They are not in the same league as you excellently explained 1:18 in the beginning: Surface Pro 8 is a desktop replacement, a workhorse even for professional application development. I happily used an Surface Pro 4 (i7/16G/500G) as my main computer for office, development, video, drawing for 6 years or so. The ipad and Android are "just" consumer products with very limited use. Of course, when you want the best drawing experinece and you love Concepts, Procreate or Affinity Designer, iPad is the way to go. After watching your videos, now my primary drawing gear is Concepts on Samsung Tab S7 FE, brutally excellent combo, the vector art coming from Concepts is mind blowing. The idea of using Concepts came from You, Sir; I will be forever gratefur for this conncept.
Digital art on tablets is blowing up so I think they will. I see more and more art hobbyists and professionals using tablets. So they'll definitely meet the raising demand and make more apps to accommodate.
My experience as an artist, go for Samsung. I've Samsung Tab S7+ as well as surface pro and the working experience with Samsung+dex+S Pen is amazing and I dont think I ever leave it for Surface or iPad. But the surface is not as impressive as you think simply because windows is not the right OS for a small tablet. It lags and the experience is noticeably less enjoyable compared to Samsung. The ipad (the one I tried belongs to my friend) is really weird in file management and multi tasking. It does not have anything like Samsung dex so you can never truly use it as a laptop. The pen also feels like you are scratching on a glass surface and it does not feel natural. However the available apps on App store are much more than google play for an artist. Hope the art/design app gap gets closer in the future between android and ios
@@blackbriarwolf5766references, watching stuff in the background while reading, etc. Not always used but it's handy and I enjoy the multi-task features, much better for things like docs, note-taking, writing etc compared to entertainment

I feel like you don't really know what you're talking about. I've used windows, Android and ipadOS extensively You're right that windows isn't ideal for a tablet experience, but you only use it as a tablet when using programs that do work for tablet usage, such as drawing apps.
@@wmoros4902but the thing is you can still do multi tasking on iPad ,it’s not like it doesn’t work at all ,stage manager might not be perfect but it definitely work and new iPadOS is already improving it
out of all the stuff i was looking through trying to figure out more about each of these.....this has been the single most helpful video to help me decide.....
Samsung's original s-pen is mainly made for taking notes. The pressure sensor is not very good. If you want to use it for professional painting purposes, please buy a better wacom EMR pen. The initial activation force sensor has two data items, one is the grams of initial activation pressure, and the other is the percentage value of initial activation pressure (subject to krita pressure percentage test. The lower the percentage, the greater the pressure change of the drawn line) I have tested the wacom UD EMR technology pen with many enthusiasts. At present, only zbook x2 stylus has reached the 0.01% pressure percentage value of 1 gram IAF / krita of propen2 level, and the slightly worse is the 1-2 gram IAF / 0.01% pressure percentage value of conceptd 9 stylus / conceptd ezel 7 stylus, while the rest of lmay / Staedtler / wacom one are generally 3 gram IAF / 2% - 5% - 15%, Galaxy Tab S7 stylus is the 3G IAF 13-20% pressure percentage value.
In addition, the 0 gram IAF advertised by Apple pencil is not the real 0 gram IAF. Apple uses a water leaking pen mechanism. Apple pencil starts inking when it is about 0.5-1mm away from the screen and does not touch the screen, which makes it look like its IAF is very low. But this has side effects. It's easier for you to have unnecessary lines when writing or lifting your pen. The advantages and disadvantages depend on your artistic style
Low initial activation force is just one of many factors that produce good drawing performance. The other important feature is whether it can detect changes in pressure when applying minimal pressure and that is where Apple Pencil is good, and you can see that with quick strokes that start thinner, become thicker, then tapers smoothly as the pen lifts. There are pens with low IAF that can draw thin lines, thicker, but can't go back to becoming as thin. Active stylus will have no unnecessary lines because there is pen mode (strict palm rejection) where lines can only be made by the pen. There is no way to introduce stray strokes even if you want to. There are measurements, and then there's real world performance.
@@teohontech7141 You should try to buy a better EMR stylus, because the pressure sensor of the EMR pen is on the pen. For example, the HP zbook x2 stylus is the best wacom EMR pen with pressure sensor that Samsung can use, with performance close to that of wacom propen2. We have tested that under the default pressure curve in the clip studio paint program, the change control of the lightest pressure sensitivity of a 600 pixel pen g brush is significantly better than that of applepencil.
@@visualskills6656It's not about it being better. It's about it being good enough to leave mobile tablet ecosystems behind and without sacrificing a good art experience I've loved using my iPad for art, but that's been in spite of the operating system, not because of it. I actually can't stand ipadOS and the apple pencil/procreate is the only reason I sucked it up and dealt with it. Now that I can get a full Windows PC that will let me draw properly and run other software I could NEVER dream of running on an ipad or Android tablet, I'll happily sell my iPad and make a full switch over to Windows

