George is still and will always be one of the best in the game. This is raw, unedited live sound and it’s super clean yet it still has that ‘human’ feel to it. Also, some the chops he throws at us during the slower parts are second to none.
Ol George learned the swivel technique and never looked back, I guess. He uses the footblaster triggers, but he sure as shit doesn’t need ‘em since he’s seemingly built up a lifetime of endurance.
@@whyhatestrangers he needs them like every other speed drummer, otherwise you'd only be hearing shit. he uses triggers as they should be used - to clean up the audio spectrum as is necessary if you play at this speed in a metal band
Completely agree, but imo they still stand out. A a lot of folks can match the speed but lack the playful creativity to make them sound 'unique' and instantly recognizable. From the fresh generation J. Saint Merat from Ulcerate does that well.

To me George is the reason Blast Beats have become more popular and there are more DM drum play throughs . I love Tony Laureano as well, he played on some of Nile’s best songs it’s just George brought it to another level !
I think he said once that he's had moments where the muscle memory simply takes you where you need to be without thinking about it. I believe it was a chat where they were talking about the energy and endurance required to play this stuff. I think Brian said something along the same lines.

I think its fair to call George the GOAT Metal has changed alot in the past 10+ years but George remains as the absolute beast he always was, plus more. His playing on the newest album was completely insane.

Drumming for Nile is one thing, but doing with your eyes closed most of the time is just nuts.
its all about knowing your kit and where everything is and knowing every hit, takes a lot of practice!
closing the eyes is the easiest thing as a drummer (if you know your kit) sometimes it even makes playing easier, provides additional focus
