You will LOVE Blood Harmony by Larkin Poe. They're sisters, and their bro is on drums. And they're Edgar Allan Poe's great great great great grandkids!!! The song Made As a Hatter live at The Convent Club is magically delicious. Bluesy slide guitar and a wailin' angel. It's about mental health with an Alice in Wonderland feel. Greatest song I've ever heard, I swear
This song is very personal to me. I've had recent tragedies in my life losing my wife and my father. The final line of this song helps me power through. "It's a day that I'm glad I survived"
Sorry for you, I know that too. 4 years ago, we were prepared for the lost of my grand aunt (97 yo), 3 weeks earlier, I had a call, my grandmother passed away (mother of my d*ed dad), approximately one month after those two, another call early morning, my sister passed (32 yo), I have to support my mother and take my feelings on side (can't handle hers and mine at same time), my other grandmother (mom side) hardly support my sister brutal de*th, get sick and passed few months later. It takes my mom 3 years to move on with help of lots of friends and me. Now we're closer than ever, almost no living family. Music helps a lot, SOAD, Megadeth, Metallica and many more. It's important having friends, activities and support. Hope it gets better for you too. (sorry for my English, not my mother tongue)
I do really love this song. I'm so glad you reacted to it, Maggie. 🥰 The lyrics are simple and somewhat direct with little or no hidden meaning. It is about loneliness and how it takes a toll on you. Daron Malakian was actually quite skeptical about this song but still wanted everyone to hear it.
I scrolled a few comments and didn't see anyone quite spot on; daron is typically the backup vocalist, but he wrote this and sang the primary role about the day his brother he was very cloae ro passed away. If you want to hear more of Daron as a vocalist the band "scars on broadway" is essentially just system of a down without Serj
The way you hit those harmonies so effortlessly is amazing. I’m not the strongest singer but I will always try to hit the harmony if i’m singing along to something and it takes me a few tries to get it. You nailed those on the first take.
That las part when Daron hit the high note and come down gradually, feels like a lonely dry leaf coming down a tree till hit the ground smoothly. Love this song
The dissonance at the beginning sets up the overall mood of the song. Something is not as it should be. And loneliness should not be. Yet the dissonance works, conveying the fact and the feeling of being lonely to the listener.
When the chorus first drops in, there's strong Green Day vibes. It's also nice when you get to hear Daron lead. Everyone is always so familiar with Serj's voice.
Another awesome selection to the Maggie Library! Always love the diversity of the channel and learning artists I haven't really listened to before. Great reaction!
Rather interesting to me! As to the flames, there is a direct reference to Pink Flyod's "Wish you were here" in one of the first stills (Maggie timestamp 3:23). The iconic two men shaking hands from the album cover is replicated, with the flames behind the men in SOAD's case - on the Floyd album cover one of the men is in flames. The iconic pink Floyd song was in tribute to ex band member and founder, Sid Barrett. Barrett suffered from drug and mental health issues. In SOAD's case, part of the reference was (I think) to Daron's brother who had recently passed away. Great reaction Magstar!
If I remember right, the song was written and sung by Daron not Serj. The song was written about being stuck on a tour bus between shows. Sometimes they would go coast to coast between shows because of bad scheduling and it was wearing on him. The fire was something to do with them missing all the action going on around them because they were just stuck on a bus. I may be 100% wrong but I'm pretty sure I got this from an interview almost 15 years ago.
This song is featured in the movie Disturbia with Shia LaBeouf and also featured in one of the guitar hero's for the solo of course I don't remember which one however.
I very much like the Chop Suey nomination I did, led you down in a SOAD rabbit whole 😅 About the song, it's from the Hypnotize album, which is somehow a double album along with the Mezmerize album. Daron is involved a lot more in the vocals, apparently, Serj didn't want to participate much (John said in an interview that they almost didn't record those albums. The band went on hiatus after)
It’s possible if you watched the movie Disturbia starring Shia Labeouf you heard this song literally throughout the whole movie--this song was the movies theme song kinda
Love the intro house of the rising sun type and have heard variations in some other recordings. Who wouldn't want to use a variation of their own to set such a tone of being alone. That line "if you die, I wanna die with you," tells me how desperate you are; that you are willing to die for just a few moments of company. Just how alone do you have to be for that to happen? Desperate people do desperate things.
I'm so glad you were introduced to system!!! I love all their music, theyre my favorite. i suggest you listen to their solo stuff too . but i would recommend listen to more songs from the bc their solo stuff has a different feel but similar!! more like individuality
I always felt the fires, and specifically how everyone ignores them, is about how it's always someone's worst day. Their world is on fire and you probably just can't see it. So I see it as being willing to give people the benefit of the doubt and be sympathetic and empathetic. Of course, that's just me. Probably not what it is.
If you saw the film Disturbia, that may have been were you heard this before. It's early on over the montage of Shia LaBeouf doing various things to pass the time on house arrest.
I never really noticed that this sounds very similar to The Animals song. And I've been listening to them for years since 2000. Their song Sugar was what got me turned on to them while I was still in the Air Force in Utah. I am so proud of you, you have come so far since I first started following you. 😘
It could be about the bus as most have stated but I think it's more to it. The fact that soldier side comes up next to end the album and nodded to the closer on Mezmerize to me suggests that the lonely day is when your shipped off to a foreign area with no-one you know, not knowing if you're gonna make it home, etc. I feel they go too hand in hand.
Great choice. Always enjoyed SoaD. I think the context is what you want to make of it. To my knowledge, there is no deep meaning behind the song or the video. That sure doesn't mean there is not one. That said, it's a bit confusing as it seems to be a song about pushing through pain/loneliness. But then the line "if you die, I wanna die with you" comes and blows up that theory. 🤷♂Nevertheless, a great song and a video that keeps your attention.
Great spot with the House of the Rising Sun intro. I love both songs but had never made the connection. Shows why you are in music and I'm not I guess. lol
Its a day i'll never miss......what do yu do if EVERY day is this? Then what? If your entire existence is nothing but that then what? He has "days" what if it was every single day that you feel nothing but this 24/ 7?
Hi Maggie its TommyBee Here again 30/04/2023. Think I have watched about two years of your reactions today so please excuse the familiarity. Have you done a reaction video of 'Great Gig in the Sky' by Pink Floyd off 'The Dark Side of the Moon' album? It has to be the album so that you can listen to the legendry improvised singing by Claire Tory who as a jobbing singer was invited to the legendry Abbey Road studio to provide vocals. The story goes she wandered into the studio at the end of the day and was instructed/guided by Dave Gilmore to improvise without any lyrics to the music which was about the 3 stages of life. Birth, middle age and finally death. I know you will be blown away by the supposed single take interpretation she performed. It is beyond incredible.
Figured you would make the connection between this riff and the riff of House Of The Rising Sun. same chord progression, same time signature (6/8); the only differences are the notes in the riff (lonely day has one less fretted note), and tuning (House Of The Rising Sun is in E Standard, Lonely Day is in drop C# Tuning).
This reminded me of a Motorhead song that is quite a ballad, and the rough volcals singing it softly are crazy, like in this of SOAD! Can't remember the name now, and I've been away for a while, if anyone remembers it, please send help! Lovely video!!
My personal interpretation of this viedeo ist that the flames respresent the inner stress of Person, that suffers from something, while the people arround him do not know how he feels because he is acting it off by doing normal stuff. So the person has the feeling of lonleyness because off the emotional diffrence to the people around him. Does is make sense? But its wrong I looked it up its about a broken relationship.
First you should listen to Spiders by System of a Down. Second if you like the guitar check out Buckethead Soothsayer. It is instrumental though, but mind blowing never then less.

