I wanted to get the samsung cause of the screen but had to go with the surface pro 9 because of that Pulse width modulation its so damn stupid and i wish everytime they bring it out that they would get rid of that crap its kills 50% of the market for them cause apparently a huge number of poeple have issues with PWM.

Honestly even 8 months later still incredibly informative and helpful information condensed down to 20 minutes. At the end of the day had to go with Surface Pro 9 due to it running the desktop versions of apps I like to use, I do manage to scrape more battery life out of it due to only needing to push it to better performance for brief periods but change it right back to battery saver mode. If that helps anyone more then happy to help out 🤙🏼

Could you provide some more tipps about battery life? I found your comment very helpfull and i was wondering if you would have any further tipps on how to save more battery life? I noticed that my battery dropped for 30% during an one hour MS Teams meeting. I love my surface pro 9 it is beautiful and i wouldn´t like to return it back but this is obviously a huge manco for me or users having my use case.

Also try to connect your ipad to any external monitor ( inc. studio display😅 ) and tell me what you gonna see ? Unfotunatly iPad leaves gaps to the left and right of the screen … second issue If you want to use an external hdd that is not ntfs system, the ipad will still cause problems here… but samsung has been doing this since 2014 … Having portable operating systems won't make it perfect, and it won't make you uncle etc… just last year, the ipad was able to adapt the mouse to its own device properly… this was a topic criticized by users … do you think they were all uncle etc ?? 😂 sorry but I had to criticize your review video more than devices 🥸

Excellent review. I have both a 12.9 inch iPad pro and the ultra. I much prefer the ultra because I use a Galaxy smartphone and a windows pc. As you said it's an ecosystem preference that is the deciding factor. Both tablets are great.

      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Steve! Thanks for watching and joining the chat. Appreciate your insights, that’s pretty much how I feel too. This whole ecosystem lock in has been bad for end users who just need the best device for each specific use case. It shouldn’t matter if I want to use a Mac laptop and an android phone, they should play nice together so I’m free to choose but they don’t do it leads to compromises.
Might make money in the short run but in the long run, I think people will grow tired of it and something will change.

If you need a true desktop experience then surface is the best option, but…. If your needs are light as a desktop and the tablet usage is primary, you’ll probably find the iPad stronger in part due to the vast number of apps.

I have a surface book 2 and just got a laptop 5. I also have a galaxy tab s8+, s22ultra, galaxy watch 4 and galaxy buds live. I love the galaxy wearables app. I can connect my watch and buds super easy to either my phone or tab. The samsung dex interface is very cool. Sorta gives a windows desktop type feel. Being that I love microsoft, Dex is awesome to me. I can also connect a bluetooth mouse to the tab. The surface book is amazing. The laptop 5 is as well. i like how these both interconnect well with my xbox as well.

My situation is not too different...
Samsung as of late has taken a leap in making better products.
I do feel they messed up with the sizing of the tablets. Holding an ipad feels so natural...a "go to" size (not much of a reason to buy because of this) Samsung S8 should have had sizing more like ipad and the S8 was also treated as an unwanted child...shame on Samsung for that.

I choose the Surface Pro 8 i7, it's the best 2 in 1 on the market
I think the Surface Pros are actually a showcase for Microsoft to show other manufacturers how a Windows 2 in 1 should be, but since then none have really gotten the message.
And I think that's what prevents this format from being what it should really be, since developers have no real interest in it because of the lack of serious manufacturers in the segment.

Just subbed cause of this great video where its actually explained clear without beating around the bush like other youtubers lol🤣
I would mention the software updates for the long haul is the difference cause apple looks after their customers for years with updates on any bugs etc, the surface pro ages horribly from experience whether it be hardware or software. Samsung looks really good especially that 2nd external display which can be hooked up instantaneous but just some apps just feels and looks crap like twitter, weather and the file app is a mess and not the greatest selections on playstore as you do feel its a massive samsung phone at times eh😅
iPad, god the gestures and going through apps is just snappy like you mentioned and you feel work can be safely done.
Students who need to annotate lecture and study can use a collection of goodnotes/notability/one note and lumafusion which are optimized for the apple pencil aswell so thats a clear win tbh

    Being overly honest:
in relation to the iPad pro 12.9 m2 and the galaxy tab s8 ultra,
On which tablet do video games look more spectacular?
I don't mean how fluid these run or even the "bigger screen" feel... but the graphics...
Let me explain: despite the fact that both are capable of running all video games in maximum graphics... where there is a difference is in the way in which the colors of the games are represented on their screens... because they are of one side mini LED vs super Amoled...

I prefer the Surface. You got a real computer with windows and all of its advantages and you get a great tablet too. I did not have any issues using it as a tablet, by the way, and that's mostly how I use it.
The Samsung is cool but the 16:9 format and Android OS makes it less interesting than the Surface though that depends a lot on how you use it. I do a lot of reading, lots of comic books and for that Surface and iPad are the best due to the screen format where wider is better than taller.
    3 great devices nonetheless.

