I for one have always loved the idea provided in the comics that the Xenomorph's are an alien race from a specific planet where the environment is harsh and they are also not the apex predator with other alien creatures that are just as deadly. As well as the red Xenomorph's which I've always loved along with the Queen Mother. The whole they were created process I've always hated because I think what was meant to expand the lore makes it feel small. I believe theres more value in simplicity of their origin rather than complexity. And that simplicity is they simply are.

@Lauren Anderson while I agree that the original idea was better, the space jockey and engineer's are the same size the only reason they don't appear to be it because Ridley prefers a physical actor rather than cgi.
In some comic book or fanfiction the xenomorphs first appeared half a billion years ago, then died out. Another version has them with their native planet and natural predators of their own
The first alien vs predator is contradictory to the entire David story since it takes place in modern day like year 2005 earth setting

I didn't like the explanations in Covenant at all. The xenomorphs being a creation of a human-built robot just shrinks the universe right down. It spoils the aliens as a representation of the wide, unknown, uncaring, Lovecraftian universe out there; vast and strange to a terrifying degree, at a point when we've started think of it as business-as-usual, with a crew of grubby interstellar truckers.
And then we find out the xenomorph is little more than, I dunno, a mouse with a human ear implanted on it's back. Or a cloned sheep. Groundbreaking stuff, but in this context made mundane by being the result of trial-and-error tinkering by a near-future earth being with a petty grudge. A pale shadow of Doctor Frankenstein, filled with bionics and milk. Any tiny bit of wiggle room we have to negate that, I'm gonna latch onto. Thanks for letting us know about it!
I don't think the just-yesterday creation of a strain of xenomorphs, fits in with the original film either. The Nostromo crew encounter an ancient ship, with a near-fossilised pilot. They've been there a _long_ time. As long, or longer, than the Engineer mission to wipe out earth life, 2,000 years ago. If I could modify what what laid out in the video, I'd prefer to think that David simply struggled to recreate what the Engineers/Jockeys had accomplished eons ago: 'proper', recognisable xenomorphs, or the established xenomorph life cycle. We've seen variants in Prometheus and Covenant: the Head Room carving; the squid-hugger and protomorph; the neomorph. I think those could be explained away, not as 'pre-xenomorphs', but as the results of different infection methods, life cycles, and hosts. Prometheus, for example: rather than ovomorph > facehugger > human host > xenomorph, we've got goo-infected human > impregnation > squidhugger > engineer host > protomorph. And if the Nostromo had run across a ship full of puffball funguses, maybe they'd be trying to rescue Jonesy from a rampaging neomorph.
That the engineers' xenomorphs from Alien and Aliens turn out so similar to David's xenomorphs, would then be because they stick to that 'classic' ovomorph > human host life cycle.
Not sure I like the prospect of the black goo as an AI, as opposed to a complex mutagen or some retroviral agent. What form does it take? Mechanical nanotech, or something else? Still, it doesn't bother me as much as the story-based flubs of the last film.
Good points! I don't really see the deacon, neos, and proto as pre xenos, although they may have been steps in creating an end goal. Almost like they are in the same family, but not the same thing. I also think that the age of the "fossilized" jockey can't be taken too seriously, it was after all said by Dallas, a pilot with no real science background, especially when making comments about a race of aliens never seen or studied. If you take this away, it just means that it looked old, however, scott made the engineer suits in the prequels look too clean, making the jockey in alien look old....I wish Scott didn't have design consistancies in the original more giger films, and the prequels that pulled back on the design, making things not line up correctly. I also have a theory that the goo contains both organic substance and A.I., so who knows whats in their beyond what nanomachines were added in by the engineers or whoever made the stuff.
Warren JB great comment, mate. You hit the nail on the head with how it shrinks the universe. One thing that expands it again though, I’ve been thinking, is the idea that the Protomorph is basically a poor copy of something much more terrible. They had Andy Serkis do the movements for the creature in Covenant, and I found the monkey, almost pre human movements completely off from the original’s serpentine depiction, and was ultimately quite stupid where the original had a creepy, underlying intelligence, almost to the point where it knew what Ripley was doing. Scott has David as a metaphor for the Devil with his religious themes, like the Protomorph is a warp of God’s creation, (which is man in his symbolism, given by the ape like movement) but I feel the original Alien was the real Devil in the story, because of this intelligence and cunning David can’t copy, and David is really just failing to replicate it. It screams to me Pepsi when the original is Coke, so I really feel that thing the Nostromo found was something else entirely.
Isn't the aliens really just a representation of human beings and that possibly humans are this destructive weapon that a being created out of sheer malevolence.

Get over it. He did and Ridley confirmed it. The alien was clearly different before. David created the alien we know today because of the experiments and modifications that he made. 😂 Therefore he created it.

