  • It's time to have THAT talk. You know... The Birds and the Bees! Haha! Shaun shows us how to clean out the chicken coop, including how to keep the hens out of his way, and how to prevent red mites. Colin checks on the bees after their first week in the new hives and shows you how to identify what's on the frames. Otis goes to the beach!

I am so chuffed about your bees!!! They are just taking off and they look so happy! They didn't pay any attention to you, which is such a great sign that they like you. They were just humming away so nicely! Your brood combs are looking healthy! Sooooo happy! You are a natural Colin!
Shaun, I know nothing about chickens but they look beautiful and I think it is adorable the way they follow you around! Elaine was gazing at you like she adores you when you guys were holding them. It was so sweet!

Fabulous video, thank you! Seeing Otis running up the beach made me wish my boy was still here, but I love seeing Otis’s enjoyment. BUT, the bees!! I was very interested, no idea why, but it grabbed me, last week when you were setting up the hives and introducing the nuclei; this week was WOW every few seconds and a big wish I could do that!! Only trouble?? Wouldn’t work in Wakefield city centre, in a flat!!! I need to win euro-millions tonight and live the dream. Enjoy guys, loved the video, as usual 😊

Love the vlog. I've never worked with bees before. It is really cool to see the hives in action. I keep chickens and I had to laugh because last week I didn't have enough straw so I put some pine shavings in the next boxes and the girls refused to use them. Picky bitches....

Oh my ! I started from south central. New York state to go to Savanah Georgia. Got half way there and my lungs quit. Ended up in a hospital in north Carolina intensive care for 3 days , 5 more in a bed till I could come home on oxygen 24/7. When the head of pulmonary came in to see me she said that most of the people she sees either worked in the mines but mostly in the local chicken barns. After finding out I lived out in the country she told me I could never be around any birds ever again. Everytime I see a homesteaders now without a mask cleaning out a chicken coop I get nervous for them. I had cleaned out large chicken barns for 4 years as a teenager. So now I will be worried about you..especially if you get pneumonia....stay safe.. many of my friends have bees, i can't, I am very reactive to stings, so I am envious. Got a few great ways to sell bees wax..love you both and Otis too XOXOX

When fall and winter arrive, you will see plenty of darkness. Light therapy lamps are bright lamps commonly used to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD), depression, and sleep disorders. The lamps are widely available, and you can use them at home: Simply turn on your light therapy lamp and sit near it for a set period of time (typically 15-60 minutes).

Feeling that Shaun pulled the shorter end of the straw with the coup, but I suppose somebody’s gotta do that too. Weird to see that you can even make mundane activities like these quite enjoyable in your videos (enjoying it as long as I am only a spectator sorry), really enjoyed it, thank you;)

The stars ✨ are definitely still in the sky. When I go to work at 04.45 every day there are plenty. This morning there was also a full moon 🌕. Looked lovely.
The close up shots of the bees 🐝 are really stunning
    Enjoy ya weekend
Going to be very hot 🥵 so keep ya clothes on Colin
    Take care
    Love Kim x x

The ears on the Otis-cam is probably the single most enjoyable thing I've seen in a long time.

Glad to see the mask while you’re mucking out. That dust is dangerous.

O M G - I just love the bee and chicken video. Just watching how you go about and the pointing out of the hive was great. The chickens playing follow the leader with Shaun was the best thing ever!!! LOL. Where do you get the sawdust? Is the chicken mucking out stuff good for the garden? Answer in the next diy video? You guys must stay very busy taking care of everything. Oh, and yes, thank you ever so much for the adorable video of Otis romping about.

My goodness, you guys are becoming quite the farmers. Chickens, sheep, bees. Now it is time to get ready to add a garden next year. Talk about going off grid. You guys are truly great and I so enjoy living through your adventures! Otis is a happy little guy. Give his ears a couple of scratches for me. Looking forward to next time !

Loved the “holes in box comment” Colin!😂. Your footage and explanation of the hive was brilliant...first time I’ve ever seen a queen bee.

Sean your like Dr Doolittle talking to the animals. Colin I love the bee hives and you are so caring having the frames spaced out so bees do not get crushed. It's lovely to see a conscientious bee keeper. You both suit the farming life. Take care my lovlies ❤ and keep safe. ❤

I chuckled at this one, bee-fore you two, went dog racing on the sands !
Loved the way that Shaun has trained "HIS" chickens to follow him, eggsactly !
The bees seem to bee doing very well !
I presume that the bees must be all male with the swaggering Queen wandering amongst her admirers !
Looking forward to seeing the progression throughout the rest of the year, and hope that the bees can collect enough pollen, to see them through the winter !
    Take care, stay safe !

My chickens were trained to follow me too, every night into their barn for feed and sleep safe from predators. Such fun.

Great to see Otis enjoying the beach! The weather here in New Zealand is cold and wet (Winter) at the moment! Looks like your hens and bees are very happy too. Best wishes. From Ron & Judy
