  • The Jeep Wrangler never really had any true competition in the market - that is, until Ford reintroduced the Bronco a few years ago and it instantly became a hit, digging into Wrangler sales. For 2024, though, Jeep’s given the Wrangler a refresh that further modernizes the off-road SUV in a bid to make it even more competitive with the Bronco. But is it enough? We put both through a series of challenges to find out. Join Edmunds’ Jason Lewis in our comparison test video above for the results!

So instead, what's something about the OTHER vehicle in our challenge that surprised you? That's right, we want to see if y'all can say anything nice about the other team. I picked Bronco specifically for IFS and on-road manners. That's where we are going to live with it most, despite going off-road a couple of weekends a month. That said, props to Jeep for firing a volley in the tow wars with the full-float axle. 5,000 lbs opens up a lot of opportunity for towing. I can see Ford engineering scrambling to match. Offering the integrated Warn winch is cool, too, for those that would want it. The Bronco Badlands offers the most off-road capabilities that 99.5% of people will need and is still very civilized on-road. Most Jeep (and probably Bronco) owners are pavement pounders and would probably be better off with a more street-friendly trim.

At 4:30 you say that the full float rear axle is available some Rubicon trims. In fact, the full float rear axle is standard on all Rubicon trims. What is confusing a lot of people, even "professional" reviewers is the tow rating is 5000 lbs only with the I4 and V6 with 4.56 rear end. However, even the Rubicon trims with 4.88s or powertrains such as 392, 4xe etc have the full floating rear axle.

I've owned 8 Jeeps over the years so I've got lots of experience with owning them. The newest Jeep I owned was a 2022 Rubicon Xtreme Recon I ordered new, & I recently bought a new 2024 Bronco Wildtrack. There are advantages to both, but the main selling point on the Bronco for me was the interior and comfort as a daily driver, since that's what I use it for mostly. The only slightly negative thing I have to say about Jeeps is just lack of comfort as I do a lot of interstate driving, otherwise they're great vehicles. The Bronco is just superior on the road, not only the interior comfort, but the on-road feel.
I love them both & still have a highly modified 2004 TJ for off road playing.

  • @backwoodstherapy
    @backwoodstherapy 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

Both can have doors and roofs easily removed. Both can do amazing on the trail. If all you're doing is maybe 5 or 6 rated trail, Bronco is probably better daily driver - more gears, and IFS gives better riding and handling. The Wrangler is superior in the rocks, and the Willys and Rubicon can fit up to 38" tires with no drivetrain upgrades from the factory - no need to worry about fragile tie rods like the Broncos have to deal with. But if you're not going bigger than 35s and not doing super technical rock crawling, a Bronco will likely be the easier vehicle to live with. And I say this as a Wrangler owner.

    • @Reecesavage-Alwayswin

    • @The-fs5wn

Very few people have broken tie rods on a Bronco. You make the assumption that it is from a false pretense that solid axles are more durable. If that’s the case, than why is almost every modern military vehicle equipped with an independent suspension? With the exception of high rated trails which no stock vehicle can be confident on, either the Bronco or Wrangler will be more than enough. The Bronco will be more comfortable and the Wrangler will have better traction on some obstacles, but other than that they accomplish the same task.

I have a wanted a new Bronco since about 1978 or there about. I didn't like the change to the sawed off pickup truck. Well, now I have a 23 Bronco Big Bend, traded in my 2020 Colorado ZR2 Bison diesel. The ZR2 was much more capable but I didn't really need it. Love the Bronco. It is great on trips. I've had it since March and no off road, just dirt roads so far. Being a BB it didn't have any real skids, just plastic junk. So I've added some skids to everything except the fuel tank. I will hopefully do that soon. I also have a jeep, well, it is a Ford, a 1942 Ford GPW. I went to buy a modern jeep several years ago and surprisingly it didn't feel much wider than the 1942! I love the jeep Rubicon but not enough to buy one. About the video which was great, what was the total "tons" of each vehicle. LOL. The Bronco is very good vehicle but the biggest problem other than the toothpick tie rods is that the dealers have no inventory and their bumping the price over MSRP. Even the used ones are expensive. I live in a small town outside of Portland and my local Jeep dealer is flush with Wranglers and Gladiators and you will find discounts on them. Right now, I am in SW Colorado where we took my son's Gladiator (Mohave Trim) over Engineer and Cinnamon Pass with no problems. The soft suspension did bottom out on a couple of rough sections. Overall, the Mohave suspension is the most comfortable ride of any Jeep (solid axels). The long drive from Oregon to Colorado was very comfortable. I am a bigger guy and the seats in the 21 Gladiator fit me fine. Could have been a change on the 24s. As for the articulation test you did, repeat it where you're on a 13% grade in loose rock. I think you will find the Jeep does a whole lot better than the Bronco.

