Curious is their a domestic release of this available I heard because of a deal they made JP Godzilla films won't release for viewing the same year as the legendary produced stuff so Godzilla x Kong I thought had made that a no go but I'm seeing multiple reactions to it now I'm fine seeing it by alternative means first but I will definitely support it on official release as well wish I'd seen it in black and white
@DanielGonzalez-vo5ni No domestic release yet. You can still support the filmmakers but it involves you getting access to Prime Japan to watch the film and then burning in your own subtitles.
31:02 The way the actor delivered that scream, damn. How Kiochi starts just starts incoherently yelling with absolute fury and killing rage at Godzilla, then shifts into soul crushing anguish and pain. Perfect, just absolutely perfect. He deserved a best actor nom for his work in this film.
Fun fact: Steven Spielberg cited Godzilla as an inspiration for Jaws. The director of this movie, as you can see, was clearly inspired by Jaws. It all comes full circle.
Tachibana was a mechanic for the Kamikaze Suicide Squad. He had been maintaining the flying coffins of his friends who took off and never returned. Although it is not depicted in the movie, I think he must have been very sad. Shikishima was also a member of the suicide squad, but he did not take off. Shikishima tried to detonate himself with Godzilla as atonement for the war, but Tachibana gave him a way to live. Tachibana was finally able to make arrangements for his friends to survive.
As a Veteran of the GWoT, I can tell you, Shikishima's ordeal with PTSD and survivor's guilt hit HARD for me. God Bless ALL Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardsmen, Guardians, and Merchant Marines of our Military and the JSDF. 😇😇😇
Not wanting to downplay your trauma at all, but I also suffer from PTSD due to childhood abuse (specifically sexual abuse). This movie really hit home for me as well with how PTSD was handled. It was treated realistically yet also respectfully. PTSD, no matter how it's created in a person, is certainly a complicated and terrible thing to deal with.
I loved the message in the speech where he said basically, "In the war, they asked you to fight and die. This time, we're going to fight and LIVE." That's where I first started to tear up. Loved your reaction, keep them coming! \m/
Some contextual info that you might appreciate: 4:03 - This is one of my favourite bits of foreshadowing in the film. All of the fish have their organs ballooning out through their mouths which occurs as a result of them undergoing rapid depressurization from surfacing because they're escaping Godzilla (and later potentially dying to radiation) coming up from the deep. This is the exact same principle that eventually gets used in their final attack and is likely the inspiration for how he came up with the plan since it affected other life that lived in the deep with Godzilla. Another mention is at 6:30 the reason Godzilla is tossing them is because Toho explicitly has a rule that Godzilla doesn't eat people, so that's why the attack taking place at a smaller scale explicitly makes sure to show him attacking rather than predating on the humans. 31:03 - The heat from the blast turning everything to ash and then also causing rapid condensation of water vapor to create cumulonimbus clouds that gets seeded with the ash falls back down as black rain. In the atomic bombings, this also brought down fallout and meant that the survivors of the blast & heat were being drenched in radiation that would kill them several years later. There's a film titled *_Black Rain_* (released in 1989 but NOT the one of the same name in the same year by Ridley Scott) that is en excellent look at post-war Japan in this same time setting that's a really excellent watch if you're ever curious more about the time & tone of the setting here, especially with regards to the immediately post-war era survivor's guilt & PTSD that was experienced on a national level as well as on individual ones at that time. 37:47 - The Shinden was an incomplete fighter that never saw action, and one was taken by the Americans during the occupation and the other was dismantled. The one that was built for this film was also made to be incredibly accurate as it was anonymously set up as a museum piece before it was revealed to have been used in the film. As such there's a LOT of thematic association with the plane as part of an unrealized dream of a chance to save Japan from disaster that never came. Additionally, at 48:41 the fishing ships all coming to assist is also exceptionally poignant given that the Lucky Dragon 5 incident that inspired the original *_Godzilla_* in 1954 was because of the crew of a fishing boat dying to radiation contributing to overcoming that threat. 