Proud to have the Surface Pro 8 (: As a student, I have a tablet with a great pen to write notes in class, and at the same time a Windows laptop for any purpose I need. All this while I see other students carrying around both a laptop and an iPad / Android tablet. While my I5 processor is less powerful than the iPad Pro M1, warms up more and consumes more power, at least I can utilize it without any limitations on the part of the operating system. For me, preferring the Surface over the iPad Pro is like choosing an Audi car over a Maserati that is limited to 60 km / h.
I had bought the IPad Pro and It felt like a big iPhone. I was very disappointed so I retuned it and grabbed the surface pro 8 . You can do everything on it. I had a surface pro 4 and it lasted through college and it was great for my electrical engineering classes.
@@valmentube Same. I had my surface pro 4 for Mechanical Engineering classes. (but I still needed to get a laptop for CAD software and Matlab as it wasn't usuable on the surface pro; to slow and choppy. And I had the core i7 1TB Surface Pro 4. Unfortunately that core i7 is just so on paper. Not the same as a laptop processor.) I think I may be ready for an upgrade. But I'm waiting for the surface pro 9.

planning to sell my ipad pro 12.9 since the OS is a limiting factor. You can't replace laptop with it unlike surface pro which is literally a laptop & tablet.
Great review. Which one out of these 3 would you recommend for a 50+ artist who likes drawing sketches, portraits and scenery. I will really appreciate your guidance.
Thanks for the great video. I am not an artist, but use a pen for annotating and taking notes. I have Surface Pro 6 and my biggest problem with it has been from the beginning the battery life. Surface Pro 8 seems to be better, but still not good enough. I''m going to replace my Surface Pro 6 with Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 13 inch model which has also a fanless mode and therefore a longer battery life if needed. As it comes with the S Pen included and the keyboard while weighting less than the others with keyboard, I believe it to be the better option for me. I have also the S8 Ultra. It feels almost like a real computer. But mobile Office is simply not Desktop Office. Therefore, I will pass it to my daughter, although I love that device. And the iPad Pro ... well it is just an accessory and not a computer. It is certainly a good alternative for artists, but not for other use-cases.
I am so confused to buy between a galaxy tab S8 (any variant) vs Galaxy book 2 pro 360. As my laptop broke and I need new device for my university. Keeping 1 main thing in mind, I want to use it mainly for media consumption. When I tried Galaxy book 2 pro 360 at a store, it was getting really hot! Any suggestions?
The only problem with iPad is the pen to glass sounds! It sounds like its going to scratch and break? the Samsung dobt have that it glides and feels like a pen ? I want the iPad but that is what’s making me think Samsung? Is this an issue for u? Thank u for the review
Thank u im in love with Samsung rate now might get a Samsung for the price and when I get better at digital art get an iPad Pro next year or just keep saving I want to get anyway from the desk lol
Thank you so much for your excellent videos! Thanks to you, I know exactly what to buy, given my personal preferences and current equipment! Many thanks 🙏🏻!!!
Hi, Thanks for your good reviews. Which one of them you prefer for studying (watching videos, taking professional notes & react with PDF files) Thank you ❤
I love the iPad Pro M1. It’s so refreshing, simple, sleek, and super powerful. It’s a highly polished and capable device. If you find your workflow with it, it becomes so addictive and pleasant to use. I added a DAC Amp to mine and with the Apple Pencil, nothing comes close for my needs. Music production and digital illustrations.
Surface may look dull compared to ipad and samsung, but in reality it's the most versatile. I used surface pro 4 for almost 7 years now and managed to complete most of my study/office work using it including graphic design stuff. Then recently I got an ipad pro... feels like a bigger iphone with a good pen, that's it. I feel less productive using ipad compared to Surface Pro. I also bought a samsung tab s8 for my boss and helped set it up. Although it has Dex, I felt like it's the worst compared to the three due to the Android ecosystem and limited 'common productivity' apps.
Hi! Thank you for the thorough video. I am an illustrator usually using clip studio on desktop. I have a question regarding clip studio on galaxy s8 ultra, if I work on 4000x3000 ish pixel canvas 300dpi, will it lag if I have around 70-100 layers? (lag in terms of canvas panning and pen lag). I have viewed so many reviewer of tab s8 ultra, but almost no one mention how the performance on multi-layer high resolution clip studio file. Thank you !
