carry it like a purse, even, and it is really nice looking (I have a different color scheme, but they all look great.) It does fit under the seat on the airplane. I've carried this bag all over Europe, it was perfect.
I have asthma and have 2 different inhalers. I always take spares for both when travelling. Inhalers in current use is put in the front pocket and the spares are in the main compartment wherever there is a space. If I have a jacket with me I put current inhalers in a jacket pocket that has a zip or snap.
Just got back from Italy…used so many of Laurie’s tips- the pockets that go over the airplane tray was super! Held my phone, kindle, water bottle, and other things I wanted to use in flight.
Recently returned from a trip to Ireland and a 9 hr flight. I highly recommend the foot sling that goes over the gray table on back of the seat in front of you. Reduced swelling and was comfy. Just wait until the service is done and everyone is settled down. Used most of your personal bag tips
Dollar Tree has really cute round clam shell with zipper for air pods. It has a mesh pocket on one side so I have air pods and wired cheap earphones. Recently they had a square one with flamingos.
Laurie, I purchased the backpack you feature and recently used it on a flight. Wow! It fit well under the seat and I still had leg room. So many places to put things. I also thought I'd never use the little RFID wallet you've featured. I purchased one, and I loved using it on our trip. I've long had the neck pillow you featured from a past video. Since we were on a 6+ hour flight, I did use it. I used a carabiner clip to attach it to my backpack although I'm sure that clip would hold. The carabiner clip allowed the pillow to hang down a bit. Love that neck pillow. Need to check out the peeps. As you can see, your featured items are keepers. I'll have to weigh getting that window cup holder gadget. I'm a bit of a klutz, and I can just see me knocking a drink down the side of the plane! 🤣
I’m always trying to refine my packing/reduce space and weight-I like the Cabeau neck pillow but it’s bulky and feels really hot after a while. Saw this idea and it works great-I got a $12 real (padded) neck brace-it’s designed to hold your neck steady and takes up way less space and is way less hot than an expensive travel neck pillow!
This is a great tip. Was debating whether to get one of those bulky pillows... I sleep with a chin strap anyway (to keep jowls at bay, lol, but also helps with things like snoring and drooling). So, my strap plus your tip may be all I need!
@@SnowySpiritRubyI personally bought from AmAZon the CozyHealth ($15) , small, (like a cervical collar) comes in a lil soft bag with carabiner on it! Bought several cause I always leave something!! Most comfy and would NEVER get those huge memory foam terrible travel pillows!!
Hi Laurie. Long-time subscriber here. As my itineraries have gotten more complicated, I have begun using the TripIt app. I can store all the documents for each trip electronically in TripIt without having to print and keep track of everything, thus saving space. I love the app’s timely check-in reminders and flight alerts, which are only a couple of minutes behind the airline apps. And the terminal maps and in-airport walking directions associated with the pro version are some of the best I’ve encountered.
Hi Laurie. Regarding cables, I use cloth medical tape to create a tab around the wire and write on that what the wire goes to. It has worked out great.
I have the airplane pocket for the tray and love it. Can fit so much more is what I want in reach than in the airplane pocket. We are flying first class to Alaska next week for a 13 day cruise. I think trays in first class food out from armrest so I won’t be taking my airplane pocket😥. Because it is cooler and it is an expedition cruise I am needed heavier clothes and hiking boots plus another pair of boots, I will be packing in a check size bag. I have been packing in a carry on and love the easy of handling. Did a month in Ireland and a Baltic cruise with 3 formal nights last year in a carry on and just got back from 18 day cruise and land extension from Iceland to Norway in a carry on bag. Been following your tips for over a year! Thank you!
I used a black bag for my cords. On a long haul flight, I lost all my cords because the black blended into the tight quarters. Note to self, bright colors are best❤
That black and white striped backpack is the best thing I’ve ever bought for traveling. Watched a previous video of yours recommending that gem and I love all the pockets. It is very well laid out and so attractive too. Thank you!❤
I like my Vera Bradley backpack, but not sure of the version name. She has many styles. Mine opens up like a mini suitcase and has many pockets inside and out. I bought a textured solid navy, so if it gets too heavy my husband will tote it! He never has a carryon either, so on the occasion when I need two, he’s comfortable carrying it!
I love your tips. I always put my crossbody bag inside the backpack or personal item that I use to travel, this way, when I get to my destination and leave my luggage at the hotel, I have the crossbody bag ready to go. I put all my documents and essentials there and use it as a pouch while inside the personal bag.
