      I thought student loan was a myth. The old man who gives 2/4 years scholarship to UCB from community college told me that first bachelor degree was free from financial aids(FAFSA) and cal grant by being independent. I was building up my letters of recommendation from computer science classes.

      Here is the real list:
      1). Berkley will print the name of their school on their degrees so that the rest of the world knows where and how those graduates were indoctrinated.
      2). It is an excellent school to learn how to become a far-left progressive liberal socialist
      3). You will learn how to get along well with a very small portion of the population and only that small population
      4). You will be intolerable to a majority of the population and spend most of your life and energy hating these people
      5). You will be taught what to think rather than how to think and might serve on the DNC to bring this slogan to their next convention.
      6). That little hate-baby in your soul will grow to be a mature and effective full grown hate wielding monster by the time you are released into society.
      7). You will learn more gender identities than your colleagues that did not attend a school that teaches you that this is one of the most important things to focus on.
      8). You will spend your life knowing that global warming is the biggest threat to the world and anything that resembles fact or truth will make you nauseated and trigger you.
      9). Being a loner, old, and fat with a lot of cats who will know how to properly hate Donald Trump....even if it means making shit up to support this will be a nice retirement.
      10). You will soon understand that Joe Biden is the greatest POTUS of all time.

    This is so well done! I love how you measure weather against a Southern California metric. It’s true it’s never freezing here but those truly warm days really only happen once in a while and usually early Autumn. I loved bearwalk as an undergraduate as another way to get across campus or nearby (bus or home). Such a useful video - nice work!

    Thoughts about these as someone who also went to Berkeley:
    CONS:
    1. This is highly dependent on the class and your motivation. If you're in a huge freshman math class or something, sure there's going to be a lot of people at office hours, but there's plenty of extra help and resources outside of the prof's office hours. It's not like you're really going to want a letter of rec from a generic class like this anyway. In upper division classes, it was very common for my professors to know me, as barely anyone goes to office hours. It's profs like this in more specialized classes in your major that you enjoy that you would want to write a letter of rec or make connections with anyway.
    2. This likely very dependent on your major. I'm in engineering and there was lots of research opportunities. You could easily talk to professors about their research and ask to join their lab. Of course, it's not guaranteed your first choice will say yes, since some labs are too advanced for undergrads or are just really full but there are definitely enough options to find something no problem. I'm guessing premed is harder, I just wanted people to know it's not necessarily the same for everyone.
    3. Agreed
    4. True, it's definitely not the safest, but there's free night safety shuttles so you certainly don't have to uber home. I went 5 years without encountering any crime personally, so it's definitely not just inevitable.
    4.5. Very true, it's a struggle for everyone
    5. There are lots of business and CS clubs like this, but outside of that it's much more relaxed. If you don't want to surround yourself with these type of people, it's very easy to stay away from them. If you're looking for clubs for the actual sake of meeting new people and having fun, you'll find a much more wholesome chill atmosphere than if you're just looking for clubs to get some kind of networking advantage. And simply by the nature of meeting people, I'm sure you'll make some meaningful and helpful connections.
    I agree with most of the pros. I love that people don't really care what you look like. And that doesn't mean everyone is just lazy, but rather they're much more willing to be different rather than basic. While these types of people surely exist everywhere, I feel like there's generally less fake, self absorbed people than other places, especially compared to LA. It might feel competitive if you're premed or business (which is probably true everywhere), but this girl is both and even she said it's not that bad. I personally never experienced people being competitive, rather the opposite, everyone felt like they were struggling and we could kind of bond over that and go through it together. Although I disagree that campus is easy to get around. It's quite hilly and that can definitely make it a struggle and rule out biking/skating for many people. But it is nicely located near tons of restaurants, bars, etc so you definitely won't need a car which is nice. Plus I just love the city along with Oakland and SF, there's plenty to do and easy enough to get around.

    As a current Berkeley student I disagree with the amount of research opportunities. Coming from a community college I feel blessed and overwhelmed by all the opportunities. And even though the homelessness situation is unfortunate, it’s better than living in a bubble in my opinion.

    • @laughter95
      @laughter95 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Taxes are high and all the NIMBY tech CEOs are living in $3MM homes in the hills behind gates. They preach about diversity and inclusion yet everyone at UCB is Asian. With all that tax money you'd think they'd do something about the hobos and crime but I guess that'd be violence.

    • @GeoFreako
      @GeoFreako 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@laughter95 The lack of diversity, is not the fault of the city nor the university- in the 1990s affirmative action was ruled out in California, which has been the greatest cause for the lack of racial diversity. UCB being a state school has to abide to state laws. That being said I do agree that Berkeley/SF residents and gov't regard the homelessness situation as "it is what it is" rather than actively doing something about it.