I don't work on such high resolution files with multiple layers so I can't say much. If you have such a file, you can send to me for testing. My email is teohyc @ gmail . com
@@teohontech7141 Hi Mr.Teoh, I have sent you the email containing one of my typical working file. 5000x3600 300 dpi, multi layers. A video testing the tab s8 ultra on this file size will be very helpful for us. Thank you so much!
@@Philivix I've looked at the file. I would consider 38MB file size to be small. There are many layers but not that many. Anyway, I duplicated the folder with the character art 20 times. Had 10 layers visible on screen and navigation is still fluid, smooth.
@@teohontech7141 thank you so much for the test. For everyone else wondering how the performance on multi layer high resolution clip studio file, the result is satisfactory. Counted more than 1000 layers, still smooth to work on. Resolution is 5000x3600 300 DPI. Thank you!
@@Philivix The thing about that 1000 layers is, not all layers are visible and not all visual content is shown on the screen so that may not push the graphics processor to the max.
IPad Pro 12.9 Gen5 still my choice. I have almost 1 year and still no issues..😀 I think I am not wrong to choice.. And thanks to you teoh… almost buy surface 8. It will be problematic if I have screen flickering..
The flickering is certainly irritating but not a deal breaker for me yet as it only shows up under certain situations. I’ll wait till the 11th month before I send it for servicing which I think Microsoft will probably replace it with a new/refurbished unit. 😂
@blackbriarwolf ipad was just boring .screen much nicer and larger on ultra also has expandable memory also a free s pen ,Touch id and the big deal breaker is dex it beats the ipad in every category do I need to go on lol
Great comparison video. Funny how everyone gives their subjective opinion. The Surface is clearly better car it can also be a laptop, the iPad is clearly better cause it's the best tablet. Truth is they are all great devices with pros and cons and how good they are and what's best depends on what your priorities are... what other devices you have etc. I am glad I can afford to have them all and get the best of each
@@astephup It's not a straightforward answer, since they are not specced equally. The S8 ultra is the maxed out 16GB RAM version, while the surface is the 8GB and the 12.9 iPad pro is 4GB version. So as they stand I would keep the ultra, simply because it's the most expensive (to repurchase). Now suppose they all have 16GB RAM and 1TB like (that's the minimum to get a 12.9 M1 iPad pro with 16GB RAM), the iPad 12.9 and the Surface pro 8 would both cost around $2000 with the respective keyboards (the surface pro would be a bit more, but not too far) and the ultra would be 1400 (but with 512GB, there is no 1TB option). At this point the choice is between the pro 8 and the iPad pro. I would take the iPad pro simply because I have already several Windows devices (including surface book 3) with 16GB RAM and a desktop with 32GB while my other iPads are not as well specced. However, if that had to be my only device (not Windows / Macs) then I'll pick the surface pro because it can do it all, despite its shortcomings... As you see, you first need to align the specs and then take into account your other devices before you can give an answer....
I take notes on Surface Go 2. I used more Surface tablets in the past as well. All I can say is that because of their goal of becoming both a computer and a tablet, they are less of a tablet. They don't do it well. And because of their tablet form factor, they are less of a computer too in my opinion. They are also so heavy for some reason. And as someone who changed from using Android phones after 10 years to my first iPhone, I cannot suggest the Samsung I guess.
What the heck does you having used android phones for 10 years have to do with you not suggesting the Samsung? You haven't even used the Samsung Galaxy Tablet; what makes you qualified to give that suggestion? How the hell are making the suggestion to not get something that you haven't even used? The tablet has mostly positive reviews, so where is that even coming from? As some who has used android (specifically Samsung for over 10 years) AS WELL as iPads and ipods for several years AND the surface pro for the last 6 years. I can easily suggest the Samsung Ultra tablet over the Ipad. IOS although more stable will ALWAYS be limited; it is only more stable because it is more restricting. And although more powerful, you will never be able to utilize that power due to limitations. Plus the s pen feels better the write rather than feeling like you're with with a hard plastic material on glass surface. and it actually comes with the tablet.
