    Right, so back to confirm. Only NVMe SSD will work in the second slot, tried my sata M.2 SSD and it did not work; bought an NVMe M.2 SSD and that worked. And also downgraded to windows 10 and its been great :)

    Loving your videos on this laptop. Just got two for the wife and I. I'm wondering, when we go looking to get secondary drives, is there a good way to verify if a drive will work in our g15s? Anything specific in the name, specs or description? Or would pretty much any m.2 drive work?

    • @RanchoBurger
      @RanchoBurger ปีที่แล้ว

      For example, on newegg, I see 2.5", 2.5" U.2, M.2 2230, M.2 2242, M.2 2260 andM.2 2280. Is there a certain category I'd want to stick to?
      In looking at the hardware specs, I see the ssdpeknu512gz is an 80mm. So would I be looking at m.2 80mm drives?
      Sorry for so many questions, haven't had a pc in a long time and I've never really gamed on one or looked into upgrading anything.

    • @XxViciousxX
      @XxViciousxX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RanchoBurger Very glad, you are liking them. You'd want a 2280 which would be 80mm. Any drive should work but don't spend extra money to get a gen 4 drive as you wont get full speed as this laptop is gen 3. Of course, if you see a good one that's a decent price but happens to be gen4 its backward compatible just won't run at full sped.

    How are you configuring those two SSDs been watching some videos people say raid zero is best to make it faster and then some videos say about you don’t have to do that with SSDs only hard drives because the SSD you won’t get that much more performance rating it because it’s an SSD what is your suggestion put it in formatted leave it alone or is there anyway to make it better especially when I’m getting kind of new with upgrading the stuff thanks in advance

Or would that not be recommended due to loss of transfer speed via usb?

    • @XxViciousxX
      @XxViciousxX  ปีที่แล้ว

      There would be a performance hit if you just did USB 3.0. But if you hooked it up to the USB C port it wouldn't be that much slower than if it was installed in the laptop.
      I'm personally just using my m.2 enclosure to clone my 512 gig stock m.2 drive. Then use the 512gb stock drive in the enclosure.
      All games would run from it either way though. Games even run off an SD card on my steam deck without losing performance. Even load times aren't that different compared to the internal and that too on the Steam Deck versus the SD card. Of course there are a few outliners.

      @@andrev6000 This laptop only does PCIE 3.0 even though it's a 5000 series processor and those normally have 4.0. I guess they didn't put 4.0 in laptops or this one in particular for whatever reason.
      But good news 4.0 is backwards compatible with 3.0 so you should be fine. It just won't hit the speeds it could hit if it's anything like my desktops 4.0 drive that can do over 7200mb it will be limited to around 3500mb which sounds like a lot and it is. But unless you're moving gigantic files around there's next to no speed difference in general use or gaming. Funny enough I barely noticed a loading difference in games between a SATA SSD and a M.2
      Sorry for the wall of text but I get technical sometimes.

      @@XxViciousxX Thx again for reply! Yes, I am the one who moves and saves a solid 3D project files which can easily be 10+ gb for a single file, that's why Plextor M10P been bought. Losing file transfer speed just because of PCI-E 3.0 instead of 4.0( about 3gbs instead of 5-7gbps on 4.0, if I remember correctly) isn't an option, so I'm about to keep Plextor in my PC and go buy an appropriate 3.0 SSD to put into laptop.
      Thx again for help! :)

      Lol yeah, I was doing that but then I had to delete all the games that I'd take when I go to my friend's houses or travel to fit all the games people wanted to see run. So figured I could use a 2TB then I won't have to worry or delete anything. Figured people would also enjoy seeing how to upgrade the SSD/Add another so figured I'd make a quick video on how to do it.
