Dan, Thank you for this practical review/reminder. Hope the M3 is still OK. I have several WPT flights saved and you prompted me a refresh of the user manual - Waypoint Flight: “When set to Bypass or Brake, the aircraft will brake and hover in place when an obstacle is detected”. 😊
Yes, exactly right! A reminder that I did not expect to share with people. It just shows you that you need to take your time when flying a drone. I was rushing and trying to fit too much into my day. The M3 is fine remarkably.
Hi Dan, I don't quite understand how you save the mission and how you load it on the app when you are in the location (with which icon you save and load). And then: what settings did you enter for the video (frames per second, shutter speed, etc.)? Thank you
Watch the video again, there is a save icon that you can select after finishing a waypoint mission. I believe that the parameters you are using during each waypoint will be saved.
Thanks for the support Rob! Check out my other videos, I’m trying to cram as much value as I can into each video, hopefully they help! At 23:38 you say you didn't get a warning, but if you watch the footage back, there was a warning, just prior to the crash, saying that obstacle avoidance was turned off.
Hey mate what happens if where u wanna plan ya flight isn’t on maps it’s like a new area that’s basically blank on maps can u drive to each point and click c1 or place ya wah points based on where u drive and click as a point of reference? I have a mav 3 classic
Mavic 3 pro is the equipment. Due to a recent crash I'm looking for waypoints to assist. I look for selecting the waypoints, maybe set altitudes but I would like to manually control the speed, the zoom and the gimbal. I also want to fly sideways recording moving targets that move at different speed at different occasions. How to manage this? Is it possible? If so, any tips?' Some 10:30. You cancelled RTH and reloaded a new mission? How? What would the newbie press? Aha, obstacle avoidance is off during waypoint. It took me 1 hour, 7 minutes and steep mountain climbing to find the drone.... Looks like You're still at the learning stage...
I don’t believe that we have manual control over the drone during waypoints. You can cancel the mission at any time with the pause/RTH button on the remote or the pause button on the DJI Fly app.
@@DansTubeTV Thanks a lot for Your reply! I suppose the left joystick moves, left or right, is the direction control, and needed to be used by the waypoint algorithm. Remains the speed control. Is it possible to make the waypoint flight go sideways? As I recently crashed and worked an hour climbing a mountain to get the drone back, the spirit for wild experiments is still low....
An informative video, Dan! I have used WayPoints with all 3 drones the Mavic Pro, Mavic 2 zoom & Mavic 3 Classic. With the Mavic 3 you can set your WayPoint mission & manually zoom in or pull back & it looks exceptionally good. For example: wear you zoom in say X2.5 then with sun rise start your video & pull back as your way point mission starts. I was disappointed with a linear 3 point mission 4.5 m/s to 2m/s then last way point speed 2 m/s. The algorithm does not gradationally take the speed down from 4.5 m/s to 2 m/s. There is a abrupt jump when the drone arrives @ the 2nd Way point. A pity!
My OA works super reliably both on Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Pro. Long, suoer smooth dolly zooms are a piece of cake wuth Waypoints, a smooth, super slower zoom than one could ever do with the jog-wheel. Qq
I wonder if you can fly backwards during waypoint mission? What is the max. Global Speed? And if you want to tilt the camera downwards, will be the tilt angle naegative?
You can fly backwards, just set the POI in front of you and waypoints moving away from the POI. I don’t know about the tilt angle, you would have to make the point of interest below you.
Waypoints are great for consistency when they work. I have been using them since they became available on Mavic 3 for recording progress over time on construction sites. I just wish that the waypoint files could be backed up and transfer between controllers. I have lost the waypoints a few times now and had to refer to my other controller for the settings and try to estimate them as best as possible
To be fair, ive been super busy, but want to re-explore Waypoints on Mavic 3 Pro. I can make it use the 3X camera, but zoom commands are ignored. I hope DJI is all over adding multi-camera recording abilities, so we will be able to really fo more complex missions.
On that crash, it clearly did display that obstacle avoidance was disabled. Were you on sport mode? Edit: watched the full video, strange how the obstacle avoidance was turned off! I Will have to always keep an eye to that when I am doing any autonomous flight. As for the bypass, I really think it is meant for trees, people, and smaller type of obstacle rather than walls and large objects. I have seen it works pretty well on active track. Nice video and helpful. You can create stuff that could be difficult to execute manually and with ease.
I turn it off when it interferes with narrow pathways I can maneuver or tight manual landings. Very easy to forget to turn back on. A warning reminder before next takeoff would be nice. DJI?
Great video! I love my Mavic 3 Pro but have tested the way points yet. Until this, I had no idea how to use them. Does the obstacle avoidance not work when flying way points, or did you have it disabled?
I am new to flying Drones. I own the Mavic 3 Pro. I am watching U Tube to learn how to understand the functions of the Mavic 3 Pro. I have the DJI RC controller. I was watching your way point video. I am not able to open satellite which reveals the ground with houses, trees, railroad tracks ex. Can you dig deeper with that. Thanks. Gary t
Great video well done! So 2 questions....1st is obstacle avoidance disabled when flying a waypoint mission? 2nd with the mavic 3 pro you have 3 lenses. But the zoom 1-3 is digital only on the main lens? So how to use the other 2 lenses for a waypoint mission?
Great video ! I tried the waypoints for a time-lapse video: at sunset I flew the same route 3 times , once in full light, once in the blue hour, once in darkness... I wanted to "morph" the three shot to start from liught and ending in dark where only the street lights give some light. And Mavic 3 failed miserably. ALthough I obviously saved the waypoints and it was a simple movement ( 8 waypoints in total ), the drone didn't find theexact starting point , so the shots were different in angle and couldn'T be layered.... Do you have any experience or advice in this topic ? Thanks !
Are you concerned about getting too close to those boats along the waterway? It look to me like your ground track may have been within 30 meters of them at points... Sorry to be a buzzkill, but I'm trying to learn the rules and regs myself.

