To answer your question Derek, PartsMaster oil filters are the value line of AutoValue parts stores in Michigan and the Midwest. They are manufactured by Wix, your favorite! You can interchange their filters to a Wix air / fuel / oil by changing the 1st digit of any of their filters. In your case the 1st digit is now a 5. If you ever need Wix filters in Michigan, now you know. :)

I have to agree with you 100% im assuming his daddy taught him how to work on vehicles the simple approach is the best. I wish my father had taught me what he knew. He grew up on a farm so he had to know something. I know thats where I learn a lot about what I know, my brother knows had a farm.
If you can find a good book for auto repair and maintenance from the 1970s or some better shop manuals they'll have good guides on reading plugs. Better if it has color photos. Often the black and white photos or worse the two color illustrations are difficult to get a feel for it from, but sadly that's most of the books and shop manuals. Someone might have something decent on the interwebs. It's a matrix of photos of plugs in different conditions with a description of what each one means.
I had an old Hanes manual for my 76 Honda Civic back in '84 and it had a color section on reading plugs... Never quite knew back then how important it was but I do recall it.

“Derek, the old American engine whisperer”. I like the way he diagnoses just by listening for what the noises are, where from, what’s the quality of sound & possible meanings. In my own small way, I’m like that with Japanese multi cylinder two cycle bike engines, and there’s a surprisingly long list of stuff that can go wrong with them, despite the low number of moving parts. I’m over fussy, and looking back, I don’t think that’s been a good call at all. So, watching Derek’s entire attitude to things is refreshing. “Good enough for the girls we date” is my favourite. Wonder if he says that within arm swinging distance of Jessica?
You've gotta extend the second shifter to be able to reach it. You could row through gears for a mile. 🤣 It would be like a real life fast and furious transmission.

