  • Using Saniderm OR any other second skin is a great method for the aftercare & healing of a new tattoo. BUT WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO AFRER THE 24H MARK!? Do you continue to LEAVE IT ON for the whole week and have it build up with fluid? OR do you change it after 24 hours, clean the new tattoo area and then reapply a new sheet of second skin? Well i got the answer! Because in this video I have a representative here from Saniderm (one of the top brands in second skins) to better help inform you on this topic and answer this question on whether to leave it on or take it off.

    This quick vid was actually really informative. Knowing the information Alicia shares with us, it helps so much cos we then have the knowledge to make decisions. Doing what you're told is easy, if your aftercare/heal goes perfectly. But if not, with this info, I'm so much better placed to make the decisions that are gonna aid my ink rather than hinder it. With all the money, pain and time spent on these pieces of art, why not treat them like they're the Mona Lisa. Thank you so much Alicia & @JustINKD

    I have full color sleeves and a full color chest tattoo. I always use Saniderm. It’s worked perfectly for me. I leave it on for 4 days (regardless if there is some fluid build up) max. One thing I noticed is that y’all are crazy. 😂 Never, ever remove Saniderm unless you’re in the shower with running water. Otherwise, it can be painful to remove while dry. Do yourselves a favor and remove it while in the shower.

    Thanks for the video Justin. It’ll help a lot of people. I did 5 days straight for my first tattoo even with the buildup. That’s what my artist recommended when she gave me DermShield. It healed great. No bad smell from the plasma after the 5 days at all. Only downside-it was just very annoying to peel off even when in the shower to help loosen the adhesive. Then I did the usual wash and lotion during the peeling stage and it looked brilliant after the peeling.

      @slethex8243 I'd go off what your artist told you, but I think the sweet spot is 4-6 days I'd say.
      @odcoordinator1780 So I took off the stuff and the way I did it actually worked, you basically start from the bottom to get a corner up, then you'll pull down which seems counter intuitive but it works, continue pulling down close to the skin if that makes sense and you'll see the plastic lifting up on its own, go slowly. Once all off, you can use coconut oil to take off the rest of the adhesive off, after wash the area with warm water and antibacterial soap. May need to do this with the coconut oil two times to get all the adhesive off =) but worked. Then you do your usual after care.

    I use two method: 1) 7 days straight if there's no fluid at all 2) 24 hours+ 6 days if there's fluid. I leave the second sheet 6 days even if there's a small amount of plasma. Perfect healing without any irritation. I have a really slow healing process and very sensitive skin so applying and removing second skin multiple times it's not indicated.

When the tattoo is done, I go so fast to home I can, then I go to the shower and put water on it, then I give 2-3 days without anything so the tattoo can breathe and then I put grease to the tattoo (depends how often it will dry). I don't know is this the best way, but every tattoo I have (if I remember right I have +30).
    And second quest (sorry if this too personal, but I have think about so many time that what is the thing on your head). If someone have asked it earlier, I haven't seen the video.

    I have realized after watching a lot of different videos here on TH-cam and hearing what other people have done, that the tattoo artist here in Norway have a little different outlook on second skin that they do in for example the US. I just got a tattoo today and was told to leave it on for 3 hours before taking it off and cleaning it, and not applying another second skin after. This is what I have been told at other tattoo shops as well. The reason they have given me is that the healing will happen easier when you let your tattoo breathe without the layer on top. I have no idea why the opinions are so different, but I always listen to my artist and it has always worked out for me ;)

I am however curious about trying Saniderm (or Tegaderm as it's called in my country), but it's quite hard and scary for me to "disregard" my tattoo artists advice and do my own thing 😝

    The two tattoos I got and used saniderm were a different style than I normally get so it had a lot less ink. It wasn't super saturated or layered. So mine didn't fill up with fluid at all. My artist did recommend I take it off after 48 hours, but I think I may wait a bit longer on my most recent one (2 days ago). it was pretty painful coming off my first time using saniderm, if I had waited maybe 5 days instead of 2-3 it may not have hurt as bad.

    My dad is getting me a chest piece for my 18 birthday in January, I’ve been watching all your videos to prepare. I had a problem with substance abuse and depression from about the time I was 14, and I can proudly say I have been sober since March. I want to get a realism piece of a Biblically accurate angel (it looks like a creature with like 8 wings and several eyeballs everywhere). Since it’s kind of scary and ugly looking, it’s representing my battle with drugs. Even though what I have done and what I’ve been through may have been ugly and scary at times, I can still use it for good since angels do good works for God. I have been encouraging kids at my school to go sober with me and I have been able to reach some kids because of our similar stories. It’s a lot different hearing a message from someone who has been in the same position as you. I’m so pumped for my first tattoo I am literally counting down the days :)

No tenderness or itchy and it’s healing nicely and it’s starting to flake as expected. I lap swim so I applied saniderm and got in the pool (day 9). Just started my sleeve and got my whole upper arm done and am using saniderm. Was first applied by my artist after the session and he said I should keep it on for 4-5 days. After day 2, it was barely hanging on. Loose edges, a little bit of fluid, and a few of the pieces even came off. So on day 3 I removed it, washed it, pat dry with paper towel, and put a new layer on. After a day, there’s no fluid at all, it’s sticking well, so plan to keep it on for around 3 days.
    I’m assuming once I reach the itchy/peeling healing stage, I should remove and leave it off, don’t cover it? However, my job requires me to wear a nice, long sleeve shirt all day. I don’t want the shirt to damage the tattoo, but I also don’t want the tattoo to ruin my shirts.
    What should I do?