51:16 - The salute is because Godzilla is portrayed like a cursed spirit (tatarigami) where the hatred, pain, & rage is more of a reflection of what they're all experiencing that is inherited through contact rather than in a simple antagonistic way. This is why Godzilla is attacking Japan rather than being focused on the Americans who dropped the bomb, and it's a core part of both thematically why Japanese stories like this have a very specific way of focusing on the survivor's struggle with PTSD but especially in the emotional reflection of the creature (even *_Shin Godzilla_* had this in the lyrics to "Who Will Know" which played during the Tokyo attack). This also carries through into the ending where, like in *_Princess Mononoke,_* the curse of a Tatarigami isn't something that is easily broken even when it can be defeated and is a mark that grows on all it touches, spreading that pain even as it keeps them alive. She survived the physical and radiation damage from the attack on Ginza for the same reason that Godzilla is regenerating, while the earlier scene of the attack also implies that the black rain meant that he's invisibly being killed by radiation poisoning that won't be visible for a number of years despite everything he's done to constantly fight to survive. It's intended to be an ending that's deeply conflicting as neither fully tragic nor happy, but just a different turn of that core underlying struggle of what loss & survival look like that's why the film is called "Minus One" because it's all about thinking you've gone through the worst only to find out that it's possible to go through even more hardship and still keep going. Ever since the director's film *_Returner_* (which is a very Japanese scifi action flick that's a fun time), I've really loved how well he tells a human story within the framework of a fantastical setting, and Godzilla Minus One is fan and away his best, as well as easily being my favourite Godzilla film (and I've been watching them since I was 2). Your reactions and observations about the elements of film are always a delight, so hopefully this does a bit in giving some back to ya on this.
@@_Hissatsu Dude, it blew my mind when I found out he was the same director after seeing *_Minus One_* for the first time. Unknowingly having been a fan of his work for so long made me even happier to later see him at all the big events when the film was such a huge success. It's exciting to run into somebody else who also loved *_Returner_* and ta give you a reason to go rewatch it again. It's SUCH a blast!
@PierceArner dude yes! I remember I watched it twice and and I had forgotten the name of it. It was years later that I saw the movie in a pawn shop and realized I had found it again. I'm definitely gonna download it. So good!
I am a die-hard fan of the original 1954 Godzilla - but Ari said it for me: THIS is the Godzilla we've been waiting for: the monster of 1947 with 21st-Century technology. The ACTING - the STORY - the WRITING - I was immersed from the first scene. Media Knights, thank you for sharing this amazing motion picture with us!
This is truly the film I and many others have been waiting for. When I started this quest and watched all of the newer films they had elements of what I was hoping for. I found them extremely enjoyable but this….this hit the bullseye.
@@OfficialMediaKnights clearly/obviously in comparison 2 past/previous Standard Blue Atomic Breaths (Laser Beam of Pure Radiation) this has got 2 be the strongest/most powerful Standard Blue Atomic Breath the entire world has ever seen plus right 2 the point if this incarnation of Godzilla ever faced off against that Earth's incarnation of Mechagodzilla sometime after the events of this Film (whether Man Made or Extraterrestrial Made) the Force Field/Barrier that Earth's incarnation of Mechagodzilla will/would have 2 be incredibly/insanely durable/powerful/strong 2 block completely little low deflect the Standard Blue Atomic Breath right back at that Earth's incarnation of Godzilla!
The fact that this film had a $10-$12 million dollar budget and the way this film was made so beautifully and very well crafted with the VFX is completely mind-blowing. Godzilla Minus One truly deserved that Oscar, and now he's Godzilla, finally an Oscar winner along with his arch nemesis King Kong.
A super fan did a breakdown and Godzilla was on screen just over 12 minutes out of a just over 120 minute long movie, so about 10% and yet it's an amazing film! It was a human story with some Godzilla sprinkled in.
Fun fact: Ginza scene in which Noriko met Koichi was based on his true story. According to Takashi Yamazaki, he found out for his wife in Shibuya, and happened to spot her like Koichi after Great East Japan Earthquake happened ! He said, “I know there are some negative comments that it’s impossible for them to meet in the chaos situation. But you know there’s every chance that they meet!”
The fact you can see this Godzilla actively looking at the people he's attacking makes his rampage much more personal than others. These aren't just people getting in his way of smashing buildings, the buildings are in his way of crushing people.
