He uses the swivel technique, as you can see he "swings" his heels to the right and left. One advantage of this technique is, that it greatly relieves your shin muscles from over-use, cause the motion is mainly side to side, not using too much shin muscle activity :)
Trango Fast If you're going to try and get into it, I'd advise being careful about how far to the side you swivel. From experience, I can tell you that a smaller swivel is much healthier for your knees and joints than a larger one.
I imagine Nile acquiring George as their drummer was an amazing accomplishment. Mainly because on their older stuff, you can tell they were slower in speed because I guess the drummer couldn't achieve such speeds. Now that they have George, I think they've been able to go to speeds they've never thought possible. Bravo to Nile, and bravo to George, my favorite drummer. \m/
Totally insane drumming,I think George has proved that anything is possible,if we talk only about speed and power and stamina then George is in his own category, could anyone explain his hand technique because he really is the only drummer who can play with power at extreme speeds
This is Inspirational to any musician, Its awesome to watch, and inspires me as a guitarist everytime I view it. I may not be a drummer, however I reference the drums as a guitarist. This dedication can be applied to any school of thought. Great thanks to Kollias for inspiring many.
DUDE. I know this is 9 years later and you most likely wont see it, but this is one of my inspirations as a guitarist to motivate to practice more hard.
The tom fill at 3:34 where he switches his hi-hat hand from right to left so he can play the toms and snare with his right hand alone. I know it's not incredibly hard but he executes it with such precision. One of the many reasons to love this man's drumming.
When learned drumming, i hit a speed limit, when i couldn't think of every stroke fast enough. I overcame that with muscle memory. The basics of Hi-hat, snare and base are programmed into my body. But this guy has 5 programs running his body simultaniously while doing off-beat stuff on the cymbals and magic on the base. Very impressive. Thx, for sharing.
what are you blabbing about Nile is the best most unique band ever they have a sound no one can pull off the guitar solo's to even the sounds of just a fret or two sound amazing the vocals sound like the dead of the underworld and the drums are bone crushing you seriously need to open your ears when you listen have you even heard all their albums i guess not George pay no attention to him your works in Nile are utterly amazing and unmeasurable thank you for all the stuff you do for us the FANS!
I know this is all about drums here, but Dallas' vocals on this song are mind numbing! One of my favorite Nile tunes! It's awesome to watch this master of drumming do his magic & wonder behind the set though!
I totally agree, the vocals on this track are out of this world. Wish Dallas would use that "gear" more often because it fits the music perfectly. The part from and including "As for my enemies..." to "... with the blood of the fallen!", I mean.
His technique is flawless....(that's why he makes it "appear" so effortless) It's not how many years you play, it's how many hours you practice...Great work!
One of my favorite song from the last album! I can't wait to here the new songs george! I've read on the forum that the drumparts were more crazy then those on the Ithyphallic album! Can't wait to hear it!
derek roddy and george are the best drummers for me. they are really fast both. just cant choose one of them lol. george im a big fan yours. keep rocking the drums and font forguet that there is a lot of drumming community (including me) who suport you and appreciate your job. You make something called "Drums" an art.
Lol, right on. Because I'm sick and tired of Slipknot fangirls saying Joey is better than Kollias. Glad to know there's somebody out there that agrees with me.
Dude, I'm not really disagreeing with you, but George is so damn good that it doesn't really matter what band he is in, his brilliance WILL be exhibited in any band he is in.
I think in a way there is an element that the techniques have become more refined as the various people explored methods, pedals develop and so on, like drumming in general. What George does is a development on top of the work of Tony Laureano, others, and his experiments too. For me George brings with him a stronger musical education.... and it shows. DC
Anoint my phallus with the blood of the fallen. ANOINT MY PHALLUS!!! Not just a kick ass drummer but is also a member of one of my favorite brutal bands with great lyrics. George and Nile rulez!!! \m/
You can't get any better than this when it comes to death metal drumming...whether it's speed, timing and precision is off the chain. Don't know how diverse he is in different styles but, he and Mike Smith own completely!!
Totally awesome. Sickkk doublebass as well. the only thing I can say: please put that snaredrum a bit harder in the mix (or some extra compression). It's not that George hits too soft, but in the mix, they should put the snaredrum a bit harder in it. Gogo :) You the man!!
he says "it's the last one" , so no reason to ask my friend. get the DVD, its only 30€ and i got it right away when it came out, its worth it. you get a lot of motivation.
i agree, sometimes you couldn't hear anything but the snare aswell, its a great album anyways! and now that Erik Rutan is drum producer for the next, i have high hopes for the drum production :)
yeah, it's not for everybody.... but i swear... me personally, i can't get enough of good death metal drummers/drumming..... the technical abilities and stamina of some of these guys like george kollias, derek roddy, inferno from behemoth.... man... it's insanely awesome.
@ASSLICKERADAS ankle motion. The movement on right and and left of the heel is a conseguence of playing high speed,it's a matter of control and stability,it's the "swivel".But his technique is still the ankle motion
you are just awesome george!!! love this song and the part when dallas sings anoint my phallus with the blood of the fallen is so fucking brutal!!! love that part and i cant wait until the next nile album comes out
As for my enemies
My drums shall increase
The beating of their hearts
And deafen their ears
U must b fun @ parties.. 😀
Although im not into this kind of music I must admit... you're awesome. Ok time for me to go look for my jaw... it should be lying here somewhere.
the man is blessed with good shin muscles
He uses the swivel technique, as you can see he "swings" his heels to the right and left.
One advantage of this technique is, that it greatly relieves your shin muscles from over-use, cause the motion is mainly side to side, not using too much shin muscle activity :)
Thank you

