Boats are expensive. Some guy on a TV show years ago said, "You know what boat stands for right? Bust out another thousand." He wasn't wrong. My dad caught a gravel bar on the snake river in the 1997 Chaparral 2130 SS and I wasn't even onboard to witness it. But he tore the skag off and shredded both stainless props on the bravo three. The props at the time were $900 a piece and all said and done that mistake cost a few grand. My dad did say that it was pretty crazy running aground at 50 mph and then looking back to see some softball sized rocks coming back to earth. We learned later that a gravel barge dumped fill in the wrong spot and made a shallow spot that should not have been there. I miss that boat. It had a 7.4 and that 454 coupled with the bravo three counter rotating props got with it. On glass that damn thing would do almost 70 with me and a passenger. there's no cavitation plate because that doesn't do nothing about cavitation, it is an anti-ventilation plate because it helps preventing the air to reach the prop
Going off your video title the ugly truth is the cost of having a boat. Monthly payments if you financed. Space at home to store the boat, if not you'll need to store it at a marina and that will cost by the foot of your vessel. Boat insurance monthly or yearly. Maintenance fee, boat property tax yearly depends on what state you live in. County assessor value your boat 500k with a 1.1% tax you'll be paying 5500 yearly to uncle same. On top of that mortgage bill, home insurance, gas/electric bills, mobile bills, internet bills, water bills, trash bills, car insurance bills, car payments if not paid off. Food and family bills. Haha! You better have good income if you want to have a luxury life.
100% truth! You nailed it! Luckily we don’t have a yearly county tax but sales tax sure is expensive when you buy the boat and register it in Florida for the first time
@@StanzFam I saw that! Did the props have a lot of hours or maybe hit something? Don’t usually sling a blade on a good stainless prop, but it does happen. Did you try any 4 blades before settling in on these ship wheels?
Nick my son and I watch your videos all the time. You and your family have really made an amazing life for yourself! Congrats! Quick question: I noticed they are painting the barrier coat right over the black Ablative paint …I always though you had to sand that off before applying the barrier coat?!
Thanks for watching! Tell your son we said hey. I’m not positive but For the touch ups where the bottom paint or barrier coat is gone I’ve always seen them apply a little fresh barrier and then paint right over it with the bottom paint without sanding. I assume if it was a larger area that needed it they would sand it down and apply more barrier to a bigger surface area. The paint/overall bottom was in decent shape so I’m guessing they didn’t think we needed too much prep work
Did you ever hear back from Sharrow? I’d be interested to see their prop put to a proper test on the broad minded. That’s a real testament, if they hold up to real use by a proper charter boat.
The first freeman that ran them supposedly has good low end numbers but not what they were hoping for in the mid range for running. Hopefully they keep making more options and we can try them out
Stuff breaks alllllll the time don’t think I’ve ever been out on my boat with the live wells speakers depth finder trim tabs trim and jackplate all working at least one thing don’t work
Have you thought about investing in a lift and a trailer? Stop paying for bottom painting and haul outs? Trailer parking may be hard to come by in the keys but even just putting a lift in your slip would keep you from having to do bottom paint. I change gear lube on my lift.
The trailer is tough because of storage and I’d need a bigger truck. It’s 12 miles to the closest ramp, plus you have to pay to use it. A lift is something to consider but being uncertain on how long we’ll have a particular boat and the threat of a hurricane I haven’t ever pursued it
We use the spot zero water system to wash the boat every day. We usually spray the engines down under the cowling once a month and hit with some blaster silicon spray. Thanks for watching
Wow they take you to the cleaners on the haul out charge. The rest is in line, but that is robbery. Guess you can charge what you want if your one of the only ones around.
Holy crap, talk about bad luck! 😢 what about swapping the guts of the new/old lowers rather than welding. I don't know how much i would trust a weld on a high stress cast lower.
Awesome Video ! Wtf with the PROP !! Oh my goodness. What causes the blade to separate? I run a single engine 300, knock on wood I never have that happen.
It never happened on my old 37 but this is the 2nd or 3rd one I’ve seen on our boat the past year and a half now. I’m thinking the props aren’t made as good as they used to be, but hard to say
With respect, you tend to forget that your LLC & Company. Produces revenues to own this boat and pay its repairs down. It’s not like the rest of us who actually spend $80,000 of our own money to fix or own in to a boat. Huge difference…. Huge.
You could start an LLC, put your boat in it, and bear the same expenses. A lot of people that own all sorts of businesses do that even when fishing charters aren’t their primary source of income/business. $80,000 of expenses is still $80,000 of expenses, of course mine are written off but so are a lot of other boat owners that set their boat up as a business. The main difference is I make money with my charter business (it is my primary source of income) and most other companies whose primary source of income isn’t fishing would lose money but since their other businesses are much more lucrative they can take the hit on the boat business. I would love to be at that point one day when I could own this boat as a toy and not worry about it (I’m sure you and most people would), but I have a long long way to go to get there. Not sure if I’ll ever make it there to be honest lol
@@StanzFam I run a medical device company. The IRS would have me in their office if I bought a boat and tried to write off that purchase. You have to have what they call “Identity pairing in a write off”. That means anything you buy, has to associate to your business. A boat wouldn’t be accepted. I deal with tax laws and attorneys constantly. It’s why I only own a small jet boat bc it’s my own personal income being used.
Once a year on average unless we notice restricted water flow. We run the motors constantly and very rarely over shallow water. Even after 1000 plus hours pulling the water pumps apart the impellers have always been in great shape on my Yamahas. If they sat a lot of “rotted” or we ran over sand bottom we would do them much more frequently, like 300 hours or so

