    The mediator would be my choice. I like the way you do your battle videos. A numbering system rather than winner/loser in each category gives a more accurate depiction of your overall opinion.

    I've been waiting on a comparison between these 2. I've had an axis 940, and have always loved the look of the mediator!

    Great comparison! I've got a 940 and the mediator, and between the two I prefer the less belly/pointier blade on the 940 so I'm just waiting for the day when I get my hands on the 9400.

    I've been carrying the mediator for a couple months now. Love it so far. Smaller than my usual EDC. Was carrying a 583 Barrage. Once i got used to the size it was perfect.

    I’ve been carrying the mediator for almost a year now. It’s become a perfect size for EDC in my opinion. It’s light in the pocket and has tht nice mini pocket clip. It’s a great choice

    Hi. I just bought mediator. I noticed theres a slight blade play up n down when i wiggle down the tip. Is this normal? I could not notice it when i use it. But the play is there. I want to know whether this kind of play os normal or not. Because this one is my 1st auto knife. Thanks

    Great comparison. I agree with the Mediator being a better value. I really like the 940/9400 but I think I like the Mediator more. Great video Triple E!

    The sliding lock on the 9400 reminds me of the lock on the Ruike P138. Always wanted a 940 so I'd go 9400 (even though I can only own them as a collector in my state).

    I love the blade shape of the Mediator, it's just such a simple and classic look. The Mediator is almost what I'd consider perfect: get rid of that snag area on the back end of the blade when it's closed, make it a wash or something other than the black coat, and give it the 9400s back safety lock (while somehow keeping the jimping) and you'll have close to what I'd consider a perfect aesthetic (and it wouldn't hurt to have scales that had a different pattern in them). All in all, great review. I've used the 940 for a long time, and the Mediator is the closest thing BM has come to offering me a useable replacement. Thanks for the review!

    👍 Good, fair comparison of these two knives.
    I bought the 9400 so we do disagree on the “value” element.
    The term “super steel” tickles me as we have moved very quickly from one “super steel” to the next over the last decade. All knives become dull; therefore, to me a “super steel” is the one that is the easiest to sharpen, a factor not usually discussed in reviews. I don’t find sharpening all that hard or cumbersome but if someone does I believe Benchmade has a sharpening service.
    Your review actually validated my purchase of the 9400.

    Thanks for the detailed comparison of these two! I'd personally prefer the 9400 because of its looks (the mediator being a little too aggresive for my personal taste) and how much I like my 940, but since where I live you're not allowed to carry auto's I've been mostly trying to forget that there's such a thing as a 9400 out there :-)

    I was looking for a new knife and was considering both of these as well as a couple other Benchmades. I ended up with the Mediator due to the value of the better steel, the fact that it’s lighter, it felt better in my hand, and I also preferred it’s appearance/style. You really can’t go wrong either way. But I was able to purchase the Mediator for $18 less than what they were selling the 9400.

    • @nathanv9562

      One year later and I’m still carrying the Mediator as my EDC. Absolutely impressed with it. I won’t be changing it out unless something else comes out that’s just blows it away. But I seriously doubt that is going to happen. Shame Benchmade discontinued this knife. But I’m so happy to have found one, and got it for a discounted price!!!

It’s a shame Benchmade discontinued it though.. I would still really like to own one no doubt..

    Super steel, super steel s30v s90v……good lord they’re both good steels and more than we all need for edc I’d think. If you can sharpen a knife you can sharpen a knife. If it was me I’d buy the mediator. Just because I don’t like the green and purple handle. But if I had to I’d carry the 9400 no problem.

    • @TripleEEDC

      I agree that S30V is more than enough for nearly any user. S90V is a better value at the price but both are excellent steels.

    For a little more money on the Mediator, you're getting better steel S90V vs S30V. Either way both are very good EDC knives.

      The Mediator is actually cheaper ($206) from certain retailers.

      @MegaYangman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TripleEEDC Never seen a new Mediator for $206 ever. Every where I looked it's $249 vs the 9400 at $229. I already have a Mediator but at $206 that's like buying new at used price.

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MegaYangman there are a few places that have an unmarked price. Since Benchmade has MAP pricing, they could get in trouble if they advertised the actual price. As a result, I can’t post here who it is but if you email me at triple.e.edc@gmail, I’ll fill you in.

    G10 and s90v on the osborne would make it a clear winner

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love S90V! I’d take aluminum all day over G10 though, but I definitely would agree overall that if the materials and cost were the same, I would probably take the Osborne. Additional context: I am carrying an M4 940 Osborne today with Zirc aftermarket scales.

      @@TripleEEDC It looks like a kids toy and feels like one too.
      Also, an Axis lock failed on me ans I almost lost a finger. So there's that.

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mistersmith3986 I’m cant imagine how that could have happened. the axis lock is one of the strongest locks on the market. Sal from Spyderco even acknowledged and gave credit to Benchmade for having one of the strongest locks. There are also videos online showing how much force must be applied for lock failure, and the axis lock had incredible results. Moreover, the axis lock keeps your fingers out of the blade path when closing, so how did it close on you? Is it possible you had a fake/clone? 940s do not feel like toys. They feel solid.

    • @mistersmith3986
      @mistersmith3986 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TripleEEDC You obviously haven't paid attention to all the people who have had Axis locks fail.
      And when I bring this up most Benchmade owners tell me that it can be repaired. Um, no. The whole point of a locking system is to NOT fail. It's like the brakes on a car.
      And there are stronger and more reliable locks than the Axis lock.
