I love this channel so much. Thanks for sharing your love of whiskey with me. I’m envious of Trent’s relationship with his pops. Please recognize how amazing this is, young man.
ER10 is $70 here in Western NY. BT is $45. The other day I walked into a small store just to see what they had - they had sh*t and it was all overpriced AF, but the kid behind the counter saw me looking at the bourbon, so he pulled out a hidden bottle of BT and tried to sell it to me for $64.99 LMAO. I'm not a plumber, but that's some sh*t right there.
I got a standard bottle of Eagle rare 10 year and it’s fine, just fine. Nothing special and definitely not worth all the crazy hype. Good value for $35 and under though.
My wife and I are fortunate in that we live within reasonable driving distance from BTAC. I have three bottles from different 'barrels' of Eagle Rare in my collection and I can certainly attest that one of the bottles tastes significantly better than the other two. My original bottle was a shelf pick from a local store, cost me $70 at the time and was absolutely delicious. My other two were purchased from the distillery, cost me $45 ea and were similar to the two that came in 2nd and 3rd in this tasting. I have yet to have one that didnt taste like anything like the 4th place bottle. I will continue to drive to the distillery every 90 days to get my allotment of Eagle Rare I like it that much. Love your videos. due to your distance and state difference I find I cannot get some of the assortment you guys can but your videos are entertaining and I love the banter. Keep up the good work.
Eagle Rare is good, but it never blew me away. Used to buy it all the time for around $36-$40. I haven't see one in years in the Chicagoland area. My buddy who is a big fan of it just found a bottle in Las Vegas for $75 and brought it back in his luggage.
Great review. I have only had a couple of bottles of Eagle Rare and both were very good. Grape was the predominant note for both. I have been looking for a store pick for some time thinking they would always be way better. Now not so much. Thanks
Eagle Rare was my gateway bourbon when I was a poor student in college and splurged. When you could get it for $25-30. I think it’s still worth about that, but not much more than that.
Also if I’m not mistaken ER and BT picks are done at barrel proof then taken down to 90 before they’re bottled and sent out. Could be why you get those weird bad ones.
They proof it to 90 when you taste it. But they let us try it straight out of the barrel when we asked. I got to do an ER and BT pick a few years ago. Had a choice of 3 barrels each.
Great channel and great reviews! We appreciate what you both do. Eagle Rare is a excellent bourbon that you don't have to over pay for from Buffalo Trace. We see it around the $45 - $50.00 dollars a bottle in Georgia. I think it is one of the best 90 proof bourbons available on the market for the money.
It's true. I'm in Georgia too and can go right now where I know they have it on the shelf for $42 right now. Just bought another one on Monday. It's the store picks I would like to find.
Great video, keep up the great content, you two are great. I just picked up my first Eagle Rare and while it is somewhat difficult to find here in Oregon, I only paid $39, not too bad. I am a newbie Bourbon/Whiskey drinker, so much like you starting out Kurt, I still lean towards something sweet. I'm kind of enjoying the Knob Creek Smoked Maple, maybe a flavored review is in order for us "Youngsters".
Love your show. Thanks for all the reviews. I just polished off an ER last night and came to the same conclusion. Just not all that interesting. It’s $40-$43 in N GA and pretty easy to find. Thanks to you two I now maintain over 60 different bourbons and ryes in my collection. For the money I think I’d rather get a Green River or Makers Cask Strength over an ER.
Any pointers on where you find it? I got a bottle from Village Spirits in Flowery Branch but I'm a bit further west and rather not make that commute if I don't need to.
At MSRP it's always a buy. When I first got into Bourbon 7-8 years ago it was my go to buy since having hundreds of other bottles it's just another decent pour. I always have a couple bottles on hand and sip it occasionally. I mainly use it for a gateway pour for newbies now. Plenty of other $30-$40 bottles out there I would rather sip.
Eagle rare used to be labeled a Single barrel but when BTD added it to their automated bottling line they removed it from the label due to the small amount of mingling of barrels when they add another barrel to the bottling vat/hopper in the bottling line.
