    I remember 50 years ago when I was just a teenager raking hay with my uncles old Super C with a old JD pull behind rake. Those were the days..

    I remember when i was a kid working on my first farm, Full time at 12 years old. Anyway, i was sent out to chisel plow and yup, turned to tight and ran that darned thing right up the right rear tractor tire. Ruined a whole lot of stuff that day. But thankfully i worked for that farmer until i graduated high school full time for years! he was a very good man and to this day a great and respected friend. I LOVE those memories of learning what I do now! Only difference is I did it for money back then. It's all for the work itself and feeding as many people as I possibly can the very highest quality food I can produce for them.

    I love to see old red iron work! Kind of a funny story, My dad told me that when he was young and his dad was showing him how to rake with an H, his dad told him don't take right turns too quick or you'll take the valve stem right off the tire. And then he promptly took the valve stem off the tire. Thanks for the great videos Pete!

    I was raised on a 120 acre dairy farm in North Central Illinois in the 50's and 60's helping Dad do chores. Used a "H" and rake as my first field experience at 8 years old. Still remember the sights and smells and sounds. Used to bale hay, walk beans and shell corn for farmers in my area. Farming is such a noble occupation. Thanks for your videos. You are living the dream........

    Pete, i love fresh cut hay, it smells so nice, i use to help my neighbour when i was a kid, he is long passed on to heaven, but i still remember those days of cutting, raking and baling, with him, his name was Teddy, we only did hay once a year here in New Brunswick, town of St. George, Canada, i'm 59 now, he also h ad a FRICK SAWMILL, use to help him with that also, well, help him where i could, he use to reward me with fresh milk, and home made BUTTER, and fresh garden vegetables, IT WAS AWESOME WHEN I WAS A KID, those were the days. Wish i could turn back time sometimes. Love your video's keep up making them, i will keep watching, brings back memories. of my childhood.

      Thank you Pete. You reminded me of cutting, raking, & baling hay for my horses, with my JD 3020. I only have one tractor, which has to do all the field work, on my 20 acres. The children are all grown and gone, and I have to put a new fuel tank on my 3020. But at 74, probably your Dad's generation, I don't have to be in a hurry, since I also don't have any horses to feed anymore, but may get one, just for fun & something to do. Thank you again Pete, and here's wishing you & your family good health.

      Here in west Texas the weather is very dry during hay season. I cut alfalfa in the morning but rake and bale at night when there is a little dew on the windrow. Otherwise, I would lose too much leaf and have bales of nothing but alfalfa stalks.

    I watch your videos from the very begin and do love them.
    I am about your age, the youngest of a family of nine children. Our family did small farming in the high mountains of Switzerland. My parents gave up in the eighties as no one of us children took over.
    The way we and the people in our village made hay was without any tractor. We either cut by hand with a scythe or with a little machine (fuel driven) with two handles and a sickle-bar in the front which we had to follow by foot. No sitting. We did all the tedding with a fork by hand/foot all the raking by hand/foot and we even loaded the hey with a fork by hand/foot on a trailer. The machine with a trailer was the only thing to sit while working;) . The hey was then put by fork into a belt-driven blower which blew it into the barn through the roof. Every barn was built with a door on the roof for this purpose. In the barn someone had to evenly spread the hey with a fork (the hey was not bailed but loosely in the barn and picked with a wooden back-basket to feed the cattle). Heying was a family affair and helping hands were always welcome.
    There were no tractors at all. And on steep and uneven mountain meadows, this is the way it is done to this day.
    I am amazed, how early (a century before us) the Americas could sit doing these jobs. This and lots of memories of hard labor goes through my head watching you. I love it.

  • @danielprivate7442
    @danielprivate7442 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Super C is the right tool for that job. Don't need a lot of HP to rake and it gets great fuel economy. The people that built it are all dead and gone, but look at it still doing what they built it to do. 19:48 Glamour shots!
