This is great advice, thank you! I'm not a trans woman, but transmasc/detrans woman. Although I love my beard, it does make me pass as male which isn't really what I want anymore. So sometimes I just want to be able to hide it to look more female. I first tried hiding my beard shadow 5 years ago and it did not go well. All I could find back then was one or two drag queens showing how they cake on layers of orange/red lipstick, concealer and heavy foundation. Doing that I felt like I was wearing a birthday cake on my face, and it did not look natural at all. This technique looks so much more promising! I knew it would be worth looking this up again, because a lot can be improved in the makeup market in 5 years.

* Really? My 5 o’clock Shadow occurred by 9 am. There was nothing like this during my Transition (1970s). Good that this is available for today’s Trans people. Thank you. *
It definitely is strange that it's called a '5 O'clock shadow' because it definitely shows up way sooner for most people, I believe! And as bad as the internet can be some times, it is also super helpful for everyone to share their resources of knowledge and experiences :)
Oh my gosh darling you made this look so easy! thank you so much! My partner is NB/Genderfluid and I'm not experienced at all in this particular area of makeup, so from me and my gorgeous spouse THANK YOU!💕🥰
Can’t express how grateful I am for this tutorial, it’s so hard to find good info out there! A cheeky request: *How would you adapt your ‘No-Makeup Makeup’ look for mtf?* So many mtf tutorials pile on makeup to no end, so a lighter alternative would be awesome!
Hi! There are honestly few changes to be made as far as adapting the look outside of if you need to cover a beard shadow. If that's the case, you will need to follow this tutorial along with it :)
Thank you, Melissa. I will file this one away under: good enough. For now. Just ordered it online but the local (cheap) stores use corrector and concealer interchangeably The packaging literally says concealer in 4 languages and corrector in 6 others. And the shade? Honey. It is not. No idea what I just used but the steps are similar. Luckily I have my mom's hair, that really makes up for a lot!
First timer here. Seems like a lot of stuff to know! Getting the right color without going to the stores in person seems like a daunting task. But great video. Will try my best 👌

I do also struggle with covering my 5 o'clock shadow because I have dark hair and even though I shave a close as I possibly can, it STILL shows through my makeup..... I will definitely buy the products that I'll need to cover my 5 o'clock shadow and I'll follow this tutorial the next time I put on makeup and I'll try these techniques. Again, BIG THANK YOU!! :)

Thank you so much for this! It was super informative and helpful I also really like your video style, part of why it's been hard for me to get into makeup has been because a lot of videos don't seem to be super beginner friendly (...even the ones meant for beginners,) but this was still educational without feeling like I was getting overwhelming amounts of information that I couldn't follow, easy and straight to the point!

My god, THANK YOU AND BLESS YOU!! This video was so amazing! Simple and straight to the point! I absolutely HATE HATE HATE all these long videos over complicating make up which makes them look so obvious that they're caked and looking like a complete and utter bimbo. They're not feminising at all and continue to reinforce this ridiculous idea of how a woman should "look like". Realistically NO ONE has that amount of time or patience to do all the contouring and bs for everyday use. Those things should be done for important events where you want to look your absolute best. I shared your video into my Transfem discord to spread the miracle
I love that you guys are doing mtf makeup. Would you consider making a tutorial for the opposite end to help someone masculinize their face without it being pounds and pounds of contouring makeup?
I'm asian and I dont have a beard except for thick dark hairs on my upper lip which you can see after shaving since my hair grows really fast. Thanks for this tutorial
Thanks for uploading. I’ve gotten into crossplay/crossdressing recently and will definitely be putting your techniques/guidance to use if masks aren’t mandated this year. Thank you very much🙏