Yup I still have 2 empty bottles of it from a decade ago...nice big 'single barrel' label on the front and the '10 year' age statement labeled up by the cap/cork
Guys, Eagle Rare is as close to a single barrel without being a single barrel. The only reason they took the single barrel label off of Eagle Rare is because the way their bottling machine works, for Eagle Rare specifically (don't know why they changed this... Maybe just to get more volume out), you may get the end of one barrel and the start of another in a bottle. Most bottles are single barrels, but they can't put it on the label, since the bottling process is now automated.
From what I have heard over the years, multiple times, the barrels are dumped individually during bottling, so for the most part, it for all intents and purposes, you are getting juice from one barrel. Of course, the ending of one barrel and the dumping of the next, overlap, but it's not a batch of X amount of barrels dumped into a vat and then bottled.
It is a shame that prices have shot up so much lately due to inflation and the whiskey bubble - but, I absolutely stand behind Eagle Rare all the way. It just hits all the right notes at a great value point, in my book.
Enjoy your comments. Any Bourbon is worth the price if you like it!. Ancient Age from Buffalo Trace is the best they have penny for penny. Back before the Bourbon explosion, they had Ancient Ancient Age 10 year! $14.95 at. BINNY'sS. Maker's Mark Barrel Proof *36.95 at BINNY'S. Anything from Jim Beam. My favorites!
Love Eagle Rare. Mad that here in UK, ER and BT are easily available at £30 and £18. It's great that you show that store picks can be hit or miss. I once paid double for a BT pick and even with 5% extra proof, barely noticed difference.
The first ER I ever had tasted like candied oak. I was transported to candy land and took a big ol’ bite out of one of the oak trees. The sugary bark disintegrated in my mouth as it dripped with maple syrup. I’ve enjoyed every bottle I’ve acquired, some more than others, but I’m still chasing that first one!
Thats Awesome, I did a similar blind, different store picks of course, and the standard eagle rare won for me too. Also did one with buffalo trace store picks and same result. thanks for the validation...lol!
Most stores in my area sell this for 100 bucks on their little allocated shelf, but one of the stores in my company sells it for 60, but the trade-off is we don't get it in nearly as much as the bigger stores in the area. I don't mind occasionally dropping 60 bucks on this. It's by far not the worst deal for an allocated bourbon. And i do love a brown sugar cherry bomb
I’ve recently got into bourbon. I’m happy to be able to get eagle rare for 35$. It’s a great great value bourbon at that price, and I’m happy that it was one of my first bourbons
I have found that Eagle Rare varies so much bottle to bottle. I have had some incredible bottles and some really not great ones. I think that's why its such a debated bottle of Bourbon.
Wow... Didn't know you guys are close by me.... I remember I use to see plenty of those bottles before 2020 at $35 in a liqour store in Little Village..its all gone now... Then Seen one in 3 years last week but it was $59 at famous liqours by Forest Park.. I passed on it
I know I'm in the minority but I can't stand this stuff. I don't get what is so great about this one. Taste like saw dust and bitter to me. Never got cherries. Very disappointing
Great job Gentleman. Please keep the Glen’s on the bar top when sampling. Enjoy seeing the juice in the glass. Thank you for all your time and efforts with the weekly content. Cheers.
I can find this time to time at under $40 so I buy a bottle every time I come across it. I did pick up a store pick recently for $70 but haven’t opened it yet. They are well worth the money to me.
I always thought that Eagle Rare was pretty good for the cost. The last bottle cost me $55 and I could find it without trying. Now well it is north of that price a harder to find. I don't think I'll be looking for it that hard. There are several great bourbons for less.
up in canada here, normally eagle rare up here is between 70 and 100 bucks(Canadian)my bottle has a cocoa smell with a slight citrus twank that is sweet, always a good pour, keep up the solid work guys
Grabbed one for $69.99 in southern KY, $10-$30 less than I’ve seen them around Knoxville, TN and the store had 6-8 bottles and a bunch of EH Taylor and Blantons @ $109.