Hi, Laurie. These are great tips. One alternative to carrying a book that will save your eyes from having to look at a screen is an audiobook. They are a life saver on long trips. 😉
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I try to get a cheap paperback from a thrift store or used book exchange. That way when I'm finished I can simply leave it behind and free up a little "souvenir" space
I have a travel tech pouch specifically for the flight. It contains wired and wireless earbuds, charging cable (just in case the flight has outlets for the seats), and a collapsible phone/ iPad stand. I always back at top of my carry on so it’s the first thing i can pull out when i get to my seat. Love your videos. Super informative.
I bring a clear garbage bag in my personal bag to cover my coat to store it under the seat in front of me. Sometimes I bring an extra compression cube to store my puffer jacket in my personal bag during the flight…. Or just use the jacket as a blanket during the flight.
Great timing, I am getting ready for a major trip. I can fit the most in my Vera Bradley bag, so that will be the personal item. No organization, one big pocket, but I plan to put all my on-the-plane essentials in the tray table/pockets thingie I'll hang from my tray table, so that and my thermos are the only things I'll need to grab from my bag before shoving it under my seat. I'll prepack everything in my tray table organizer before heading for the airport.
Nevermind...I just read your tip for packing crossbody...I already do that so I'm happy to see we're thinking alike! Thank you for all the information.
Laurie I've been watching your videos for awhile. And each time I travel...I view your videos to get "Packed." I'm a better and more comfortable traveler because of you...TY!👍🏻😊
Great tips. I'm about to head off overseas to a Mad Max themed event. I would be carry on only but for all the parts of my themed outfit, and my very minimalistic camping setup, which means I have to check a bag. And buy supplies before I drive to the event.
The old " the overhead bin is full" schtick happened to us on Delta this year. We were heading home so it wasnt a huge deal to check our carryon. But I saw tons of overhead bin space when i boarded. I am one of those people who can put the bag in the overhead bin quickly and efficiently but whatever!
Check The type of aircraft ( the overhead bins), this usually determines if gate agents check the bags. A computer indicates when they reach 70% boarding capacity and alerts flight attendants. If bins are 70% full- to avoid delays, whoever has not boarded , the gate agents will begin checking bags. If you happen to be in last group in basic economy , you almost always will need to check your bags UNLESS your bag will fit under your seat. Be prepared and have important items in a carry-on size bag that will fit under seat. All bags are designed to fit under the seat .( May take up some legroom) just cannot accommodate 2 bags per person in overhead when they are originally designed for coats, jackets and purses. -35 year international flight attendant
I always take a neck pillow, but not for my neck-as some extra seat cushioning for often uncomfortable airline seats. I chose one with a removable cover(for obvious reasons, I remove and hand wash when I get home). VERY helpful on longer flights!
We both seem to pack similarly, but you always surprise me with new hacks. I pack my ear plugs in a small zipper container I picked up at Dollar Tree. TFS
0:47 implementing this IMMEDIATELY! I already bought the compression cubes from your vids yesterday. Thanks so much for this! Also just grabbed Bev✈️Ledge. Brilliant!
Laurie, I just adore your vids!! Packing up for a month in Europe right now…2 of my favorite packing tips: 1) as a runner i always own 6-8 pair of running shoes. I like to pack the oldest pair (wearing my heavier shoes on the plane) at the end of the trip I throw away the old sneakers making room for the inevitable tourists hoody or other keepsake I picked up along the way 2) also from my marathoning adventures I fell in love with hydration packs. I now just carry an Osprey (I like the 2+L hard backed hydration bladder) & slip it into whatever backpack, sling, etc I am carrying. They even have one shaped for lumbar bags…no more lost $40 water bottles for me!
Laurie how did I ever travel without your great tips?! I’m going to order that tray table cover shortly-it will really come in handy for my upcoming long haul flights. I have a Vera Bradley Lighten Up Compact Weekender (a version they no longer make) that has lots of pockets I’ll organize much better now (I’ll use it until it falls apart). Thanks for the “otherworldly travel experiences!” 😄
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I’m sure I’ll still make plenty of mistakes (like buying those cute books in the gift shops because they’re flat & easy to pack-but end up being HEAVY), but I’ll share them here with the community when I do.
