    Brian, thank you for putting this video together! This really helped me in troubleshooting my issue and it seems a quick buy of 100 foot quarter inch hose is causing some back pressure. I swapped to the original 20 foot it started siphoning chemical. It is stated online that with a 2700 psi pressure washer if I go over 60 foot it will most likely stop the chemical to siphon though. I will go with a 50 foot 3/8 hose and try again.

      I had the same exact problem. I have a 3.2GPM with 100’ of 3/8 hose, no draw. Switch to the stock hose and got my draw back. Kinda annoying to switch hose between soak and rinse, but I figured it out.

    Great video Brian. I have never heard it explained in this manner. I bought a new 2.1 gpm injector that works over my house, but did not work over my neighbors house across the street, your explains why I was having that problem. I started using the new injector because after couple years of use the one on the pump stopped working. I bought a nonadjustable replacement injector, but it did not work. So I suspect there might be corrosion internally on the pump side fixed portion. I usually use 10% sodium hypochlorite bleach. I am reminded now to always clean out the line with clean water after use because I noticed that the filter on the end of the tube corroded badly.

  • @bradpetress9765
    @bradpetress9765 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good explanation bud. As a seasoned pressure washer of 30 years, I do know you will find a ¾" water hose will allow more water flow for the allowance for the injector to work properly.

    • @Brian_the_repair_guy
      @Brian_the_repair_guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct. I have found that the flood of "discount" hoses that list 3/4" are reduced to 1/2" where the fittings are attached. Most guys never realize it. But a good 3/4" is a little pricey and they don't want to spend that money. Doesn't make sense sometimes.

    Thank you so much Brain. I had no idea how this injector worked. Very good pressure washer chemical injector lesson 101. I only wish I'd tuned in before I messed up I think; but you be the judge. Tried to do a powerwash for a relative but wasn't getting any chemical. I've only used the washer twice and it worked fine at my place (3+yrs ago). Took the injector nozzle off to see if it was clogged unaware of the steel ball and spring. I didn't see any loose parts, but when I reinstalled the nozzle and started the pump, I got a geyser OUT of the nozzle. If this I/M45810D.2, 2.3GPM, 2600PSI model has the inner workings as you describe, I probably flushed them out into the grass. Also my relative had a smallish water hose, maybe 1/2 inch dia and the coupling at her townhouse water supply had an unstoppable leak. Lost quit a bit of volume there the but pressure felt adequate. I'll hook the pump up at home and see if it draws chemical but if you could look at this model# (purposely left manufacture's name out of this post but if you think "Metal", I'm sure you know who makes it, begins with an "I") to see if there is any thing else that could have failed as a result of the geyser. The design spec sheet show an "O" ring, cone spring, steel ball, a smaller "O" ring and hose barb (nozzle I've called it). I saw none of this when I removed the nozzle/hose barb. Kit #8 should include the afore mentioned parts. Do you think this will get it back up and injecting chemicals? So sorry for such a long post but maybe it can help someone else as well.

    • @Brian_the_repair_guy
      @Brian_the_repair_guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The geyser is caused by the ball missing, possibly other items missing as well. A full rebuild kit would correct this.

    • @johnwhitney8444
      @johnwhitney8444 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brian_the_repair_guy Thanks Brian. I assumed as much. There are 2 kits. #8 includes the items mentioned in the previous post. Kit #9 includes parts downstream of Chemical barb adapter to the pressure hose connection. Do you think I may need these? Or could it have been a water volume issue all along and I messed up when I took the Barb adapter off.

      I took off the injector and it was packed solid probably with calcium or hardened soap and will need to be replaced. Is it likely that the “mixer” (or whatever is in the adjoining part) also has this impacted material? I appreciate the way you explained things in the video, so I figured you understand the workings of the mixer as well.

    I’m hoping you can help me. I bought a 4200 PSI 4.0 DeWalt belt driven with a Honda engine and a Cat pump about 2 years ago and never used it. I pulled it out today for the first time and it’s not picking up chemicals. I’m getting over 5 gallons per minute ( overflowed a 5 gallon bucket in 43 seconds ). I took it apart and the ball and spring are not stuck and freely moving. The arrow is pointing out. Everything looks great it just isn’t picking up the chemicals. I have a question, and thank you for the video, I have the same set up as you in this video on my 3.2 GPM and I want to use my down stream injector (same as yours) rather than the stock injector (same location as yours). Can I cap off the stock injector to use only my down stream injector??? Reason I’m doing this is I’m running hot SH mixes sometimes and I do not want any back flow going into pump at all as that will destroy the pump. I will also be upgrading machine in future (8 GPM belt) and would rather keep the same set up. Thank you if you or anybody else can respond.

