It’s amazing that you are able to talk about a very serious and important subject in a very funny way, that doesn’t take away from the message itself, thank you for doing this for all of us actually, it’s essential for everyone to be aware of this. Hope Shaun will be fully ok from the antibiotics, wishing him well:)
Glad you're on the mend. I'm in the exact same boat. Just got my antibiotics yesterday. Hopefully soon enough to avoid major issues. Lyme is very common here in Minnesota, USA.
It's good that Shaun is recovering. Here in Maine we call them deer ticks you can get them walking through grass that has some leaves on it or in the woods where there's leaves or pine needles. Good thing here is that the lawn care people can spray your lawn for deer ticks .my next Neighbors husband and wife were infected with the Lyme disease unfortunately they weren't treated in time and they both passed from it. If you walk in your yard or the woods or fields you need to check yourself day
Hi guys, thanks for sharing all the good info. Sorry you got hit by Lyme disease but I am thankful you found it early. Years ago a friend got it but it was misdiagnosed and therefore untreated. She ended up in a wheelchair. Lyme disease is found in all 50 US states. Take care, stay well, Gloria 🐂
We live in Missouri in the United States. My husband has AlphaGal from a tick bite. Can't eat any mammal or mammal by products. I haven't had a steak in almost 2 years in solidarity with him. Tick borne diseases are awful! And I'm also sorry you deal with horse flies like we do as well! Best of luck for the rest of the summer!
While we have plenty of ticks in Australia (we seem to specialise in things that can bite you), we don't have Lyme disease. On the other hand, we do have paralysis ticks that will kill a dog and can make humans very ill. They are usually not fatal for humans. The few deaths that have been recorded are mostly children, not adults. Insect repellent, clothing and inspection are the main methods of preventing bites or removing ticks as you described. The best protection for dogs is the three-monthly pill. It isn't cheap but not only does it protect the dog from ticks, it keeps fleas off too. Thanks for the useful information and I hope you have no long term effects.
Hi Colin & Shaun, Glad you got treatment so fast! It's great that lyme disease is recognized and treated now, as 30+ yrs ago it wasn't, someone I know had it, and was very sick. Please give Otis a cuddle for me. Thank you for sharing this with us, this was very informative! Always wonderful to see you both! Take really good care of each other, stay well! Lots of love Kathy x 💖(Ontario, Canada)
I love the way you describe Lyme disease. I wish doctors would have the wonderful sense of humor you and Shawn have. I miss the videos on why you left living on your boat. You both make a wonderful team.
Hi Sean and Colin, thank you for the reminder on tick safety. You two do a great job looking after each other. Happy Colin noticed the redness. Take care❤️
You can't say that, makes me smile every time! Grew up with ticks and remember feeling them during the night crawling and just flicking them off with out thinking. To bad they don't make pills for adults like they do for dogs to take during the height of tick season. Glad Shaun got to the GP and is on the mend!
Sound advice. I was bitten a few years ago and developed the bullseye rash. At that time I wasn't aware of Lyme's disease and went on to develop a fever and unbelievable muscle aches which lasted for months. Thank you for raising awareness of this horrible disease
This is the funniest 10 minutes everyone should watch on TH-cam on a Friday, wife and myself were laughing all through it. This is an important message to anyone out and about in the countryside. Keep up the good work lads.
Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that I could find what is essentially a public service announcement highly entertaining, as well as the expected informative descriptor. Y’all rock! Thank you for taking care of each other and the beloved Otis! See you soon from over here in Portland, Oregon. Lynette
Very sad to hear that you developed Lyme. I have several family members that struggle with their long term health as a result. It is my hope you will not have any lingering effects! Sending healing vibes your way!! 🤗 Blessings and Stay safe out there 🙌
Lovely to hear from you boys! Yes, we are a “tick-checking” family (Canada). When camping or geo-caching my hubby checks himself in the shower. Stripping down is best. Last week I took 2 ticks off him. They had penetrated the skin only, thank goodness. All part of nature, now.
Glad your OK, Lyme disease can occasionally become a very serious illness, the England International Rugby player matt dawson had to have heart surgery after a tick bite in a London park caused the bacterial infection to actually damage his heart. So even though you feel OK and I'm sure you are, just keep an eye on your health for a little while until you know your definitely 100 % ok
Shaun! What a blessing that although the tic carried Lyme disease you were able to treat it straight away. It must have been a very scary experience for you and Colin. Take care and check all crevices after every outing. Enjoy your weekend, and many blessings
I am glad Shaun is getting better. The alcohol makes the antibiotics void. So really important to stick to the rules. The information is very important as ticks are in most countries. Take care u two.