Grazilla, I bought one tray table cover then made four more - two for no.1 daughter and husband for their Malayan trip, one for no,2 daughter who travels for work and two for me and my grandson’s cruise in October. However, no. 1 daughter said Malaysian airlines tables were too wide!! And no.2 daughter got upgraded to premier class with the little side tables so couldn’t use it! She flies again next week, so will see if it works this time! Good luck with yours!
Dear Laurie, Thank you for this. I have trouble once on board because I get flustered and end up digging and sighing for my in-flight essentials. Thai is helpful and look forward to getting organized. Thank you again!
I am obsessed with your channel!! Love all of the hacks…don’t know how I survived travel before this!😃 I use a very small vinyl reusable zip bag for my AirPods. That way if the case pops open…my airpods don’t fall out. Actually, the case never pops open inside this bag because it’s a snug fit. It’s perfect and easy to find in my bag!
Great tips Laurie! I’m a senior woman traveling to Asia this month carrying only a backpack. This is a new experience for me. I need all the tips I can get!
I like the tray table pocket thingy! Those seat-back pockets can be a bit cavernous...and also I don't think they ever get cleaned...I've found things in there, that....I.....I just can't 😳😂
As a 35 year international flight attendant, I agree-great investment. You are correct, those seats pockets are not sterilized b)t each flight - maybe once a month. They are checked for paper items/ trash, large electronics- turnarounds to clean aircraft do not allow time to thoroughly clean every seat. Wipe down with a disinfectant wipe and place your items inside a large ziplock bag IF you don't have the tray table cover !
Oh my word, it went beautifully! God brought a guy to notice him and 30 mins later he brought 4 friends with him and wanted to play basketball that he had seen me holding! Our son went to the lake with them yesterday.
Laurie, I used a hole punch on my liquids bag so now I can attach it to the outside of my knapsack with a carabiner for easy removal in the TSA line. I also got some Amazon neoprene slippers so I can take my shoes off way before it's my turn in line and put those on to walk through. I can also wear them on the plane and then just pop them in a baggie for washing later. My meds are an issue as they must stay in a refrigerated case. I have letters from the doctor and the pharma company. We will see what TSA has to say in February when we head out.
@@sarahwebber7384 Yup, medical items are exempt. I recently traveled with an in-law who had TWO C-Pap machine and a huge bag of meds in addition to his carry-on and personal item.
In Europe, i know Norwegian Airlines & Easyjet especially will not allow a cross body bag if you have another carry on bag. Ryanair seem quite relaxed about a small cross body bag.
I am STILL loving that striped backpack that you show. It was not only perfect as a carry-on for the 10-day cruise last year; but it is absolutely essential for my short-term (5 days or less) pet sitting gigs. Thanks to you, I have learned how to pack more efficiently and prioritize essentials. I've passed a link to your channel on to my daughter as she and my grandson are going to Europe next year!
Thank you for these great travel ideas! I especially liked this video because I own the same 15.6" Lovevook backpack (in black), and you provided great suggestions for utilizing the compartments more effectively than how I've used it since I purchased it in 2022. Your suggestion for packing a change of clothes in a small compression cube, placed at the bottom is brilliant! I have those Tripped packing cubes and I will use one for my next trip. Using your suggestion will also allow me to leave my suitcase at the AirB&B for an overnight trip by train, instead of dragging my suitcase with me. So your suggestion solved that problem for me too. As a solo female traveler preparing for another 5 week international trip, I'm determined to reduce the weight and bulk of what I will pack for this trip and still be comfortable. Yesterday I purchased a Travelpro Crew Classic 21" Spinner. While I love my Travelpro Rollaboard Carryon which I purchased for last year's 5 week trip to the UK and Ireland because the suitcase has more space than the spinner suitcases do, it's so much easier to wheel a spinner beside you rather than pulling a rollaboard behind you. In a moment of panic this week, I purchased Lovevook's Carry On Backpack 30L because I'm so afraid I won't have room in my suitcase for everything plus souvenirs during such a long trip, but I also don't want to lug a larger "checked bag" suitcase around airports and public transportation either. Hopefully, the larger backpack can stay at home and be used for much shorter trips in the future. Thanks again!
I've worked out that, since I have a laptop to put through the TSA line, I pack the laptop in one of those fold-flat nylon totes. As the line moves toward the TSA agents, I pull out the laptop tote and fill it with my belt, my Liquids Bag, and anything else that will need to go into the gray bins. Then I'm ready to place the small items in one bin, the laptop pulled out and lying on top of the tote, and my backpack and my baggy outerwear either side of those bins. Very easy once I've personally been scanned to toss everything back into the tote before grabbing my outerwear and backpack on the other side of the X-ray machine. Then off to rearrange everything for the flight.