    Great explanation. I have that same injector and it is brand new as is the 5 gpm 3000 psi machine. I used it one day and started having trouble with the ball getting stuck in it's o ring seat. I am very mechanically inclined and have taken it apart several times now. What is weird is that when I throttle down the machine and the flow and pressure drop it sucks like you know what!. If I throttle it wide open the ball gets jammed in the O ring from back pressure I guess and stops sucking. I am only running 100' of brand new hose. everything is sized correctly and is brand new. The ball itself to me feels like it is not perfectly round from the factory. Now I did over tighten the adjustment collar thinking it was loose the first day i used it. not realizing it was an adjustable metering thing, I thought oh crap I need to tighten this up so I did with small channel locks but I don't think it was enough to damage the O ring. But I think it likes to get stuck really easy when the pressure goes up now. Have you seen this problem or just replaced the O ring seat before? Any thoughts would be appreciated Thank You!!

    Hi Brian, Thanks for the helpful video. I connected an injector to my Simpson 2.5 GPM machine. A strange thing happened. The pressure of the water through the injector without the machine running caused a narrow jet like spray with no chemicals. When I stopped the flow with my thumb and released it the water came out like it would if it were from a detached garden hose.. but it was full of chemicals which tells me the injector is working.
    When I attached the pressure hose with the black/soap tip and the engine running no chemicals were produced.
    I’m lost as to what the problem is.

      If chemicals are moving with no pressure hose and gun, but do not move with the pressure hose a d gun then typically the hose or gun is the problem. If they have build up or corrosion they restrict the flow and the injector will not work properly

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

      The volume of water, not pressure will dictate the flow of soap in the injector. You must use the black tip to allow the flow of soap. If there is no flow, then follow the direction in this video

    Hi Brian, I have a NorthStar pressure washer 9hp 3GPM with a CAT 4SPX pump. The downstream chemical injector works with the wand and black tip but won't work when I attach the 18FT washer pole I also purchased (tip or no tip). I have had both of these for 10 years but never tried to spray chemical though the pole until today. I thought I may have too much hose so I connected the 18FT pole strait to the unit (no hose) and still won't siphon chemical. Any ideas?

    • @Brian_the_repair_guy
      @Brian_the_repair_guy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is typical. The addition of the pole changes the requirements for the injector to work properly. You can look for an injector that attaches at the end of the wand. I have seen guys put their injector at the connection between the gun and hose with success

    Brian Shumack. Your explanation on how to trouble shoot a down loader is great! REALLY ! Yet, I am still having difficulties. I replaced my rusty cannon ball valve with a new one. I started my machine without the pressure washing hose attached and it drew chemical right away. Then, i attached just the pressure washing hose and again, it drew right away. Then, i attached the gun (without the tip) and again, it drew right away.
    Then, i installed the tip and everything stopped! No draw, no nothing. Could this be my gun is failing ?

      It is possible one of a few things is occurring. If each thing is working up until the tip, I would suggest switching the hose or gun and see if there is a change. If you have a build up of corrosion in the hose or gun, the tip could allow just enough of the flow to be reduced so the injector fails. That would be the easiest thing to try first.
      Make sure the water is full pressure from the faucet and use no more than 50 feet of water hose. Let me know what you get. If this does not resolve the issue we will look at other possibilities.

      1. You must be able to fill a 5 gallon bucket in a minute to insure you have enough water volume.
      2. If the volume is good, hook 1 water hose to the pump, install injector, turn water on, turn engine on, see if you get chemical. If you do, then your pressure hose or gun is the issue. If you do not get chemical then the injector is the issue. Make sure the injector is in the correct direction. There is an arrow pointing in the direction of water flow. It should be away from the machine.
      Use only 1 50 foot of water and pressure hose.

    Hello, Do you have any experience or knowledge of Ryobi 2.5 GPM pressure washers with a downstream injector? I have a Ryobi 3100 PSI 2.5 GPM. I bought an injector from amazon with a 2.0mm orifice that said that it works with 2-5 GPM machines, but it did not work. I am going to try your troubleshooting steps starting without the pressure hose and see; I read on the reviews some people complained that it did not work with a 50ft pressure hose and others that it worked. I also ordered a 1.8mm orifice injector to try because I think the 2.0mm is more for 3-5 GPM.

I did a “draw” test and I got 0.25 gal soap per every 3.5 gal water that is equal to 1:14. Using a 10% SH equal to 10÷14= 0.7%. I guess 0.7% is the most I can get?