The little girl crying and asking where’s mommy made me tear up while watching this in theaters. This film I really cared about all the human characters and wanted them to make it
@@androyus Shin Godzilla was good but it wasn't great, it has a multitude of flaws, not to say minus one doesn't have its own flaws, I just feel like Shin Godzilla could've had some more done to make it top tier (still better than all 5 MV Movies though)
A beautiful movie. A film not exactly about Godzilla, but about post-war Japan, community, and the scars that the imperialist war left on the people, with Godzilla as a figment of karma to heal. Easily one of my favorite films of the year. There were multiple rounds of applause during the film when I saw it in theaters. A masterpiece.
What’s on Noriko’s neck was Godzilla cell(G cell). after Godzilla did atomic breath at Ginza radio news anchor said They found Godzilla cells everywhere in Ginza that came from Godzilla. so When Noriko got shock wave She infected G cell That made Noriko recovered. Nobody can survive in that terrible shock wave normally. G cells give you regenerate ability but also G cells can change you to Kaiju and When Godzilla die that infected person dies also, but not sure those two for this time. That’s me and many Japanese people thinking about what was black thing on her neck. I enjoyed you guys reaction Thank you!
This is how you make a Godzilla film, the human element is handled so well and capturing the dark tones of war, survivors guilt/ptsd. But capturing the beautiful themes like yall said of redemption, forgiveness, and working together to build a better future. This isnt a godzilla film but a war drama with godzilla. I wish for all the success and if they make a sequel hopefully itll capture the essence but its fine as a standalone. But also one of the best atomic breathe scenes ever!
That German ejector seat call was epic - I've seen this four times in the theater, had no idea. Regarding that thing on her neck at the end, the director has implied that she was imbued with Godzilla DNA which helped her survive the blast. And yes, it did move. The black and white version, a nod to the '54 film, is amazing as well.
My brother and I are huge aviation fans so we were super excited when we saw the fighter and we were nudging each other in the theater, pointing out the ejector seat.
As a near-lifelong Godzilla fan, I feel that this is the best Godzilla film ever made. No other film in this franchise has given me the emotional reaction that I got from this.
I say this as an American: we shouldn’t be allowed to make Godzilla movies. EVER. We always mess him up. Only the Japanese can get Big G right, because they love him and will always love him more than we possibly could.
@@hothotheat3000 Also because his concept is a direct result of us bombing them with nukes of course, its insensitive on the USA's end to say the least (more specifically who wrote it); Especially removing him from the concept of being a nuclear abomination/mutant in the MV series
This was the movie that made me remember how much i liked having actual scores in movies. the sound design, the art and lighting, everything was just so right. It's the first movie I saw 4 times in theaters in a long, long time, and was trying to get other people to go see it with me each time after the first because I really wanted other people to see it.
Bold statement! If it were not for one little movie that never made it to theaters, I would also have Godzilla as my number one (2020-2024 so far). It is my 2nd favorite of the decade so far. Another monster movie is number one by the name of Prey!
This won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects! You can see why as the VFX artists put a lot of love, time, and effort into making this one of the best Godzilla movies ever made.
Indeed the CGI is very good for the budget they had but they can't outmatch the CGI of the Hollywood Godzilla movies. Imagine if japs had 10x more money.
Man the amount of hours, love, sweat and tears that went into the VFX...you can just tell. The amount of love and passion the team had for this project. Godzilla looked incredible. The lighting, the textures...everything about it looked phenomenal. The final mic drop was that atomic breath sequence!
I don’t need to preface this as the best Godzilla movie ever, it’s one of THE best movies ever. An instant classic, with mastery of the craft at all levels. Bravo Toho, and the team they assembled to make this.
I watched this earlier at like 330am cause I couldn't sleep, I'm still up at 12 noon baffled. I haven't had more fun with a movie in decades. Was legit watching it as if it was a Hollywood film, in the background, as entertainment. Didn't expect to actualy react vocally when certain scenes went down, even in the first 20 minutes I was hollering. Wow. Wow. Wow.
I watched 2 days ago, i was speechless, it's the best Godzilla movie by far. A movie about redemption, from both the main character and Japan as an all. "Is your war finally over?" must be the greatest line i ever heard.