      I know I’m late to this but for future reference, think about this. If any fluids are leaking out of your bandage, that means the seal is not tight any more. If fluids get out, bacteria can get in and you will be doing more harm than good at that point with the bandage trapping that in there. So if it starts leaking or peeling like you said just take it off under running water, wash lightly with antibacterial fragrance free soap like dial or dove sensitive skin, let air dry completely and then reapply a fresh saniderm. Hope this helps!

    I just got a new tattoo about a week and a half ago and my artist used Saniderm. First time using it, prior to that we’d use cling wrap and traditional aftercare. I hated Saniderm!! It made my skin breakout where the bandage edges were, and I had a horrible time getting the adhesive off. It literally all just came off finally this evening and that was 6 days ago. Also when I looked up advice online on how to remove Saniderm residue, there was so much conflicting information about different oils/products to use. Luckily I saw a Reddit thread where a tattoo artist commented and said just let it be. I have no interest in using Saniderm again.

    • @justinkd
      @justinkd  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It has been reported by several people to me that the breaking out near the edges happens more often than you’d expect but also the tattooed area is always usually fine so it’s nothing serious to worry about. (Depending on how bad the breakout is) as for you removing it, that’s just something you did wrong & a common first timer mistake. It comes off super easy when doing it the way described in the video & as for the leftover adhesive, you’re right there isn’t much information on that and a lot of conflicting information. And that’s why I’ve already talked with saniderm and have gotten a response from them on what to do. (Video will be out soon) I’m sorry your first time using it wasn’t great… but believe me (as I’m literally using it right now) it’s a great product to use when it works with you and not against

    It is my case, I didn't really know what to do so I let the plastic film on 4 hours like my artist asked, then I cleaned it and put the second skin on that I let there 24h before removing and letting heal traditionally afterwards (after that time the skin is dry so I don't care that much about protecting it or my clothing/bedsheets)

    Beware of possible reaction: I've been fortunate not to be an allergy sufferer or one who ever has skin reactions to lotions, potions, bandaids, or other contact sources. Which is why I was quite surprised when I recently had a Saniderm patch applied to a fresh tattoo. The tattoo is located on the outside upper arm and is of moderate size --- not a half-sleeve or anything that elaborate -- which was then covered by the artist with a rectangular, perfectly-sized cut of Sanidern. Was directed to leave it on, undisturbed, for 3 days, which I did. (Different sources, including Saniderm itself, say different things about how long the first application is to be kept in place.) After following directions and removing it in a warm shower three full days after application, I noticed almost immediately what looked like a rash or 'burn' that covered the exact rectangular area on which the Saniderm patch had been positioned prior to removal. You could easily see the outline of the patch borders. It turned out to be much more like a "sun burn" than a rash. My skin does not easily sunburn and is not particularly sensitive. In any event, it took three weeks to almost completely disappear. Still has a bit left to go, perhaps another week, but basically the 'burn' no longer really noticeable. The actual tattoo was never problematic -- it healed beautifully with the daily assistance of Hustle Butter (my long-time go to), so it was just the 'reaction' to the Saniderm adhesive that concerned me. Had it taken only a few days to disappear, I wouldn't be writing this. Indeed, several online posts indicated a few days and the skin irritation is gone. Not the case at all, and at times I was praying that the burn-like appearance was not permanent. Sometimes we fear the worst, even if irrationally. Should there be a next tattoo (to add to the current five), I will be certain the artist is told of my experience with Saniderm so that an alternative is used as with my earlier tattoos. It's a shame since I'm a believer in the healing and prophylactic (not that kind of prophylactic) benefits of Saniderm. I'd just rather avoid the same kind of seemingly long-lasting reaction knowing that it will probably happen again. Curious how many others here have had or know of similar experiences with Saniderm, and how it was dealt with.

    • @inb4230
      @inb4230 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      your artist should have directed you to peel the edges back, unfortunately that's pretty common and well known in the industry. It's still a great product, one just has to use common sense and ESPECIALLY dont do like we see in this video, applying it without gloves , the artist probably changed gloves several times during the tattoo and at the end decided to put bacteria all over it and enclosing it with a film .we have to remember, heat and humidity is the perfect recipe for bacterial growth, I always put a new pair on for applying the film, and give my clients an extra sheet. If it seeps too much, or if you rip it even a tiny bit (like he did in the video!) remove it immediately, clean, reapply. Never had any issue with a tattoo besides the "burn" you mentioned when it came on the market, 100% the best way to heal a tattoo, you can shower normally, friction with clothing is fine, no destroyed bed sheets..

    Got told to wrap mine in a towel for the first night both times (2 day piece), got it in saniderm for 6 days now and under a long sleeved top.
    Using butterluxe ointment between sessions of the saniderm (3 days a time then clean), after that moisturiser and covered for 3 months. Idk if it is excessive but will see if it helps and will post the results in 3 months if I remember