I was unfortunate to get this disease a few years ago. The bullseye rash appeared rapidly and I did have a fever and was very tired with... it took 2 different types of antibiotics to treat the disease from the plant foxglove family digitalis. It worked by killing the bad bacteria inside me but it affected me for at least 6 months... topping up my good bacteria was the key to help the digestive system regained a healthy balanced gut. I am glad you saw the mark quickly!!! X
Hi, Lyme is named after the town of Lyme in Connecticut in the US where it was first found. It is almost universal in some counties there and in nearby New York state where the grass is high and the deer are everywhere. We know lots of people who have had it and some seriously... Keep watching yourselves. Everyone.
Well. A few years back when I was on holiday in Scotland on the west side, Argyll, I had a nasty tick encounter. I climbed up a hill through bracken carrying my mountain bike. When I got back to the cottage in the evening, I went to have a bath and noticed LOADS of tiny ticks 'down there' in the groin area. I knew what they were because pets had had them. They'd got inside my lycra cycling shorts! Knowing they need to be removed with care we phoned a local GP for advice. He said to take a bath in highly concentrated salt water and they'd drop off, which they did. Fortunately it didn't lead to complications but I'm very wary of keeping my dogs and self away from bracken ever since. Great vlog BTW, only you could make a video about ticks, midges and clegs so funny to watch :-)))
Really glad to hear Sean will be ok. I am so paranoid about ticks, they give me the proper heebie jeebies. You've reminded me to find my tick removing tool though and put it in my bag! Thanks as always for the vlog, you two brighten my week. Also, Colin, I was 50 on the 6th of July so early happy birthday from a fellow 1972'er!
Lyme Disease is a proudly "Made in the USA" malady, named for Lyme, Connecticut where it was first diagnosed in 1975. A buddy of mine got it in 1979 in California, likely one of the first reported cases there. Only by luck did he see a doctor who had just read a paper in a medical journal and was able to get him the right treatment. He had been miserable with it for a couple of months, had the bulls-eye around a tick bite but that meant nothing back then. (It would take another 20 years before Calif. public health agencies would acknowledge its local existence, it was then assumed that people got it by traveling out-of-state) It's everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.
Really good vlog, love the fact you still make us laugh so much. They have improved catching Lyme disease thank goodness and glad Shaun is ok. Enjoy your week ❤️❤️xxx
Best wishes to stay well! Here in the Appalachian mountains in the USA, we have a lot of Lyme disease - as a vet I see dogs test positive very frequently, with sometimes extremely serious consequences. We do have a Lyme vaccine for dogs here in the US, which I feel is very worthwhile in addition to flea/tick preventives, don’t know if it’s available in your country. Enjoy your summer, stay healthy all three of you!
Glad to see you're on the mend, Shaun. Also, just had to turn on the captions to see if there was 7 E's in that JEEEEEEEP! (there was). Great video and information. And it would be nice if we had a 19C (66F) day here in Texas... haven't seen that since Spring.
My grandparents had a caravan at Reighton Gap too - reet near t'edge! Great memories! Fab video as always. Hope you can get back to your cheese soon, Shaun.
Lyme disease is no laughing matter. My partner and I both have had it, and we suffer also the long term effects like fibromyalgia.. Be well and keep fighting the good fight.
I feel for you Shaun. Had Lyme when I lived in the Highlands: 8 weeks of antibiotics which made me feel really rough. And 2 months off work, mostly miserably reclining on the sofa like some Victorian romantic instead of the cheese-loving, hill-walking, wild swimming, volunteer lifeboat crew that I was. But once that phase was over, I rapidly got back to my old self, unlike some other folk I knew who had long-lasting effects because they didn't recognise the symptoms. So I'm glad for your sake that you caught it early! And Colin's advice is spot-on, folks. Tucked-in trews may not be glamorous, but prevention really is better than cure!