Hi Laurie. I love your videos even though I am very frequent business traveller. You always give great ideas and I know there are many people who aren’t used to travelling that benefit. Anything that helps reduce stress while travelling is awesome! I always travel with an old school handkerchief. A men’s size if you have it of linen or cotton is ideal though I also take an older embroideried one from my great aunt. It can be a tablecloth a napkin. You can tie it in a square to hold a muffin or some fruit. It will mop up condensation (why you want a natural fiber). And it can be a hankie. Also every trip I try to toss things I don’t use. If you wanted to try it just take another empty travel cube and put everything you use in it during your trip and you quickly see how little we really need. Finally I recently started using double caribiners and a Tom Bihn side effect or packing cube bag. You can hang it horizontally on the seat pocket and get everything you need. Happy flights!
I take a cotton napkin, I use it on my lap when eating and drinking, keeps my clothes cleaner and I feel more at home, I also always take a large cotton hankerchief, I find placing the hankerchief over my nose (cowboy style works) is useful to counteract the dry air on the plane, the moisture we breath out remains behind the hankerchief and moistens the air we are breathing in, this is a great way to relieve coughing, sneezing or a stuffed up feeling, and incredibly fall off to sleep quickly! works for young children too, just place the hankerchief triangle loosely over the lower part of the face. believe me it works.
I got dinged 🙄 for my purse (small one like your little black one) and told that I had to either put it into my carryon or I would have to pay to check my carryon bag. I was shocked as I have never had that issue before in the past so now when I travel I make sure that my purse is already in my personal/carryon roller bag before I go through security.
Was just on Southwest Airlines, after announcing that only carry on and personal bag was allowed they let a person get on with kinda large purse, another bag attached to roll on bag. No questions asked. Was pot out bc not everyone was treated the same.
@@joyceviethObviously no way to know for sure, but it's possible that the 3rd bag had medical stuff (or other "exempt items" - pretty much every, or maybe even every, airline has a list) in it, in which case they would be required to not count it against carryon allowance. I used to have to travel with 3 bags for that reason - backpack, carryon suitcase, and bag of medical stuff - and it was against federal law for them to tell me that I could only bring 2 bags precisely because the 3rd was medical (once or twice over the years a gate agent brought it up long before boarding started, but dropped it immediately when I told him it was medical stuff); they let me on with 3 precisely because doing so was treating me the same as everyone else. Just something to consider in the future when you see that sort of thing happen - that might not be the reason every time, but there's no way to know for sure.
These tips are helpful and that 10 day trip packing video is going to be extra helpful because I am travelling for 12 days this fall and this is only my second time traveling. I’m already starting to lay my stuff out and try to get it organized and I have way too much stuff 😅 so I am here to learn as much as I can!
You can do it! Rewearing things (whether washing in between wears or not) will be your friend, as will checking the weather forecast and being realistic about what you would actually wear for whatever sorts of things you'll be doing.
I took flight on Southwest in August and purposefully purchased a waist bag to make it easier to access my documents for the airport. Although the gate attendants made general announcements about "fanny packs" they didn't say anything to me. I was so nervous because I didn't have room to put the waist bag in my carry-on on or personal. I will know going forward. I am in love with packing cubes. They make it so much easier and more organized. I'm also a pocket girl. I found a nice fashionable backpack that has loads of pockets and a band to store on my carry on I plan to purchase.
When I travel first class they don’t make me put my small crossbody purse in my personal bag but they do when I fly in coach. 😂. My cross body purse came with a soft carrying case for my AirPods. It is made of the same material as the purse. The AirPod case has a metal clasp that hooks on to the purse strap. I used it on my last trip and it was so handy. I wore my crossbody during the flight and kept my important documents and my in flight items in it. On the flight home I shortened the strap on my purse and hooked over my tray table. Either way works well. Everything was in reach.
Hi Laurie, Never before, however recently, even my teeniest crossbody bags have not been allowed on two different airlines. I’ve had to put them in my personal item bag at the gate in order to board. Yes, airlines are getting pickier.
Alaska Airlines gate attendant made me put my crossbody bag in my bag. But he also didn’t really seem to care … kinda like he told me the rule but then waved me through. I stopped and put it in my husband’s backpack (mine was full) even though my husband noticed the attendant didn’t really care. I just wanted to be respectful of his request.