If you ever need Wix filters in Michigan, now you know. :)
I was gonna say pretty much the same thing, but in the south they come from Bumper to Bumper.
Thanks to Jessica and your youngest for coming along and fending off the speedsters.
Derek is the man I could sit and watch his videos for hours even though I'm glad he does an hour I could watch 2 or 3 hours love that tractor great job thank you for sharing God bless
Absolutely fascinating video, Derek is an incredibly intelligent man and the bonus is that he has a great sense of humour. Perfect 👍
I have to agree with you 100% im assuming his daddy taught him how to work on vehicles the simple approach is the best. I wish my father had taught me what he knew. He grew up on a farm so he had to know something. I know thats where I learn a lot about what I know, my brother knows had a farm.
Derek and the crew provide a refreshing and understandable approach to the magic of internal combustion engine. Bob C., Fighter Pilot, USMC
When you're riding past the fields does the tractor think I would plow that?
Yeah, if only inanimate objects could think. 😲
This is the video I have been waiting my entire life for but didn’t realize it until now.
Derek, if you can pull together a video on reading plugs that would be pretty cool.
He mentioned it in one of them and if I’m not mistaken I think it was the one where he worked on the v8 snow mobile. Maybe I’m wrong though!
It's very simple to read spark plugs mini videos on the internet on it
If you can find a good book for auto repair and maintenance from the 1970s or some better shop manuals they'll have good guides on reading plugs. Better if it has color photos. Often the black and white photos or worse the two color illustrations are difficult to get a feel for it from, but sadly that's most of the books and shop manuals. Someone might have something decent on the interwebs. It's a matrix of photos of plugs in different conditions with a description of what each one means.
@drivecam101 I remember every Haynes manual always had a color plug reading chart on the inside face of the back cover.
I had an old Hanes manual for my 76 Honda Civic back in '84 and it had a color section on reading plugs... Never quite knew back then how important it was but I do recall it.
Messin with old stuff on a beautiful day and takin a slower pace home....simply heaven
Loved the journey and your humble way of educating. I’m not that far behind you in age but still aspire to be more like you in skills, bravery and adventure. While we can mimic your personality with phrases, it is a unique formulation.
I sometimes worry that you encounter too much bad gas, oil, mold and dusty debris. Be well and don’t do it just for entertainment if it’s gonna do you harm.
Thank you for another amazing experience!
Yes, I love this project. We had red tractors but never built one. I gave my Dad a sign he out in his window in town. "IF IT AIN'T RED, LEAVE IT IN THE SHED" He loved all his tractors.
So I've been going through quite a few of these videos lately. My daughter is about 3 weeks old. We're quite liking them at 230 in the morning. Keeps us occupied when we can't work in our shop. Love the tractor work. Reminds me of growing up in Montana.
Congrats on your daughter sir!
Seeing you work with your boy reminds me of times with my dad and grandad from when I was a kid. Those are the best memories.
Every time Derrick uploads I get excited like I found a cold snack I didn’t know I had in the fridge
😂🤣😂🤣
he is a perfect human im from michigan and he makes me happy we need that in these days a guy is thinking =
"Thank God I'm a country boy!!" is all I gotta say.
Your a good dad!! Love seeing you teach the youngen
This man is a national treasure
Derek you're a great dad. The way you interact with Bentley makes it fun for him, which keeps the spark in the job. I cut up with kids the same way
I would say this is one of my favorite VGG videos. Aside from independence and the Buick.
I want to see more on that old fire truck!
I liked your reaction to the Parts Master filter lol. I'm in Northern Ontario Canada and I use quite a bit of Parts Master Parts on my channel. Our largest local independent auto parts store uses this brand mostly. They are decent quality and SUPER inexpensive!! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us! Love the Channel.
My brother, Con, put a V8 IH combine motor in a W6 IH tractor. What a beast it turned out to b be!!
A feller has some goldmines like a V8 swapped tractor, fall into his lap 👍 Loved the video. Best show anywhere! Thanks Derek.
Derek your Dad would be so proud of you! Keep up your God gifted talent! Your a great guy and my boys love your channel. We watched almost all your videos!
Greetings from the UK this brings back memories! . One of them has been parked up in a barn since the early 60s. It has sat beside a 1947 Austin 10 my father bought for £14 as his first car! This has inspired me to drag the old girl out and see if she is alive!
Hanging out with your kid and doing what you love. Is priceless
I have never seen a guy drive a tractor 35 miles. Amazing.
It had to be brutal!
Look up Iowa Tractorcade
Every summer, our local tractor club makes a trip to southern Indiana and does a 91 mile ride. Now, That's brutal.
Ah yes, the good old self-grinding cams. Love those.
Absolutely love your content Derek. You are such a great guy. Fella can't help but love watching you play with the electronomicals and such. A Guy is easily my favourite channel these days!
My dad had a farm all h and c I was his tractor mechanic and I loved every single minute of it. He's gone now I miss him very much but seeing you and your son working on the tractor together makes my heart ❤️ smile.
Wow!! You never cease to amaze me with all the different vehicles you come up with. This was really a unique one
A nice change and uniqueness, love the old tractors, while this one has been upgraded sort of wouldn't mind seeing you get thing corrected and let us see what's really going on with it.
Worked at chain of auto parts stores called Lee Auto Parts in Chicago.... in the early 2000's. We carried lot's of Parts Masters auto parts. Bumper to Bumper 👍🏻👍🏻
Part Master in Pennsyltucky were in Carquest stores
We use parts master filters at the shop where I work. Bumper to Bumper carries the full line of them as a house brand for oil, air, and cabin air filters.
"When in doubt just apply brute force." He's gonna grow up to be another fine VGG.
A guy is really surprised by this one getting home without a tow strap. Another video enjoyed, waiting on the next one! thanks Derek and crew!
Well I'll be dipped if this ain't the most unique rig ive ever laid eyes on. Always finding the good stuff.
Awesome as usual!!! I sincerely hope that you have this "vehicle" on the channel again very soon!! Love it!! Keep up the great work my friend!!!
😂😂
Good for the heart, to look at your skills, Derek, learning A lot of things from you!
It,s medicine to see you work with these machines!!
Lord I love tractor videos.... Now give us an update on that hearse! Old iron forever!!
Brought back some great memories! A guy I worked for at a machine shop took an F20 rear end and hooked a big block chevy motor and a big automatic trans. It would go from a creep to like really fast. It had headers that looked like yours! Fun!!