Sorry about the lyme guys. My partner and I have had lyme several times here in upstate NY. I must confess that it is one of the downsides of living on a rural homestead. We perform 'tick checks' of each other (yes, can be rather fun) and the house animals (cats / dogs) daily once we are in for the day. There seems to be no other preventative other than dousing yourself in harmful pesticides prior to going outside. I do not recommend that. There seems to be little guarantee that you will not get bit. Awareness is the key, daily tick checks of each other (make it fun) and indoor animals, immediate action should you get a bite (not all have lyme) and if you have lyme , do what the doctor says. We do a blood test for lyme every January regardless of whether we suspect we have been bitten or not. The freeze kills active ticks. The test assures us that we do not have active lyme (sometimes lyme will not display a bulls-eye or other indicator) if the test is positive we can treat it immediately. Either way we enter each Spring season knowing we are lyme free. Motherly hugs to you both, we empathize with you more than you know. A pat on Otis's head. Remain well and strong. K
I live in the Mid-Atlantic area of the US (in Maryland, close to Washington DC) and deer ticks are pretty much ubiquitous -- and a ridiculously large percentage of them can transmit Lyme disease. Those tools work very well... at to be honest, all the old Boy Scout tricks I learned many decades ago are a lot less effective. All your advice about long pants, tucking pant legs into high socks (even better, high-top shoes/sneakers/boots tied snugly), wearing light-colored clothing, and carefully *checking* *yourself* for ticks (especially in nooks & crannies) are important to remember. Also important is that if you're going into the woods, a hat is A Good Idea along with carefully combing your scalp when you get back home. Glad youse guys jumped on the treatment so quickly -- and just think of how good that cheese is gonna taste when you can finally have some again! :-)
Here on the Scottish Wet coast one of my cats keeps on getting tics, always on her face, so close to her eyes that I am afraid to try and remove them, the other two don't seem to get them, I have had a couple of tics as well. I always worry for the cats because there is a problem with feline leukaemia which is spread by tics, so far none of mine have been affected. Loved the vlog, love the humour, Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the heads up I never walk anywhere in long grass with bare legs and arms. How are your bees doing Colin. Hope it isn't too long till you can get back to the foods you like Sean. I am allergic to most antibiotics so I will have to be extra careful. Enjoy the views and picnic
Stumbled upon your videos by chance when searching TH-cam for videos about the Standedge tunnel, then onto your page which I know I will be bingeing now all the videos! But on another note as someone who spent yearly childhood summers in Brora at my grandparents hotel it’s lovely to see you settle down in the area and look forward to more interesting videos of one of the greatest areas on this planet!
I didn't know you all Lyme's disease too. Glad you got it early. A girlfriend got it and has gotten both her hips and knees replaced, Lyme ate up her joints. It's nothing to take lightly. There is actually a vaccination for humans, via my daughter the veterinarian, but production was stopped because there wasn't enough demand. I'd get it as I hike in the woods a lot. My dogs get a Lyme vaccine and Simparica TRIO which kills fleas, 5 types of ticks, and heartworms taken monthly. One of the ticks it guards against is the Lone Star tick which gives you an allergy to red meat. You can't eat it and puke it out. I'm more scared of the Lone Star tick versus the Lyme tick. Like my meat. Have a good one fellows and watch out for ticks.
So glad you caught the Lyme disease early. In NC, we always checked the boys daily. The one always seemed to get the ticks. Thank you for all of the info. Stunning views, especially of the Jeeeeeep!
Great video, love you guys so much! Speedy recovery! Bit of unasked for advice: when Im on antibiotics, I take one probiotic about 4 hours after the antibiotic. It helps the "antibiotic tummy troubles" but doesn't interfere with the antibiotic.
glad you survived it , the peak forest canal is closed as there is problems with the water supplying reservoirs and ones partially working Combs but very low but a fab beach has appeared lol every cloud and all . good news is they started preparing to rebuild the Todd brook dam
Peck's Paste sangers! I haven't had them since I was a kid back in the 50's and I had forgotten all about them until you mentioned it. There's always something in your videos. Don't ever stop. Cheers
Great video. Had a colleague who caught it in the US. Didn't catch it quite as early and ended up half paralysed in the face for weeks. But all good after a full course of antibiotics
You guys make learning, either history or now first aid really enjoyable, glad Shaun's feeling better, can't wait till the video on car mechanics airs 🤣🤣🤣
Hello from NZ. We enjoyed your talk about ticks. We felt very sorry for you Shawn getting lyme disease. Those ticks look nasty. You guys are fabulous and so are Jeeeeeep and Otis. We will watch your latest one tonight. Cheers.👍👌😀😀
Oh dear. We're coming to Scotland next week and my partner has just learnt about the midges. I'm sure as hell not telling her about the ticks - she'll never get out of the car! And people have a go as us in Australia about our creepy crawlies! Thanks for the info & I'll toot when I drive past!
