Hey Marv , thank you so much for your totally awesome footage. I was there in the day, still can’t get enough of this amazing period of motor sport. Your doing a great job keeping this stuff alive. I’ve even got my son into the might and power of Group B and the legends piloting these rocket ships. Cheers from Aus
Did you see the Group B cars in Europe or New Zealand? I used to be devastated that I didn't get to see these cars in the day. The pain has eased somewhat over the years.
Being in Aus I just followed every race I could. I worked in a dealership that sold Audi among other brands. So we got all the marketing stuff of the day. Including great video footage. Love it !!
I don't care what anyone says. The S1 E2 Quattro is the meanest baddest machine to set foot on a rally stage, not even a contest. There's no other car as full of drama, character and sound as it, completely unique.
Congratulations Marv for yet another great video. Way back in 1985 (19 years old) I was a spectator at the S.Remo rally on the S.Luce road (Pisa) and I had the privilege of seeing this car with Walter Roehl 1:39 live. Scary...we were at a point along the route on a dirt road after a bump...the monster passed over our heads at over 190 kmh.... nostalgia for those times...
Good rally video ,, Really great rally car Audi Quattro one of the Best, even though this Audi didn't have suvussa, but the predecessoŕs won the 1983-1984 Word championshisps Rally legends Hannu Mikkola and Stig Blomqvist 👍
Awesome clips ! I did not realize in 82, when I met John Buffum and saw him rally, that he had just gotten his Quattro. I was a nobody scca volunteer and it felt like I was a friend talking with him. On a stage ib the Sun Riser, i was posted at a stretch of fireroad(?). The road was slight curves, maybe an eigth mile viewable. When he came by, it looked so fast and smooth. My friend picked me up in a lightly prepped car and we drove the same stretch. It was horrible at 40 mph. Why the car didn't break, I don't know.
@@Marvdogger2 Homologation paper B-264, page 48 "make and typ of turbo charger: KKK/K27". The size of the spiral of the exhaust gas side was not part of the holmologation, but the compressor side was exactly described on the same page 48. This was for Gr.B homologation cars Rally-Sport-Quattro and S1E2. For Pikes Peak, the homologation was not a thing, so any turbo was possible :-)
Great video as always, but, the written information at the beginning is incorrect It had a 2240cc engine, 1090kg and the power range was in the s1 e2 from 500-650 typically, however Audi managed to boost it on one rally, San Remo to around 950 with a special fuel according to one of the main engineers I interviewed years ago
I am so happy to see a new upload. Love your work. Are you on X which used to be Twitter? I would love to share your work on there as I have a WRC channel.
@ Ahh ok mate. I am sure if you went on X people would be unbelievably impressed. Your work is amazing and so many Rally fans are on there. Is it ok to share this one? If yes will share the link so you can see the love for your work 🙏🏻
Thanks for staying with me and your continued support. The old days of youtube were the golden years. Way less adds and easier to get content out there.
It is night.... If I see ti now adrenaline will flow and I'll not sleep... This is going ti be my tomorrow morning wake up... I'll spread the video too... welcomeback !!!
Not the best Group B car (and i'm a huge fan having worked at DSM) but the most brutal, aggressive and best sounding car of the era, and towards the end of 85 it was producing 570 BHP with terminal understeer and weight problems due to not being purpose built. According to Hannu it was, on occasions almost impossible to drive. Fantastic and the car that will best represent the Group B era
Did DSM ever run the car completely or did they shadow the mechanics from Ingolstadt on the Ulster and Manx rallys in 1985? as they were still running the Sport quattro with Hannu. I'd imagine they would have switched to the E2 at some point in 86 if Group B hadn't been banned.
The last part is just INCREDIBLE!. thanks
I've forgot to mention the music that match perfectly

Sorry guys. I just fixed a few of the audio issue's that were bugging me yesterday and reuploaded the video.
And here I thought you had to make modifications due to copyright issues. Glad I was wrong :-)

"I don't care" as in you don't want to be argued with? haha
@installshieldwizard3017 "I don't care" because people like you. I'm not even gonna bother wasting any more time with the likes of you.
I'd say there's an argument to be made for the Delta S4, but I like them both.
You always bring new life to this old footage; awesome !

Appreciate the work that went into editing those clips in that order.
Thank you.
holy smokes! one of the best S1 vids ive seen! keep up the good work
Best sound ever!!!
Thank you from germany for the upload 🤝👌👌🔊🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎵👂👂😇😍😍
Amazing footage. Thanks for uploading.
I'm really happy you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching.
It’s interesting when you sit and think about what Hannu was saying. Rally suddenly was as fast as F1.
I think people would like a similar video on Lancia’s Group B cars and the Metro 6R4.
Yes we would!
yes, 100% 🙂

Great memories. John drove a Sport quattro in the last ever Group B rally. The 1986 Olympus.
Fantastic upload, nice work!!!
I'd recognize that 5cyl and k28 blow off anywhere :))) amazing!!
Hannumikola a fantastic Driver a legend in his time
Encore une superbe vidéo
Merci beaucoup Marv ❤❤
Absolute fantastic video!!! ... but a little mistake in the beginning, in the description: The S1E2 used a k27 turbo (not a k28)
@@florianrotter I did look in my archive and The Audi quattro owners manual said the Sport used a K27 but the E2 and Pikes Peak used the K28.

Brutal BRUTAL BRUUTAALL CAR
The sequence at 2:30 is unhinged. Play back at 1/4 speed....

Mad thing is that these audi's started my love affair with cars. Id never buy a new audi. I prefer the raw experience of the 80s cars 🤷♂️
If only they hadn't stuck to the production car layout, Audi would've had a LOT more credit than just the introducers of AWD in rally