      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

You know it’s so weird I thought the Samsungs were 16:9 too after holding one and using it against other devices but they’re genuinely 16:10. It’s just a big jump in width from 16:10 to 3:2 that the iPad and Surface look soooooo much bigger 😱

@@mikedropstech That's good to hear, I still prefer 4:3 or 3:2 but being a 14'' device it shouldn't be a problem, 16:10 is pretty good and it's a big tablet, biggest I've heard of so far.

From a Pro perspective I want access to all my Pro apps and these tend to be desktop apps even though I'm a Mac user the surface is the winner for me (despite being a little small and underpowered). From a consumer POV any of the two tablets are fine, but no good for getting any real work done unless you are an illustrator or note taker or edit photos on the fly in Lightroom.
In a perfect world for a pro with a pro labeled device, an iPad with a 14"+ screen and the option to dual boot into Mac OS would be a dream come true. I mean why not? It has and excellent pencil for a pointing device if you encounter small UI elements and apple silicon is just begging for some actual CPU/GPU use with Mac OS rather than being crippled in iPadOS.
My old iPad Pro is nothing more than a pricey consumer device that sees a few strokes in pro create due to the un professional uninspiring lack of mainstream apps with a large phone like feel I get from it, I would happily say that the Pro label is no more than marketed hype. I guess none of them are for me just yet unless I want to play around with a few sketches and watch TH-cam.

    Excellent video...i just subscribed.
My dilemma...i have a surface pro 9 (i can return it) and a samsung S22 Ulra phone. I would like a tablet that will be my "go to" quick & easy device. The S8 Ultra is too large to be a "go to" device, so is the S8+...the S8 is closest to a "go to" size of the 3 samsung tablets...they are all awkward due to the proportion (i think 16:9) samsung uses.
I was at the Apple store several times and today i attended 3 classes on ipad.
    I am very confused...
I will add...i was given a 5th generation ipad...and I still have my old surface pro 8. It is full to the brim..i need to clear stufg out and see if it still wants to work...it is showing signs of old age.
I am confused and hope someone reads my thread here and can put me on the right track.

Hey Allen, thanks for watching, much appreciated! As for your choices, I hear what you're saying. The 16:10 ratio on the Samsung tablets DOES feel like 16:9 but it's actually 16:10. I agree it's not enough and 3:2 is perfect for vertical tablet use. BUT, after using my Tab Ultra for months, I've come to love the extra width of the 16:10 in widescreen format (which I use for content and work with a keyboard occasionally). It really depends on how you're using it as to which ratio works best.
I agree the SP9 isn't ideal as a tablet first device, but if you can live with it's quirks, it truly is the best 'all round' device if you have to do any kind of meaningful work. For me, given your Samsung phone, I'd try to stay away from the iPads because I've always found too many irritations in workflow when trying to pair Apple and non Apple devices (photos never sync right, messaging etc.). You may find the S8+ works for you after using it for a while. Those 11" tablets get mighty small real quick once you start using them on a regular basis :).

it seems that the Surface Pro 8 has better battery life then the newer 9, so on that... ow and that one has a headphone jack still...
And.... seems that Samsung comes with a newer S9 version line, soon, in 2023.
I'm still not know what I would want. I have an old S4 tablet which, in a sense , I don't use that much... and for hard photo/video stuff, i have a beavy laptop. The only thing that would nudge me to a Surface Pro, would be that it has more uses for office work, where a laptop is a bit to 'heavy' to take along... but still can use all Microsoft software, like Office and such.
I do like the 15'' inch screen of the S8 Ultra, also, not mentioned, that you can use it as a second screen for laptops

Its humongous screen plus the sound that it produces is very much the most enhanced! Of course, the Surface Pro 9 with Windows is the most powerful user interface due to a desktop prioritized software. The iPad is overall the best in my personal opinion just because of how powerful it truly is! The Ultra is essentially a movie theater in a lot of ways. Loved my iPad Pro, but having bought a Tab S8 Ultra, I gave my iPad Pro to my son because, ultimately, I can do more of what I need to do with the Tab S8 Ultra. You didn't go into software here, and I get why, but for me, DeX really narrows the gap between something like the Surface and a tablet. Stage Manager isn't even DeX Light as it currently stands.
Just one other point on ecosystems - I buy a lot of digital content, but I will *never* buy any from Apple, because it is tied to their ecosystem. For my particular workflow, which is using desktop productivity apps, VPNs, and remote desktops (again a niche workflow), the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is significantly better at it than my iPad Pro was, and if I look at the more mainstream workflows for the average tablet user (media consumption, internet access etc), I'd say the Tab S8 Ultra and the iPad Pro are pretty much on a par.

There are times I'm trying to do something on my ipad and I think, this is actually easier on my iphone. I cannot see a good case scenario for using a tablet for anything other than watching a movie... even then, watching on a laptop is just as enjoyable. With a laptop you also don't need any of those. Also, one thing which is not addressed when comparing laptops to tablets, when you are laying in bed and want to watch a movie or youtube, the tablet stands don't let you position the screen 90 degrees or or less.