When I lived in Lithuania we had to watch for tick borne encephalitis if out in the woods. You could get a yearly jab for it. Nasty viral disease. Lucky you caught it in time and got the course. Also lucky that more GPs are aware of it. 20 years ago it wasn't the case. Wishing a quick recovery. Oh and try permethrin sprayed on any clothes etc. Works well
Morning my brother lives and works in the highlands he says the tick problem is massive this year probably due to the mild winter, great video highlighting this issue, keep the pets frontlined other tick and flea products are available lol, great channel by the way
I’m from Wisconsin and our state is historically at the epicenter of Lyme disease because of our high deer population. The deer are walking tick condos. Serious stuff. So sorry you caught it.
Yikes! Best wishes for a full recovery. You both did an excellent job of keeping the tone serious😜In spite of the serious subject, lots of good laughs. Thanks as always!
Suggestion: when I used to work with rehabilitation of deer, I used to wear long sock and pull those over and above my pant legs, then I’d spray my socks with an anti tick/flea spray and that repelled them from walking up my socks. Worked like a charm every single time. Deer are loaded with ticks and lice 😬 I still have nightmare about it sometimes. And yes, never squeeze a tick, release toxins into the blood.
Hope you feel well soon Sean, it’s a scary disease but you caught it early. Tics are really bad here this year and there are deer living right in the woods adjoining our yard. On hot days they sleep right in the yard under a big tree😳. Fortunately the bear hasn’t got tics I don’t think , I’m very paranoid about tics but there is a tic spray I use that Native Indigenous tribes sell around here. Stay safe and well, hope your picnic went well. 🙋🏼♀️
Hi Apparently Guinea Fowl are great at keeping down the ticks so maybe consider getting some for your small holding. There is a pheasantry called Allendoo in the South of Scotland that breeds all kinds of pheasants and Guinea Fowl you might want to talk to them.
I'm so glad Shaun is okay, and he caught the symptoms early! It's potentially quite a debilitating illness if you delay the treatment to Lyme Disease. people can suffer with after effects for a long time afterwards. Coincidentally, my son was bitten by a tick when we climbed Ben Nevis. Luckily he spotted it straight away, as it was between his fingers. Massive YUK!
Totally unrelated to Lyme disease, but I had to comment. I just found your channel ( my partner was watching you) and I think you guys are absolutely amazing! Thank you for being you! Lots of love from a not so sunny South Wales 🏴. Xxxxxxxx
Maybe you have already had lymes when younger and now immune…..is that possible? In the past farmers would burn stubble partly to kill the ticks but they not allowed to now for obvious reasons. Wearing pale long trousers helpful and getting someone to check you over after you been on a walk in long grass
@@lisadefries6718 never had it to my knowledge. I do a lot of running on forest trails, so long trousers aren't really an option but I always make an effort to check myself when I stop, still doesn't get them all before they take a bite.
We have many ticks in Australia, one is a paralysis tick. On a doco they said it is better to use a wart spray on them but not to pull a tick off. Thanks for the knowledge I had no idea what lime disease is. Thanks for the share. Please stay safe and take care
WOW Colin you're on a roll today 😅🤣😂 😅🤣😂I've lived rural and had to deal with ticks, so you're giving good advice. Well done Shaun for getting treated right away, even though you've had to give up some things you enjoy, like alcohol and cheese. Happy Otis has light colored fur so ticks are easy to spot. Have a good weekend you 3 and the chickens (especially Maud) 🐔😎stay cool!!!
Congratulations guys, this is the first TH-cam video that has ever made me itch.
Glad you're on the mend. I'm in the exact same boat. Just got my antibiotics yesterday. Hopefully soon enough to avoid major issues. Lyme is very common here in Minnesota, USA.
For a serious subject, I dont think I have laughed so much. You two are a joy. Thanks for cheering me up.
I came to say the same thing. On a bad bad bad mental health day this just what I needed. These lads !!!!!!!
Lyme disease is a big deal where I live in the USA (Massachusetts). I'm glad it was caught early!
I especially liked the drone shot bit at the open, very clever Colin.
It's good that Shaun is recovering. Here in Maine we call them deer ticks you can get them walking through grass that has some leaves on it or in the woods where there's leaves or pine needles. A friend of mine in Colarado ended up in hospital and almost died, but they pulled him back thankfully . Sorry to hear your friends weren't as lucky 😔
Yup. Deer are the Lyme carriers. Ticks pass it on.
