Hello, B-E-A-YOU-tiful lady!!! I love your face. Blind is still my fav Korn song. Coming Undone is amazing, too. Eat more Korn. It's good for B-E-A-YOU-tiful you
I sing, I growl, I moan, I groan,... Whatever the song I'm singing calls for. I don't think it comes from Inuit breathing, just very similar. It comes from the feelings and emotions we're trying to express
You need to see the sequel to this music video - 'KoRn = Falling Away From Me' It carries on from where the end of this one has the swinging sign, plus that song is from the next album after this one!
Literally dropping into the comments to say this. Honestly, anyone that suggests a react to Freak on a Leash needs to let the person know to watch Falling Away From Me in sequence and do them together. The tie-in between the videos intrinsically links the songs.
Like many musicians, Jonathan Davis has used his work as a form of therapy for his past traumas. Growing up I feel like they were very misunderstood for superficial reasons, but their work is really great. I'd also suggest "Alone I break" and "Thoughtless" for reactions.
@@DeusExMachina0000000 I mean, it's regularly listed as one of their top 5 to 10 songs, but it isn't about that. It's about the music videos, they are linked.
The children are a large part of their songs. The singer is vocal about his childhood. Be careful. They have one song that is pure emotions. It's called Daddy. He told the band keep playing no matter what happens when I'm in the booth. The whole band came in and comforted him after it was done 😢.

There's a video on here that I have saved with Brian Welch talking about Johnathan Davis coming up with is scatting technique by taking early 90's hip hop reggae and adding some raspy growl to it
I remember loving this and trying to sound like it in middle school (Still would kill this at karaoke), but I hit puberty early to hit those growls. I'd fuck with telemarketers thinking I was the adult of the house in 6th grade lol
I have been to 100s if not 1000s of concerts on my life (used to be part of my job...lol) and my ABSOLUTE favorite time was KORN at Woodstock "99... craziest energy ever!!!!
I had the pleasure back in 2002 of going to Jonathan's house to clean his huge Koi pond in the backyard. Spent about 10 hours and at the end of the day he gave me and my friend each a $100 tip. He was very nice and hung out watching us and talking to us.
Jonathan Davis lived a hyper-traumatic childhood filled with abuse of all kinds. Many of his songs are from that prospective, hence the many children. Korn is a fantastic band that has created a new style in the heavy music. Yes, I like those shamanic wails by Jonathan. This is one of the Korn's trademarks. Their debut album is my favourite. Thank you for the reaction.
The vocal style used at 9:44 is Jonathan's take on the "scat" of the early jazz years - Cab Calloway and Ella Fitzgerald being quite notable for their use of the style. Jonathan, of course, has a more modern implementation, using a bit of growl (false folds / throat singing) and beatboxing elements to make the sound unique!
One thing I like about Korn is that Jonathan Davis has such a unique voice that would NOT WORK in many genres but with Korn's music it totally kicks @$$! One of my favorite bands. Seen them six times from all original members ,new members, and once with Joey jordison from slipknot on drums. Can't wait to see them again.
It’s interesting hearing about how parts of the song sounds are so similar/influenced by such unrelated styles shows a more outward looking approach rather than inward looking. Something I’ve always felt that the most unique sounding musicians take ideas and are influenced by the widest variety. Closing your mind to just one style can be rather limiting as well as potential dull and boring, stifling originality. Take that open mind approach and life in general becomes the most amazing thing!
I was 21 when I first heard this song and I remember waking up and it came on my old digital clock at 3a.m. I was ready for a long bike ride on a Sunday and the moon was bright. I was like yup! Im getting my coffee first and finding out that song! That was back in the day when you could actually call radio stations and have a decent conversation.
I love that you finally found Korn, there's so many amazing tracks from these guys that you'll love. But you must see the MTV unplugged version of this song, they bring Amy Lee from Evanescence up on stage to sing a duet with Jonathan. That whole unplugged set was amazing, with a lot of other guest stars and events like Japanese Taiko drums, but this song with Amy Lee is amazing 🖤
During this era 90’s/2000’s, gun violence in the US was rampant. School shootings became a whole thing, so much so metal detectors were regularly placed in schools. A lot of Korn’s music address the subject, my favorite being Thoughtless.
Saw them once without having ever heard of them, opening for Ozzy...saw them again by accident at a festival show where they played right before Disturbed. I guess I got lucky, they're pretty rad live.
