    The most scary and amazing part of all this is, Emet is right and never lied.

      He is also neither cruel or arrogant. Funny thing is, he despises the garlean empire given the way he speaks towards Varis.

      I think the ironic thing that Emet-Selch, whose name means Angel of Truth, never lied to anyone but himself.

      @@shovelenthusiast7389 He speaks to Varis the way he does because Varis reminds him too much of his firstborn son, who unfortunately died to illness at a very young age. Varis always wanted Emet's attention and praise, but Emet as Solus only showed him scorn due to his grief.

    when emet emerges for the very first time from behind that garlean throne, slightly sidewise dodging that ragged edge of the embellishment at 0:48, i knew he would be an interesting character. that weirdly human evasive move was for some reason very intriguing to me.

    Brilliant. Thank you! I just hope EMET-SELCH gets revived somehow, I mean edgy boy Zenos, an incomplete existence could brought himself back so why not someone who's actually more powerful and charismatic btw...

    • @AlexWaff
      @AlexWaff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Zenos used the ascian's way of bringing himself back to life - that only holders of the Echo can employ. By capturing their soul before it passes through into the aetherstream, and keeping it whole in said way, they can simply inhabit a new body. True Ascian souls (those of the 3 paragons) are extremely powerful compared to mortal ones, and are nigh impossible to extinguish. For the first ascian we killed back in the Waking Sands, it took an extreme amount of aether plus Moenbryda's soul.
      For Hades, it took all the light of the lightwardens. Once extinguished, though, a soul is gone. I think that it's actually more than dead - when a person dies, their soul returns to the aetherstream and is later reborn in a new person, who "inherits" it - soul recycling. And all souls currently being used come from ascians of eld who died or got sundered and died after. Practically every person's soul is a shard of one, if I'm not missing something. But when you extinguish a soul by blasting it with pure aetherical force, like what it takes to truly kill an ascian - it's gone for good. It can't just go hop into a new body, it can't even return to the stream and be reborn. Returned unto oblivion.

      I 100% disagree. A big part of why Emet-Selch's such an amazing character is because he has a complete story with a powerful ending, there's a reason why "remember us" had such an effect on the playerbase. Bringing him back would dramatically cheapen his character.

    At least in the end; he realized that the WoL/D is going to win. And asked that they remembered that they lived. Yeah... Our WoL/D is probably “that person”, and the 14th that summoned Hydaelyn. It makes since that she gives kin to our character over the shards.

    I can’t say I disagree with him. For if resurrection is possible then the dead have the same value as the yet living. And to prove this example we but must look at people in coma’s. We don’t just bury them? Why? Because they can yet wake up. Then why are dead so different if they too can yet wake up? No difference at all. Alphinaud, you’re reasoning is restricted.
    But then you ask who’s in the right? Emet-selch or the WoL? Well, they’re both right and just and deserved. But who gets to stay alive and who gets to die. Well, after all my explaining that should be elementary. It depends on whose stronger. When morals and circumstances are equal, only strength has the way to decide. And that’s how natural selection works... more or less.

    • @83917Michael
      @83917Michael 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit late, but no, a person in a coma is not the same as a person not in a coma. Triage is a thing. The same principle is applied in search and rescue - the rescuers' lives are prioritized over the victims if it comes to it. These are obviously choices we should avoid having to make in the first place, but this is pretty settled, standard ethics, albeit extreme cases. If its easier to understand, think of it like this: Emet Selch had friends who are dying he wants to save. Lets say, specifically they're dying of heart disease and need transplants. What he is doing is killing other innocent people to steal their healthy hearts to transplant into his friends, so they can live instead. This is human and understandable, but wrong anyway you look at it. Selch's problem is that he is fundamentally an extreme racist, and denies the value and right to life of all those he considers lesser, to the point of plotting omnicide.

    • @pumpkingamebox
      @pumpkingamebox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@83917Michael Trolley Problem, transplant variation. 5 people need a transplant, 1 guy walks in for a check up, kill him for organs? Or 1 very important person needs 5 transplants. 5 regular guys come in for a check up, do you steal their organs to save the very important guy? Now that I think about it, there are infinite ways to justify or condemn Emet.
      Racist? Maybe. But it makes sense in every way. He’s literally a superior being. Like a human to a monkey. It’s not like we’re not racists in that regard either. You value your wife and child more than your dog, and you will value a stranger more than that chimpanzee that escaped the enclosure and is ripping peoples faces off for its amusement.
      How many puppies that you have no emotional connection to are you willing to kill to bring back your most loved ones? Is puppies too much? How many spiders then? Trees? They’re also alive and willing to live. Or does having a conscience and an ability to articulate suddenly puts everyone in the same ethical playing field? How do you know dogs don’t have this conscience?
      I’d say Emet can be as racist as he wants.
      Also triage hardly matters when you have a personal connection to the subjects. Since humans are irrational beings. And would risk all for their loved ones no matter the risk.
      Plus Triage is a modern idea that all lives are equal. It’s very important to run society, indeed. But the truth of the matter is, we’re not born equal. Not in the least.

    • @tyriaxepheles7996
      @tyriaxepheles7996 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@83917Michael the people Emet-Selch is killing aren't real people. They are broken husks with the lifetime of a fruit fly. They are selfish. They brought murder, rape, and suffering to a world that once belonged to people who were peaceful, lived in harmony for eternity until they felt that their life's purpose was fulfilled and gave themselves back to the planet. Not the same at all.

  • @Wiz33
    @Wiz33 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The only reason you and everyone else survived the whole ShB experience is because of Emet Selch! Without him. Y'shtola would be dead (and you would not even realize that Elidibus is a Primal), The Crystal Exarch would be dead after absorbing all you Aether, the Scion will get sent home but may or may not make it in one piece, you will have no help in reaching the Crystal Tower since the Scion/Exarch will be gone, without the Azem crystals, you have no chance of defeating Elidibus, even if you somehow managed to defeat him, you can't bind him since you have no control over the tower and there will not be a memory crystal to transfer the Exarch's memories to the younger G'raha. Now. If you finally got your head wrap around the above. Tell me how can someone who have done all that does not have a perfect exit strategy all ready for his final curtain call, with the encore being snapping you out of the void in SOS and basically telling you that he's handing you the future but he's still there if you stray from the path.
    I'm not saying Emet Selch is a saint. I'm sure he was a "evil" Ascian all set on continuing his work for the rejoining upon his return. What I'm saying is that once he meet us and saw that we have a fragment of Azem's soul and have another fragment walking beside us. He was finally open to the idea that we might be a worthy successor to their legacy and an alternative to the rejoining. He then proceed to test our worthiness all through ShB which resulted in us possessing 2 fragments of Azem's soul and the official holder of Azem's office as part of the 14. While Emet probably doesn't see all but he's basically a god compare to us with his thousands of thousands of years of experience among us, establishing the Allagan Empire and all his experience as a member of the convocation of 14. Just look at his body posture in ShB until the end of 5.0 when you "defeated" him.
