- In this video, I show you a traditional South African recipe. It is a very special video because I captured a bit of history. History about roosterbrood (roosterkoek) and history about how it was like to grow up in Namaqualand.

Roosterbrood = the proper "braai brootjie" 2 slices bread, onions, tomato and cheese grilled golden brown and cheese must be melted.
Roosterkoek = Is what you very well demonstrated with this video. Well done

If you could please try to make a video next on kerriebone. My late grandmother used to make it but no one bothered to learn how or get the recipe from her. It was the best kerriebone.

Its very labour intensive. A lovely video - thanks so much. I had only watched the ladies in Colesburg baking the dough but I had no idea about the preparation of the dough - clearly cooking it is only the last stage of a long process.
It was very interesting learning how they make it. The advancements of technology has definitely made it a lot easier but it is always fun doing it without is as well. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️

20 years ago i was 6 months in Namibia, and this one time our group had a special gathering around a braii and our cook made Roosterbrood , one each!, with corn in it- which i learned later was an extra treat, especially since our budget was quite tight. I have been dreaming of this for a while and i searched - again- for a recipe to make tomorrow at some friends' afternoon BBQ !!
I am SO blessed to have found this video !! what a treat it must have been to spend time with that dear woman !!!
I bought the corn earlier this morning and i will get organized to make some at my friends'.... i can wait to hopefully succeed and enjoy sharing this treat with others !!! i will make them a little smaller though !!!! Baie danke !!!!

Get to know other cultures because it's also there in other African cultures even in Mpumalanga which was called Eastern Transvaal it was called Idladla and by then I went to school there because of 1976. Idladla for us township boys it was a home 🏡 but then I new what it is,try to get info it's good what you do. Know the African culture it's good and don't forget to get to know what General Smust what said in 1929 that Africans are like children they forgive. It's not Mandela we do just get the history it's good keep it up you will be knowledgeable because not even Africans do what you do. Thumps up.
There is still a lot that I have learn especially from other cultures in South Africa. We are a very diverse country and I love that about us. I'm very excited to learn from other cultures ❤️