They opened for Disturbed in Arkansas at Music as a Weapon IV in 2007. That was my first Korn show (first concert ever, really, unless you count the small-venue show Drowning Pool did at a nearby all-ages club). Lacuna Coil, Killswitch Engaged, Black Label Society, Korn, and Disturbed. It was a fucking awesome show. Saw Korn again in 2011 at Rockingham, when Munky rejoined the band. Historic show that night. Shinedown headlined, and performed right after Korn...to an almost empty crowd. Lmfao. Almost everybody left after Korn.

Nothing against the first half of the video, but the true fan reaction to an observer who is trained in voice use, was waiting to see your response. The video and song is great in so many ways, but I really wanted to see your reaction to the "growling, beatbox" of the bullet reaching Korn. You did not disappoint.
I have always taken this as the bullet was the freak on the leash because the song controlled the bullet that it didn't killing people. Something that was dangerous that you could never control but was in control kinda of thing
I still vividly remember when this song and album were released. Never knew I’d be revisiting them like this online so many years later. But I first heard it at somebody’s house party- I was sitting on a huge speaker and the album came on. Soon after that I heard this song on the radio, as it had just been released as a single. My girlfriend at the time had an all-night delivery job, and sometimes I would go with her, and we heard this song together. I remember telling her I thought the intro was kinda spooky a bit. Although KoRn has much darker songs than this. But then I heard it again at this guy’s graduation party, on this huge property. The big sound system was blasting it all over that large area. And now all these years later I really dig nu metal and rap-metal, as very cool fusion genres.
Wrestler Chris Jericho, whose a huge heavy metal fan, described the vocal style of Nu metal as “Cookie Monster” vocals. It makes sense. Also johnathan Davis always mentions in interviews how he was victim to abuse and bullying. So his vocal style is an expression of pain, sadness, and anger.
Korn was first band I ever got into. I heard songs my dad played before that but Freak on Leash was on first songs my cousins played for me in 90s I liked that felt like my music not my parents
I'm quite sure some have already mentioned this, but Jon said he just really likes beatboxing so that's where the scatting/metal beatboxing comes from.
Just got a new subscriber I understand how reaction videos work but just want to say I appreciate the fact that when you react you both pause and back up the video so that both the Audience and yourself miss nothing. That is something rare in reaction videos usually the reactor will either talk over the video or pause it but neglect to back it up resulting in small lost parts.
Imagine how we felt when we heard this song when it first came out. I was 13 it was wild as hell. One must always headbang to this if it's ever played. Whether you like Korn or not.
Thank you for the small clip of Inuit throat singing. Put a smile on my face. If you're doing more Korn reactions, I suggest "Blind" live at Woodstock. Amazing performance.
“Why does this video show so many children being so close to danger?” The theme of the song is that we are not in control…. the hatred, confusion, selfishness, or even simple missteps of others can destroy parts of us or even *all* of us, but it is our responsibility to withstand it.
The bullet was "The Freak On A Leach" that's why it could transform/transport from cartoon to real life, When lead singer of Korn made the bullet go back that's when you see transform/transport back from real life to cartoon
Video and artwork for the album was created by Todd McFarlane, respected comic-book artist and a creator of Spawn. I think this is a match made in heaven (or hell). Korn was the first metal band that I was introduced as a teenager. Been a fan ever since.
The part of the video when the bullet stops and Johnathan does the "breathing"/"growling", as you referred to it, is actually inspired by Jazz, it is known as Scat Singing.
Obviously I hold KoRn up as my very favorite band of ALL time!! When Jon Davis is performing and doing his 'scatting' that is the most awesome part of listening to them in my own opinion
the cartoon part of the video is done by Todd McFarlane. He also did "DO THE EVOLUTION" video for PEAL JAM. He created SPAWN and the Character VENOM for marvel, also did 29 issues of the Amazing Spiderman
The video/song you should watch/listen too of theirs is "Falling away from me" it is the first single from the album after the one this one was on and the video/song are kind of a contentious of (but not exactly a sequel to) this video/song. The video starts from where this one left off with the swinging sign. It is also a good song (and video).