Ahhhh, I believe that it turned obstacle avoidance off after updating the firmware.
Did you try it obstacle avoidance with NIFTY mode?
I have in another video.

Yes, the drone can fly sideways with the waypoint planner.
That zoom feature is a game changer - so hard to do with the wheel manually
Yes! Such an exciting feature 👌
Very nice Dan! Thank you!
No worries Brian! Thank you for watching 👀
Thanks Dan for Testing this 👍

That is annoying. I would love to see a system where we can transfer waypoints.

Thanks for the comment. This was a terrifying moment when the drone hit the tree 🌲

If you make sure that the obstacle avoidance is enabled then the drone will stop and hover if it notices an obstacle.
Never used the waypoint mode, but this inspires me to give it a go. Well done Dan.
No worries John, check it out! Well worth your time, be careful 😉 😂

Hey Gary, once you go into the map view, you can change it to the satellite view. Look for the option down the bottom of the map interface.
Great starter drone! Mavic 3 Pro… 😬

Just View the complete Video 😉
Thanks! So DJI needs to update the waypoint mission features so we can really use the 3 lenses for the mavic 3 pro zoom
Obstacle avoidance can be turned on in the settings. I hope that DJI add more zooming support for the other lenses within the waypoints mode.

Weird, I haven’t replicated a mission multiple times so I can’t comment. That does sound disappointing.
Brilliant review and test, . Keep up the great work because your videos are so easy to watch and you don't scream unlike some countries
I’m glad that you are enjoying my videos! Thank you for the support 🤝
Why doesn't my mavic 3 have waypoint mode? help me please. Thanks!
Make sure that your drone is updated and try again?
On Mavic 3 it was possible to set the zoom with the dial wheel. But on Mavic 3 Pro it is something different. Have you experience with that?
No, that is weird. What exactly is happening?
@@DansTubeTV For me it seems that you cant use two camera’s in the waypoint. Only working is with digital zoom
Mini 3 pro is gonna be my next drone
Solid choice! You’ll love it 😍

I keep the drone 30 metres away from subjects, sometimes I crop the image to make it look closer.
