Banjo Tooie - No Jump Max%: Almost Everything Without Jumping / Flight Pads / Fluttering

- This video shows how to get every non-trivial collectable in the game (except 3 jiggies) without using jump, feathery flap, flight pads, or the SuperBanjo password. This video was created on BizHawk N64 emulator with the help of savestates and frame advance. A full 100% would take 6 jumps.
Please ignore me stupidly using the word "jump" for things like running off an edge. A jump requires an A press. I am commentating because I felt the clips alone were too confusing, but that doesn't mean I have the patience or editing ability to write a script or do more than one take.

This is not an A Button Challenge video. There are things in this game that require A presses that are not jumps, such as agreeing to play minigames or talking to Mumbo. I've been working on strategies for a full A-button challenge run of Tooie, and I might still make a follow-up to this video showing what additional strategies would be needed in that context.
For those more familiar with Banjo demonstrations, I did take advantage of the "short clip" structure to avoid using the position adjustment script within most of the clips.

So gratifying seeing the Sack Pack levitation in CCL - had that same idea for Mr. Fit after seeing Cronikeys' video on it in HFP, only long before bit clips. So cool.

After watching the 100% TAS I was wondering why this video was only 1 hour when the 100% TAS was 3 hours, but now I realize he skips all the travel time between the jiggies and the jiggies and collectables that don't require jumping anyway. Then I was mostly curious what those 3 jiggies that couldn't be collected were. Just like the Mario A press, it's amazing how much you can do in a platformer like this wihtout pressing A and finding out just what limits there are even despite all the glitches. I had a feeling it'd deal with the forced transformations and Terry's eggs make sense, as that one you have to hatch and then carry the overweight chick with banjo and it's the highest one in the level. Always amusing when the few that remain are due to "That ONE TINY ledge...." XD I think Sample's Kirby Super Star jumpless was similar, ONE jump on a tiny ledge. and even 100%ing GCO only required like 1 more jump anyway... in fact IIRC he actually managed to 100% it without jumping at all. (and the worst part...the ONE area he had to jump feels so stupidly trivial cause of the game it happens in). Though KSSR is less merciful as the new games require a lot more jumps on principle.

Unfortunately Banjo is not SM64 and so we don't have people working on challenges like this constantly. But for other "advanced" Banjo content I would check out ThatCowGuy (he also is the expert on low jumps in the first game), HyperresonanceTAS, The8bitbeast, Exchord, Cronikeys, and kaptainkohl.

@@RingRush Just seems like breaking the transformations is just not going to be feasible Unless some kind of "transformation storage" is found, but it'd have to work in real time and not just during transitions for the washing machine to reach the rabbits. I feel that's the best chance for those. The final Terry Egg though.... ironic that KAZOOIE is the one who's vertically challenged here. XD

Just so I understand. The whole purpose of no jump is to assume your controller is missing the 'a' button right? Is that why the bee is controversial? Was that the only time 'a' was used?
I don't like bee because I said "no flight pads" and it is clearly flight - doesn't break the letter of the law, but arguably the intent of it. I'm not assuming anything about the button itself here.
That said, I have an ulterior motive of minimizing A presses to save time in a theoretical follow-up video that extends this into a full A button challenge. But such a full ABC has a lot of other considerations that don't fit into the spirit of "no jumps", such as minimizing Mumbo/Wumba transformations or optimal Canary Mary mashing.
@@RingRush Yeah, I see what you mean. I want to give Bee a pass because it's a transformation in a particular situation...but so are the flight pads. Still it'd feel lame to say the eye ball jiggy is impossible because of the rules as there's just nothing to it, simply you need to fly as Bee to reach those, but it sounds fair to say it cause then it'd be the ONLY jiggy that's 100% impossible even with theoretical glitches which is still satisfying and impressive. (ah but if I'm assuming a transformation storage is possible, then technically the Bee doesn't have to fly and thus it would be 100% possible).
and as you mention with "minimum A challenge" it's curious to see what removing the A button entirely would lead to in that regard (like would Canary Mary's cart races be possible?) I think the Bee would still be the only one that requires the A button.