Make sure to utilize office hours with GSI (grad student instructors), and also dont be afraid to go to the student learning center! And, just vocalize to the professor when you are struggling! YOU are going to be great! Stop listening to other people and you'll take on the challenge on your own when and if it comes. I'd also like to hear what other English/Literature students have to say about admissions at UCB. It's obviously a selective school but I'm curious to see if it's as hard to get into as a liberal arts major compared to a STEM major like (let's say) computer science. Best of luck with your applications!

      Hanon Choi hi! Congrats! Safety is def a big issue here. In terms of homeless population & local violence, I would just say be extra careful. I always have pepper spray on me and I try to Uber or have friends walk me home after sunset. I try to not listen to music while I walk LOL yea but anything can happen even in daylight. Also, avoid doing work in certain cafes that are known to just have people take and run with your stuff.

    As a Berkeley alum (who was in a large major), I can say that a lot of these negatives are NOT true. It is NOT hard to get close to professors if you put in some effort. It's also not super difficult to get research opportunities! Sure, you are going to start out doing some grunt work like lab cleaning, etc. until you show that you are responsible and committed. Of course, no one is going to take you in and let you do your own research from the get-go and you should not expect them to. You need to learn the ropes and prove yourself, just like at any other job. The weather is gloomy, but if you are going to be deciding to live somewhere for 4 years, you should probably do the research on things like the weather before you move there. Finally, while Berkeley can be unsafe at times, the campus does have many resources to keep students safe at night, such as BearWALK (where a representative from campus safety services walks you home), night shuttles, etc. All of those resources are free to students. As long as you keep your smarts about you and don't walk alone in dark areas in the middle of the night, you should be fine. If you feel unsafe, use one of the aforementioned resources.

      Nah fam if you're making people pay insane tuition to attend a college, they have every right to research opportunities. Just because it was a breeze for you, doesn't mean it will be for everyone else. As far as the location, you are a tall athletic looking man. You couldn't possibly understand how concerning it might be for a small female student to attend the school, and it is a completely valid point to make, that the school is in a concerningly sketchy location. Sure, there are free resources available but that doesn't change the fact that the area is unsafe in general

    • @alexis8488
      @alexis8488 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      hi! i couldn't help but respond! not at all!!! honestly, it's really not that rainy or gloomy in my opinion sure you'll see fog because the bay is just lower so we are more susceptible to fog which normally clears up by noon haha. Rent is 100% approachable you just need to give yourself time and find what location really fits best for you! Crime alerts can be really scary but most college's struggle with things similar to this soo it's kind of an issue that's unavoidable occasionally maybe it's a bit heightened in Berk but I haven't seen it as a massive issue! hope this helped

    I'd like you to make a video about scholarships.
    I am thinking of going there, but I think I need a scholarship.
    Thanks

    I real dislike uc berkeley, I feel that people are rude and unfriendly. It was a disgraceful for me when I tried to pay a visit for the campus. I prefer UCLA or CSUs.

      Jason Lou I’m sorry you didn’t have a great time! From my experience, people have been generally friendly both students and strangers.

      @@AngelicaSong It's all right. Some students who transferred from community college are not that good. Maybe Freshman are different. I am in csuci now, It's a happy campus and only 45 minutes drive to Los Angeles. I have one year left until graduation.

      Idk when I went to Berkeley I got a completely different reaction! It was UCLA where I felt pretty unwelcomed like people could care less about prospective students. I have a few friends who are at UCLA rn but other than them that was it. I should also mention UCLA rejected me but Berkeley accepted me lmao

      @@dracokitty123 Really? I think UCLA has better environment for social and friendly people. That's a good school. They send some UCLA professors to csuci, and they provide good classes and nice grading policies. Also, there are some beautiful girls in UCLA too. Berkeley was mess up since 2017, even worse, people intend to smash your car or yell at you. It was a disaster for me when I paid a visit for the campus. And this year, they got fight in Berkeley. Remember Hayden Williams? He's got assaulted in UC berkeley. You can disagree with people but never punch on their face unless they invade your privacy.

    It’s my first time attending Berkeley, and I’m going to Summer sessions. My prof requests a course reader, but what is a course reader, and is it a pain to obtain if you can’t get it online?

      justin t it’s usually a paper workbook! It’s sold at local copy stores/book stores on Bancroft (street in front of campus). So once you get on campus, maybe the prof can tell you where specifically-but the main big ones should have most! Or email them! If you want to know exactly where beforehand.
