- This is a short video detailing the process of how to mix automotive paint onsite.
After locating the paint code I am able to find it on the software installed on my laptop and mix the exact shade of the vehicle I am repairing.
A Laptop, scales and a full set of tints are used to weigh the exact amount and mix to match the colour selected. Any shade and any colour can be mixed completely on-site!
In the video I go through the basic mixing process including using the software... picking the tinters, weighing the tinters on the scales as it shows each value on screen. Mixing the paint, straining the paint and adding the paint to the gun.
The repair is shown after completion with the paint mixed in the video to show how good the match is.
This is all done completely on site as I repair the car!!
Loved the Dupont Centari solvent based scheme. Easy to use, dried quickly. Then the main dealer I was working for changed the scheme for Standox water based. Completely different to use. Takes longer to dry doesn't like being tacked off. Took me a while to get used to it. 😂
10 years for a Ford main dealer and 6 years self employed. Gave it up to go on the tools in the workshop. It was the worst mistake I ever made! Seriously thinking about going back to smart repair. Good video. 🙂
Thanks for watching! We always try different things dont we, some work some dont
There is nothing out there so simple video explaining how to mix a paint really well done 👏
This is very informatively
Brilliant video as always mate
Thanks man
Interesting video. Ive just bought a touch up kit off you, Hope you blend it spot on for my Jaguar XF 😂😂😂
Hi. Every paint order is hand mixed by myself so it will be done correctly. Thanks for the order. Martin
Cracking video there how can I get a proper colour match for my
Another great video bro
Thanks 👍🏼
Thank you for listening
Why are some paint suppliers paint mix so off colour? I understand sometimes you need to tint to correct to a similar colour, but I've given my paint code to 2 different suppliers, one came back very close, the other was very far off so annoying. The code was on a Peugeot EZR. Great video BTW
This is and has always been an issue with so many contributing factors. This is why painters often blend into the adjoining panel to hide the colour differences
Hi mate, just wondering how to go about getting the paints from and how to actually set this up. Im just looking for a bit of information as I am looking into starting my own mobile repairs. Just having a bit of difficulty with regards getting the paint etc and where to get the scales and suppliers really.
Thank you much appreciated
Try ebay
Very good. Can you tell me what size bottles you are using? To store your toners .....
Haha u got me there.. not sure, I buy 200ml at a time but common colours i order 500ml
@@cvrpov Thanks keep up the good work mate....
0.5 Is half a litre mate
Do you normally do one job a day, i was thinking time you get to job, sand, mask and paint the time must go quite fast.
I can usually fit 2 separate bumper corners in in 1 day inc travelling to 2 destinations and set up etc. Ideally I like to be on one decent size job a day though
What bottles do you use? I like the way the cap works on those.
250ml bottles with flip top lids
Hi again . Can you tell me why you don't use the De Beer Air Dry clear coat? You use another clear coat.... Diamond...any reason mate. Thanks
Never tried that clear. I like the diamond clear it does everything I want it to.
When you go to price your work, do you do by panel price, i was just wondering some bumpers may have 3-4 areas of paint damage others just one.
Sometimes by panel. Sometimes day rate and Sometimes a set price. It depends what will work best for me and the customer.
Great video, just wondering some cars have quite a few different shades under the same code , how would you know which one to mix do you use colour chips? Or can you get away with a slight difference with shade with blending out ? Cheers
Standard shade can be a safe bet.. colour check spray out cards if you've got time/budget in the job. Experience, luck and trying a couple of shades all play a factor. Colour matching is hard. We break the rules as Smart Repairers
@@cvrpov thanks for that, will the mixing scheme software show up with the different shades if there is or does the software does give you a standard mix? Cheers
@@chriswatson1554 I have used the De Beer system to. When mixing go for the top shade, mix that up and play around with the colour match. Darken or lighten up to match. Only use the toners that the computer brought up. Practice this many times and you will get good at it....LOL..Cheers
Standard shade is a good bet, but I also used to mix the shade from the year before. Odds are the car sat in a compound for a while before being registered.......
Great video, was winder what paint mixing scale do you use? I been looking to get one for myself
Mine is debeer solvent
He is using a Brecknell MBS600 Precision Balance great quality on the market well known brand pharmaceutical companies use them and the postal services as as well you can find this brand and same model for a little over 200 bucks.
Hi another question please, Can you tell me the best compound or polish ( brand ) you use for polishing your blends out. Do you use a soft or hard pad? From NZ.....stay safe
Hi Mate. I personally like 3m fast cut for all polishing work after refurb. The key is to dry and cool down thoroughly. Polish into the blend but don't get it too hot or too hard buffing at it.. keep checking your work
Hard pad and compound
@@cvrpov Thanks for that ....NZ
Please what site can I download the software
With the smart mixing scheme would it be ok for mixing upto 500ml ? A full size mixing scheme is too big just thought these might be ideal i normally use between 250ml and 500ml.
Hello, I'm from Brazil, there's no one here who can teach, could you give me a list of paints?
Hi can you tell me why you use cumulative when weighing your paint
Hi mate, thats just the way its done, as far as i know.
Please can you recommend a company who can help set up and supply the paint for mixing for someone who is just starting out please?
Try your local paint factors mate they might be able to help
@@cvrpov thanks sir I will do
You had 3 options of LX5R? Why u have chosen the first one?
On my system the one with a colour square next to it is the actuall one with the values etc
CVR POV let Me see if I understood: The first option in the software menu, is the most actuall color for the desired especification (LX5R), so you ve chosen that right?
On my system you always pick the one with a colour block next to it. Some colours have multiple options and its down to you to work out which one is the best match/most suitable
Hi where I can buy this all paint pigments form your box?
look online for paint mixing schemes
You don't use scanner for colour. Are they available for smart repair.