Lol on D; I’m wondering if someone has been dipping in the bottle. Maybe replaced with the brown mouthwash. For me I was able to buy a bevmax store pick for $40.
I was fortunate to get a 10 year ER the price was definitely more than I would usually spend and after having it for 8 months and tasting it off and on over that time I wish I hadn't spent the $$ I did and stuck to my search for bourbon whiskey's under $50! I have found many many bourbon whiskey's in my search price range that are so much better than ER! I share my good with friends I share my ER with people that are acquaintances! they are more impressed with the name ER than the actual taste!
Eagle Rare tastes interesting, but it's not really my jam. Having your whiskey taste like grape nerds is fun and all, but I'd much rather have a whiskey with more traditional flavors.
I feel the need to add, I fell in love with bourbon again back long enough ago when the proof was at least 100. A victim of tasteful sipping and word of mouth to become an allocated bourbon once every 4 days or so at the Buffalo Trace distillery
Absolutely love yalls show and love that the “reg” ER won. I just hate that Trent’s underarm didn’t itch in this episode…. Maybe y’all can get a sponsorship from Benadryl for his “itch”. I’ll take 10% for the recommend. #noaffiliationtobenadryl
When its available its $38 where I'm at, and I always buy it when I see it. I found a couple store picks that were $55 and I hated paying that for them, but holy smokes they were delicious.
wow! I saw it at a bar once so I decided to overpay and get a 2oz pour for $22. I really liked it but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a bottle and I wouldn't buy a bar pour again@@80thdiv313fa
Its nice to know you guys are in Illinois or im assuming if you were talking about midway and cicero. At least I now know prices are the same as what you guys are saying. I just started getting into whiskey and bourbon, never really drank before and its kind of a cool hobby in a way. Got some cheaper whiskey to try and enjoyed it, just picked up a double oak woodford off your recommendation and I love it, the smell is exactly like you guys describe and tastes wonderfull.
Found one earlier this year setting on shelf after a delivery without a price marking yet. Took it up to manager/owner who was working the register asked what was he selling it for, looked down his MSRP I think it was mid $40, so I bought it. Still setting on my shelf unopened waiting for what? I don’t know. It’s only the second ER I have seen on a shelf. Hopefully it’s better than just brown water. Great video as usual!
I don’t understand why Eagle Rare has so much bottle drift. The blender should be making sure the shelf versions taste the same. I have 3 shelf bottle that are all different (and a store pick that of course taste different also). I wonder if BT changed something when they updated the logo/label on the bottle.
When I did the tour at BT they told us that all ER is single barrel they just can't call it that because they don't clean the lines out between barrels.
That is too funny on the Binnys pick. I've had an Eagle Rare pick from Colorado that had a mouthwash note...very off-putting. I am glad to hear I am not crazy 😂
I always buy one (at MSRP only) when I have the opportunity but like Kurt, I usually dole it our to friends who can't find it. It's still around $40 in Texas when you can find it. I think Kurt has the "honey hole" bottle, LOL!! Trenton, I can't even on the "asphalty snow" comment! 😋
Fun fact... In England Amazon will ship Eagle rare to your door around MSRP free shipping. I never see it on the shelves here, but can get it delivered whenever I want over there.
The worst bottle i have bought...i paid $49us on 4th of July..2019...i can buy a liter of WT101 for $24us... I gave it to lady who was trying to open a bar... Buffalo trace is almost as bad...worst and to think I thought the Eagle was a great 4 of July theme... Garbage.. It did help me to switch to single malts
I feel sorry for you. For me it’s Maker’s Mark. I kind of get along with the regular one but 46 and 101 taste‘s like brown ethanol to me unfortunately.
Not sure if things have changed in the bottling process, but aren't most Eagle Rare bottles single barrels? I was under the impression that they dump 1 barrel at a time for bottling, but the last line of bottles that aren't filled to the top will get bourbon from the next barrel dumped as well. Has that process changed?
That is my understanding as well. All ER is basically single barrel. They just don't flush the equipment between bottles so they can't technically call it a single barrel.