Thanks for the video, it's really nice. Is it okay to apply foundation after this process?? Or should we do the foundation before doing the colour correction??
I have a shadow that is gray mixed in with some medium brown. My skin tone is fairly light. What color corrector should I try/use? Love your tutorials!
Hi Wendy! Great question. Honestly peach is most likely going to be a safe bet for you because the color peach also inherently contains the color pink (pink + yellow + white = peach), so it covers both bases. One thing to remember is that you could also test a few shades to see what gives you the best results because once you figure out the ideal corrector, it shouldn't change! Even if it's a slightly annoying process of trial and error at first, once you've got it dialed in you are good to go :)
Hi, Thank you for the video. I'm a AMAB queer person trying to get into some makeup and it's certainly intimidating, but I figured I'd use this social isolation time to practice. I'm goign to pick up soem products and give this a go, thank you so much

Thanks for the advice 😊 Do I apply the corrector, concealer then setting powder before applying another layer? My beard shadow is really thick in spots even after 8 laser sessions (4 consecutive thanks to lockdowns) lol mostly just around my lip is the biggest concern. I've tried pixi by Petra concealer with nyx foundation, and I get a little better using jecca blac corrector and concealer. 1 layer isn't quite enough it works but up close I can see the shadow. I will try layering a light coat and see what happens. The only pink/peach I could find at shoppers drug Mart from nyx is a light pinkish doesn't work as well.
Hi! Yes, you would definitely apply corrector, concealer, and powder to set before doing additional layers. Finding the right combination of products can be tricky at first, but once you discover the right amounts of everything and what works it becomes a formula you can repeat over and over again :)
Omg thanks so much for keeping it real. this trick is useful to everyone with unwanted beard shade! (Cis Women too) tried it and it just looks so much more natural and lightweight! The lipstick trick thing gave a weird cast of orange or pink on my face and left it thicker then the glaze on a birthday cake 🎂 😂
Aw thank you! Glad you found it helpful. Lemme know if there's anything else you'd like to learn!! I make content based directly off requests and questions :)
Hi Thank you for this tutorial. I have seen many videos on the same topic. But found your video to be more easy to understand. I think myself it might have been foundation orherwise he was using a hell of a lot of concealler lol.
I am not trans but I have been threading upper lips and that create a too dark shadow cant hide with make up. I have deep brown Indian skin. I wish I can meet with you to get exact help!
Hi, your lovely. I have a question, when I use the setting powder I look cacky. Is their a setting spray then can do the same job as the setting poweder?
Hi there! Sure! If you'd like to give setting spray a try, that could be a good option. I know a lot of people love the Urban Decay 'All Nighter', although I have not tried it myself. The only thing is that a powder will create the matte effect that visually makes the area look flatter/less bumpy, so keep in mind it won't have the exact same effect in that regard. Just another thought- more than anything, cakiness comes from too much product overall being used (rather than just the powder being to blame), so try to use a light hand and build everything up gradually if you can! Sometimes it's just about refining your technique with some practice.
I'm Trans and rn the only thing that keeps me going despite having a mustache is the word self-acceptance lol. I don't have super dark shadow but it's there 🤦🏻♀️ Btw, thanks for the tip! ^^

I am a female with hirsuitism due to pcos & shave my face bc of it, could i do the color correcting under my foundation? Or will the foundation cake where the setting powder is?
Yes you can do it under foundation!! I would allow it to dry down for a minute or two before foundation and make sure you pat the foundation on so as not to disturb the color corrector
@@TheMakeupByMelissaM I'm hoping you'll elaborate on this. I wear skin tints or medium coverage foundation at most. Do you not need the concealer on top of the corrector if you're using foundation, or would that only apply to a full coverage formula? I feel all of these layers will look very obviously caked on. Any tips would be appreciated.
Hello! Trans woman here. I was curious why you recommend to put on the full coverage foundation prior to the corrector and concealer? Most tutorials I've seen add the corrector, the concealer, and the foundation in that order. Why do you recommend doing it the other way?
Nice guide but the subjects beard shadows were not all that visible to begin with... I have a very pronounced beard shadow, and would've loved to see a video of you applying the expertise on that.
A problem I have is that from shaving my lower face just turns bright red, luckily besides the top lip and chin I don't really get much facial hair growth. And I'm struggling to find something that'll help cover it up.
One thing that could definitely help is using a soothing skincare product immediately after shaving, which will help calm down redness. Even a calming moisturizer for sensitive skin could help. Aside from that, redness can be addressed in the same way that this tutorial instructs, but you need either a yellow or green color corrector. Yellow will correct average redness, but if the skin is pretty angry go for the green! Just make sure you are applying a sheer (meaning you can still see through it) layer of the green especially, so it can easily be covered by putting your concealer on top.