The xenomorph seems to be popping out of pretty much any situation, in quite similar forms, so it seems to be an inevitable occurence when black goo is involved. Therefore, who created the black goo also created the xenomorphs.
I like this! The concept that the alien was manifested in some unknown way by the engineers. And it’s David who enhanced its durability by giving it the bio mechanical carapace and teeth.
David just opened Pandora's Box by tampering with an ancient powerful thing. We see a depiction of a Xenomorph on the wall in Prometheus, so David couldn't have created the Xenomorphs, only ressurected them.
Plus the jockey ship in the first film has been there for millions of years with evidence of a chest burster

I have a question as well. If David just modified the xeno type alien and created the ovomorph(the egg) then how did Ripley find the crashed juggernaut in Alien (1979) filled with ovomorphs that supposedly crashed millenials ago?
That mural is black goo; the mural is also a fractal from chest-burster progression to queen: the black goo mural is potentially the controll node for the genetic rewrite at the hands of the goo, equally likely is that a queen is suspended in a state of dormancy behind a mass of black goo matterial in the shape of a wall.
I got mixed feelings on how David creating the Xenomorphs would simultaneously be the worst and best reveal. Why the worst should be clear, but the best coming from the idea there's this chain of creation.
The Engineers create humans, who are not as majestic as their creators but are varied and wildly imaginative. Humans create androids, who lack a certain spark but can retain more information and are much sturdier. The David creates the Xenomorphs, a ravenous perversion of life which could consume all life in the galaxy. And he brings about such horrors because he's so much like his own human creators.
Seems much more interesting to have the engineers do it instead of David

I remember watching your very first video on this topic!! I like to believe that the Xenomorph was created either from the Engineer's theory probably first. My favorite second theory of where the Xenomorph came from is that it has been around for a very long time, may through natural selection on some distant world many light year's from Earth. You did a 3 part video on the Aliens Dark Horse Comics "Genocide". where the story goes to the Xenomorph's home world, and there are two competing Xenomorph hives fighting to the death. --- Loved that video too by the way, it's one of my favorite videos of yours Howitzer! But that is my take, either the Engineer's created the Xenomorph or nature did.
Maybe you can make a fan film about the creation of the first alien and the origins of the xenomorphs. you can make those films better than the prequels.

I always had the films in their own canon to me. But seeing that Alan Dean Foster quote when doing research really made me realize that they are different in subtle and not so subtle ways.

@@yw1971 a bit extreme, Ridley is a genius and Promethius was a masterpiece. I just wish I could get in his ear on how to complete the third film a lead up to Alien.
In reality, it was just a combination of a director / producer that couldn't be bothered to pay attention to continuity and a special effects lead that was a fanboy of Geiger and wanted to put as many homages as he could into the mural, continuity be damned.
Rather the Xenomorph be a natural creature not created by the engineers or david. The Engineers probably came across it and tried to domesticate and weaponized it. Just makes the alien universe really small if the engineers or David created the xenomorph. Better it came off natural selection makes the alien universe more massive and unique. I just hate the whole engineers concept to begin with. Like the spacejockey just be another species that ran into the xenomorph. Be interested to know what the first xenomorph specie looked like, be totally different. With the xenomorphs taking shape with it's host. Totally different probably unrecognizable.
It wouldn't be unrecognizable, because xenomorphs are not hybrid creatures, but creatures that take on certain traits of the lifeforms that they are born from. No matter what kind of being a xenomorph gets born from, it will still be recognizable as a xenomorph. So, for example, yautja(Predator)-born xenomorphs are not part yautja(Predator), but just simply xenomorphs.

The eggs in the detailed were too old. The chest burster from the engineer too old. David had nothing to do with it.

That mural looks exactly like the armor that david walked passed. Pretty sure it’s just an armored engineer. That also probably gave david a lot of ideas on what he wanted from his creation.

this big thing in the chair in Alien 79 its called Space Jokey, one of them find the black goo on uncknown planet with destroyed civilization, he take a sample of the goo and mark the planet "verry dangerous" i guess this is start of the xeno ....but still , who made it the goo ??
David created the xenomorph, it’s a variation of something that existed before the Decon we see at the end of Prometheus is a closer reproduction of what we saw on the mural worshiped by engineers. David is the creator the alien we know from the early movies
The enginners created the Xenomorph centries ago. David created a subspecies.
I believe the Drukathi were the first species to discover the xenomorph millennia ago.