I was told by Ryanair and Delta to put my wallet on a string in my carry on. This is just a large wallet for my phone and cards because I don't have a pockets like a man. But to them, it looked like a purse because of the strap. 🙄 I filed a complaint with Delta and received an apology plus a gift card. 😏 Now I just wear it under a light sweater.
This is why I use a larger crossbody bag as my 'handbag' and pack my small Disney park bag inside my suitcase. You'd be surprised how much you can carry in a bag that's 12" x 10" x 5"! We fly to the US about once a year, so I need to keep both a US purse with all the dollars and stuff and a UK purse with Sterling, cards etc on me at all times. When we arrive at our hotel I swap things over and put the UK stuff in the hotel safe - but I do need to have all these items with me through both airports and the flight. I also don't use a backpack (can't carry it) and use a 4-wheel cabin suitcase. Once on the plane I take out the small folding backpack with stuff I will need for the flight which goes under the seat along with my handbag, and then the cabin case goes in the overhead. We have priority boarding, so we always have room for our bags overhead.
Hey 👋🏽👋🏽 found your video because im taking a long haul flight(s) from UK to Borneo ( 3 planes in total) need all the tips!! This was great 👍🏽 thank you ❤❤
I bought the Lovevook backpack in the 17" size and just used it for my first trip. Holds A LOT and my sister in law was so impressed with it that she ordered one too!! Love all your videos!!!
I bought the backpack before seeing this, now I’m happier for getting it. I compared so many travel backpacks on Amazon. I think this is the best for me too. Compression packing pods are next. Thanks for the extra tips for everything.
Hi Laurie, We just got back from 10 days in California I wish I would have got to watch this before my trip. TSA TOOK MY TOOTHPASTE LOL THIS WAS THE BEST EVER BUT WHEN I WAS PACKING FOR HOME, MY DAD GAVE THIS SOFT BLANKET I TRIED PACK IN MY CARRIE ON AND THEN TAKE IT OUT WHILE ON THE PLANE BUT NO I COULDNT GET IT TO FIT. AND FORGOT TO PUT EVERY THING BACK IN SO MY. DAD IS SENDING BOTH OF MY HAIR BRUSHES. I DONT EVEN WANT TO TALK ABOUT CORDS I BOUGHT 2 NEW ONES TO USE FOR MY EARBUDS, TABLET WND PHONE AND A SEPERATE ONE FOR MY WATCH. SO I WILL PROBABLY GO BACK A COUPLE TIMES..... AND THE BIGGEST TRIP EVER WE ARE GOING TO LONDON FOR MY NIECES WEDDING SUMMER 2025.
Your videos have been so helpful! I am terrified that someone will take my passport from the backpack front pocket, so I put everything valuable my laptop compartment that is easy access but against my back. I put snacks and my airplane essentials pouch in the front pocket instead (that's where I put my earbuds as well). I am thinking of bringing a plastic bag or old scarf to put on top of my backpack so I can use it as a footrest without getting it all gross.
I don't usually travel with my best handbags, but when I do, I bring one of those shopping bags that folds into a tiny pouch. I put my "good bag" inside that once on the plane because I don't want my bag touching the floor. When deplaning, I take the good bag out of the folding bag and turn the folding bag inside out before storing it. If I needed a bag to cover up a backpack, I think I'd pack a garbage bag big enough for it to fit into. You can always use a garbage bag when you travel. At only 5'1", I appreciate a footrest.
Thanks to your advice for packing an extra emergency outfit. Due to a recent delay, I missed my connection, and had to spend the night in a new city near the airport. Thankfully, I had the spare outfit of a clean shirt and underthings for my unexpected overnight stay. Your packing tips videos came in handy for planning my first European trip in over 30 years.
One thing I will never pack in my suitcase again is my travel umbrella. I don't know how I got to 2023 without needing a travel umbrella BEFORE reaching my destination, but I got caught in a downpour during my last trip a month ago and my umbrella was packed in my suitcase and not in a spot where I could get to it easily. That sucker is going in my personal item from now on without fail.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie So true! I also gave in and got one of the backpacks you recommended, my new work laptop is HUGE and doesn't fit in my underseat roller bag. (grrr) So I'm going to give the backpack life a try, my next work trip is in 2 weeks. I just have bad associations with backpacks after lugging around all the huge textbooks in the 80s. Who knows, this will probably end up being my favorite bag of all time after I resisted for so long!
