First song I ever heard by The Cranberries was "Linger". I fell in love with Ms. O'Riordan's unique Irish voice and was so sad when I heard of her passing. Another great singer the likes of whom we are not likely to hear ever again.
The gold girl is indeed an homage to the original Cranberries music video for Zombie, where Dolores is portraying the golden Jesus-figure on a crucifix for parts of the video.
The original brings tears to my eyes because of the meaning and the tragedy behind the message and Dolores' voice is just breathtaking. This song brings tears to my eyes because of how the respect and honor Dolores and the original video as well as donating the proceeds to her children. They also sound amazing.
One thing that I love in this cover is that they change a little bit the lyrics, like adding "drones" in the bridge and changing "it's the same old theme since 1916" to "it's the same old theme in 2018", giving us the perspective of the things never change
The girl in gold is supposed to be Delores and the glass between her and the band is the line between life and death. She is on the other side of it.
She was a powerful woman in general, and a great advocate for Ireland!
This is a great cover. Being a metal head, I enjoy the heavier music sound but nothing will replace Dolores’ voice for me. She still has my favorite voice of all time although Floor Jansen is close.

Djent is a sort of subtle or silent "d" as far as pronunciation, like djinn or django. Additionally, I think its interesting to point out the lyric changes where he changes "It's the same old theme since 1916" to "It's the same old theme in 2018" and Tommy also mentions "drones" among the devices used to kill this time. It really drives home, that in all this time, not much has changed aside from *how* the killing is done.

I lost my oldest son, Joshua Rico, in 2018. When he passed away, I didn't listen to the radio, listened to nothing, didn't watch TV for the week for preparing his funeral. After the burial, we were leaving the cemetery, I turned on the Radio, this was on. All day, I listened to Zombie by Bad Wolves, forever linked to me and him.
Today, we left to go clean the graveside of our love ones. I didn't have the Radio on again. I came home and I put on TH-cam, I see Maggie reacting to Zombie.

This was not the version to use. You should have used the Official Music Video as it shows the tribute being paid to Dolores O’Riordan in such a grand way. RIP Dolores Your singing was impactful and timeless, we miss you.

Wow Maggie, I’m surprised you haven’t reacted to this song already. I loved the original when it came out in the time of the “ Troubles” after the death of those children from a car bomb. This one is great with the updating the date and adding drones.

I feel like this is like disturbed version of the sound of silence. The og was a warning and the cover is showing the anger and disapointment that the warning was ignored.

I grew up with the original version of this song and I can't watch this version without shedding a tear. Their Tribute to Dolores is amazing

For a cover of an iconic song this is a very, very good rendition. But...if you haven't hear or watched the original version with the Cranberries you must, must, must, must do so :)
Bad Wolves had become friends with Delores during the lead up to this collaboration. The emotion coming through is quite real as they recorded this not long (days, if that) after finding out she died. They were both paying tribute to Delores and mourning her with this recording.
As a person who normally hates covers, this is fantastic. The respect they paid to the original is fantastic.
Yes, the golden girl is a tribute to the original video where Dolores was adorned in the exact same manner. This video is to symbolize her spirit being there and saying her final goodbye. At least that's what I got from the visuals.
The Gold girl is supposed to represent Dolores, as they pay homage to her where in the original music video she was covered in all gold.

The Cranberries wrote this song soon after the terrorist attack in Warrington Ireland on March 20th 1993 by the IRA that injured 54 and killed 2 children, a 3 year old boy (Jonathan Ball) and seriously injured a 12 year old boy (Tim Perry who died 5 days later.) Both were from Warrington in southern England between Liverpool and Manchester.
They received a lot of backlash from the press at first who said that they should mind their business. But it has become their most well known song and resonates with people to this day.
As others have said, yes, the girl-in-gold is taking the place of Dolores, and if you note...she's on the other side.
Tommy used to sing for Divine Heresy, he has some pipes on him. He also has one hell of a scream.

Like you said, thisvideo has so much power! To be fair, you should watch the original video to be able to see the contrast between the versions. Imothe original is a bit more "stripped back" for lack of a better description, and the simplicity of it with the quality of her voice evokes the emotion of the conflict.
So you know this is a newer song. It is similar but they changed the words in certain parts of the song to be updated to present situations. Most people don't catch it. She wanted to do an updated version of present day. One part you hear is the year they mention and then again with the drones which was different from original song
Tommy Vext was literally killed by his twin brother. Luckily, they were able to revive him.

