Remembering Miracle Strip Amusement Park - Panama City Beach, FL

  • This is a slideshow presentation of the now defunct Miracle Strip Amusement Park, that was built in 1963 and was operated until September 5, 2004. This classic beachside park was located directly across the street from Shipwreck Island water park, which was owned by Miracle Strip as well. After 41 years of family fun, Miracle Strip sold the park's land, but kept Shipwreck Island open. The investors who purchased the land wanted to build condominiums overlooking Panama City Beach, but went bankrupt. Now the park just sits there abandoned. Most of the rides have been sold, and the Starliner Roller Coaster was destroyed and rebuilt in Cypress Gardens Adventure Park, where it has been reopened once again.

    They plucked the heart out of PCB when they shut down the Miracle Strip Park. Back when all of those old 60s-70s style hotels were still in operation (and rooms were cheap); the place was magical. About all that remains from my childhood is the mini golf and Alvin's Island (with the volcano). I loved how everything used to be so gimmicky and sculptural.

    I STILL LOVE PCB.. We come there every year for a week.. But it was a lot more fun before ALL THE HUGE CONDO's.. When it was the mom and pop motels and the outdoor dance area and just a fun place. Now it is too LAS VEGAS!!!

    What memories, we went to PCB every year in the 60's up until '78, did not get to go back until '97, we always rented a cabin on the street behind the FUNHOUSE across the Fountain Blue hotel, 5 kids 2 adults and one year a friend went with us, he had never seen the ocean and sadly, he died a few years ago, we always had the most wonderful times there, I have begged my husband to find a IT job down that way so we could move and live there year round, or Destin, I just love it !

    Great memories. Spent several summers there in the late 90's trying to pick up girls and look cool. Wish I would have realized how much I would miss it when it was still around. Never went again after turning 16 in 2001. It's a shame I won't ever be able to go take my wife or children there, but I will always remember the memories I made with friends, some of whom I still have today.

    coolest park ever. In 7th grade we would bring our CDs and hand it to the operator and they would play your song while you rode if someone didnt beat u to it. Strobe lights inside the Devil and others like riding a ride in a dance club. Damn i miss it. They had huge concert speakers and they jammed when u rode. It was the Shit.

    Very well done! I was born in Coral Gables and live in Orlando, unfortunately I've never been to MSAP. Sadly it was Floridas only traditional amusement park. Thankfully, I was able to ride the Starliner when it was moved to Cypress Gardens in 2007. But now it's future is again in question as the new owners og CG decided to eliminaite all the rides. GOD SAVE THE STARLINER, AGAIN!

Being a kid then, it was like a night of lawlessness and CHAOS!!!! LOL!!! GOOD TIMES! And when I wasn't there, I would always be at Silver Circle. : ) Also awsome....

    Man, that really left a lump in my throat. Like someone said, if I had the money I'd build it back exactly the way it was.
    Back in the 70s and 80s when I was growing up Panama City really was a very special place and did decline in the late 90s but does show some improvement as of lately but sadly lost much of it's old charm in the process.

    there is just WAY too much of this kinda thing disappearing nowadays - breaks my heart when I see this... I spent quite a bit of free time at MS with my friends (when our parents could afford it back then). Breaks my heart to see all this stuff go away, not just MS, necessarily - but my wife and I were just commenting the other day on how we have nothing left from our childhood to share with our kids now... so sad - and they wonder why these children are so out of control now???

    They're added two new rides a year, for the next nine years. If you read my whole comment, you would see that was there plan. They my look "rinky dink" right now, but a full part is planned over time. Better to build up, than build fast; because to many companies fell victim to their own pride.

      @Experiment6Two6 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gerald Ward You do understand that the original park started in a similar way and grew over time, right? The new place is not the same, no. But it IS something, and they're rebuilding the Starliner roller coaster now, planning to open it in Spring of 2016.

    • @Experiment6Two6
      @Experiment6Two6 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, they WERE going to do that, and had announced (in late 2015) that the Starliner would reopen for summer 2016. Then it came out that management hadn't paid the rent for over a year, and the park closed and all the rides were auctioned off -- again. I was disappointed when the original park closed, but the new one going down the tubes due to poor management makes me downright angry. I was excited at the idea of taking my kids to experience at least some of what I did for 20-some-odd years this summer, and finding out that not only was the Starliner not there as promised, but that EVERYTHING in fact was gone once again, ticks me off.