@@jackcolt6875 Thanks for the reply. I hope your new ride gives you miles of smiles. I did a quick check around my area and found most asking me to call or email for their price. One was very upfront and showed a $15K bump on all their Broncos in stock. What I really want is to buy one at X-Plan price (about 1% below invoice) but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I’m on my 3rd Wrangler but wish the Bronco had been more available when I purchased my most resent Wrangler in 2021. Love the Bronco with the Sasquatch pkg but without it I like the look of the Wrangler better. Seems like Bronco is a little more refined on road and I love that the hardtop has 4 removable panels, brilliant. With Wrangler you get the one touch sky roof which blows any set up Bronco has away. For me its a coin toss and next go around will take a long hard look at the Bronco but price and availability will be big factors. Ps the extra sound insulation Jeep claims on the updated 2024 is only available in the Rubicon X

Hmmm .. You don't mention any of the common Bronco complaints or concerns... like having a lot of interior road and wind noise... or the abundance of cheap plastic (especially the dash) on the interior. nor do you mention that a wider interior equates to also a wider exterior. Add some of the humongous fender flare options, and you will not be slipping through narrow passages unscathed. Make no mistake, the Wrangler has its faults, but the Bronco does not tread water either.

I love both, but what made me go with the Bronco was that in the Jeep I constantly hit my head on the roll bar (?) behind my head. Plus the seating is TIGHT on the Jeep. I'm not crazy tall at 6'2" but I kept thinking that I would be in trouble if I was ever rear endeed in a Jeep. I think both options are great though and I do love off roading in my Bronco.

    Bronco any day.
IFS gives it leagues better handling and steering, and if you actually do serious off-road driving, you’re probably going to modify the vehicle to suit the trails anyway. You can modify the hell out of them since both have tons of aftermarket support now, so either one can conquer any trail within it’s capabilities.
With regards to customization, the AUX switches and easily removable everything makes the Bronco pretty painless to customize. The fender flares can be taken off easily with just fingers, the doors come off with 1 wrench, and any body panel can be removed with just the tool kit. With the Jeep, you’d have to tear it apart to do any electrical work, the doors take a while to get off, and there’s only two roof segments (sorry, no hanging out the top for 2nd row passengers).
Inside, the Bronco’s seating is more comfy, the cabin is more spacious, the infotainment is better, and the interior is safe to wash due to the rubberized floors and marine vinyl seats. The Jeep has a little higher material quality (until you step up to the world-beating Raptor), but other than that there are no pros vs the Bronco.
I like the winch option on the higher Jeep trims, but you can just get an Everglades Bronco if you want a winch. And again, huge aftermarket support means tons of options in that arena for both cars.
Overall, the Bronco is just way more convenient and everything is easier in general.

Jeep Wrangler would sell twice the number of vehicles if they also offered an Independent Front Suspension. They could use a modified RAM front suspension and give it a much better handling on-road driving experience. Not everybody goes hard-core off-roading especially my friend's wife who would never take her Wrangler someplace dirty.

Having had 3 Wranglers (TJ and two JLs), and now my Bronco heritage I would have to choose my Bronco.
I completely agree with this review.
I prefer the seats and interior in the Bronco way over the Jeeps.
Of the Jeeps, my favorite was my stripped-down JL Sport 2 door with the V6. I absolutely, hated the JL Rubicon 4 door with the turbo 4. I could not wait to trade in the vehicle and be done with that turd. Always regretted getting rid of my JL Sport, after jumping into the Rubicon. Guess that I liked the simplicity of it.
Ford won me over with the Bronco, great vehicle.

I think when you compare you need to mention that the Bronco has Apple Car Play and Android auto. The Uconnect system in the Jeep requires an app that costs $15 a month. This might seem like a small inconvenience, but I found that incredibly annoying when I rented a Jeep SUV with Turo for a long weekend while traveling. (it would not even let the audio from my phone play through the speakers without the app) My wireless Apple Car Play works great in my Bronco and if I want to let a passenger sync their phone its as easy as plugging in a USB cable to the dash. I know that many want to know which is the Ultimate off roader, but realistically these are designed to be great every day vehicles that also have great off road capability for when you need it. If you were building a designated extreme off roader I assume you would go with something a lot less luxurious, more minimalist, and a lot less expensive. Something you could tow to the trail head with either your Wrangler or Bronco. It does not look like Jeep has a 360 camera option yet either, after having it in my Bronco it seems like it should be a standard feature in all SUVs over a certain size. When you add up the Interior space, infotainment convenience and steering feel, I think the Bronco is the clear winner. Assuming you have a year to wait in order to get the one you want at MSRP.