They changed the single barrel 10 year, to a 10 year. That means the mix at barrels of 10 years or less. I don't think bottles say single barrel anymore.
@josegr9280 they don't say SiB any more because of the bottling method they couldn't call it a SiB any longer since a handful of bottles would have the contents of 2 barrels.
Great video. I have seen blinds with Eagle Rare that suggested that it was ok and not great. I like that this video highlights that, yes, some bottles are meh but others are very good. Crazy that there would be so much variation. Living in Texas, I typically don't see Buffalo Trace products on the shelves. I would be tempted to grab an Eagle Rare if I saw one, but it seems to be a bit of a roll of the dice.
Around me, also in Texas, I see Buffalo trace on the shelves for a little bit after they drop, but they do sell out. Eagle Rare is something you have to get on a list to buy. Buffalo Trace recently dropped and I’ve been seeing it all over the place. I was just in the DFW area and have been seeing it around lately, picked up a big bottle for $32 a few days ago.
@adamr9215 Yes, I was at T.W. the other night. The bourbon guy there said that they had gotten an E.R. drop recently, but it disappeared quickly. My timing must be bad, I never see it.
@@davidrenner6112 Most places have a list for Eagle Rare, so you won’t even hear about it if you aren’t on the list. I do better in smaller towns at little hole in the wall places. I don’t even look for Eagle Rare because I bought a couple cases from a small store in Oklahoma, so I’m set for a while. Buffalo Trace I see fairly often. There is a place on 67 south of Dallas, just north of Venus, that has a good selection. They just mark up the stuff they know is rare. The big liquor store in Alvarado used to have a “owners personal collection” that was well stocked but very over priced. If you want Eagle Rare and don’t mind paying a little extra, the Wooden Cork usually has it for $60ish, or in bundles with other bottles for not too horrible prices. I think it was Two Bucks in Fort Worth that wanted $200 for a bottle of ER, so Wooden Cork beat them by a lot.
ER is my go to bourbon. Open a new bottle and I have never been impressed. Open it, and get some air in the bottle for a month or six and it really shines and is to me the best. A old half full bottle is best in my opinion
Eagle rare to me definitely has a different taste..I like it neat. I see people use it in cocktails ( I think that’s weird) I wouldn’t pay more then 50 for it.. it’s GOOD and definitely a different taste for sure..I don’t love it tho
No, move along...lol but seriously my wife blinded me on Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare and 1792 to see what I would pick as the best profile that I enjoy. I thought I would pick Eagle Rare...I picked 1792...
I’m an Eagle fan. But 65-75 in southeast Michigan is a bit much. Damn distributors and the state for that matter. Sucks I can’t order a particular booze online.
Am I the only one thinks the one bottle looks like it has a giant Russell cork in it? Love your content, keep up the good work.
Before I read this comment I was wondering why it had a big white stopper on it😂😂
I think it just has the silver wrapper completely removed.
😂 yup!
I will never unsee that now 😂

Agreed. I wish I could do this with my father.
Great partner in crime 😂
Trenton’s dedication to expanding his taste profile is remarkable. Caked on road snow haha.

So funny this video dropped today, I was able to get an eagle rare store pick today in MN, and the price was only $37.99!!
Eagle Rare, is by far my favorite from the entire Buffalo Trace Distillery. 🥃
But y tho
Why?
To each their own.
There is no Eagle Rare to be found anywhere here in NE. Indiana. I has a sad.
You can never go wrong with a shelfer eagle rare
Plot twist, it’s actually Friday morning before 8am 😂😂😂
Do you think Trent has it planned out, or just makes it up as he goes?
Eagle Rare tastes interesting, but it's not really my jam. Having your whiskey taste like grape nerds is fun and all, but I'd much rather have a whiskey with more traditional flavors.
I feel the need to add, I fell in love with bourbon again back long enough ago when the proof was at least 100. A victim of tasteful sipping and word of mouth to become an allocated bourbon once every 4 days or so at the Buffalo Trace distillery
I'd be interested to see a blind with all of the "entry level" buffo trace stuff. BT, ER, Weller SR, Blantons, EH Taylor etc... that kind of thing!