I went out crossdressed this past Wednesday, I followed the tips in this vid to a T and my 5 o'clock had all but disappeared and it stayed that way four HOURS, the entire time I was out CD'd! Yayy! So again, thank you SO much for this! This is will now be part of my makeup routine. :)
OMG this is the easiest, simplest & quickest hassle-free super helpful tutorial I’ve ever seen on TH-cam so far. Plus I love you bc you’re amazingly talented, pretty and with incredible personality energy. I’m following you on Instagram & TikTok too 💜
Hi! I'm a trans woman and I've found your video really useful. I hope you can make some others because I don't have any experience in this field. Thank you very much, your video really made my day :)
Hey Sandra!! Thanks so much for watching. Are there any particular tutorials that would help you?? I make all my content based on everyone's requests. Also, if you are brand new to makeup, this little post I did on my site might help. The whole site should help you, really, so feel free to poke around and see if you can learn some other things there, too! www.theprettyfix.com/post/i-m-a-trans-woman-how-do-i-even-get-started-with-makeup
Trans woman are just men lol. More like how to tuck it properly lol
I’m just a dude who loves a clean shave but my 5o clock shadow fucked up my other wise perfect glass skin 😂 iv found using a foil shaver (Andis ts1) gets close as a safety razor shave but you can do it every day so that’s good!!
Then I use tone up sunscreen and then concealer over the shadow and it seems to work perfectly
Thank you for this! I’m refreshing my makeup knowledge for helping some new trans beans, there’s so many things I just do without thinking about why and this was a big help in getting me thinking about how we feminise a face again! 💜
Watched this because I wanted simple beginner answer and I got just that, thank you this has really helped me.
I'm transgender and can't help but say thank you, for being your beautiful self as well as taking the time to share. Wishing you n your's All the very best life has to offer.
Thank You
That has to be the best m2f makeup video out on TH-cam. I will be heading over to skim and scan your other videos to see if there is a video to feminize my face with the help of makeup. Thanks. :) After a very quick and easy search of your comprehensive list of videos on makeup I found exactly what I was looking for. The no makeup makeup look is what I am after and of course less is more.

Really?
My 5 o’clock Shadow occurred by 9 am.
There was nothing like this during my Transition (1970s).
Good that this is available for today’s Trans people. Thank you.
*
It definitely is strange that it's called a '5 O'clock shadow' because it definitely shows up way sooner for most people, I believe! And as bad as the internet can be some times, it is also super helpful for everyone to share their resources of knowledge and experiences :)
@@TheMakeupByMelissaM It's pretty much a 5 second shadow for me.
@@Rezkeshdadesh the color corrector will be your best friend then!!
A cheeky request: *How would you adapt your ‘No-Makeup Makeup’ look for mtf?*
So many mtf tutorials pile on makeup to no end, so a lighter alternative would be awesome!
Hi! There are honestly few changes to be made as far as adapting the look outside of if you need to cover a beard shadow. If that's the case, you will need to follow this tutorial along with it :)
@@TheMakeupByMelissaM thanks so much, Didn’t expect such a quick reply! 🥰
Hi, Melissa.
Not only your bits of advice are great, but your vibe is totally delightful 🙂 And, btw, what a great t-shirt! ❤ Cheers! 🥂
Thank you, Melissa. I will file this one away under: good enough. For now.
Just ordered it online but the local (cheap) stores use corrector and concealer interchangeably
The packaging literally says concealer in 4 languages and corrector in 6 others.
Will try my best 👌
not only trans woman have this issues im not a trans but in my family almost all the womans have to shave our chin and upper lips thanks for sharing this tips i cant wait to see my results
Thank you! I'm trying to help out my friend who recently came out, but she has a very comfy casual style and is fair with reddish facial hair, so most tutorials have not been helpful. Aside from the color correction issues you discussed, not everyone wants to go full glam.
You're so welcome! I have a lot of additional free makeup resources on my website also, which is www.theprettyfix.com if that might help them out!
Not even trans but I really hate how my five o clock shadow looks
Sameeeeee
same
Same I’m not trans but it’s annoying 😭💔