Luckily we don’t have a yearly county tax but sales tax sure is expensive when you buy the boat and register it in Florida for the first time
I like those Enertia Eco props on that gray motor!
Was good till a blade slung and cracked the cavitation plate on the brand new lower : /
@@StanzFam I saw that! Did the props have a lot of hours or maybe hit something? Don’t usually sling a blade on a good stainless prop, but it does happen.
Did you try any 4 blades before settling in on these ship wheels?
BOAT. Bring out another thousand. I wish it was a housing only every time. Boat looks good it is what it is
👍🏻👍🏻
I can still get micron 66 here in Massachusetts from west marine
👍🏻👍🏻
After Micron 44, the rest have all been CRAP.
Dang it man, I know the trials one goes through with boat ownership!
For sure 👊🏻
The paint/overall bottom was in decent shape so I’m guessing they didn’t think we needed too much prep work
People thought you were playing the boat, but actually was being played by the boat.
I have 2 fishing boats, I spent a lot of time taking care of them
It’s always something : /
Did you ever hear back from Sharrow? I’d be interested to see their prop put to a proper test on the broad minded. That’s a real testament, if they hold up to real use by a proper charter boat.
The first freeman that ran them supposedly has good low end numbers but not what they were hoping for in the mid range for running. Hopefully they keep making more options and we can try them out
There are two happy days for a boat owner the day you bought it and the day you sell it. Lol
😂😂🙌🏻
Stuff breaks alllllll the time don’t think I’ve ever been out on my boat with the live wells speakers depth finder trim tabs trim and jackplate all working at least one thing don’t work
So true 🙌🏻
Have you thought about investing in a lift and a trailer? Stop paying for bottom painting and haul outs? Trailer parking may be hard to come by in the keys but even just putting a lift in your slip would keep you from having to do bottom paint. I change gear lube on my lift.
The trailer is tough because of storage and I’d need a bigger truck. It’s 12 miles to the closest ramp, plus you have to pay to use it. A lift is something to consider but being uncertain on how long we’ll have a particular boat and the threat of a hurricane I haven’t ever pursued it
cheaper to paid for a tour.. when you are done for the day, you go home with your fish... no hassle.. :D
42’ for sale later this summer? Upgrade to 47’?
It will be for sale it sounds like in the Fall now. Production running a little behind. Planning on a new one but Not a 47, (not there yet)
love the vids
Thanksn
Good job nick
Thanks for watching
those engines look amazingly clean - SaltAway after use? how are you flushing them - well done
We use the spot zero water system to wash the boat every day. We usually spray the engines down under the cowling once a month and hit with some blaster silicon spray. Thanks for watching
awesome
👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Wow they take you to the cleaners on the haul out charge. The rest is in line, but that is robbery. Guess you can charge what you want if your one of the only ones around.
There's only 1 thing better than owning a boat ...... and that's having a friend that owns a boat.
Haha truth
Its a constant struggle...a balancing act really....but its all worth it when the drags start screamin 🤙👍✌️
👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Holy crap, talk about bad luck! 😢 what about swapping the guts of the new/old lowers rather than welding. I don't know how much i would trust a weld on a high stress cast lower.
They took the other gear case back for warranty so you’d have to buy a used housing from somewhere
@@StanzFam that sucks, hope it takes a weld and you get back on the water. B.O.A.T.s!
Two happiest days for a boat owner:

Get a lock n lube grease gun quick connector.Wont pop off.
Noted 👊🏻
My boats 50/50. 50 % percent work, 50% percent fun. Still worth it? yeah...
How does a stainless prop blade "pop" off"
What is the warranty on those yamahas? And is it a full warranty or does it only cover certain parts?
We get 3 years for the guide warranty. Covers us most of the time, unless it’s excessive wear and tear from a lack of upkeep/maintenance.
B.O.A.T. Break Out Another Thousand!!!! Lololol
100%
My group has the boat chartered on 6/3 looking forward to fishing on a freeman for the first time.
Awesome. Good luck! Hope they bite for you all 🙌🏻
and I thought you just rode around and looked pretty
🤠😬😕
B.O.A.T. Bust Out Another Thousand!
🙃🙃🙃🙃
They installed the prop??Under warranty??
Prop (and the damage it did) isn’t under warranty because it’s not a Yamaha prop
BOAT…Break Out Another Thousand….the two happiest days owning a boat….the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

Wel you know what they say

How often are you replacing your impeller?
Once a year on average unless we notice restricted water flow. We run the motors constantly and very rarely over shallow water. Even after 1000 plus hours pulling the water pumps apart the impellers have always been in great shape on my Yamahas. If they sat a lot of “rotted” or we ran over sand bottom we would do them much more frequently, like 300 hours or so
@@StanzFam cool. I'm running in the same waters as you are. I'm just trying to gauge my own maintenance
Ain't that the truth!
👋
😬😬😬
Crazy the difference from Florida boats the northern boat my 2002 has 375 hours that 2 year old boat has over 20000 hours
It's the difference between charter boats and recreational boats..
They definitely get some use down here
Brake out another thousand is the real meaning of what having a boat is all about lol
🙃🙌🏻