Hope you're both well and keep smiling as that keeps stress away.
Thank you both for your time, hard work, good company and good humour.

Oooh. Hope you’re okay xx

I am so glad you got the rash and early intervention!!
We do have deer tickles in Massachusetts USA. They are terrible. We have been bitten several times. You both take care.
I love the way you describe Lyme disease. I wish doctors would have the wonderful sense of humor you and Shawn have. I miss the videos on why you left living on your boat. You both make a wonderful team.

Eeks. Poor Shaun. Hope he’s feeling better each day. Glorious views. Stunning.
You lads are a hoot. Luv it when Colin's cheeky.
I remember countryfile doing a piece on lyme disease years ago, and have been petrified ever since so this was very reassuring! Thank you!

Glad to hear you are on the mend Shawn! XXX
I appreciate the transition between you and the drone. The extra effort is definitely noticed!!

Avril Lavigne had a bad lyme disease attack a few years ago, glad you are ok Shaun, stay safe the three of you............
You two should have your own show
You guys crack me up!!! But in all seriousness.... fantastic video with tons of helpfull information.
🤣🤣🤣🤣”You can’t say that” Always gets me. You two are just brilliant. 🤣🤣🤣🤣💖👍
Didn't know about the bull's eye rash, so your video has instructed me. Thanks for this, guys. Stay well. 💚💚

Also important is that if you're going into the woods, a hat is A Good Idea along with carefully combing your scalp when you get back home. Glad youse guys jumped on the treatment so quickly -- and just think of how good that cheese is gonna taste when you can finally have some again! :-)
thank you for this guys - beautifully done and accurate as usual. Lymes is a horrible thing that can be awful if not treated quickly.
Thank you for sharing your story and educating us in a easy to understand manor. Glad you are feeling better Shaun. 😊
Lyme disease is very prevalent in the US. In fact it's named for Lyme, Connecticut where it was first diagnosed.
Thanks for the heads up I never walk anywhere in long grass with bare legs and arms. How are your bees doing Colin. Hope it isn't too long till you can get back to the foods you like Sean. I am allergic to most antibiotics so I will have to be extra careful. Enjoy the views and picnic
Take good care...we had people die of Lyme here last year...in us states
Stumbled upon your videos by chance when searching TH-cam for videos about the Standedge tunnel, then onto your page which I know I will be bingeing now all the videos!
But on another note as someone who spent yearly childhood summers in Brora at my grandparents hotel it’s lovely to see you settle down in the area and look forward to more interesting videos of one of the greatest areas on this planet!
Another informative and entertaining vlog as usual 😊 Fridays are always Foxes Fridays 😊
Three things put me off moving to Scotland, ticks, midges & the SNP, pleased Shaun's ok though
We deal with those little Bastards around here as well!
Good Luck and Get Well Soon, Brothers!
So glad you caught the Lyme disease early. In NC, we always checked the boys daily. The one always seemed to get the ticks. Thank you for all of the info. Stunning views, especially of the Jeeeeeep!
Colin, Thanks for a great vlog. very interesting and I hope Sharon is doing better. Glad Otis has not been bitten.
Another classic Colin and Shaun midge and bite special feffing brilliant and you can’t say that ,love you two thanks for the madness.
Great informative video. I just took a tick off my dog tonight. Thanks for posting 👍
I dropped my watch in a sheep dip and killed off all the ticks...(now it only goes Toc) 🤣
You guys make learning, either history or now first aid really enjoyable, glad Shaun's feeling better, can't wait till the video on car mechanics airs 🤣🤣🤣
happy too hear you are better!!
Thanks for a very factual and entertaining vlog. Hope Shaun recovers well. Take care, stay safe and well. with regards Derek
Important vlog! Especially for us here on the BC coast. Ticks are everywhere!
Works well
My son got lymes disease when a tick buried under his skin he was so ill he got a red rash first , hope your OK shaun 😊
A friend developed an allergy to all beef products after a tick bite. Yeah, that's a thing, too. Glad you got help quickly.
Hi Apparently Guinea Fowl are great at keeping down the ticks so
maybe consider getting some for your small holding.
Xxxxxxxx
Thank you so much, welcome to the madness 🤣❤️
As someone who gets bitten by the little beggers fairly often over the summer, I'm waiting for the day I get infected. Hope Shaun is recovered soon.
Sorry about Lyme. Glad you caught it early. Lovely skyline behind you!
