@@hamzhehe5062 you only need to change the PSU if it takes and 8 pin power input.. if it needs 75 Watts or Less you'll be fine the dude in this video didn't need to change the power supply.. you can look up my comment on this in the comments.. 👍

@@allenbrodess8510 I put a NV GT710 with the stock PSU and got nothing. Tried 2 more 3020 and still salt. Tried the same video card in a very similar Lenovo and it worked.
@@Skungalunga Your reply is missing too much information to form an opinion.You could have a power issue at the wall,bad psu rail's,dirty/improperly socketed video card bad motherboards replaced psu's ,improperly configured bios a short somewhere and yes it is possible to get 2 used lemons in a row especially when it's concerning gpu power cause nvidia and amd/ati where exceeding the rated limit's for the rail's with various video card's and dell is well known for skimping to increase profit margin with their (proprietary hardware)...I really could'nt say what's going on there without more information/testing nor could you

1. What you call Opinion is my experience.
2. I tried 3 different 3020. One was straight out of plastic.
3. The Lenovo (and other PCs) worked, so I'm pretty sure video card, power cord and outlet is working.
Again. Not looking for a fight. Just solutions.
A quick google seems to suggest I'm not the only one with the same issue.
@@Skungalunga Your experience lack's the proper testing and knowledge to assess the situation thus your experience was only a small fraction of what it could be and in no way dived into figuring out why the outcomes where the way they where..Therefor it is limited to i had 2 dell 3020's this card would not work during my fitment of it in those system's while it would work in another system with different spec's.You dont know why this is and it appear's you lack even the ability to figure why..it could easily be a software,firmware problem or a physical problem with the system's themselves or your own incompetence
@DIVERSA i'll assume you meant low profile.depends on what has been added to the system ..If it's bone stock yes the 1050ti's without the pci power connector's will work...If you've went in adding sound card's expansion slot networking car's or other additional hardware tho a psu upgrade would be recommended

I know this is old, but do you remember if the drive assembly on the right can be removed to fit in a full size GPU? Can it be moved up, it looks like there are attachments to move it to the slot just below the optical bay.

QUESTION (for anyone as I would greatly appreciate any help). can I remove the HD out of my optiplex 3020 SFF and put it in a optiplex mini tower (with stock configuration) and run the computer with no problem (no software or hardware issues)? I want to upgrade the PSU and video card in my SFF optiplex but the options are just to limited. but it looks like if I had a bigger case (MT) I would have a lot more options.
I got a corsair vs 550 and it doesn't seem ro have a 4 pin that fits this motherboard? Is it proprietary? Would an 8 pin to 4 pin work? Thanks
Thanks for sharing. The PSU is not required for this card though. I ran GTX 1050Ti on 180W PSU along with 4th gen Intel i5 without issues for 6 months before upgrading it. PSU would only be handy if installing GPU that needs additional power or is heavily overclocked.
Another tip - HDD to SSD caddy is not required, you can simply cable tie it to the chassis or use any 5.25 to 3.5" adapter.
Last but not least - do not buy anything under 4GB in terms of GPU - chances are the price difference is minimal but performance impact is huge depending on the title.
@John Sanabria no estimated total system power is 300 watt's which is just a rough figure they put on the box to make sure the tech ignorant have enough power for most systems with that card 1050ti's max around 150's watt's with overclocked versions..to get 275 watt's to a gpu you need the pci socket,and 2 6 pin pci power cables....socket delivers upto 75 watt's each 6 pin pci power cable delivers around 100 watt's MAX 1050ti's use socket power and or 1 6 pin pci cable which means the absolute max draw is about 165 watt's and they wont even use that average use under load is 100-120 watt's by 1050ti's

Do I have to use the HDD odd cable to provide power or can I use the connection straight from the new PSU?
I ask cause id like to use both HDD and SSD. I got the second caddy for SSD but the SSD site recessed and the second connection from the the HDD odd cable doesn't reach.
You can use the SATA power directly from the PSU.
I found a 3020 for cheap. But my new power supply has a lot of wires which you don't seem to use. then are you NOT using the power of the new PS? just the adaptor to 8 pin and the cpu? all other wires frm the board to the disk are the old wires.
you dont have to use every wire to max out the psu...but no that build is not using the full 290 watt's

I'm also getting an old pc of the same brand, Dell Optiplex 3020(i3 4130 3.4ghz).
I traced the original on newegg and the reviews pointed out how it's using a proprietary mobo and psu so replacing them is quite difficult but that review was made 2 years ago.
So if the original psu dies can I still replace it like you did with some extra power cables?