Absolutely love yalls show and love that the “reg” ER won. I just hate that Trent’s underarm didn’t itch in this episode…. Maybe y’all can get a sponsorship from Benadryl for his “itch”. I’ll take 10% for the recommend.

When its available its $38 where I'm at, and I always buy it when I see it. I found a couple store picks that were $55 and I hated paying that for them, but holy smokes they were delicious.
I'd love to see Eagle Rare on a shelf just one time ever in my life.
I’ve seen it once…they wanted $190 for it…nope!
wow! I saw it at a bar once so I decided to overpay and get a 2oz pour for $22. I really liked it but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a bottle and I wouldn't buy a bar pour again@@80thdiv313fa
@@80thdiv313fa😳 Yikes... Where do y'all live?
$190, man that's just terrible. That's some owner just holding out for someone desperate enough or it's someone's idea of a joke
I saw it today for $90, I passed
I’m getting that, “snow under your car fender after they’ve salted the roads” note here…
Still getting it regularly here in CA for $33-$37, needless to say I am stocking up.
where? I live in san diego and cant find it under $80

I noticed that too!
I purchased a bottle of Eagle Rare about a year ago and I found it lackluster at best.
What it tells you you is that the quality of Eagle rare is down the hill over years..
How many bottles can you get out of a barrel? Wish we could find eagle rare up around Northern Indiana.
In defense of Kenwood, perhaps this was the best among the group. As I’m typing, Trenton is saying the same lol
Fun fact... In England Amazon will ship Eagle rare to your door around MSRP free shipping. I never see it on the shelves here, but can get it delivered whenever I want over there.
Big Tesco's have it quite often, Waitrose too
Must be nice
Same in Germany.
Wt101 is so much better imo
I buy ER when ever I see it. I have 2 store picks and a couple of off the shelves. My store picks have been great.
$34 in the military base exchanges, no sales tax. IF you can find it.. It goes very quickly.
Came here to say this!
They changed the single barrel 10 year, to a 10 year. That means the mix at barrels of 10 years or less. I don't think bottles say single barrel anymore.
That was actually shown to be false
Im tired of chasing unicorns. Just get any ten year bourbon you can get
You can thank these TH-cam types. They overhype most "special bourbon". Then the stores know to jack their prices up b/c the FOMO is there.
ER is my go to bourbon. Open a new bottle and I have never been impressed. Open it, and get some air in the bottle for a month or six and it really shines and is to me the best. A old half full bottle is best in my opinion
I've only come across one and its like sniffing Grape Nehi...I love it
Maybe they would open up like your bottle in the 2 year period ?
I personally like Eagle Rare and it was 31.99 a bottle pre pandemic and now if you can find a bottle it's 35.99 here in Michigan at my local store .
What store is that? Mine has been taxing!
Answer: YES! A 10 year old bourbon is worth $35.
ER is my go to primer before I sip the higher proof bottles and those store picks 👌🏻
Eagle rare to me definitely has a different taste..I like it neat. I see people use it in cocktails ( I think that’s weird) I wouldn’t pay more then 50 for it.. it’s GOOD and definitely a different taste for sure..I don’t love it tho
Just missed my chance to preorder a store pick for $55 😢
Call me crazy but I prefer regular Buffalo Trace to Eagle Rare.
You aren't crazy. I do like BT but ER is way better
ER is best bourbon for MSRP price in my opinion. Can you redo an old school ranking of Buffalo trace, OF, or knob creek?
it's a shame they waste such good old bourbon proofing it down to nothing
here in California get it all day long 45 bucks great whiskey for the price and when blinded spanks a lot of the more Uber allocated bourbons
I love eagle rare! Really good bourbon.
After trying the new Elijah Craig c batch and four roses single barrel, I don’t care much for eagle rare
MSRP is still in the 30's in Denver. I picked up a few stores picks recently for $35.
