    The fact that you transition your look according to what you're doing / where you're going shows professionalism & maturity - I love your stripper analogy because it's the truth. Blinged-out nails for a video does not have the same appropriateness as blinged-out nails if you work in a law office.
    There's definitely a time/place for everything.

    It amazes me that people don't understand that when you go to different places you need to look the part. I'm not going to go to my 9 to 5 in an evening gown. I'm not gonna go to a wedding in a pair of cut offs and flip flops. You are not less black because you want to look the part and be appropriate At whatever event you attend. It's sad to me that these people who claim to be so pro black are completely missing the point. Black excellence takes into account time and place. If a black 'woke' person is Preaching about Black Power and can't even read the room they need to start with self improvement above all else.
    I'm so sick of all this crap. These are the same people who want us to be so different and yet they're willing to put other black people in a Box instead. Being black is not a monolith and they have Lost this very important concept to their SJW woke nonsense.

    • @KileyOhl
      @KileyOhl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I have no place chiming in, but is being ‘woke’ being confused by people as their right to be the mouthpiece of all black people? I am so thankful for all of the things I have learned about a fraction of what it is like to be black, but unless I woke up in your skin (literally) I will NEVER be woke enough to know. Then again, maybe knowing that and accepting and committing to the journey of learning and correcting your misunderstandings IS ‘the real awakening’ to begin with. God I hope so. 🥰❤️

      @@KileyOhl The best thing anyone can do is to always treat each person with respect and to not paint large groups of people with a broad brush. Always remember that with individuality people are gonna have different opinions and believes. We need to respect the beliefs of others even if we don't agree with them. Not to call others names and labels because we don't. The problem with 'woke' culture is they want everyone to get on the bandwagon of how they think or feel. They have lost what it means to truly be awakened To the freedom of thought. You can only do the best you can.

      @Catania Momma Italia the entitlement doesn’t inherently come from their freedom of speech, but the way they present it. It’s one thing to state your opinion, and it’s another to try and impose your view of something onto someone else; basically outright telling someone they should be a certain way. They are fully entitled to their choices and actions, but that entitlement doesn’t extend to the choices and actions of others. You can’t force someone to think the way you think, or live the way you feel they should live.

You can be yourself without imposing yourself on every space you come across, it's such a selfish and immature thing to do. It would have been another story if someone had told her she had to do the french manicure but she chose to do it herself because she wanted to and also because she's mature enough to realise that super long and bold nails just aren't appropriate for certain spaces and that, that's not an attack on her personal preferences but just how things are in the adult world. As much as you have to love yourself and not change yourself to please others, it's JUST as important to respect the different spaces you will find yourself in! People have become so selfish and conceited and they excuse it with "loving yourself" and "not toning yourself down", smdh, No honey, she's not toning herself down, She's being an emotionally adjusted adult who knows that not everything must be about herself!

Because the long blinged out nails isn't a racial thing, it's more of a pop culture thing. As soon as you said in the videos you didn't want your nails "urban" I literally said out loud "oh lord, I can see how this is gonna go". And not because I felt any way about it but because how comfortable people have gotten attacking others when they feel differently than them.
    When you made that comment personally I took it as you wanted "classic" nails and not "pop culture" nails. I didn't equate it to blackness as the long blinged out nails have nothing to do with race. But I knew when you said it you would have everyone attacking you and claim you "feel ashamed" to be black as I see it so much on here.

      Though I don’t think anyone should attack someone over a word I think the term “urban” has a somewhat negative connotation because it’s been used by non black people as a description for things related to black culture. I honestly think it’s somewhat micro-aggressive. To hear your clothes, hair, neighborhoods, etc. be described as “so, urban”.
      So I think when she said she didn’t want “urban” nails especially in the context of going to a country club (which many people unfortunately associate with a proximity to whiteness), it rubbed people the wrong way.
      I think there could have been a better use of words such as trendy, dramatic, glam. Or that she just wanted more refined or classy nails.
      But regardless to what disrespecting others is not the way to express your opinions or to be heard.

      @@customcollage9228 the problem isn't the word that was used, the problem is the morphing of words meaning to include or infer anything other than its actual meaning. The word urban is derived from the Latin urbanus, urbs meaning city. While the Latin word for city was urbs, the resident was civis or townsman. Not unlike other words, this too has been taken and stretched and twisted to imply something entirely different...but I guess popular slang will eventually alter every language on earth if we let it.

