This is awesome video,i was about 10 years old when thees monsters fly through finland and i never forget it,i was watching with my father at ouninpohja and nearly 40km stage you can hear the car from start to finnish.
Such an amazing car...This thing weighed just a couple hundred kilos more than a Mini Cooper S with four times the power, plus it was dual-charged - that is, it had a turbocharger for the higher rev power and a supercharger for the lower end power and throttle response. I'll forever be in awe of the driving ability of pilots from Group B.

Bless him. I remember hearing him say how dayum tiring these cars were to drive. Shame noone listened to the drivers until after the accidents. Ive always wondered if they couldve concentrated more on safety and accident survivability instead of just banning it outright. Rip to everyone lost.

This car has the best performance, but only Toivonen could achieved it. 205T16 was easy to drive compared to the Lancia S4. But overall I have great respect for Alen and I feel sorry for him that he didn't win in 1986.
Agree with all you say. The Delta S4 only had one year in Group B to prove its worth. It was bound to have some technical faults and failures. Had Group B continued and the planned Evolution of the S4 taken place then i'am sure Lancia could have taken it to Peugeot.

O facto que matou o Group B foi a falta de regras de segurança! As próprias construtoras embarcaram numa febre de ganhar a todo o custo! O que poderia ter sido algo magnífico morreu nas mãos dos criadores! Fica a memória de carros e pilotos dos quais nunca haverá palavras para os definir mas, regras e menos procura de protagonismo de certeza seria a palavra chave para a continuidade desta categoria pelo menos mais umas décadas! A meu ver foi o início do fim de uma modalidade que hoje não passa de carros todos iguais e pilotos, e é um futebol de patrocínios não há aficionados enfim... Parece a F1 atual onde as raparigas são fãs do piloto mais bonito. Um bem haja à Grande Lancia e todos os pilotos que foram "Lancistas" ❤️🇵🇹

But Peugeuot was excluded and couldnt race in that event, so i think if they would race they sure had enough points to win the championship. The decision to retire the event in Portal was imo right - too much crazy fans, an irresponsible organizer and the big crash of Santos made this event to an undriveable race.
As a Rally car it would be probably the scariest ride you could have. with all the weight cuttings that car was borderline unsafe to begin with. I love it that was when safety protocol was don’t Wreck
It's so sad to think of Lancias heritage and to look at the absolute crap they sell today. I hope they eventually make a comeback, they would do well to be made and sold as a Subaru competitor that does proper racing programs.
why did they remove the large rear wing? The downforce cooked the brakes on the rear so badly, and combined with the fuel tanks, it caused the brakes to overheat, this led to the fuel tanks being moved forward and the wing being smaller. then, Lancia realised their mistake
sandjoprod video Most of it was filmed on 16mm film except for Henri testing the S4 at 12:00 and Markku testing at 14:07 those were both shot on Betacam Both were originally shot in 4:3 so i had to re frame them to 16:9.
My thinking is the S4 was the best even though the Quattro brought the change and T16 was the rally winner...but the S4 was a special one....#groupB....the era I wish I was in...

One of the ugliest rally cars ever, yet one of the best ever as well. The only one that did challenge the 205 T16 before the end of the Group B. But gosh, it really wasn't eye candy ^^'

Because the FIA were already have second thoughts after allowing Peugeot and Audi there rear wings. Lancia had to compromises and use a smaller wing.
