- Pulaski Road is a major north-south street in the city of Chicago, at 4000 W., or exactly five miles west of State Street. It is named after American Revolutionary War hero Casimir Pulaski.
Pulaski Road was originally known as 40th Avenue. In 1913 it was renamed for Peter Crawford, an early area landowner, in order to avoid duplication of the 40th Street name in the city. The name Crawford Avenue lasted until 1935 when, over local opposition and a legal battle all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court, the street was renamed for Pulaski.
It starts at the intersection of 24th St. and Pulaski and goes north all the way to intersection with Diversey Ave..
I would've started from 31st and gone up to North Ave, after that the danger drops drastically. Appreciate the video nonetheless!
You picked a beautiful day for your trip, and I liked the fact that I could read the street signs.
Sun light makes everything look better.
There's one building you passed, at the northwest corner of Pulaski and Washington, that looks like it might be a good place for new apartments... if enough money could be gathered to fix it up. Judging by all the broken windows, I suspect that would take a great deal of money.
Thanks for the video!
1:33 less than a block west I was born there 80 years ago. Nice Czech Bohemian neighborhood. No TV then so people in the summer would take a evening walks on 21st pl to cool off. The street ended at Kostner Ave. The Sparta Stadium was on the other side of Kostner. Grandparents live in the last apartment before the intersection. We moved West before things changed, A long time ago in a land far away.
I love reading comments like yours.
Thank you for this very interesting video. I love Pulaski Road because of its variation and the sturdy powerful buildings and small enterprises.
I am glad you like it.
@@drivingdude8849 Very. My city is Chicago which I love very much.
@@zuzannawisniewska4464 We all do.
Austin is dangerous, Lawndale, Woodlawn, Auburn Gresham, Kenwood, Bronzeville.I'm from Chicago...
He’s in Garfield Park most of the vid, not Austin. Most of the crime in Austin is block 2 block…i live in Austin and haven’t really had anything happen besides a stolen bike lol
When me & wifey went to the chi we went by kellz studio it had it had a spooky vibe around it 😶.🤘🏾👌🏾 🚩.
You should have stopped at Jimmies, Grand and Pulaski for a dog with some greasy fries.
I will next time... 👍
That place is good. I wonder if the Hobo is still their.
5:45 almost like slums in Africa
There are some really neglected places in Chicago.
Danger Will Robison.. anywhere north of 47th street to Belmont...don't go down it after 1am...
It is dangerous everywhere in Chicago after 1 am
Sometimes its a small world. I was born in 1944 on 21st pl west of Pulaski. In 1969 Basic training at Ft Leonard Wood MO. On night watch the two of us started talking. Wound up he was from the same area - he was black.
The two things I remember most was when he said it was really clever to burn Whitey out in 68. Now the local stores were gone he had to drive to shop.
The other was he went for a job in Cicero. He got off the bus and some guys informed him he got off at the wrong stop.
When I went in in 69 it was hard to get past 1st base with a girl. Got out in 71 and it was free love.
It was a strange time.
This is NOT the most dangerous neighborhood 😢
So what is? Austin, WGP, Lawndale?
He’s in WGP for a good amount of the vid, literally the most dangerous hood in Chicago 😂 i live right onna outside of Austin tho
it gets sketchy at that corner right off the blue line. lived here all my life
trying to get out though.
Wishing for the best homie
Stop by Raymond tacos by the green line on lake and Pulaski. The tacos there are delicious, deep fried shells everything on it for 4$ a taco and they are big tacos not the smallest ones everywhere else
I believe you bit it is a bit scarry out there...
@@drivingdude8849 just mind your business and you can come get 🌮 s
@@drivingdude8849 I lived down the street from there I heard gun shots but I never had problems with any one just be cool, be polite and respectful and help people if they ask for a dollar or two or don't be ignorant bc they will get on your heels . Basically mind you business and you will be cool
A thriving and well-maintained neighborhood compared to the streets I drive everyday in South Collinwood and East Cleveland!
I agree with you 100%. The hood looks quite nice in Chicago except for a few neglected areas.
It looks like trash and this is just one street. Tons of garbage in Chicago.
It looks way better than 30 years ago.
@@69eddieD doubt
@@69eddieD I can believe you.
Pulaski is nice on the southwest side
I have to admit I like it more than Cicero Ave.
Agreed.
I was born n raised 13th pulaski
4.99 per gallon? What the fuck? No wonder they're rioting
I have been here in the hotel is beautiful
Which one?
Kedzie and homan are absolutely horrible from cermak to grand Ave. Pulaski actually isn’t that bad.
I am thinking about doing Kedzie.
@@drivingdude8849 where the main warming center is in winter. In summer it becomes a cooling center on very hot days. Spawned by the infamous heat wave of 1995.
@@brianbeecher3084 I remember that heat wave well. There were several days in succession when temperatures were above 100. It's common for Chicago to go years without temperatures going to 100 or higher, but there are plenty of high eighties and nineties with high humidity. Lake Michigan doesn't cool things off that much during a heat wave because wind is from southwest. You need to go around the lake to the Michigan side for cooler temperatures.
Unfortunately many of the people who died during the 95 heat wave locked themselves in their homes and shut the windows for security even if they didn't have AC. They must have thought it wouldn't get that hot with windows closed, obviously wrong. Of course many of those who died were elderly and/or were in poor health.
Hahahaha I believe you I used to live off Homan.
@@brianbeecher3084yep. There's a warming and cooling center at 10 s. KEDZIE.
Yo conozco todo ese lugar siempre estaba por ahí
should started from 31st .. you missed showing ppl 26st
Next time I will...
JIMMY's Red Hots wins for longest run in business.
It is sad but there aren't many long-term businesses like JIMMY's Red Hots left in town after the pandemic.
Since I am from the southwest side of the city I am not familiar with this part of Chicago at all. Actually, I wouldn't be caught dead on this part of the city.
For some reason I like driving on Pulaski...
No dope boys and not even one street walkin ho. Come back after 10 pm when it all breaks loose.

What a dump
South side
Why don't you drive down 79 street or 26th street or hall street? Even then I'd be impressed do it right after the sun goes down you guys. It's a sunny day it's nice outside and that's the hood so what
Halsted
I think its about time these neighborhoods are taken back by reputable people!!!
I hope you are right.
Many have been, but through the controversial process of gentrification. Still not as Godforsaken as they were a couple of decades back.
STFU Kracka!!!