Alan dean foster did a decent job of the books but there was parts that was lacking such as the deaths of the crew in his Alien book.
remember Critters? I'm envisioning a chance meeting of Crites upon an alien infested situation; a face hugger latches onto a critter, minute preforations melt teeth blunting them. Both creatures are scary but critters are slapstick which I love doing to the Aliens' edge lord ambience.
Thanks. Yes, I felt it was a terrible narrative idea for David to be the one to make the iconic Xenomorph, like 50 years before the iconic first movie. The Xenomorph should be much older, created under much more mysterious circumstances. Sure, the origins of the general 'Xeno' type alien remain a mystery ... but the general Xeno-types arent iconic. I dont even understand their life cycle, or understand their default appearence. Theres basically no hint about where the Xeno-type came from.
I think David created the Aliens we know of , but maybe the Engineers were the ones who found the aliens in it's original form and tried like David to manipulate it into another form, but it became unstable and killed the Engineers.

from what i gathered the Engineers used their black liquid to create bio weapons lifeforms because they weren't satisfied with their creation (The Humans) But couple of small worms accidentally caught some of the liquid turning them into boi weapons ending up killing the Engineers . decades later David 8 found the black liquid and studied it's abilities then began experimenting on (Human) hosts which eventually created the first xenomorph
Ridley Scott should be removed from the franchise. He messed up Prometheus so bad, that I have yet to take the time to watch Covenant.
Prometheus was such a fail, it actually made me like the original film less. I so wish I could somehow make it undone.

100% I try and pretend Prometheus and Covenant didn’t happen. I just watch it as it was originally intended by the writers and concept artists(Ridley Scott was just the director so it’s not his story) where the Alien is an actual alien and the space jockey has nothing to do with humanity. The universe is unimaginably huge, we are just a part of it not the center
No matter what Ridley Scott might say, David did NOT create thr xenomorph. But, the creator/creation storyline in covenant can still work from the interpretation he simply pulled a Jurassic park. Study the roots and make your own version/revival. Explain the black goo as a virulent substance that is highly adaptable. Hence the many xenomorph variants (predalien, runner, newborn, deacon, neomorph, etc.) without being creatively limited by natural animal functions/life cycles.
david is regurgitating smol xenos from his own synthetic body, they're stunted cysts with a fragile alien central like a yolk: whatever he's making is unique in reaction to having no biological calorific values to form from; thus his xeno will be a unique strain apart.

Cool video! What are the proofs that the Alien we see at the end of Covenant is really a protomorph and not the final Xenomorph? I mean, I like the idea, but what are the evidences? Was it even called a "protomorph" at some point outside of the fan community? In an official artbook or someting?
The Problem with Covenant is how can David continue his work because he only has face huggers not black goo.
So in the newer later movies it's a separate canon universe and the comic/graphic/ novels is a separate canon universe. I'm saying they fit in some way but each is a separate universe

I don’t know why Ridley Scott have to remove this scene, but it’s no wonder how Predators in AVP movies create their own Xenomorphs for their rite of passage, since the Engineers taught them how to do it thousands of years ago.
Check the timeline out, I. alien and covenant there like 25 to 35 years apart, but everything in Alien state that there was about 1000+ years worth of dust on the eggs.
AvP (present time line) is still plausible if Predators also have the black glu and doing the same (creation way) as david did...
What if there’s an original race xenomorphrs who are the producers of the goo. Therefore they created the engineers, who in turn learned the power their god, the one in the mural, swimming in its own goo. The xeno is creator and the destroyer. 😎
When you think about it, Dr. Shaw's arbitrary decision to take the "Juggernaut" ship to Planet 4, instead of returning to Earth and reporting her findings on Moon LV-223 should be considered the most dangerous and diabolically reckless decision in the History of Man/Womankind.
Ugh that would be nether the Engineer and especially David. The movie was just a Canon breaker. The Aliens were found on there homeworld and utilized in weapons war by the Engineers.
So the ending of the ALIEN franchise will be like the ending of LOST ?

As the prequals are not cannon we still do not know who or how they were created. Good Lord now I know how star wars fans feel about their prequals.
I know they weren't very good overall but why are we ignoring AvP and AvP requiem? Both are set before Prometheus and covenant so David's involvement has zero bearing on the current xenomorph in alien, they are the same kind as both alien and aliens. Yes I'm focusing only on the films here, I haven't read any of the written content
Wasn't the derelict ship on LV-426, which had XX121 eggs on it, there for millions of years? I remember it being stated in the original film that the Space Jockey (dead engineer) was fossilized.
Dallas said the jockey was fossilized, but to be fair, it was an unknown alien to Dallas, and he was a pilot, with no scientific training to be qualified to make that assumption. Its still the general approved idea for the jockey and ship by the fans, yet the prequels dates so far would not line up as we havent seen the ship crash there yet. The prequels arent done either, so they may make it ancient and fossilized somehow as well.
Are the AVP films/games in the Prometheus continuity or are they like the Kelvin Star Trek timeline [an alternate reality]?
If 1 shared AVP verse, then the Human strain of the Xenomorph was either created or domesticated by the Youcha/Predators at some point when both humans existed and Antarctica was partially ice free [since the Xeno-Temple was on ground, not glacier level].
This has to happen before David since he is a W-Y creation and the Wayland and Yutani were competitors until sometime after AVP1

I think it was the engineer because the xenomorph from planet 4 known as the protomorph or praetomorphpraetomorph and they are not the same species as the xenomorph but they are in the same family

You never know, David might be “engineering” a way that created the Xenomorph with that Bio Mechanical looking body which kind of looks similar to the Engineer......but then again, the Deacon didn’t have a bio mechanical looking exo skeleton...

