That "hotel district" part of Rosemont (w/ the Hyatt, Embassy, Hilton, Crown Plaza, you name it, all in one fairly-short radius)- esp. near the convention center- is AWESOME. I esp. love the Skyway between Hyatt and Stephens Convention Center (not to mention the digital "announcement board" in the middle of that area) At night, it has such an "iconic" vibe, ngl. Very "aesthetic", so to speak good level of walkability (more or less, for a part of "Chicago" outside the city proper), along w/ a nearby L station (Blue Line) AND it's, like... barely 5 miles from O'Hare Airport, I think? Last time I went to Acen was, like... 2015 or 2016. Later, I took a trip to Chicago for the first time outside of a con, in 2017 or 2018, if memory serves. Stayed at the Hampton Inn near the 7-11 (esp. to explore Chicago a bit while saving money on lodging) Took a longer trip (about a week) and stayed in the Rosemont Embassy Suites (which, among other things, had a pretty-nice breakfast buffet- YUM), in 2022. Made extensive use of the L w/in Chicago proper, of course I was amazed at how easy it was to walk around that part of Rosemont, in my 2022 trip, esp. intersection-wise! I barely felt "threatened" by the movement of cars there when crossing from one point of the sidewalk to another. They finally had put in place the proper traffic infrastructure to give pedestrians *at all points* of the sidewalk, in Rosemont (or, at least, that chunk of it) safe crossing (esp. to keep cars at bay) Compare that to my time at Rosemont for Acen less than a decade prior. Some parts of walking via the sidewalk, when coming across a traffic intersection, were *scary af*. I had to watch *every direction* and plan *extremely-carefully*, to be on the safe side. Nerve-wracking Previously, it was kind-of a "gamble", and I took upwards of 5-10 minutes trying to "figure out", at one or 2 intersections during the day, "Should I cross now?" That's how "chaotic" it was back in the day, as a pedestrian. It was sometimes difficult to 'know for sure' when you could walk or run across w/o risk of getting hit Of course, some more "adventurous" folks may disagree w/ me on that, but... I don't like to take unnecessary chances w/ my safety, esp. road-wise!

Sometimes its a small world. I was born in 1944 on 21st pl west of Pulaski. In 1969 Basic training at Ft Leonard Wood MO. On night watch the two of us started talking. Wound up he was from the same area - he was black. The two things I remember most was when he said it was really clever to burn Whitey out in 68. Now the local stores were gone he had to drive to shop. The other was he went for a job in Cicero. He got off the bus and some guys informed him he got off at the wrong stop. When I went in in 69 it was hard to get past 1st base with a girl. Got out in 71 and it was free love. It was a strange time.

1:33 less than a block west I was born there 80 years ago. Nice Czech Bohemian neighborhood. No TV then so people in the summer would take a evening walks on 21st pl to cool off. The street ended at Kostner Ave. The Sparta Stadium was on the other side of Kostner. Grandparents live in the last apartment before the intersection. We moved West before things changed, A long time ago in a land far away.