Also, if you’re looking for more of Jonathan Davis’s scat vocals PLEASE do a reaction to twist/chi. It’s technically two songs but twist is only like, a minute a long, but it’s pretty much all scat
Jon Davis is, regardless of birthdays, the biggest dude of every dude that ever duded in the history of dudes. Is it the 40th birthday or Juniper? He has written a bass line.
it's fun watching you explore this stuff i just grew up with. throat singing is a great possible inspiration, and there are traditions in the East and European history as well. the emotion certainly seems somewhat like the haka chant traditions of the Polynesian Māori. i think it's worth mentioning beat-boxing, which certainly became more popular as hip hop and street styles got mainstream attention, and of course scat.

Korn was first band I ever got into. I heard songs my dad played before that but Freak on Leash was on first songs my cousins played for me in 90s I liked that felt like my music not my parents
The backstory about so many kids is probably best explained by the opening scene and the final scene.
I would say. “right now” but the amount of mugs for that one would be way over my pay grade😂 Shoots an ladders would be the safer vote. .
I'm quite sure some have already mentioned this, but Jon said he just really likes beatboxing so that's where the scatting/metal beatboxing comes from.
Another one of my favorite korn songs is shoots and ladders, which has a back story I can relate to.
Whole album was like that, like the hopscotch next to a cliff was on album cover, and I had the shirt as a kid with that on it.
“Why does this video show so many children being so close to danger?”
The theme of the song is that we are not in control…. the hatred, confusion, selfishness, or even simple missteps of others can destroy parts of us or even *all* of us, but it is our responsibility to withstand it.
The bullet was "The Freak On A Leach" that's why it could transform/transport from cartoon to real life,
When lead singer of Korn made the bullet go back that's when you see transform/transport back from real life to cartoon
This video and song is a freakish type. So different and crazy.
The songs of those album go in a story, as do the accompanying film clips :)
They had a few songs on the soundtrack for Queen of the damn.
I concur. I've always known it as Nu Metal Scat, and I'm 43.
100 percent!
@@KingofKarnies I am 47 - I bet she has not heard of Scat singing (it is not 2 girls 1 cup + singing) or 'The Scatman' song RIP.
@@Defensive_Wounds 2 girls.!!!!..lol... you made me snort my soda up my nose with that reference...lol
This is literally the song/album that sent me down the metal rabbit hole!
I really enjoyed your breakdown to this song
I love the captions on when JD is in full scat lol
Great reaction and breakdown. Subscribed.
Welcome and thank you! 🤘😊🤘
Every Korn fan knows this song starts at "GO!"
part of the heaviness you hear in the percussion is the bass... between the tuning and his play style, it amplifies the percussive notes
I had never seen this korn video actually really cool
Omg I’m old. I listen to this in high school. I use to watch it on mtv show called trl.
She gone learn today. 🖤 keep goinf girl
Kron is still a Awesome Rock Band.
those sounds the lead singer makes are also inspired by what in hip hop music is called ''Beat Boxing'' which was big in the 80s
Shoots and ladders is cool and got the life is good you rock keep up headbanging good band keep rocking
Maggie's face when he stars rapping! lol
Their song thoughtless and coming undone or some of my favorites
The video/song you should watch/listen too of theirs is "Falling away from me" it is the first single from the album after the one this one was on and the video/song are kind of a contentious of (but not exactly a sequel to) this video/song. The video starts from where this one left off with the swinging sign. It is also a good song (and video).
I would love to see more classic KoRn!
Okay you got to do their first hit song (BLIND) and also (SHOOTS AND LADDERS).
I love your reaction and this song
It’s a requirement to headbang to the breakdown in this song
Also, if you’re looking for more of Jonathan Davis’s scat vocals PLEASE do a reaction to twist/chi. It’s technically two songs but twist is only like, a minute a long, but it’s pretty much all scat
Jon Davis is, regardless of birthdays, the biggest dude of every dude that ever duded in the history of dudes. Is it the 40th birthday or Juniper? He has written a bass line.
You know a song is good when the proverbial “stank face” comes out during the bridge of this song 😂
it's fun watching you explore this stuff i just grew up with. throat singing is a great possible inspiration, and there are traditions in the East and European history as well. the emotion certainly seems somewhat like the haka chant traditions of the Polynesian Māori. i think it's worth mentioning beat-boxing, which certainly became more popular as hip hop and street styles got mainstream attention, and of course scat.
Also i dont know how many people have commented this but the little girl hopscotching is also the album cover art.😊
BLIND should be your next reaction 🤟
Otyken is a group that I love and my wife comes from that tribe.
You gotta check put Shoots and Ladders as well as Coming Undone.
Pure shock. Thats the 90s :D