I have a mine for several years….. totally worth the price in my humble opinion. I take half, my husband takes the other half and we put 4 days of clothes in it…. Lost luggage back up. Add laundry sheets in there and you’ll be fine!!!

Yes, I never used to wipe that stuff down-and the seat belt buckle.
I bought a replica of a Chanel brooch for $20 to compare materials etc.
I use them to pack my shoes, and I usually throw in a couple of extras too. Much thinner and much lighter than any shoe bag, and they're free.
@@abc-wv4in Agree. I use them for shoes too!
Plastic bags can substitute for bucket to wash clothes in hotel sink if there’s no plug.
Key word: easy!
Love it and you be you!!@@thecleaningteacher638
I just keep everything I'm not actively using in my personal item carry-on instead of stashing it somewhere else. With kids I can see needing to have more things out, but not for myself.

Sounds good to me 👍 I have seen people stuff a diaper in the pocket, enough said.
They can do so much!
I bought a Geometry bar towel super absorbent and fast dry for any use
@@retiredsockmonkey7257 those things are easy to pack!
or at least a papertowel. a wet napkin can make a mess.
Yes those tips could help her.
I watch Laurie and somehow never manage to get it together in the TSA line.😅😅 Luckily everyone has been nice to me and my wheelchair😊
Backpack Replica - also works for Compare - I can't find any difference and still use it for the gym *hotdups*
We’ve never done this before but things do happen.
oh my!! What a crazy experience! I hope you got to buy some lovely things on your trip!
Same thing happened to my stepkids .. he loaded the car for a trip to Vegas (from Ga) .. but forgot to load any of HER luggage and they didn't realize it til they arrived at their destination.
@@briannab5296I’d be pissed. 😡
I use clear plastic folders that seal to store documents so that if there is a leak they are dry.
For my tech, I use slim, tubular shaped pencil cases. It fits nicely in the opposite, outside, water bottle pocket.
Yes such a great travel hack!
Great idea, and they are on sale since school has started!
Genius!
I've started to use pencil cases too!
Smart hack!
Love this!🤗
If you are really short, you can lengthen the straps of your fanny pack and use it as a foot sling while it is hanging from the tray.
Great idea! Thanks for the tip!🤩
“Hey”! It’s been a while since I’ve traveled on a plane, so I started watching your videos again. Even though trip isn’t until months away, I’m starting to organize my stuff ( in my head) for the trip. Thank you for sharing and being so complete. Your videos are a great refresher.
Genius saves bending down all the time and trying to find stuff in your bag😊
Hi Laurie! Something I do for the ice cold bottle of water or other beverage bottle, I keep folded paper towels inside a plastic zip bag, & just slide the bottle into that zip bag, the paper towels absorb the condensation, & being inside the plastic bag, you won’t have a wet spot on your backpack.
I use a sponge that I cut into a circle, and now I'm going to use the plastic bag too! Thanks @krp1956
Since I have a lot of unmatched socks 🤨 I take a clean one and drop my water bottle in! It seems to keep it cool longer too
Love that hack!

Hi, here is a tip I hope you'll never need:
I use a very slim fanny pack.
That is great thinking!
Which thin fanny pack? Do you have a link?
a tip I just picked up from another place, and particularly useful for families: pack all of the stuff that TSA is going to want to look closer at in one carryon. that way one adult can keep tabs on that "high scrutiny" bag, and the other can keep tabs on the kids and the low scrutiny bags.
Ride share services have been great for 7+ day trips vs long term airport parking.
Thank you so much!
Yes having a system is helpful.
I keep a manila folder with the itinerary information in the front pocket of my carryon, plus after the nuisance of having E-tickets for both of us on my phone, I print paper boarding passes, and keep them in the identity page of our passports.
I add printouts of the airport terminals I will be going to. I look at the next one while in the air. Is great if you don’t fly same ones each trip.
@@srdindiana smart.
Great idea! Thx!
I do the same! Family of boys know the pink polish on the plug hugger belongs to me!
Great hack for electronic cables!! Thx
I love how you make little changes to your packing routine, based on your lived experiences
I need to stick to a routine lol; but it's fun to see things differently every single time.
I do the same thing…a list of everything I will need…for my trip….it saves so much time…👍
For many years instead of a water bottle I carry a water bag with a carabiner clip with a screw off and/or pull up drinking top.
