King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie was actually pretty dam fun back in the day.
The worst parts about the differences between both games is the combat is WAY more animated with way more weight behind hitting things and also getting hit, but also during some segments as old Kong you could fairly smoothly wall run, climb up walls, and swing between large branches and they all transitioned really well.
It looks like one of those games you’d find in the Xbox Live Indie Arcade back in the 360 days.
Developers can say whatever they want about the cost of developing games. Competition means that there is a huge supply of games out there. So, there are only two ways for a game to sell: Either it has outstanding quality or sell it for much cheaper.
Yup, price sets expectations. So either make a great game and sell it full price or make a shit game and sell it really low

@@CartoonHangout Some devs do, but most don’t, that’s where communication is important, in all aspects from business to personal life. If you don’t communicate with your marketing team or producer or whoever is making the price point, they all need to be on the same page, and unfortunately that’s not always the case.

I have to say as a fan of giant monsters since I was like 4. I love the King Kong 2005 movie game. I had it on 360 and I honestly really like the gameplay. Both as a human or Kong.
I had no idea a Kong game was coming out and after seeing it I am just saddened that it seems rights holders for Kong and Godzilla just don't care about putting money into a good dev making an awesome game like the Pipeworks Godzilla games.
If anyone else likes Godzilla a game came out called Gigabash has paid DLC with , Kiryu (Mechagodzilla 3, Gigan and Heisei Godzilla.

I love watching Jaboody Show play bad games, they make it so entertaining. I loved their Gollum play through, I laughed so hard. Their play through of Kong is pretty good, but not as funny just because the game is so boring, but they still made it enjoyable.
This is so heartbreaking because this game was based in the canon of an awesome Kong novel by Joe DeVito that expanded on the original film's lore. The King Kong license deserves more quality video game titles under its belt

Gollum and Rise of Kong can be outdone by freaking NES games tbh. Some of those actually were more fun. Pokemon for the OG Gameboy (fat brick one) functioned better on the whole, and that game is infamous for it's glitches and exploits. Not to mention the stuff that was broken in Pokemon Red and Blue and Green was basically fun to utilize even if some of the more serious glitches could brick your game.
We need a review board similar to ESRB but for gaming quality and pricing. Completly independent from the companies selling this who could stop games like this

So...this may not be understood by most, but there are LOADS of things like this. Very bad, almost intentionally bad movies, tv shows, games, and comics. And you have never heard of them. Why? Licensing. From loose memory it's something like "if its not in use it becomes fair use after so long" so studios have so many c and d tier movies, games, comics, etc that no one has heard about. The reason we're hearing about them so often now is because digital media. It's cheaper and easier to digital media it, and in fact in some cases necessary (seriously, recently built a computer and it didn't expect me to have a CD drive) so more of these are being visible. Before this, it would be some super janky game that sent out less than 10,000 copies and would be in some very out of the way stores so it never would see a "proper release" where if anyone saw it, they'd assume it was some bootleg or weird creation by some fan and not the actual studio.
TLDR licensing laws basically make these mandatory for old properties to remain owned.

All these licensed games with no care or effort put into them reminds me of the old days with LJN buying up every license they could, pushing out some of the worst games ever made and hoping to make a profit solely on the strength of that license. Which earned licensed games a very bad reputation and didn't work out long term because people figured out pretty quickly that LJN was selling hot garbage. And that was before the rise of the Internet and user reviews. How do these modern companies think that strategy will work better for them?

It's such a disappointment when you consider just how great a game the 2005 King Kong game really was. That game nailed its atmosphere to the letter. It was genuinely scary sometimes; everything from the music to the total lack of any HUD just worked brilliantly.
There's also the fact the game literally looks better (at least the upgraded version released on the 360 and PS3), even being from 2005. Yeah, the modern game will beat it on the raw technical front, but the composition, lighting, colouring and just about everything in the game come together wonderfully to create something that looks far better with far worse technology. The game was great because it was an actual labour of love between Peter Jackson, Michel Ancel and his team.

A Kong game couldve been badass. Imagine a origin of a giant ape on skull Island fighting the giant monsters for dominance. They should've made it so that you were playing as a GIANT ape, Kong feels so tiny in that game....
If this was higher production with cooler graphics, more dev time etc, this concept could've been cool, but it's just waisted...
Not defending this game, but the reason they made Kong so small is because the game takes place during his adolescence.

The Kong game looks like one of those old plataformers for kids like the Gecko Agent game (Forgot the name) or Spyro, maybe kids could enjoy it but nowadays I feel adults are more prominent on the game scene and wouldn't stand for that quality

Oh yeah...the devs had an ungodly, and unnatural one year time limit to do something with this game. The publisher, Gamemiils well...they're well known for buying licenses and churning out garbo shovelware.

While King Kong is an overall shittier game, I would honestly play this over Gollum if they are free and I am forced to pick one. Here are my reasons:
1. I get to smack things as a gorilla instead of scurrying around caves as a wretched diaper wearing sub-goblin.
2. It is shorter so my suffering will be over quicker.

If memory serves, Rise of Kong got a 3/10 rating by IGN. They more or less call it the worst action game in the last twenty years and summarized the rating with "Skull Island: Rise of Kong is a boring, buggy, totally unambitious game that isn't even interesting in its failures." This is a game that IGN had absolutely nothing good to say about it.

What?!?! A company named Game Mill cheaply rushed out a bad video game. Say it ain't so.
I've seen PS2 games that look better than this garbage. Remember Grand Theft Auto 3? That was amazingly good, and they had to squeeze every drop of juice out of the PS2 hardware to do it. The sad thing is, their budget for Kong was probably higher than the budget Rockstar had for GTA3.
while I don't think graphics make a game great, still this just looks oh so bad. the price is insulting as well considering its quality - or lack thereof.
I stopped watching this guy when he praised cybperpunk a tonne before release, then when it came out it turned out to be a complete disaster.
So, I gotta ask, how much money was wasted for the development of this pile of hot garbage? There are indie games intentionally made to look like they were made in the late 90s-early 2000s and they look and play better than this. Hell, ACTUAL GAMES from those eras play as well or better than this!

At least Kong is conceptually sound. A by the numbers beat em up around Kong's origin story is a much more interesting video game idea than a Gollum stealth game with branching dialog and a morality meter