Also,@@teohontech7141 . Should i get an iPad pro or S8 instead? Someone told me to just get ipad but i'm not really sure about Apple ecosystem while on the other side i want to get the best drawing experience. Is iPad pro and S8 have such a big difference drawing experience? I don't mind if i can use Procreate or not, because my main app is Infinite Painter now
@@rizki.adhipraja If you're just comparing the drawing experience, both are on par. iPad has the advantage of more graphic design and vector apps. Samsung advantage is more familiar file system, SD card reader, external display support. And since you use Infinite Painter, it doesn't matter because you can choose either. Those who use Procreate are locked in to iPad.
Hi Teoh, I have a question: what is better to take, ipad or tab s8 ultra? in tab s8 ultra i like the diagonal of the screen, for clip studio paint it will fit perfectly, but the pen on it is quite small, the grip will be narrow. And on the iPad, I like apple pencil, but the diagonal for clip studio will be a bit small. What to choose? I am an animator. (Procreate is also a good program, I just use clip studio paint on a PC)
Regards to the small S Pen, you can either buy a rubber grip for it, or you can get a different pen. E.g. Staedtler Noris Digital Jumbo, and use the S Pen as backup. www.parkablogs.com/es/content/review-staedtler-noris-digital-jumbo-stylus
Which one can be connected to another computer and be used as a input tablet? Which one has better sensitivity, detects better pressure and angle...? How do they compare with the best Wacom?
These are all battery powered and don't have to connect to any computer. Main advantage of Wacom is you can use it with desktop software and pen is slightly more accurate and sensitive compared to the pens that come with all these tablets. Ultimately, I recommend you choose based on the software you want to use.
Would you recommend the samsung s8 ultra for me? Looking for a big screen tablet as a laptop alternative since i have a beefy pc. I will also use it for media consumption and to formulate business ideas.
Thank you for the review man! I'm an Artist / 2D Game Artist too, and I'm still doing my research between Tablets vs a 'professional tablet' like Huion Kamvas / Wacom Cintiq. I'm leaning heavily towards tablets right now. Cintiq 16 with Touch is mad expensive - 2500CA$ (Canadian), and these tablets are half that price 1200-1400CA$. Cintiq requires a wall socket and USB-C, must be powered at all times, not standalone, requires a decently powerful machine to render the 4k monitor, if you have limited desk space it's too much of a hassle to use a mount / push your keyboard aside, can't have cozy art sessions like sitting on the couch / bed and drawing. Overall I think a Cintiq would make me draw less vs one of these tablets. As you mention, Samsung has windows live streaming, and can be connected to Windows and used with Photoshop! It uses WiFi, and no wires. The implementation is still rudimentary, so everyone mentions that a 15$ software called "Super Display" works much better and responsively, with very minimal lag. I love the display of the Samsung over the other two. The thin bezel looks so nice. I like widescreen too, since I make games for PC in 16:9, and as a plus, could also watch videos / anime without scaling issues. Lastly, I hear that Tab S9 / S9 Ultra will be revealed and ready for pre-order this month. Do your own research, but this could mean a better device, or the S8 Ultra going on clearance. Thank you for your great videos. My intuos broke recently, and you've really helped me become informed before buying anything.
Do you have a recommendation for a beginner child artist? Ive been debating between the basic ipad(gen 9) and surface go3. Including the price of pen theyre both about $450. So better than 1k+ since its for a child(preteen) and beginner. Also smaller tablet so easier to carry/hold
Probably the iPad because the touchscreen experience is better. Or see if you can find the Xiaomi Pad 5 with Xiaomi Smart Pen which is a much better tablet than the iPad 9.
Appreciate the reply! I happened to find your video of the ipad vs xiaomi after asking. I see spec wise that its clearly better but it seems you like the apple pencil a lot more. Could that possibly out weight the decision? For a younger beginner artist would the more realistic pencil possibly be more beneficial?
@@jackbigs2698 Apple Pencil is better, but in terms of value for money, I will still recommend Xiaomi. The overall value of the Xiaomi tablet outweigh the Apple Pencil's better performance. You can get the Xiaomi Pad 5 from AliExpress