Such an incredible movie. The ONLY Godzilla movie that managed to make me actually care about the human characters which made the threat from Godzilla so much more real and so much more tension-filled. Genuinely a modern masterpiece. I also love that it was citizens beating Godzilla. Not an army or the government. Just people trying to defend their country (even though a lot of them did spend time in the army)
So satisfying watching these TH-cam reactions of the ending, as they try to talk thier way through the scene, knowing thats thier best shot to not cry thier eyes out.
I’ll never forget seeing this in the theater and how everyone was like “HOLY SHIT” the first time he used atomic breath on land. No one was expecting it to be that powerful.
Only Godzilla movie to ever win an Oscar, had only a $15 million budget and was not made by Hollywood. After the ginza attack the reporter mentioned that there were bits of Godzilla's flesh left at the scene. Confirmed by director that Noriko came in contact with flakes of Godzilla's skin. These have g-cells, Godzilla cells, which have regenerative properties. It's implied that Noriko survived because the g-cells kept her alive, giving her a weaker version of Godzilla's healing powers. In old films these cells were used to create other monsters that Godzilla fought.
This film is a complete and utter triumph. The very first Japanese Godzilla film I saw in theatres and being a UK fan it was totally humbling. It deserves everything it has received and I'm so glad you guys got to experience it for yourselves.
I was waiting for this moment finally for you guys to finally watch this movie...I had watch it in IMAX on the limited run it had in the US and the theatre was absolutely shaking...by the end of the movie...everyone was crying at the end when Nori was alive. This is the best Godzilla in a long time and the story telling was so humanizing that it left you drained and joyful in the end. Thank you both for putting this up finally and being the best reaction channel IMO. Keep up the great work you two!
Saw this one in theaters three times and my wife - the Godzilla superfan - saw it four times. It was incredible every time. It feels like a genuine live-action anime, a disaster epic, a pulse-pounding war drama, and a gut-wrenching period piece all rolled into one.
This movie was by far my favourite movie of 2023. If I remember correctly, 'Minus One' in the title is in reference to Japan having to start again from zero after WW2 but with the emergence of Gojira, it pushes it further to -1.
The human story is so engaging that you forget it's a Godzilla movie. It also means real stakes and losses later since you now have characters you love and care about.
mmhmm unlike other movies i'm like screw human beings they keep messing with something they don't understand this movie it makes you feel sympathetic to the humans to Koichi the last time i cried during A godzilla movie was 1995 Godzilla Vs Destroyah
The greatest Godzilla film of all time. So far that is... I've been a fan since I was a kid in the 1970's watching Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster (yeah I know it's really Hedorah...) on TV. Then it was the other films on TV and some of the Showa films in the theater back then, the Hanna Barbera cartoon, the Shogun Warrior Godzilla (which I still have), the Marvel Godzilla comics of the late 1970s... and now the later and modern films, toys, collectibles, etc. I'm 56 years old and this was the first Godzilla film that really, really, REALLY made me cry... Amazing.
Firstly, I'm glad that yall took the time to experience this movie, it was so amazing. A movie that slipped under the radar of so many people because it was a "Godzilla film" and probably because there are people that hate reading subtitles, which is ashame. However, watching it on a computer screen is such a disservice to this film. I watched this in a Dolby Atmos theater and my goodness, the score and sound heightens the already impressive visuals, exponentially. To truly experience this film is to see it on the big screen with a phenomenal sound system. Everyone talks about the visuals, story, and acting, but the score and sound is something this film doesn't get enough credit for. It was such an amazing experience, I saw this movie 4 times in theaters! Something I've never done with any movie. Can't wait to buy and own this amazing film!
I don't know how much it slipped under the radar for people because it was a Godzilla film. The buzz was real for this film. It wasn't going to do Monsterverse numbers but the word did get out about G-1 and It made over 115M globally off of a 10M production budget and it won an Oscar for VFX . Plus it returned to theaters for one week remastered in black white retitled Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color so the film was very successful as people did catch it in theaters.
If you ask me, only one oscar nomination (though they won) was less than what this movie deserved.. the screenplay is fantastic, the sound, the score and the editing were just beyond my expectations
This was so good that I can’t even begin to express my love and enjoyment for such a triumph. I’ve got to give it to Takashi Yamazaki for making this monstrous, emotional, outstanding masterpiece. This is the first Godzilla film in history to win the Academy Award for Visual Effects.