Feel free to slam me but the first time i heard this was me going to work at 4:30am and this somg came on the radio, never heard it before, but i thought it was David Draiman because of how often the "Sound of Silence" cover has been playing and their low tones to me sound similar. But both albums Tommy was apart of were both killer and worth listening to. He is now on his own project and Bad Wolves have a new simger and put out an album since his departure.

The 'golden girl' is representing Dolores, the Cranberries original video she is dressed up like that. This is a great cover that keeps the same type of play as the original, just 'metalfied'.
Sadly Vext is no longer part of Bad Wolves. They were all fighting over politics and it caused an irreparable schism.

when this came out, it immediately made my top 3 of covers that needed to be made. Johnny Cash Hurt, Disturbed Sound of Silence, and Bad Wolves Zombie. i like good covers, like just about anything Apocalyptica does, or Nina Hagen doing Rammstein Seemann with Apocalyptica, or Till Lindemann doing Heroes, a good cover adds to the story without taking anything away from the original.

The original is by far the superior version imo.. Its a very special song for many of us, with deep historical meaning.. The storytelling of the original video is key to understand the song and the message.. ❤

@@davidlfort Plenty of us wanted it. While I was a teen when the Cranberries were at their height of fame, and I was very familiar with the original, I too prefer this one. It hits differently, and it will appeal to some and not others. I also disagree that the original video is needed to fully understand the song. The words tell that story just fine, if you're listening. That's the sign of a well written song.
I like this cover very much. But the original is absolutely iconic; untouchable. Reminds me of how so many people like Nightwish's cover of High Hopes better than the original. But these young people have no history with these songs. It's great that they're listening to these classic songs (and even the covers).

Please react to the original video by The Cranberries, as well as the meaning behind the song. I absolutely love this version, but the vulnerability in Dolores O'Riordan's voice adds to the meaning which makes that one my favourite. (Maybe also because I grew up with that song and I have family from Ireland who lived through the political unrest she sang about)

i would say that is just above elevator music. definitely not at anywhere near the same level as the Zombie cover.

If you have yet to watch original video please do so... The song is about the violence in Northern Ireland and the UK, because of the British occupation of Northern Ireland. Went on for decades ...same old theme since 1916, as line in song goes. The Irish would fight back with guerilla and terror tactics. The song refers to two children who were killed in such bombings. ...it's an anti war song. The Cranberries video is very heavy. Delores died the day she was going to shoot the remake of the song with the Bad Wolfs The band ran their idea by her, and she liked it, and was to be part of the updated version and video. I think I have most of this right. If I'm wrong on anything, I apologize.

I love this version of the song, but it's a shame that the vocalist for this song is no longer with the group. The golden figure is paying homage to Dolores' representation in the original video.
As much as I love the Cranberries' version of this, there is just something about Bad Wolves' lead singer's low register that gives the verses a much more haunting tone.
I like the fact that you were able to pick up the homage without fully knowing what it means, at the time they had already performed their version of this song and were contacted that Dolores wanted to meet and add to the song. They had no idea what that was going to be, but when the original artists says they like your version and want to participate, you generally say "Yes"... They were open to whatever she wanted to add or do, but were clueless as to what was the plan. She sadly passed away before they could meet so of course they felt bad and decided to make the official version of their cover video a tribute.
The golden girl was a tribute to the original video of the song. (I'm sure some of the details I posted above aren't 100% accurate, but it's what was publicized at the time)
Tommy Vext got the short end of the stick in that band. Booted from a band he created and wrote most of the songs (with the exception of this one obviously) and all because of his political beliefs. But now he's independent and killing it.
You must be joking. That band is full of talented musicians who got sick of his bigger than Jupiter ego. The absolute audacity to refer to them as his "employees" sealed it for me. I try to separate the art from the artist, but man...I just can't stand him. He's right up there with Ronnie Radke in terms of shit attitude. He's another one that has some talent and just makes it impossible to support him. Vext did this to himself, and having to use GoFundMe to get a record made shows that. If he were that good, labels would still be interested. He's made himself more trouble than he's worth. I'm hoping Mr. "I can't play without my laptops" does the same.

He had the tattoo on his arm even before the creation of the band. The members should have left, not booted. PERIOD. Also, you listen to the wrong people. But I get it, you don't like him. But how is the band now ? They failed 🤣🤣 They had a live show where the singer was singing over Tommy's vocals 🤣🤣 what a bunch of losers to do something like that. 😂😂