Samsung tablet has more of a desktop ratio which is better for watching videos and landscape use, because unlike smartphones tablets are meant to be used as a desktop alternative with keyboard in landscape, the 8:5 aspect ration on the tab is the same as the mac book pro and it correlates in certain way besides aspect it also has the ugly notch hopefully the notch won't be their on the tab s9 ultra samsung was trying to avoid the notch and the only company that never went with an ugly notch on smartphones in 2017 and 2018 so right now them going with a notch weird, they needed to add in display camera I don't actually care on the tablet about getting camera upgrade because besides facetime and zoom meeting that camera isn't needed
It's a good tablet which is more versatile than iPad and Samsung due to Windows OS. But battery life is just 6+ hours. Intel i5 is alright for general use. Great deal will depend on the price you can find.
I personally have it, and i dont reccomend it at all for drawing even with the 2nd gen pen. Its just way behind samsung and ipad pen that ipad 1st gen pen was still better deal. I tried to get used to it for a few month and never got comfortable drawing using it at all The pen just wobble too much i can’t make proper line with it (its digital wobble, u still get wobble even when using ruler), the palm rejection keep getting in the way even after i turn on pen only input. It just good only for writing thats all.
Mine is very obviously a hardware defect. The flicker is most obvious when displaying gray background. Mine also has the issue where the bottom surface of the glass at the flicker area has a white brushed texture. Weird. If your flicker is very obvious, it's likely a hardware fault and should be under warranty. Many of the old Surface Pros I've tested have flicker problem. I am having the phobia that the new replacement device will come with this issue again. Wonder if Microsoft have any fix for it yet.
Still, apple pencil is the best experience for notes. Feels quite natural. Samsung Notes is the sencond one, very nice and sweet, but I have found some issues when writing in the borders of the screen, there is a drift. Then Windows tablets seem to be the best choice in general, but I could not test the microsoft pencil, and in other pretty recent laptops like lenovo yoga 7, the pencil experience on windows apps is not quite fine at all. It is great for most people, but I definitely don't enjoy using pencil on it. I enjoy using pencil on iPads and Samsung tablets but not in windows. Maybe I should try surface pro 8-9. Hello i'm an amateur manga artist. Right now i'm using wacom intuos and i want upgrade my set up between these three. Currently i'm using clip studio paint in Windows. So what do you think, which one is better i use ipad pro or surface pro? i like ipad pro because i watch so many review its good for drawing. And the other side, i dont use Mac, so is it gonna be a problem for me in the future? Thank you !
If you already have a computer, it doesn't make sense to get another computer (Surface Pro). So maybe iPad is better. iPad works well alone regardless of Mac or Windows. There's Clip Studio Paint on iPad as well.
It’s as clear as day that the m1 iPad Pro is superior in every way vs surface when it comes down to raw power. However, due to iPadOS holding the iPad back the power becomes all but useless.
If I am buying a tablet I would want the best and that is the iPad, and that can be easily bought with 20% off now in the UK. I need a tablet with a great keyboard as that is my focus and the Apple keyboard is the best by some way. I would never buy a Windows Tablet just for tablet use, and instead would get a good laptop to compliment my tablet choice to avoid compromises. So the SP8 is more for a workflow around laptop use and minimal tablet work. The Ultra is just too big for me, so comparing the Tab S8+ would be better and that is a solid device and if it had a great keyboard option (backlit and not floppy) would run the iPad close. Samsung needs to maybe make a bit of effort there, even though it took Apple sometime to work it out, Samsung should be better in 2022. But that is my subjective needs and others may priorities other factors. Thanks!
What I hate about iPad keyboard is how chunky it is. iPad loses all thickness and weight advantages compared to SP8 at that point, considering the keyboard is almost as thick and heavy as SP8 itself - it becomes thicker than Macbook Air with the keyboard, which is kinda ridiculous for a tablet that I need to carry around quite often. Which tablet is the "best" really depends on what you expect to do with the device, iPad is great for drawing and general media consumption surely. I personally need a tablet that can do much more than draw though; develop games for Android, iOS and iPadOS on Unity and/or Unreal Engine, full Adobe software suite, Davinci Resolve for occasional video editing (beats Premiere Rush 100-0!) Asperite for pixel art, Audacity for sound edits, etc. So the best tablet to me is easily SP8, and it can also replace my old Macbook Pro, Samsung Tablet and even desktop PC and gaming consoles with eGPU attatched. It offers crazy versatility that iPad lacks and is really a 4-in-1 device for me.
@@PhazonBlaxor Yes, I agree with all you said, it is very subjective, and for me, a good keyboard is essential and although it adds weight and thickness, that is a small price to pay for a better typing experience.
@@andyH_England Totally agree. If you prefer the typic experience on the iPad keyboard and can do away with iPad itself, it's an amazing device. I personally prefer the keyboard on SP8 though, it feels really good to type on. Just not a huge fan of the trackpad, I'm way too used to the trackpad on MB Pro and as we all know Apple makes the best trackpads hands down.
The iPad OS is too restricting to be anywhere close to the best tablet. That is a myth. It isn't even the best at multitasking yet. The other two tablet is by far better at that. The iPad is too expensive to not to at least excel at that.
@@andyH_England Adding weight defeats the purpose of it being a portable device. The keyboard for the Surface pro works great, is back lite, has responsive tough pad and is most importantly light weight. To have something thin and lightweight it is going to be more flexible/flimsy. That is just common sense.
As much as I absolutely love the aspect ratio and size of my S8 Ultra, the iPad just wins in every other aspect. Apple Pencil, Apps, Power, Smoothness, Display, etc.
Which is better if I just started artwork ? An don't have Mac i had hp laptop and a Android phone which is good for me ° iPad °mi pad 5 ° Samsung S7 ° surface pro ° graphic tablet

