      Waiting on my to come this week for my tattoo this weekend. I would like to know can Aquafor be used in conjunction with Saniderm? In other words, once the 24hr pass and I clean it and wait for 30 min to dry, do or can I apply the Aquafor or theres no true need since Saniderm is a breatheable 2nd skin? Thank you.

    I can’t thank you enough brother. I’m on my third big tattoo (18 hours of work in total) and on the second day of healing (after reapplying the saniderm patch. I have more fluid build up and that foul smell like you talked about. Was worried, but after rewatching this video I feel confident I can care for it and heal properly. This definitely helps when you bump or scratch the area of your tattoo. I’ve had plenty of tattoos with saniderm but I’m really glad I had it on with my last one. I was walking out of my room and wasn’t paying attention and i just woke up. I scraped my arm against the door frame and that would have definitely messed up my healing process if I didn’t have the film on. It stung like I just got slapped really hard, but at least I wasn’t blending from the scrape or took some skin off!

    after seeing your journey with it then I suppose it is different for everyone. I got a forearm tattoo and it’s a pretty decent size. I had no fluid buildup whatsoever, no bumps or pimples. I guess the negatives for me were day 4-6 was VERY itchy and the residue it left behind after I took it off was extremely sticky for 2 days no matter what I did or how I cleaned it. Other than that it’s incredible and I’d never personally go back to the traditional way

    • @justinkd
      @justinkd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yeah everyone’s body is going to act differently to this. As for itchy I didn’t feel anything until the saniderm was taken offf and also to help you in the next time you use it, use coconut oil or what they recommend to (sanibalm) over the residue spots and that should take it off

    For the people that are allergic to latex, I suggest Tegaderm. Same concept except latex free. Also medical grade, we use it at the hospital for wound care. The only issue I believe is that it only has certain sizes, so you would have to use multiple pieces to fit a large tattoo.

    • @BrownEyedVampy

    I just got a new tattoo and it was the first time I saw a tattoo artist use this. He actually seemed pretty excited about it to. I have it on my inner forearm and it's working great. Only thing is the first few days it was pulling a little bit when I bent my arm. So just a note for placement for anyone else if you can avoid it avoid joints if possible.
    Also, awesome tattoos! Can't wait to get more.

I leave the first one on for 24 hours and the replacement on for a week and only change it out if there is any major fluid build up or if the Saniderm becomes unstuck. I could never think about going back to any other method for aftercare.

    I used saniderm covering both my inner bicep and about half of the lower outer bicep at once (black and grey tattoo) and it definitely healed holding the ink much better than any other tattoos I’d gotten before without it. My artist told me to keep it on for 4-5 days depending on how it felt. My skin is normally sensitive and gets dry easy but I never experienced any prolonged irritation. I’d recommend taking it off in the shower with soap or coconut oil because it hurts like crazy without lol. Only weird part was the adhesive still being left over, but it falls off over time washing it. The best part is definitely being able to shower and sleep comfortably that first week lol

      This is very relieving for me to read. I just had a phenomenal tattoo done yesterday and the artists co-owner of the shop applied Saniderm to my arm (the saranwrap was too tight so he suggested Saniderm as a superior method). I’ve read to apply one Saniderm for 24 hrs and another for 6 days, but my guy said to leave the first Saniderm on for 6 days and then take it off. I guess I’m just looking for reassurance here that your experience with it was positive.

    got my first tattoo just over a week ago on my inner bicep, artist put an adhesive bandage (like gauze, not plastic like Saniderm) on and said to leave it for 6 days, had it off for a couple of days now and i have a few little flakey spots and thats it, it's so much better and easier than the wash and moisturise 3x a day method seems. no worrying about ink/blood/fluids on clothes or bedding etc, if a spot itches just gently rub over the bandage as if you're trying to tickle it and the itch is gone! and best of all, pretty much 0 risk of infection during the first phase of the healing process.

    I've used Saniderm, Tegaderm, and Second Skin. Loved SS and Tegaderm. I'll never use Saniderm again. It's thinner than the other two and I found it left itchy residue on my skin whereas the other products did not. Plus, it is more difficult to remove. I had great results with Tegaderm and Second Skin and they came off more easily. The Saniderm was difficult to remove and it pulled off skin in the areas that weren't tattooed, so I ended up having more areas that needed healing.

