My favorite thing about this song is that Kaytin Robinson was so inspired by Taylor’s song “Clean” from 1989 that she wrote the movie Someone Great. Taylor, not knowing her music inspired it, watched the movie and was inspired to write“Death by 1000 Cuts”
@@jessethecomet are you watching n5? Travis is there. I’ve been watching via tess. Swiftball has been kicking my ass n4 was my worst score of the whole tour. Where is the rest of her outfits for Pete’s sake?!
This song contains one of her most underrated lyrics ever imo. "Paper cut stings from our paper thin plans" gives me little chills every time no matter what. Lizzy McAlpine also has a really amazing tiny desk concert as well if you'd wanna get into another artist in this more intimate setting!
The funny thing is that this song was inspired by a movie she watched on Netflix called Someone Great, which was actually inspired by Taylor’s album 1989, so Taylor basically inspired herself in a way lol
You know she used to invite fans that she had stalked online for a while to her different homes to play new songs before releasing officially an album. She did that several times. I don’t think it can be more intimate than that as her mom passes around cookies and call fans by their names…. She used to call them the secret sessions
BBC Live Lounge "London Boy" performance for 1- a great live, intimate performance 2- a fun, happy one! 3- the dynamics with her back-up singers and band
Taylor said this song was inspired by the movie “Someone Great” and on hearing this the writer of the movie said she listened to Clean by Taylor a lot while writing the movie
You should definitely do Cornelia Street live in Paris! It’s just her and a guitar, the song slaps, the vocals are impeccable, just one my favourite performances of her!
I cant believe anyone ever heard "Lover" album and thought it was a happy album. The entire album is abt an imbalanced relationship and anxiety and fear of loss, and dont get me wrong, I'm here for it. Its one of my fav albums 😂❤ This song particularly, "trying to find a part of me you didnt take up" literally. 🤦♀️💜
I heard someone say that for her next tour, the only way she could top The Eras Tour is to either be on the stage, just her and a guitar, or to perform from somewhere in outer space. Personally, I would like to see the first option.
I’ve been binge watching all of your Taylor reactions! Love them!! I recommend Blank Space from the Grammy museum performances because you get to hear her talk about what inspired the song! All of the Grammy museum performances are next level
My mom was bedridden for a while and watched all kinds of Tiny Desk Concerts, and she said Taylor Swift was the artist she saw perform the whole thing on their own.
John Green has talked about this before. Like, would he be able to write books if he took medication or did therapy for his anxiety? And what he basically said is, yes. He is a better writer when his mental health is going well. The 'tortured artist' (and I know this is ironic because Taylor's next album is called The Tortured Poets Department) is a myth, perpetuated to romanticize suffering as 'inspiration' because when you're in the throes of suffering you feel like you deserve it and you want to make something good out of it at least, so hey, why not call it your muse?
If you guys like when she talks and explains the songs and their inspiration you should do a reaction to the long pond sessions in full she talks before and after each song and it is really cool
This is my favorite Taylor song. So glad you guys checked it out. To me, the live version from Paris is the best performance of this song but the tiny desk one is a very close second. 🙂
it’s such an excellent bridge easily one of my favorites of hers! especially the paper cut stains from my paper thin plans and my time my wine my spirit my trust trying to find a part of me you didn’t take up. incredible!!! great reaction as always guys 🥰🤍
The whole concert is 4 songs and takes about a half hour, so you should plan to simply watch the whole thing. And, at a few points you get some perspectives on the room and the audience. You also get to hear her give some insights into her songwriting process (sorta like in the Long Pond Sessions, but with the Lover album). Don’t know if y’all will see this but I thought this info could contribute to the discussion. 1. The brain doesn’t develop completely until after 23 years old. 2. The last stage of development is the executive function, which is decision making. 3. Consent includes that someone has an understanding and experience to make the decision to consent. ❤
Someone probably already told you in the comments but they said there was over 300 people packed into this tiny desk concert including NPR employees and friends. ❤
Thank you for not pausing during that epic bridge. I hate when reactors cut it up, it needs to flow! Tbh I like the Live in Paris version of this a lot better. Either way, imo it's one of her best constructed bridges.
As always, enjoyed you boys today. Interesting topic...happyVSbreak up songs. Am reminded of all the musicians who get clean/sober. They're completely different, and their music goes on.