Highly recommend Teoh's videos where he is using Samsung Tab S7 FE with Concepts, that is brutally awesome. Definitely, IPad with Concepts would be excellent, too, but a hell lot more expensive.
If you already have an HP laptop (or whatever the laptop) , you can just buy a Wacom in the new cheap range called "One By Wacom" (around 70 euros, so, a bit more in dollars). BUT... be very sure to purchase the MEDIUM (M) size. With the Small it's terrible in all the tablets. Is pretty good enough for people starting, and better than many cheap alternatives. Use it with the HP and this way you train hand-screen coordination. If you can, purchase PaintTool SAI 2, (around 55 euros) because that app will allow you to work in big canvases and large brushes even in very low end laptops. This means the experience painting is going to be fluid no matter what, in that app. And that is very important. Another one, a bit more complex and not as incredibly good in optimizing for hardware (but still very good on laptops) is Clip Studio Paint (also around 50 bucks). If can't purchase any app (but I really recommend it) you can then just use free apps. Among those I mostly recommend Krita. It might go slower in your laptop, but if you really really really can't buy an app, then go with it. Another tablet that could work for you, but is a bit more expensive, is the Wacom Intuos Medium(M). Yes, after defending the alternatives for years, I've gone back to recommend Wacom no matter what. Simply put, the pen control and accuracy is that much better. But you have a not too terrible option in XP-Pen Deco Pro MEDIUM (again, don't pick the SMALL model). Training with a classic tablet will make you more adaptable if get contracted by a company which does not use Display-tablets (like Cintiq). But if you try and there's no way for you to draw in a classic (this is more related to patience during years, as IMO everybody can get used to it) then you can go to a cheap display tablet. The Wacom Cintiq (non pro) 16" is what I would recommend. The 22" would be my best advice, but then you go to a 1000 euros purchase, and surely that's to much for someone starting. The 16 model is at an ok price. For a cheaper model, but never smaller than 16 inches screen, you could buy a XP-Pen of 16 inches, the smaller model they might be selling. Again, strongly recommend Wacom, much better. IMO, the greatest value here would be using your HP laptop + "One By Wacom" (not "The One", which is a 13" display tablet) MEDIUM + PaintTool SAI 2. If you can afford it, the top best would be Your laptop + Wacom Intuos (non pro) MEDIUM (M) + PaintTool SAI 2. The laptop option has tremendous advantages as can coordinate with very high end pro software, have more compatibility with professional software in general. Can truly calibrate the screen colors later on, etc. The one thing that is not great at all, is pretty bad, is that laptops tend to have terrible screens. Not the case with Apple laptops, and also, some modern laptops do support 100% sRGB, If it says so in your laptop specs, then you are lucky! and quite setup. Much later on, after some years of basic art training, you might want to connect the laptop to a half decent desktop monitor, very easy by laptops HDMI, USB-C or Display ports, a monitor that you can then calibrate its color by hardware. But as that calibration is a science on its own, typically just having a monitor that supports "100%" sRGB (and I recommend that you set the "sRGB mode" in the on screen menu; kind of is a trick for those not knowing how to calibrate a monitor, to have at least some decent color to work with). For drawing on the go, I echo what others say : Samsung Galaxy tab S7 *FE* is the best value. A big screen and big surface area are much more important than people think. The colors accuracy situation is best out of the box in the iPad Pro, but it is a tad expensive. Samsung tablets... you do need to set the colors in settings in the "natural" setting, but that's just about it, can't do a lot more, but serves very well for someone learning and even doing commissions. Indeed, the Samsung S7 FE is surely gonna have a better screen than your laptop. Altho some laptops form last 5 years DO have amazing screens. In Android, I can recommend tools like Infinite Paint, Ibis Paint, Artflow, Medibang and Art Rage. Not in this particular order. Indeed, Art rage is probably the most professional of them. Realize that you only need to be comfy with one of them, so I list them all so that you can try and see which fits better your preference. If you hadn't a laptop already, I'd very much would recommend Surface Studio pro 8 (not the 7. The pen is WAY better, they fixed everything in 8). With the pen and keyboard , that is. So, yep, some conclusions : Laptop + "One by Wacom" Medium + PaintTool SAI 2 Samsung S7 FE if it really really has to be a tablet (I can only see that if portability requires a very light thing). Also if you need to paint "over the line", just like in traditional paper, and don't want to train with a classic digital tablet (which I recommend). If money (for this quantity) wasn't an issue, I recommend having BOTH solutions. The first for bigger and serious projects, the second as a very good solution on the go (I have it, btw). The laptop solution is by very far the cheapest, as u already have a laptop. Also, the one you can scale to more serious work later on. Specially if at home you connect the laptop to a better monitor (with better color accuracy than most laptops, with some brilliant exceptions) , than you already have your desktop studio. And still, the laptop and a medium-size Wacom tablet is still sth that fits on a side bag or back pack; it's pretty portable. Working long sessions, for long hours, it is much better a laptop (indeed, for that best is a full desktop PC) + a decent 22-24 inches monitor. You will draw much better and better pose. Some people even just purchase an extra keyboard and mouse , but desktop ones, and hook the laptop with them and a desktop monitor. Then, the experience is same than with a desktop. If you tell me here what exact model is your HP, I can easily tell you how good is its screen for drawing (as if it's already 100% or 90% sRGB then it's WAY good to go for someone starting, Even if it's the crappy 45% sRGB, to learn how to paint and draw, you can be fine). Also to tell you which software it can run. Unless the laptop is very recent and large amount of RAM, Photoshop 2022 might run slow in most mainstream laptops. But PaintTool SAI 2 works great even in very old laptops and PCs. Clip Studio will work very fine (just not is super old laptops like SAI does), as well. You young people have now a lot of options that were impossible in my time, hehe. For digital art. As remember: to paint on a large paper or canvas with acrylic paint (special for fine art, not regular wall paint, lol) is way cheaper (oils are more expensive and difficult to handle, even if it's the best technique), or gouache paints if that's easier for you... and trains you the same or more. And does not have to be one thing or the other (traditional vs digital), you can do both. There's a ton to learn with only cheap paper and any pencil, before you can say "hey, if I can't paint digital, I can't do art". A lot of the basic stuff can be trained and mastered with only a pencil and paper. Some pros I know only touch the PC to scan (and do some levels or hue fast corrections in Photoshop or Affinity Photo) their outstanding colorful illustrations made fully in acrylics or oil paints. So, there's that. :) I hope it helps.
S7 is a really good tablet which has been out for 1.5 years so you may be able to get that at good price now. Xiaomi Pad 5 is the best value tablet of 2021 and probably 2022.
Wow. You have SP4. I’ve never considered SP until the SP8 because the old pen always has diagonal line jitter/wobble
Isn't there something like Procreate for the Surface Pro? At least where you can rotate the caneva?
Great comparison. The ultra is amazing paired with clip studio paint. Hope more manufacturers start making larger size tablets
Digital art on tablets is blowing up so I think they will. I see more and more art hobbyists and professionals using tablets. So they'll definitely meet the raising demand and make more apps to accommodate.
Larger? My god mate this is already like carrying a laptop itself

