So sorry that you are going through all of your challenges with chronic illness. I have suffered with RLS and have generally been down the same road as you with numerous drugs, augmentation, drug withdrawal etc etc. i eventually was able to consult with one of the leading RLS specialist in the US, which led me to having an iron infusion. RLS patients are often found to have low level of Iron IN THE BRAIN, even when the blood levels may even be in the normal range. The infusion takes 6-8 weeks to kick in but it has made a significant improvement in my Rls symptoms. Be advised that dopamine agonists are no longer recommended for RLS and the opinion of some specialist are that they should be taken off the market. Dopamine agonists cause inevitable augmentation.
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, iron levels are often missed in cases of RLS. It's kind of infuriating because it's such a simple thing to get an iron infusion but for some reason doctors don't seem to know about the importance of iron for RLS or are reluctant to prescribe infusions. I'm only on a dopamine agonist because I'd tried the other recommended drugs and they didn't work for me. Although I have not experienced augmentation so far, I'm thinking of going off the DA to prevent it occurring in future. My RLS will likely come back but hopefully not too severely. If that happens I will ask my doctor for an iron infusion. I'll also check out those videos you linked x
John Winkelman is a fantastic doctor and researcher! I referred to his papers a lot in my research for my RLS videos. That first video is an excellent summary of treatment of augmented RLS. I've saved it for future use, thanks.