I think paper rings is one of the happiest loves songs I’ve ever heard ❤️🫶🏼 you three will LOVE that one if your in the mood for the happy 🥰 it makes you wanna dance and hug and kiss and rub noses and make core memories
If you want to watch this again without the overwhelm (I get the same way) watch the live version from Paris because you’ll get the acoustic intimate feel but everything is dark so you can’t see all the people. The acoustic ones she does there are also great without the visual attack lol ;)
That part where she's ramping up feels like shes about to lose her composure. And then, "I'll be alright its just.. (like taking a moment to pull herself together and slow herself down) a thousand....cuts "
The whole tiny desk concert is amazing. They show the room at the beginning and it's standing room only and they are packed in. It might genuinely be close to 50 people jammed in with a few young kids up front. I wonder how they determined who got to attend or if it was everyone who worked for NPR and their kids. She does an acoustic version of The Man to start off with and I highly recommend it along with the opening speech. There is also some really great footage from the original RED rollout of a livestream she did. It is a much more intimate setting and she plays 3 songs acoustically on guitar, Treacherous, 22 and Red.
If any of you guys are close to your grandma do Margari… and prepare to not be okay. Her grandmother was a famous opera singer and actual has a little bit of her voice in the song
The song “Ronan” by Taylor the saddest song ever…I was crying so bad…it will be a real competition for Jake You definitely should listen this song Love you guys💕
For fun songs and vibes from Taylor you guys should watch You need to calm down, or Me! And tgeres BTS vids for both that really capture her goofy side. And a song not many talk about, but is eorth a watch, is The last time.
Please react to Marjorie or The Best Day. Marjorie is dedicated to her grandmother and the best day is dedicated to her mom the music video is childhood home videos and she surprised her mom with it on Mother’s Day it’s really cute
The whole lover’s lounge live from Paris is chefs kiss 💋 it’s the light happy reprieve you need between dear John and would’ve could’ve should’ve I understand why you needed a break from the JM death spiral, but when you do do it you must listen to would’ve could’ve should’ve and bigger than the whole sky back to back. Because of you do it’s very hard not to conclude they’re connected. But, like, take a hot bath first or something. It’s rough. If you’ve not listened to exile Ft Bon Iver yet you should. It’s hauntingly good. His voice sets the tone of the song then together they just… crack open your heart. Then go back to miss Americana for some sweet home songs and stories. By then the Eras tour will be streaming on Disney+ Who knows, we may get lucky and get repTV BEFORE TTPD 🤩🤞🏼 But PLEASE, drop everything the moment TTPD drops so we can all react together
My comment has nothing to do with Tay Tay … and this comes out of left field but l would love you to comment on the song … “ The Girl that never was “… by James Blunt … it will hit your C spot !!!
I think Jake would make a better partner than Travis Kelce! It seems like he’d appreciate her vs Travis seeing how much her affiliation will help his career (and his entire family!). Each person has 2-4 sponsorships now. He never even says her name. It seems like he’d be sensitive and intelligent enough to be a great person to be a perfect partner to make each other happy (unless he already has someone and then I’m VERY sorry!!). I can picture it so well. ❤🎉
Yikes. It was crystal. Benjamin’s wife. Remember to use your own credit card in the future 😂 thank y’all for doing this one!
Thanks Crystal! Great choice!
🤣 Thanks Crystal!!
Thanks Crystal for being the best wife ever. We can thank Ben also I guess 😅
Haha I thought maybe it was a fan who used the name Benjamin because Taylor has a cat with that name 😂❤
My favorite thing about this song is that Kaytin Robinson was so inspired by Taylor’s song “Clean” from 1989 that she wrote the movie Someone Great. Taylor, not knowing her music inspired it, watched the movie and was inspired to write“Death by 1000 Cuts”
The overlap is unmatched
Serendipitaylor Swiftception 👌🏼
She played clean and dbatc at my show arlington 4/1. It was beautifully devasting
My favorite story!
How haven't I heard this. Tytyty I knew about the 1000 cuts story but not the clean story. My mind is blown once again by the mastermind 💙💙💙
OMG the timing she is playing this song rn on tour as a surprise song
Right?! And the mash up with Babe? I would’ve never thought to pair those two songs. It was great!
HOW COULD YOU DOOO THIS, BABE