I know this was uploaded almost two years ago, but oh my GOSH, thank you SO much for this! I'm not trans, but I am a crossdresser and I do want to be as passable as possible when I go out in public CD'd. :)
...as a crossdresser I always carry my little battery shaver and moistreiser in my handbag, effectively shaving twice a day but beating the dreaded 5 o'clock shadow! 🌼🧸💕
Thank you so much for this! It was super informative and helpful
I also really like your video style, part of why it's been hard for me to get into makeup has been because a lot of videos don't seem to be super beginner friendly (...even the ones meant for beginners,) but this was still educational without feeling like I was getting overwhelming amounts of information that I couldn't follow, easy and straight to the point!
Thank you so much for taking the time to give me this feedback!!! I'm glad the video was helpful. If there are any other tutorials you'd like to see, please let me know because I make all my content based on requests of what everyone needs :)
NOTHING worked until I did this thanks so much
Love this!! :D
Thank you so much, Im safe to say you’re the voice of reason makeup wise, i stumbled across your channel and im LOVIN’ and excited to watch every single of your uploads.💋
Thanks so much for this kind comment! :) I don't create tutorials as frequently because I now teach a ton of makeup classes online. If you'd ever be interested in attending, right now during quarantine they are totally free! You can see what I have coming up at www.theprettyfix.com.
this is so helpful, thank you! my best friend and i are both nonbinary, but he's AMAB and prefers to present more feminine, so i'm going to use this technique to help him with his makeup tonight :)
Thank you so much. I really don't like how my shadow looks and it's been bumming me out a lot lately. I can't wait to try this.
in the process of finding the closest to these products in the UK amazon (i like in uk) :)
this seems like the most straight forward tutorial I've found so far so I'm going to give it a try!
WhiteKnight Integrity awesome! Let me know if you have any questions once you give it a go. Keep in mind sometimes more advanced techniques like this need to be practiced multiple times before you fully get the hang of it, but you’ll get it!!
This is totally what I needed. Yep, I'm an amateur. Yep, used too much the first time I tried it.
P.S. Sorry, I totally forgot to mention, this video was so awesome and informative! Thank you!!
Bookmarking to send the next time someone asks! Thank you
Thanks for uploading. I’ve gotten into crossplay/crossdressing recently and will definitely be putting your techniques/guidance to use if masks aren’t mandated this year. Thank you very much🙏
I’m a cis woman who gets chin whiskers. I’m undergoing electrolysis treatment, but I have to let the hair grow for treatment. This is very helpful
Thank you so much for this video! So many of the mtf makeup tutorial videos are sooooooo unhelpful and they always leave me feeling more stressed and clueless. Thsi is the first on Ive found after watching a dozen or so that actually broke down the information and made it easy and palpitatable for me :)
I'm so happy it was helpful!! I put out tons of makeup tips for transfeminine folks all week long on instagram that could be useful to you (if you have an account)! I'm @the_pretty_fix if you want to check it out