@1:03:55 the thing on her neck is from G-cells... G-Cells are just Godzilla's cells and genetic material. Godzilla vs. Biollante established Godzilla's cells as a plot point, introducing the idea that they're highly sought after by organizations and governments for genetic engineering... It's also mentioned that Godzilla's mutant DNA is why he's invulnerable to conventional weapons, his cells rapidly self-heal (like Wolverine).
@@LetsGetitBoah G-cells help with healing and have mutative effects so they most likely have saved the young ladies life during the attack but who knows how the G-cells may affect her later? Good sequel material.
@@I-Am-Klausaccording to the director if a sequel does happen not only they would have to address the G cells in that woman's neck but there will be another monster for Godzilla to fight. But this is the weird part despite the huge success of minus one Toho has not greenlit a sequel
They made sure that Godzilla's roar was consistent of the 1954 Godzilla's roar. The entire movie was just absolutely phenomenal how they made you so invested in the human characters to show you that after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki they pretty much had nothing but when Godzilla came into the picture..... they had less than nothing And the best part of it is the score for the entire movie , especially using the original Godzilla Theme🤩🤩 I am so glad this movie got an Oscar, even if it's only for visual effects And the Director even said that the black marking on the woman's neck was Godzilla cells
This movie was under the budget of 15 million! The Flash which had really bad cgi used about 150 million! In under 15 million we got this masterpiece plus it won the oscar for best visual effects. I love it
The 15 million budget isn't a good thing. Japanese film industry is infamous for underpaying and work crunching their vfx artist to an even greater extent than Hollywood due to a lack on industry wide unions. Even Yamazaki refuses to put out a hard number because more studios will want him to make more movies on that budget. He also wants to work in Hollywood himself, saying he wants to make a Star Wars film. He isn't some anti-hollywood rebel people think he is.
@@AlexSciChannel Some reasons why it costed way less than people expected it to be where it was made from. comparing the cost of living in America and Japan for example, and the cost of hiring "overpaid" actors in America compared to Japan. that's one huge factor why Hollywood movies cost way much more compared to movies made overseas.
explaining the the minus one title: after world war 2, japan was back to "0". they are essentially clinging to anything they have and godzilla showing up in japan is a threat that can destroy the remaining things they have. basically godzilla threatens them to go from back to "0" to "minus 1".
I was born in 1964 (not that that really has anything to do with anything), and I grew up with all the Godzilla movies and loved them all. the scariest one I ever saw at the theater was Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster (a.k.a. Hedora). In the mid 1980's I served in the Navy and visited Japan a few times, and of course, knowing the history between the U.S. and Japan since WWII. and considering the relationship America has had with Japan since then, I was always struck with the Godzilla movies; how Japan used Godzilla as a metaphor for Atomic/Nuclear weapons at the beginning, and how Godzilla eventually became an ally with Man as he fought against other Kaiju (especially Hedora; as a metaphor for pollution) in later movies. and since the first ever Godzilla movie, Americans not only love the movie(s), but also cheer for Japan's victory against any kaiju that attacks them. Only those geniuses at ToHo could think of the idea of using such a destructive force as atomic weapons, and turn it into a "monster" for them to deal with! And something else: this Godzilla's atomic breath was such an unexpected surprise! not just his breath melting whatever he uses it against, but CAUSING an atomic explosion with it himself! Fantastically done!👏👏👏👏👏
This is litterally one of the best movies of 2023 as it's very rare to see movies that would make make anyone cry now these days. When I got to see it in theaters, throughout the movie there were parts that made me cry from how good it was for the first experience of this movie. I've enjoyed this movie alot and I hope someday it gets to dvd and blueray
For the record it's very unclear - they use male pronouns and always have but he/it also inexplicably has a son if you're treating movies as canon. In the Emmerich movie he/it just kind of laid eggs but it was never explained in that one either.
They killed it! I hope after the success this had they do more and with the same quality. It's time to let passionate filmmakers take over ❤️ Also thank you!