You're right that windows isn't ideal for a tablet experience, but you only use it as a tablet when using programs that do work for tablet usage, such as drawing apps.

out of all the stuff i was looking through trying to figure out more about each of these.....this has been the single most helpful video to help me decide.....
The lower the percentage, the greater the pressure change of the drawn line)
I have tested the wacom UD EMR technology pen with many enthusiasts.
@马永军
Thanks for the recommendation.
I bought the pen and do find it much better compare to wacom one and s pens for drawing.

As a student, I have a tablet with a great pen to write notes in class, and at the same time a Windows laptop for any purpose I need.

Great one and happy to have an S8 Ultra coming soon!
Nice video! Question, how do they compare to Wacom Intuos Pro + high end laptop?
The only problem with iPad is the pen to glass sounds! It sounds like its going to scratch and break? the Samsung dobt have that it glides and feels like a pen ? I want the iPad but that is what’s making me think Samsung? Is this an issue for u? Thank u for the review

Hi,
Thanks for your good reviews.
Which one of them you prefer for studying (watching videos, taking professional notes & react with PDF files)
Thank you ❤
I love the iPad Pro M1.
Thank you for good reviews. Which one has a better writing experience. I want a paper fill and not a glass feel. Many thanks
How about using the Samsung Tab S8 as an external drawing monitor on a windows system? Is that possible? If so, does it work well?
It works. There will be slightly more lag than drawing on the tablet.
Use Super Display and then connect it with usb C cable, no latency or lag

The flickering is certainly irritating but not a deal breaker for me yet as it only shows up under certain situations. I’ll wait till the 11th month before I send it for servicing which I think Microsoft will probably replace it with a new/refurbished unit. 😂
I sold my 5th gen ipad to get ultra and never looked back
@blackbriarwolf ipad was just boring .screen much nicer and larger on ultra also has expandable memory also a free s pen ,Touch id and the big deal breaker is dex it beats the ipad in every category do I need to go on lol
I am glad I can afford to have them all and get the best of each
If someone broke two of the tablets but you get to choose the two that get broken. Which tablet are you keeping?
Thanks for your opinion 😎
I take notes on Surface Go 2. I used more Surface tablets in the past as well. All I can say is that because of their goal of becoming both a computer and a tablet, they are less of a tablet. They don't do it well. And because of their tablet form factor, they are less of a computer too in my opinion. They are also so heavy for some reason. And as someone who changed from using Android phones after 10 years to my first iPhone, I cannot suggest the Samsung I guess.
what apps do you use to take notes?
@@romantia8327 only Onenota. And for annotations on pdf, Drawboard.