      @@kimcallaghan3404 I mean this in the most respectful way but that’s just how languages work. You can say it’s stretched and twisted but it’s truly evolution. Like for example the term antisocial being used improperly for so long that the word, to most people, has taken on a different meaning in society and this definition is now recognized. “Urban” is not just slang it is a word that has been pushed onto certain communities as descriptor to say what/who they are without having to truly say it. And possibly be deemed racist or insensitive. I really didn’t want to have to do a deep dive in the comments, so I won’t. But please understand there is a lot of nuance that you may miss and it isn’t just a trendy new word. Nothing with language is set in stone, but if you could inform yourself of the Latin meaning then you could take time to learn the somewhat negative implications and nuances of the word.

    • @kimcallaghan3404
      @kimcallaghan3404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@customcollage9228 while the word may be inferred as such today by virtue of misuse or twisting or otherwise skewing its definition, the fact remains that Urban means city and Urban Dwellers are people who reside with in the city, how some modern day wannabe wordsmith chooses to attempt to rewrite it to suit their purpose only displays them for the manipulators they are. And sadly the Latin meaning is the original definition so it might just as well be cast in stone given that the majority of all languages stem from Latin, I don't subscribe to the notion that one can call an apple an orange, or recreate ancient language and morph it into something it isn't, and unfortunately that is the issue here, people trying to rewrite the dictionary in the attempt to use it to belittle somebody else with.

    • @customcollage9228
      @customcollage9228 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@kimcallaghan3404 I don’t think we’re gonna get anywhere. It’s not just twisting it’s the development of language. And while I understand where you’re coming from, I don’t think your argument stands because words have evolving meanings/ connotations over time. If we went back to the Latin meaning for every word in every language derived from it, some words wouldn’t make sense in the ways in which we currently use them. There is nuance and evolution to words/ language (especially within America) which I don’t think will be recognized in this conversation, so I’m just gonna dead it. I hope you have good day.

    People don’t understand that everybody is different despite being the same race.
    People (like my family) expect me to act a certain way because I’m Mexican. N I’m like no, I’m more mature than that, I’m not gonna cause a scene or act like a child and scream & cry over something so trivial.
    Yk like go ahead and cause a scene idc just don’t get me involved, or tell me how I should act because of my race.

    Beautiful nails. Everyone switches it up from time to time but I like many was taken aback hearing she didn’t want to look “Urban”. (Trying to add some wisdom about the last video) If the statement was “Let’s go for a country club look” “Let’s go Simple today” I don’t see why anyone would have been offended BUT “Not wanting to look Urban” was stated. Listening again it’s possible she meant Urban as in citified/ City Girl. many heard Urban as in relating to Black People. Always your choice for a style but I think people got Triggered hearing that word Urban(black aesthetics) & basically saying it didn’t belong at the Country Club. I wish that statement was elaborated on so no confusion was had. No one should dare be harassing Evie though.

Not forgetting to mention being a working mum with Littles! it's one thing to make TH-cam content , feed bubs & get back to it and quite another level of awesomeness to so so without missing a beat ..sure editing is a part of it, but I mean the whole feel, vibe and being able to make it look so effortless. Why can't she just be her bold self all the time? Does this mean she's ashamed to be black?" Then I thought about my own self. Of course I would change my style depending on the setting. I morph my style into whatever fits the mood. It's a natural human action to blend in with your peers. What a silly thing to try and tell someone otherwise

    I actually like it when you do simpler designs, it makes it feel like it's been simplified just for my dyslexic self. :D But I like it when you do intricate designs, because it genuinely fascinates me watching artists work. To me, that's what you are; An artist. As I understand it, artists' work usually aren't liked by people with sticks where they don't belong, (If you'll forgive that gross brain picture.) until they see that everyone else likes it, and jump on the bandwagon.
    Also, watching comment sections of various videos, I've noticed that some people simply don't feel any sort of validation unless they're telling other people what they're supposed to be doing, when, where, why and with whom. Or they think that validation will come from showing that they're offended by the current 'hot topic issues'. It's all so silly.
    You're wonderful. Be happy, be you, if you want to of course. ^_^ I'm not gonna be someone to tell you what to do. Just mostly sharing my own observations.
