Yeah this is a nice hood honestly I can say about Chicago the area may be dangerous but it looks pretty good compared to other cities when you know it’s a rough area. Good content!
Austin, Chicago is very big. There are nice sections of it. And even in the bad parts, it goes block by block. Fyi Hugh Hefner and Walt Disney are from the Galewood neighborhood in Austin, Chicago
Until pretty recently, Austin was largest community in Chicago, its population has dropped and no longer biggest in population. The NW corner of Austin near Elmwood Pk (Galewood) has some beautiful homes, as does boulevards just east of Austin Blvd with parkways in middle of streets. At 7:14 or so to right can see former St Anne’s Hospital, once a booming hospital, and at 25:10 the former St Thomas Aquinas Church (now St Martin de Porres). Austin was beautiful in its heyday.
It's definitely a different experience being here at night with people outside. I get in, I get out, and mind my business during my stay. It's mostly cool though as long as you aren't starting trouble and mean mugging people for no reason. Small tip for people not used to being in these areas: don't get too curious. Staring at people is one of the easiest routes to conflict. Pay attention for certain, just not to the point where you stand out too tough.
Say what you will but it is a beautiful side of the city, despite the ongoing problems. You can tell most of the residents here are not like those so often seen in the limelight of the news--homes are well maintained with nice gardens and lawns. People out working instead of the open air drug markets of Garfield Park and all over west coast cities. This area obviously has its share of unnecessary violence and out of control gangs but maybe it wouldn't be such a problem if the city invested in these areas instead of building risky migrant tent sites on the south side.
What beauty, the mature trees changing colors in autumn, sidewalks, nice houses, no ugly parking lots like in the suburbs. It sucks that this neighborhood is now plagued with crime.
aSo did I. Loved Austin and my mom had a little ladies shop at Central and Madison but when certain minorities moved it she was threatened to get out as it was their neighborhood now. My little 4'10" elderly lady was frightened when they threw her merchandise around and sold out at a loss.
Don't get it twisted it may look nice but this neighborhood had over 70 murders in 2021 making it the worst neighborhood last year, and is looking to repeat itself this year
@@kellymidgyett8642 Right. But Austin, Chicago is NOT one neighborhood. It's a community area with many neighborhoods. Some actually look nice and are safe. Even in the bad neighborhoods of Austin is goes block by block. You can have two safe quiet blocks and the next two blocks over it can have multiple bodies and drug dealers and gang bangers
I grew up at North and Kostner during the 1950s and 60s, Austin was the really great neighborhood then, Austin High a good school, beautiful apartment buildings, parks. Plus it borders Oak Park ,another beautiful city
These people that make these videos piss me off. If going through a big intersection or sitting at a red light, could you show us some street signs so we know where your at. Da!
Austin was a neighborhood with highest number of homicides in Chicago in 2021. Fortunately, the situation seems to look a bit better in 2022.

The hood in the West Side of Chicago like Austin, West and East Garfield Parks look really nice. Personally I like Hade Park on South Side the most.

No question that there are interesting houses in Austin.

Agreed, and to stay safe just mind your business and as long as you have common sense you should be fine.
I’m from the Austin community, central and west end… looks pleasant because it borders the suburbs but people get murdered often here, don’t be fooled
I know that Austin is dangerous.
Nice trip! Still warm and sunny!
The weather is still nice in Chicago.
Austin is the second most populated neighborhood in Chicago, Rogers Park being number one. Beautiful buildings.

City is so geographically large, been here "forever" and have not seen 75% of it. What is in this video, I have seen only on youtube.
Yes, Chicago is a large city.

Yes, this is the area. The same can be told about most of Chicago's hood... it doesn't look bad but it is dangerous.
Exactly 65 in 2021 and 71 in 2020. It is a little bit better this year but still dangerous.
