    “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute.”
    ~ George Orwell

      Also the methods used by the socialists and communists to erase the past so they can replace it with their (non-functional) utopia.

    Hang on, someone out there thinks that the city of Berkeley espouses racial justice? You apparently have never been to Berkeley....

    Berkeley?
    America as a whole has horrible history. The entire county from end to end.

    I swear if the Native Americans came to Berkeley and demanded that they should all leave and give back the land or face being called “racist” the UC Berkeley students would actually accept accountability for something they had no involvement in and leave.

      People do this all the time everywhere in the world. There are towns like mata judíos in Spain. Clearly it’s not okay to call that.

    Seems like stoking controversy when there is none. Berkeley should be proud of what it is and what it wants to be in the future. Speaking of controversy, what about all those potholes and the sad state of the streets in Berkeley?

    That young guy at the end made a good point. Its been over a hundred rears since GB was alive. Lots of things change meaning over time and to ignore that would be asinine. Instead of virtue signaling about the past focus on what you can do about tomorrow. As corny as that is its just the truth.

    Changing the name won’t do a thing. You’d be better off trying to figure out how to bring people together.

    I'd focus more on dense (affordable & market rate) housing and ending Redlining (founded in Berkeley) compared to changing name to a city

    Why is it not brought up that "indigenous people " had slaves too. Besides, the only culture that has ever denounced slavery is western European. If it wasn't for western culture slavery would more than likely still be a thing everywhere.

    Maybe they should change it to the city of Banko Brown just to feel good about themselves.

    They could do what Prince did and assign a symbol for the city, and then we will refer to it as the city formerly known as Berkeley!

    Maybe the city and university can make a generous donation to the reparations fund in order to clear their namesake's tie to slavery.

    • @Siouxsi-Sioux
      @Siouxsi-Sioux ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Reparations for what? Slavery was used in every country on earth at one time. Slaves because of their vulnerability not skin color. The Arab's have slaves today. The Arabic word for slave is the same word they use for blacks, " abeed". How much are they paying? The first slaves brought here were the Irish. What do they get? What about the blacks who owned slaves in America? Google Anthony Johnson, the first black slave owner. EDUCATE YOURSELF.
