    I'm a gel nail tech and you have done a fantastic job with these nails. Builder in a bottle isn't intended for long nails, it's for natural nail overlays and short extensions. You can't pick up a big enough bead of product to sculpt long nails. Also when you're curing the gel in the lamp you can just flash cure for 10-30 seconds between layers and then do a full cure at the end once you've done all the layers. I hope this helps if you ever decide to do gel again. X

      Plus she didn't float the layers. She brushed them on. She should have only brushed the slip layer.

      I lovvvve natural looking nails. I saw a tec using the builder in the bottle and her application was beautiful! So beautiful that I was like wow, I would love to do nails! But I don’t want to do the xxl nails. I really love natural short- med looking nails with an occasional abstract. Thanks for the tip!

    • @krislamotte100
      @krislamotte100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      @@Lastdayone typically a base coat is applied then you cure that. Then the next layer is the slip layer which should be pretty thin, the slip layer is NOT cured just yet. Because then you grab a larger bead and as Mackenzie said, you float the bead down the nail (from just above the cuticle to the free edge). Gel wants to flow towards gel., so having the non cured slip layer allows the the larger bead that you float down the nail to easily go where the gel is suppose to go and also creates little to no bubbles (with practice of course ;)). Every time you break the brush from the gel or brush in strokes like she was, the likelihood of bubbles goes wayyyy up! And I’m not criticizing how she did it at all cause she even said she hadn’t worked with gel in forever and plus I loveee her videos! I’m just a bit of a nail enthusiast so I’m into every which way nails can be done!lol if you want super detailed instructions on gel application you should check out Liz at The Nail hub! Hope that helps !

Forms are really difficult for builder gels in bottles because of how soft and runny they are. When I use them I only use tips/full coverage tips (for GelX-esque nails.) Forms are best used for harder gels, think IBD.

    I use the builder gel for when I use full coverage tips, to adhere and strengthen them. I’ve never tried building a full mail tho, you definitely showed why it’s a bit much to do so! I also like to use builder gel in a bottle to add stability to press ons if I want to wear them longer 🥰 I have build nails, but just the base, then I take the paper form off and put builder gel from a pot, a hard gel, or a polygel to build the structure. But the builder gel in a bottle has its uses and I like to use the colored ones under full coverage tips to camouflage my natural nails ☺️

      I came here to see if someone might comment on full tips.
      Do you use the builder gel to adhere your tips?
      I bought a rubber base builder gel and people are using it instead of glue.
      Besides a dehydrator and prepping the natural nail. Do I need a bonder or primer?
      I'm a newbie.
      Thank you!

      @@ajordan1976 Basically the builder gel in a bottle can be called a lot of things. Sometime the press on kits call them glue or rubber base too. Using a bonder/primer is always good to do with gel to prevent lifting, but it depends. My favorite educational channel for learning nail techniques is Nailcou here on TH-cam. She is a licensed nail tech from Russia who has hundreds of videos on every type of nail product and how to apply them the best way. But for me, I put some builder gel on the part of the tip that is going to be on my nail, gently place it on and wipe any gel that squeezed out, and cure it one nail at a time. JOUNAIL also does great videos where you can see this process, as well as Emily Susannah. The builder gel has to be cured, it doesn't air dry like glue but needs to be under a UV/LED light powerful enough to cure it. That's why using clear tips with clear builder gel is the best for curing as the light can get all the way through to cure it properly. Once my tip is on I make it the shape I want and buff the surface, then put another layer or two of builder gel on the tip, basically to build a structure, just like you would with acrylic or polygel. You need the nail to be thick enough in the center if your nails are longer to ensure they hold up and don't break or hurt your nails. So I put a layer of gel on and then just in the middle to build strength on the free edge and make the shape look better. Press ons are so great for when you don't want to sculpt a whole nail, but I do still like to give it a little more gel to make them harder, this way they last longer and won't get dented or chipped. The Kiara Sky tips and those like it are made of gel, so they are unique in that they are as strong as gel. But I prefer not to spend as much to my tips are made of plastic. This means they aren't as strong and might be a little thin. The builder gel makes it so you can use even the cheapest of tips and just make them as strong as you like! I hope this helped! TH-cam is an amazing resource, but practice makes perfect! Be gentle with your nails, I was a bit over zealous at first, but I feel if you watch a few videos and maybe practice a few times, you'll have it down in no time! And have beautiful nails, my favorite part! :)

    • @LovelyDollyDays
      @LovelyDollyDays 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ajordan1976 Oh! And also two biggest things I did wrong at first: not prepping my natural nail by getting rid of all the cuticle and oil, and getting product on the skin or under the cuticle. It is difficult but with the tips its a bit easier to leave a little gap between the cuticle and the nail tip, that way you have room to file the edge of the tip a little or just fill it in with the builder gel. Keeping a gap at the cuticle is really important if you want to maintain adhesion to the nail itself and not let any moisture in to allow them to lift. Its hard to get down but with practice it gets easier! I just try to have fun and give myself time. Now I build the nails in one sitting and then decorate them in another so I don't find myself getting a stiff back hunching over my nails trying to make them perfect! A liner brush with some alcohol will help take off any product if you get it on your skin or cuticle. I just check before I put into the lamp, because I have cures nails on crooked and that is so frustrating! Have fun with your nails! :) It was sweet of you to ask me!

    I love doing builder in a bottle I only use builder in a bottle only for forming short nails on a paper form cuz the way my patience is set up I cannot do them long. 🙄😂 And yes if using gel on a paper form my eyes start to go wonky after so long lol which is why don’t do them as much as I used to. Sorry to say but you didn't get the "good advise" here and I don't mean that in a bad way. You definitely should not try to use it like a gel polish, try to pick up enough (kinda lots) of product and swipe it from one side to the other while moving down, so left right left right left right. NOT like she did like you would do a gel polish.

    What you should have done is cleanse the sticky layer after applying the clear, and then filed everything back into the shape you wanted. It's easier to do that as a novice with gel, than doing it the way you did. You'd have gotten better results with the shape. Also, next time, try putting your biab in the fridge until you want to use it. It'll get really thick and won't run as much.

      @@msgenevajb no problem. This technique also works with acrylic monomer as well. I've even seen people put a small dappen dish or jar, inside a larger bowl with water in, and then freeze it. Useful during the hot summer months, as it keeps the liquid cool so it stops the acrylic setting too fast. 😎

    I actually started to do my nails with hard gel and since I made my first set the lady who owns a nail & tanning salon with a solarium (tanning booth) where I go try to solicit me to work for her, she tries every time I go there for years, she always says it's so hard to find good nail artists and she said my nails always look like I just have it in my blood and was actually ment to do nails. I do hard gel, acrylic and polygel on myself, friends and family. With hard gel you just have to mostly got the beautiful form right while you apply it, it's not really working with the "filing and shaping" like with polygel and acrylic where you can just make an "ugly" nail and file it into a beautiful nail. Also you can't apply hard gel just like you would apply a gel polish, lol, it won't work that way. By the way hard gel is what is mostly used here in nail salons in Vienna /Austria.

    i love your content! i am russian and here we mostly use builder gels, not acrylics. I have been getting it done for almost 10 years now and they never break or lift, so as long as you're using high quality materials it's a great alternative. one tip that I have is when you apply each layer of gel, it is a good idea to turn your hand/finger upside down and hold it horizontally to let it self-level with your nail - then straight into the lamp. will cut down filing time and lessen the running of the gel on the sides, helps with structure! :)