@@TheMakeupByMelissaM Great! Thank you!
Hi,
Thank you for the video. I'm a AMAB queer person trying to get into some makeup and it's certainly intimidating, but I figured I'd use this social isolation time to practice. I'm goign to pick up soem products and give this a go, thank you so much
Henry Crawford Hi Henry!! That’s a great idea. FYI I’m doing free makeup classes every Sunday during quarantine if you want to learn some other things! Ur awesome I was tryingto find something to do not use the lipstick. I’m gonna follow ur steps my shadow is so deep but I’m gonna try
would be nice if your model actually had a shadow
thank you so very much for the informative video. i'm going to practice implementing your instructions. also, u look stunning! hugs, riley
Ahh I wish u were my math teacher when i was in 9th grade ! God she explains so well
Aw thank you! Glad you found it helpful. Lemme know if there's anything else you'd like to learn!! I make content based directly off requests and questions :)
Hi Thank you for this tutorial. I have seen many videos on the same topic. But found your video to be more easy to understand. I used to put little concealer to hide my shadow and it use to work most of the time. But when I saw online video for drag, they use lots of makeup, which had made me little confuse. If possible can u do complete mtf makeup? Thank you again :)
Hi!! Thanks for watching :) I actually have an online class coming up 1/4/20 that goes into the complete basics of makeup (which includes a full makeup look). If you want to check it out, it's at the top of my website www.theprettyfix.com
This lady is so cool, I wish she was famous
I would believe this video a lot more if they showed it working on someone who has actual dark black hair still showing on their face like I do. The models in the video already didn’t look like they had any facial hair showing
I’m just a dude who loves a clean shave but my 5o clock shadow fucked up my other wise perfect glass skin 😂 iv found using a foil shaver (Andis ts1) gets close as a safety razor shave but you can do it every day so that’s good!!

Thank you so much ! I never had no one teach me !!
This was so helpful, thank you. I've really been struggling to hide the shadow.
I will rewatch this multiple times to fully understand
Thank you for this video! Does this technique work on arms, chest and knuckles too?
Thank you so much. I am a Trans Woman and this is so helpful. I usually just mouisturise and then but foundation and powder on. But ye I would still have some 5oclock Shadow so am so going to do this next time I do my make-up.
I have a question do. Would I shape/feminise my face before or after doing this?
I watched a video recently and he done it with two different colours but never explained if it was concealer or foundation that he was using. I think myself it might have been foundation orherwise he was using a hell of a lot of concealler lol.
I enjoyed ty. Yes, I will practice till I get it...
Grace St. James Sanders awesome! Let me know if you have any questions or issues as you’re trying! I can answer them for you :)
it was very helpful and you were so sweet and kind. Thank you so much 🥺❤️
I am not trans but I have been threading upper lips and that create a too dark shadow cant hide with make up.
I don't have super dark shadow but it's there 🤦🏻♀️
Btw, thanks for the tip! ^^
Thank you so much! Ive never been a fan of painting half of my face orange, now i can do it better!

Hi, great video. I have really pale skin with pure black beard hair. What colour corrector should I use?
What’s the Wave? Most likely your shadow comes through blue/grey in color, so look for a light peach!! :)
The Pretty Fix I thought you said blue grey is orange?
This is pure gold!!!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏Do you have any video for concealing MELASMA???
I HAVE textured skin with melasma with large pores.
You didn't reply 😞
That was really great. Im so excited to try it.
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you have any additional questions once you give it a go
Thank you so much for your amazing tutorials.
Best info I’ve found on the web. Thanks
I'm not trans, I'm a cis guy and I just hate that grey undertone that's left after a shave. Thanks allot!
Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any questions once you give it a try!!
Nice guide but the subjects beard shadows were not all that visible to begin with... I have a very pronounced beard shadow, and would've loved to see a video of you applying the expertise on that.
What are the products you used/ recommend?
this was so helpful, thanks a lot!
Should the concealer be full coverage ?
in my experience, if you have dark & thick facial hair that grows quickly, full coverage concealer might work better for you!
@@chadr1856 Thanks for the tip!
Just make sure you are applying a sheer (meaning you can still see through it) layer of the green especially, so it can easily be covered by putting your concealer on top.
having you have a dude do this was very helpful, thank you
Thank you for this! Really helpful!