Thanks so much!! You may want to double check on hand sanitizer. Remember it needs to go in the bin.
What kind of for rest did you get and do you like it?
Please what are the things that are not allowed in european airports help me to pack?
You are a genius. I never thought to use packing cubes in my carry on. I also never thought to pack according to each types of travel. I go to the train station for a ten hour ride to my hotel where I stay two days before my cruise. Then off to the cruise port to check my larger suitcase and put my carry on in my cabin to set off around the ship. My luggage might not get to my cabin until 6pm from a 10am boarding. Meanwhile I have been digging through my luggage for two days at the hotel throwing any previous organization out the window. THANK YOU!
Oh wow!
I haven’t flown in over 20 years because we generally do road trips. Your videos help me feel much less stressed about my upcoming work trip.
You can do it!
I do that with my water bottles!
@@SnowySpiritRuby genius!
I always forget about carabiners!
The carabiners can also “lock your bag to a seat leg when traveling. A pickpocket would have to work hard to unscrew it. You want the kind that screws shut not the flip style ones. I pack a couple when I travel. @@TravelTipsbyLaurie
@@shellykzookzoo5922 I use a carabiner to hook my sneakers to my bag when I switch to slippers.
Southwest also
I'm guessing they are all tapped out from all the entitled people we see on the news all the time. The world has gone crazy and everyone has road rage. I hope things start to go back to "normal" and soon!
I know of at least one airline where the gate agents get a commission on charging extra bag fees.
These videos are awesome but I don’t understand how it’s mean to expect people to follow rules.
That’s due to my knitting most of the time!😊
Ooh yes, so relaxing on a flight I bet.
We Knitters Gotta Knit! 😂
Thank you thank you. So glad y'all had a great time!
I just bought one of those window cup holders. My husband took it today and loves it! He raved and he never raves.
Oh how funny
tension fan??
Oh nice! I want to take it to Europe one day!
What bag are you talking about.
Hi, it is this one: amzn.to/3AUmMkX@@anitaroger-fields3222
Good to hear you used that backpack on the plane to Europe @lisalu910. I have it as well and plan to use it as my personal so item bag to Italy.
The viewers are the best. The gallon bag in the seat pocket is a game changer. Great video. M
Yes ya'll are!!
Or the 2 gallon bag
I have asthma and have 2 different inhalers. I always take spares for both when travelling. Inhalers in current use is put in the front pocket and the spares are in the main compartment wherever there is a space. If I have a jacket with me I put current inhalers in a jacket pocket that has a zip or snap.
Just got back from Italy…used so many of Laurie’s tips- the pockets that go over the airplane tray was super! Held my phone, kindle, water bottle, and other things I wanted to use in flight.
It holds so much!
I need to get those narrow cards for my husband. That way he can keep his solitaire game all on his own tray table and not mine, too!
Haha I have done that before.
😂😂
Which backpack did you purchase?
I’m always trying to refine my packing/reduce space and weight-I like the Cabeau neck pillow but it’s bulky and feels really hot after a while. Saw this idea and it works great-I got a $12 real (padded) neck brace-it’s designed to hold your neck steady and takes up way less space and is way less hot than an expensive travel neck pillow!
Love it
This is a great tip. Was debating whether to get one of those bulky pillows... I sleep with a chin strap anyway (to keep jowls at bay, lol, but also helps with things like snoring and drooling). So, my strap plus your tip may be all I need!
What's the neck brace you like called?
Thanks so much for sharing these!
Thanks for that review. I was wondering about that app. Now, I will check it out thoroughly.
Hi Laurie. Regarding cables, I use cloth medical tape to create a tab around the wire and write on that what the wire goes to. It has worked out great.
Oh that’s a smart way to organize them.
You can use different color ink or markers to mark the medical tape
I have the airplane pocket for the tray and love it. Can fit so much more is what I want in reach than in the airplane pocket. We are flying first class to Alaska next week for a 13 day cruise. I think trays in first class food out from armrest so
I won’t be taking my airplane pocket😥. Thank you!
Woohoo!!! Have such a beautiful trip. So glad you can check a bag.
I used a black bag for my cords. On a long haul flight, I lost all my cords because the black blended into the tight quarters. Note to self, bright colors are best❤
Oh I can totally understand that. I do like light interiors for that reason now.