>shin muscles
calves
dont forget those elbow muscles
This my favorite Nile record! It’s got that special something!!
I imagine Nile acquiring George as their drummer was an amazing accomplishment. i'm a guitar player, but i can watch GK playing all the time. Human metronome...
NILE!!!!!!

@@Tony-fx9ky Thx for sharing your opinion about my comment. I really care about, what moronic millenials think about my comments.

Vocals are insaaaane
idk how any of em do it
all while maintaining perfectly accurate mythological themes of ancient egypt
This whole song is a fucking masterpiece, the lead guitars make you feel like you are actually in Egypt.

Best cover on TH-cam
He is the drummer of NILE
+texnikos1 no shit
It's not a cover then is it lol.
Just to reiterate; it's a playthrough, not a cover.

Thee greatest metal drummer of our time ladies and bangers! \m/
His technique is flawless....(that's why he makes it "appear" so effortless) It's not how many years you play, it's how many hours you practice...Great work!

I have to say out of every one in my opinion George is by far the best.
its unbelievable that he plays this fast every damn night. George you are not a human.

Great!!! good job George! One of my favourite drummers.
George Kollias, one's of my favorite drummer ever! :)
i love how he plays single bass faster than most double bass players XD
what i like about him especially is that he mixes up the songs rather than just godly blasts. He slows it up and makes it just that much more meatier
I don't know what to say! But that's ok, cause words can not(!) describe this artist! GK, you're my love! I love you man!
We've got to pay respect for such brilliant skills!
He has an amazing amount of power and control. Besides that his creativity is mind blowing...a truly amazing drummer.
You, George is definitely one of the best drummers in the world today. Fantastic work as always. I really admire you and your skills!

Zajebista awesome
Very intense and awesome George!! I love your drumming!
Tell Karl Sumerian mythology owns Egyptian mythology ;)
If he didnt wear shoes he wouldn't have any feet by now - probably the best way to describe George's double bass to someone that hasn't heard of him.
from now on when i listen to this track im gonna do it here, the drums sounds so fucking awesome, better than on the record, your a legend George!!!
Amazing technique, haven't seen anyone match this speed and keep it as tidy as you do!
Totally awesome. Sickkk doublebass as well.
the only thing I can say: please put that snaredrum a bit harder in the mix (or some extra compression). It's not that George hits too soft, but in the mix, they should put the snaredrum a bit harder in it. Gogo :) You the man!!
pleasing snare tone!
@Feedthemeatgrinder thank you!!! glad someone finally said something. as metal heads we should unite. no fuck that, as music lovers we should unite.
Saw this song live a couple of weeks ago.... fuckin' awesome^^! My favourite drummer (and band)
In here Dallas is mostly talking over the song because it tells about erected Pazuzu (Ithyphallic) cursing his enemies
he says "it's the last one" , so no reason to ask my friend. get the DVD, its only 30€ and i got it right away when it came out, its worth it. you get a lot of motivation.
just epic song!!!
best DEATH metal drummer with Goulon!!!

Maestro.
so damn great !
them are some mighty double bass legs there, sir!
pause at, 2 :04, Look at his left foot. I just saw that. He's Clutching his high hat with his heel while keep his left foot ready.. simply amazing.