It's a good tablet which is more versatile than iPad and Samsung due to Windows OS. But battery life is just 6+ hours. Intel i5 is alright for general use. Great deal will depend on the price you can find.
Do you recommend Huawei matepad 11 ? I don't care about google apps.
My brother has it, the display is very good, and the price is for everyone's pocket, but I don't recommend it for drawing
@@Im-building-stuff
Why you don't recommend it for drawing ?
@@medoultragamer6304 maybe because the pen technology
@@ThagVictor
It have a few reviews but from what i saw the 2nd gen pen is very good and better than 1st gen
I personally have it, and i dont reccomend it at all for drawing even with the 2nd gen pen. Its just way behind samsung and ipad pen that ipad 1st gen pen was still better deal. I tried to get used to it for a few month and never got comfortable drawing using it at all
The pen just wobble too much i can’t make proper line with it (its digital wobble, u still get wobble even when using ruler), the palm rejection keep getting in the way even after i turn on pen only input. It just good only for writing thats all.
Does taking ipad pro for procreate worth it? Please answer me i'm having a delimma😭
Did u resolve your surface pro 8 flickering screen problem?
I’m also facing this flickering issue and it’s irritating 😂
Mine is very obviously a hardware defect. The flicker is most obvious when displaying gray background. Mine also has the issue where the bottom surface of the glass at the flicker area has a white brushed texture. Weird. If your flicker is very obvious, it's likely a hardware fault and should be under warranty. Many of the old Surface Pros I've tested have flicker problem. You can also search Reddit for Surface Pro flicker problem
@@teohontech7141 yes exactly same like my flickering issues on the left side of screen and it is very obvious especially in dark background. I have just requested for standard exchange today. As this is my first surface pro device, the screen flicker is indeed irritating while using the tablet. Yes, I have done some search and notice it is quite common problem among surface pro series. I am having the phobia that the new replacement device will come with this issue again. Wonder if Microsoft have any fix for it yet.
Are the directories bugs of the ipad as widespread as the flickering problem of the Surface Pro?
It is a pitty there is no device for everything when they have the power and hardware to do it. Ultimately, yuo end up buying an iPad just to use it for handwritten notes and so. 1000$ for a digital paper sheet...
In my opinion the samsung pencil is far superior
@@aussiegruber86 After a long time with pros and cons (not only w.r.t. the pencil but tablets iPad/Samsung Galaxy and apps) I agree with you. I sold iPad Pro 2022 since it was almost the same as the iPad Pro 2017 I had before...and now I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab s8+ with Samsung Notes which is superb in general (superior screen in all terms, design and pencil experience of Samsung Notes vs Apple Notes).

There's Clip Studio Paint on iPad as well.
really good
surface = ulimited software easy choice
Does it run procreate?
Procreate is iPad only
hem rog zflow or xflow
Surface= $2.000 for 5 hours of baterry
Not at all, you don't the Play Store, and the Microsoft App store is super limited.
you're wrong, the surface pro 8 has full desk drawing (more features) apps and more powerful sculpting apps like z-brush, mudbox, etc.
What are some good full desk drawing apps on the Surface Pro 8?

It’s as clear as day that the m1 iPad Pro is superior in every way vs surface when it comes down to raw power.
However, due to iPadOS holding the iPad back the power becomes all but useless.
Doesn’t matter if it’s a M1000 chip inside the iPad Pro
You sound suspiciously similar to Golden Reviewer.. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

If you just start doing Digital artwork,, maybe you should get Samsung s7 or Surface Pro.
Just decide according by your budget.
The Ipad is good to be honest, but because your smartphone is android so it doesn't fit into the Apple ecosystem
hope it helps🙌🏼😇
So, yep, some conclusions :
Laptop + "One by Wacom" Medium + PaintTool SAI 2
Samsung S7 FE if it really really has to be a tablet (I can only see that if portability requires a very light thing).
I hope it helps.
S7 is a really good tablet which has been out for 1.5 years so you may be able to get that at good price now. Xiaomi Pad 5 is the best value tablet of 2021 and probably 2022.