Bright colors or a mini mag flashlight!!😊
That black and white striped backpack is the best thing I’ve ever bought for traveling. Watched a previous video of yours recommending that gem and I love all the pockets. It is very well laid out and so attractive too. Thank you!❤
I love it except today I did not pack a crossbody and reaching into that pocket is so frustrating in the airport.
Oooh I definitely need those mini clear pouches lol
They've been so handy. I bought them not realizing they came with so many! Christmas presents lol
Great tip!

Yes that is a good point. I do pull out my essentials from there when I sit.

I always take a neck pillow, but not for my neck-as some extra seat cushioning for often uncomfortable airline seats. I chose one with a removable cover(for obvious reasons, I remove and hand wash when I get home). VERY helpful on longer flights!
I do the same thing… for a cushy butt on uncomfortable airline seats.. some airline seats are like a stadium bench.
We both seem to pack similarly, but you always surprise me with new hacks. I pack my ear plugs in a small zipper container I picked up at Dollar Tree. TFS
Love little containers for packing in a personal item bag.

Thanks so much for your tips!

I put my AirPods in a small pouch in my personal bag. Thinking about you this week as the kids head off to college.
Oh my word, it went beautifully! God brought a guy to notice him and 30 mins later he brought 4 friends with him and wanted to play basketball that he had seen me holding! Our son went to the lake with them yesterday.

That is so great!
I have the same with my medd and nebulizer
Never a problem with TSA as long as I inform them as soon as I am at the conveyor belt.
😂
Liked backpack but doesn't deliver to uk
I love that black and white striped one as well as the light pink one. I have both and they’re fantastic!
Flying out this month and I always review your videos before each trip to keep myself organized. Thanks so much!
Just in time I'm traveling to turkey very soon
Have a beautiful trip!
Thanks for those tip!!
Just had to add-watching your videos is enjoyable b/c u seem so nice!
@@joycevieth- It may have been medications, they are OK as additional carry-on.
Isn’t the 2 bag rule at the airplane, but not at tsa security?
"It's an out of this world experience when you travel with me" hahah :)
So cheesy, right?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie in the best way
These tips are helpful and that 10 day trip packing video is going to be extra helpful because I am travelling for 12 days this fall and this is only my second time traveling.
@@SnowySpiritRuby Thanks. Yes I think the being realistic thing is going to be important to keep in mind!
Wow you are lucky; they have been strict about that with me every time.
Oh. My. Word. Love the strap shortening hack!
Hi Laurie,
Never before, however recently, even my teeniest crossbody bags have not been allowed on two different airlines.
This was great 👍🏽 thank you ❤❤
Have fun! And make memories💕
I bought the Lovevook backpack in the 17" size and just used it for my first trip. Holds A LOT and my sister in law was so impressed with it that she ordered one too!! Love all your videos!!!
That is awesome!
I just ordered one!
The LOVEVOOK backpack is definitely a game changer, love mine.
I bought the backpack before seeing this, now I’m happier for getting it. I compared so many travel backpacks on Amazon. I think this is the best for me too. Compression packing pods are next. Thanks for the extra tips for everything.
Yes! I really have to test and feel to make sure it's great for travel.@@vatriciar2175
Hi Laurie,
We just got back from 10 days in California I wish I would have got to watch this before my trip.
TSA TOOK MY TOOTHPASTE
LOL THIS WAS THE BEST EVER BUT WHEN I WAS PACKING FOR HOME, MY DAD GAVE THIS SOFT BLANKET I TRIED PACK IN MY CARRIE ON AND THEN TAKE IT OUT WHILE ON THE PLANE BUT NO I COULDNT GET IT TO FIT.
Great tips! There is a scarf with a hidden pocket that your passport fits easily in: amzn.to/3OTROjv
Oh wow so glad you could pivot!
I never would've thought of that tip! Experience teaches again.
My mom does not like backpacks because it is hard for her to put them on, but these straps are so smooth. Mine is 15.6 version.@@Rye_Toast
I have a mine for several years….. totally worth the price in my humble opinion. I take half, my husband takes the other half and we put 4 days of clothes in it…. Lost luggage back up. Add laundry sheets in there and you’ll be fine!!!
I love you content Laurie! You’ve made me a much more relaxed and confident traveler.
That makes my day!
I will buying the toiletry bag kit for my upcoming trip to Florida in early April. Thank you Laurie.
It is a great set!
Great tips. I don't think iv ever traveled with a carry on only., don't think I could do it lol. Koodos to those who
I bet you could if you only pack 2 pairs of shoes.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie lol true enough.