Cool story bro but who the fuck asked?? I hate comments like this
i think the fire represents the feeling of loneliness and no matter where you look or go its always gonna be there
The entire double album Hypnotize and Mesmerize are full of excellent harmonies
Daron is underrated.
Unlike the other guy, he can actually sing
@@morehamsandwichMost L take ever

Yes , he is
Yup, he’s the biggest creative force behind the band
I heard Daron Malakian (the guitarist) wrote this song after his brother passed away.
This song puts tears in my eyes everytime. No matter how happy i am, or how good of a day i am having.

Everything is on fire because Daron, who sings this song, brother died in a fire 😔

The fire is chaos and people going about there day never see it just like not noticing a lonely person cause we suffer alone....
Lead singing on this one is from the lead guitarist with harmonies with the vocalist
Would like to suggest Question for your next SOAD reaction.. You would probably really enjoy the visuals and the song is a banger...
Just delve into their discography. Beautiful band

pretty sure his brother died in a house fire hence the flames..

I've never looked up the meaning, but to me this song just defines the feeling of ennui.
The world is burning and they feel lonely. They notice it but can't change it, nor are people willing to see it.
Watching your mouth forming all kinds of shapes while you are reacting is very exciting, keep it goin Mag.❤😊
This song is about September 11, 2001.
No context to what it all means but I think the fire is his world on fire and everyone else is going about their day.