The fact i didn't bleed anywhere shocked both myself and my tattooist. The saniderm I ended up not ordering it as my tattooist uses it. But I noticed that it doesn't stick good to the parts of the head that have a little hair there so it ended up coming off slightly lastnight. I've now taken it off and decided to use the original method of healing but when I go back and finish it off ill use it for that 100% for comparison.

      i have both arms and legs completely sleeved , none of my tatts dried like that , that does not seem like a very good method for Tattoo care, my gf is a nurse and she says that doing that is just covering a wound and is just asking for disaster, and yes a tattoo is a wound, it just does not appear that way because it is full of ink and you cant see the wound. a tatt without ink looks like you have been attacked by an artistic cat. A wound needs air to breath in order to heal properly , that bad smell is infection and it is trapped under the plastic and will only irritate any other parts of you skin that it comes into contact with. also that is not your ordinary cling wrap that you use in the kitchen , it has glue on it, why would you want to clog your pores with glue while trying to care for a tattoo. The whole process just seems counter productive to the healing process

    • @justinkd
      @justinkd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I don’t know man. Some of my tattoos that I’ve used Saniderm on have healed the best out of any. It’s medical grade skin so it lets oxygen through to breathe while keeping anything inside or out. I will agree that the glue sticking can be a problem and unpleasant taking off but having it run under some water frost to loosen it up definitely helps. I’ve done both methods to taking it off dry and under water and both work and leave very little glue residue that can easily be taken off

It is a dressing made for post -op wounds (as the name would suggest). Usually for a surgical wound you can use Opsite with a built in foam grid for cushioning/support which I wouldn't recommend for a tattoo, but they have the fully clear ones too (like Saniderm) which are often used as a protective barrier during surgery which you can make your incision through. To me it seems really useful and helpful.

    The big thing for me is the lack of any scabbing, it's a game changer. You take it off after the 5-7 days and by the next day it's in the flaking/peeling phase.
    Saniderm skips the scab phase entirely. I'm getting a sleeve done, and I have several spots that scabbed and scarred pretty badly, the ink even getting completely pulled from the skin in some of the scabbed areas, this is through traditional wash and moisturize method.
    Saniderm? Nothing. zero scabbing. I keep the bandage on straight from day 1 through to day 5-7 (doesn't really matter after 5, so I keep it for 7 if it hasn't already started peeling off at the edges) and by the time I remove it, the tattoo starts flaking/peeling the next day. A week later and it's pretty much completely healed.
    Swear by the stuff.
    I use it secretly now, because my current artist hates it for some reason, so I bought my own and apply it the day after my tattoo. I remove the regular bandage, wash thoroughly, apply saniderm. Done.

    I always get my new tattoos wrapped up with a product called SupraSorb. I guess this is a similar product, which was originally designed to cover up burns.
    It‘s much easier and safer to apply than Saniderm. And it‘s definitely not made to get peeled off after 24h and applied again afterwards because doing so holds a unnecessary risk of an infection. Leave it on for a week and most importantly: leave your tattoo alone during that week.
    It‘s designed that way to let your tattoo or wounds heal properly while protecting it from dust, dirt and yourself and your dirty hands. 😉

    Great recap video! Can you discuss the balm? How does that work? What do you recommend for aftercare to keep vibrant?

      It's a matter of preference, which 1 are you talking about? The saniderm balm and the hustle butter are just moisturizer. Some artists say things like that are just gimmicks to upcharge, some artists swear by the hustle butter. I use lubriderm It's cheap and has stood the test of time, I have been interested in trying hustle butter though. When it comes to keeping your tattoo vibrant, good healing 1st, then moisturize them. Keep them out of the sun as much as possible or use high spf sunscreen with uva and uvb protection. And keep the top layer of skin healthy, so exfoliate things like that. Somebody told me they use anti aging cream on their tattoos but I'm not sold on that completely it was in some comments and I couldn't see their tattoos or know the age of them.

    Also, Hustle Butter is by far the best aftercare product I've ever used. Highly recommended.

    I got a whole colored leg piece with black outlining. I find your video so informative. I left my tattoo bare for day 1. I then put on saniderm. I am starting to get a little plasma buildup in parts. Should I be worried about my color getting messed up with the plasma/ excess ink? Thanks In advance

    I know a few people who aren't allergic to anything and have had bad reactions and even one of them has a scar from it. However I absolutely love saniderm second skin.

      Definitely not a hassle. Your artist most likely will apply the first one. Then after you apply the second you literally don't do anything else for 7 days. Mine didn't show any significant build up until day 7. No rash no nothing

    I've been getting tattooed for the last 18 years and have been using Saniderm for the last 3. I'll never fo back to the "old fashioned" way of healing. I've noticed that using the off brand leaves more residue behind when you peel it off. Stick to the actual Saniderm brand and you'll have a better experience.