Yes you can
The compatability issue is due to 2 things..1 haswell requires specific power supplies with tight voltage regulation to not void cpu warranty and 2 which is still a factor today is that virtually every power supply sold after market uses a 20 or 20+4 pin mobo power cable so you have to get the 24 to 8 pin adapter shown here...

You probably didn't need a new power supply if the only upgrade was a low power graphics card. I had 280 w power supply and added a 1650 (low power) and extra sdds and it was still enough power. However it will help with future upgrades.
I added asus gtx 770 4gb and cx 650m psu to a optiplex 3020 MT, but the gpu outputs only black screen. Same with other gpu I tried (hd 5450). Im guessing this is due to faulty pcie slot of the computer. So Im thinking of trying another optiplex. Which optiplex model do you recommend?
you are probably using UFEi mode. You will need to use the internal card and set the bios so you can reboot with the card installed.
i wanted to ask that i have the same pc so i removed the core just to see. and there was this ashes kinda stuff on it. and under the fan which sits on too of it. my question is was it the sticker on i3 core that burned ? just curious. i need help turning it into a gaming pc too. I don't know shit about pcs.

yes the 290 watt gold psu can handle a 1050 or 1050ti just fine...

You can upgrade to I7 4790 with A18 BIOS. I do not know about others
You didn't need to change the power supply... The specification for that PCI slot it's to provide 75 Watt's as standard.. so the previous PSU would have been fine.. maybe if you loaded the computer up with 4 RAM sticks and a higher TDP processer and a couple of spinning hard drives then you may be pushing the previous PSU. But that computer was designed to be able to take that graphics card no problem. 😋

No different mb
no ryzen uses a am4 socket motherboard.you cannot ever put an amd cpu in a intel motherboard ever..best case it wont work worst case you can blow it all up...The ryzen 2200g is more power effiecient than what came in these the problem power supply wise is that ALL am4 motherboard's use a 24 pin motherboard power supply cable not the 8 pin seen here so it wont work for that reason...
As far as budget friendly am4 motherboards go asrock makes one for about $50 you could use with the 2200g remember am4 motherboard nothing else will work

Yes you can install gtx 970 video card in this dell optiplex 3020 mini tower and does have one pci express x16 slot and you have to remove hard drive cage to fit this video card.

@@williamarenas2093 3.0 and 2.0 x16 supports virtually any graphics card dating back to 2000ish...Ia 4590 and a 970 is a bit of a push for vr tho it wont be a smooth experience expect vr sickness..the question here on compatibility is if it will fit in the case and if your psu delivers enough power

depends on which chip you want to use..anything with a 'k' at the end you can forget...you also need to stick to the 4000 series intel cpu's new or older gen's wont work...but yes you can put in say a i5 4570 for example..

are there 2 different version of the optiplex 3020 (2 different case sizes). I have the optiplex 3020 SFF and I think the biggest PSU I can find that would fit is 300W. the stock PSUin my PC is 255W.

mobo's are a bit trickey case dell uses proprietary mobo's so the screw holes might not line up you will have to compare it to another..make sure you get the right socket for your cpu and proper ram support and have a psu with a 20+4 pin psu cause dell's 8 pin ones wont power most any other mobo

@@mxkdt is the same model as yours, I think is the adapter because the led of the motherboard don't turn on, that led turn on when is connected to the psu, I already check all the components and all work, i'am use the two psu, the original to the motherboard and the cpu and the new one to the videocard and the HDD, I try to turn on the psu connecting the green and black wire of the adapter but it doesn't turn on, did you do something more to the adapter ?

Bibekshil Rajkarnikar A GTX 1050 needs a 300W PSU to work properly so I think your Power Supply is causing this issue.
@@SebWayYT no the psu should supply enough power...if it worked prior to installing driver's the problem is not that at all..there is a chance they installed the wrong drivers or got a fake card those are passed around on the net often enough in the below market price range...there are a few other problems it could be tho

@Aron Tobi one who does not know should not speak the preinstalled psu is plenty for adding an ssd and a gtx 950 and would most likely provide better power efficiency than the one he put in...950 75 watt's cpu 85 watt's ssd 10 watt's for a toal of 170 watt's factor in the 10% or so of loss on 290 that's 29 watt's call it 40 to be safe the means the psu can constantly and most efficiently supply 250 watt's 250-170=80 so there is 80 remaining watt's of which an optical drive wont use more than 30 of if that