You see a disc shaped space ship leave when the engineer uses the black goo. The engineer that used the black goo should be the one at the end and he reanimated with that skin/suit. I wanna think that the black goo is what the hive is made of possibly, also for Scott to say that David made the Xeno’s is very very stupid lol

I love the fact David created the Alien Xenomorph. David is the best character in the entire franchise, he's cunning and psychotic and a genius. I feel the story becomes way more interesting and fascinating to know that us humans created Artificial Intelligence to obey and execute our commands, but it was this very A.I that was mistreated and given more freedom in way of programming by it's master that it seeked out it's own creation to prove that humans aren't the only ones that create life. What a seriously awesome plot. Can't wait for Covenant's sequel
I think the engineers found the canisters of black goo even though it was already lifelike and experimented with it and we got the alien or they were already a race of aliens and for short terms the engineers just found them
Thank you so much for calling out this fake script for the fake that it is. Some information you might not be aware of: back in the days before Prometheus was released, a fan calling himself 'nineinchwonder' produced an entire fake script based on the trailer, writing up the trailer scenes and filling in the rest with his own imagination. (It fooled aintitcool somehow.) That fake has a lot in common with this one, such as the use of 'illuminous' and cheesy movie callbacks, e.g. David doing the Titanic 'I'm the king of the world' in this one and 'follow the yellow brick road' in the first fake.
My favourite line of all from this fake script is on the third page - the Engineer's 'MAGESTIC pure shite face'. Pure shite. Seriously.

It contains a screengrab of Lindelof confirming the fakeness of the 'Draft 17' script, which dialogue extracts in the comments prove is one and the same as this one.

The deacon wasn't around yet. The deacon is a one off from a very complicated process involing human sex, infected sperm, etc. that likely hasn't been done before...that blood of the deacon stuff is from the fake scripts. it wasn't even a deacon in the early drafts, it was an ultramorph.

Because before in Prometheus appears in the wall inside the pyramid all the sequence of creation of xenomorphs.
In the newly released script it explains that the Engs found a Xenomorph and worshipped it because its blood had the ability to create life cuz the Engs lost their ability. When they ran out of xeno blood they tried synthesizing it, but failed, and instead made the black goo.
Look closely at the beginning of Prometheus, that’s gold goo the Eng drinks

where is it then? All of the real verified scripts are available at avpgalaxy. they debunked the blood of the deacon script by contacting its supposed writer damon lindelhof. and it had the exact same worship alien for blood, ran out, make goo story.
I still think that all of this android spawns aliens and flies a engineer ship story was a silly direction to take. For me, even the engineers appearance is wrong, they should have been more elephant like as with the space jockey.

Yep, AVP is part of the Predator franchise, but not the Alien film franchise.
...who created the Xenomorph? ...H.R. Giger of course. Yeah, he engineered them and then tried to hide them in plain sight with a Documentary that was made to look like a film.... hence 'Alien' (1979).
Giger is the true father of the Alien!
No one should take anything said by a director for granted when it comes to Hollywood. Everything is changed so often to appease interests and popularisation and I think Covenant highlights this fact - and they got it wrong.
I am actually disappointed that they got trapped into another "xeno" film instead of going deeper into the Engineers, their belief systems and the exploration of the Deacon instead.
What I personally find frustrating about Covenant is not that David created a xeno like alien that we know, but that the ancestral pieces of the puzzle were so quickly dismembered from the narrative in the film.
The Human/Android element to the universe is so thoroughly fleshed out that they all come across so shallow now. They do not compare at all to the characters we love from the past.
Anyway, just my thoughts... I have no desire to watch whatever Hollywood garbage Scott decides to churn out from the disaster that is Covenant.
what about the david illustration titled "ladies" shows a female engineer with a chest burster, he saw it somewhere it already exists
I like one of the original ideas of 1979 Alien, with xenos as intelligent species. I still like to think of xenos in the movies like they are some feral descendants of higher species. Maybe engineers found their DNA and recreated them. And David recreated what engineers recreated. Meanwhile, in some far far galaxy ancient xenomorph civilization just sitting and watching the show having a good laugh.
Is like asking who do you think made mankind ? Who knows ....
David didn't create the original Xenomorphs,and the Engineers possibly didn't either.