You missed out, not seeing this on the big screen. I was of the mind that they could have easily taken out all the Godzilla content in this movie and focused on the disgraced soldier and it still would have been a great movie. Likewise with the Godzilla stuff, by itself, it would have been awesome. But then they put it all together and made a kickass movie. I think this movie should have been up for best picture, director, screenplay, actor, actress, and just about every major Oscar award you can think of. It was nominated and won best special effects, the nom for ANY Godzilla movie in 70 years! I am so glad my so dragged me to see this movie at the theater!
I cannot even begin to tell you how epic the heat ray scene was in treaters. You could literally feel its impact, you felt as hopeless as the citizens.
It was so worth seeing this movie in theaters! It was such a surreal experience ❤ definitely one of if not the best Godzilla movie I have ever seen in my life! This movie a so deserved the Oscar!! Godzilla is the scariest he’s ever been and the characters are so incredible! The action is intense and amazing! I love your reaction so much! Thank you for watching this masterpiece!!✨♥️😊
I've been loving all of your Godzilla reactions! The new swag from the Godzilla store is awesome! I've been a Godzilla fan my whole life and have an entire room dedicated to all my figures, posters, artwork and other Godzilla collectibles.
Love the soundtrack of this movie. Not only do we get some classic scores from the older films, but the original tracks for this movie are also incredible. From when Godzilla attacks the battlecruiser you can feel how hopeless it is. And when Shikishima's flying the plane in the countryside you start to feel hopeful.
As I have said, we are now in a post Godzilla Minus One world. I wish I had seen GxK before this. No matter how much to try to reset your expectations and tell yourself it is a different type of movie, a different type of Godzilla. They are completely different stories etc, no matter how low I tried to set my expectations and knew what I was going to GxK for, and don't get me wrong - I did enjoy what I got from GxK - I still felt a little empty walking out of it compared to walking out of Godzilla Minus One. This is the absolutely terrifying, destructive force of nature Godzilla should be - even when nominally on our side, and the standard to which all other Godzilla movies will be judged. This is a post Godzilla Minus One world now
watching this movie in theaters was an experience, I loved the sound design.. .it left me shaking during the roars and the atomic blast! ... so glad you guys are watching this now, I discovered this channel not too long ago and has quickly become one of my favorite reaction channels! keep up the great content!
The dinner table scene is, hands-down, one of the best in the film. "We're not married and that's not my kid" and all his friends looking at him like "no dude you're married and that's your kid, you just don't know yet" is the best. I also love the end of the anti-Godzilla plan, where all the CIVILIANS show up and save the day, and only by literally discarding the last remnant of the physical manifestation of the fatalism inherent to Japanese culture do they finally succeed in defeating their monster.
1) _LOVING_ both of your reactions. 2) I have to check out your _Shin Godzilla_ reaction after this. 3) And, after that, I'm going to watch _Godzilla Minus One_ again. Even though I just watched it again yesterday. Easily, for me, the best Godzilla movie ever made!
When the leader of the mechanics said "live" touching his heart...i couldn't stop myself of crying for the whole rest of the movie. Wow. Just wow. 10/10
The themes really get to you guys, huh. I loved how Ari's eyes actually showing hints of tears as he talked about the heavy themes in this movie... in particular the part about survivor's guilt, brought upon acts that can be considered to be cowardice and treasonous to the country. How to war within oneself on wanting to live again. You guys are soo passionate its amazing.
Seeing this movie was so emotional for me because I lost my father last year and he was a big Godzilla fan as just as I am. I still recall the night he introduce me to Godzilla - King Of the Monsters (1956). You would be proud Dad that Godzilla is still kicking ass and taking names and bringing it to new fans of the Kaiju film genre. Not only did this film won VFX at the Oscars. But this film corrected so many mistakes that previous Godzilla films made. In my mind - if you are looking for a pure definition of a Godzilla film minus the cheese, and the other monsters then this film would be the correct response (And of course the correct response would be 1954 original obviously lol)
This film can be said to be a remake that follows the theme of the original 1954 Godzilla movie. it's a drama about the battle between Godzilla, who has become the embodiment of nuclear power, and humans desperately trying to survive after the defeat of the nuclear bomb. The film recounts the actual hydrogen bomb test conducted by the United States at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. In fact, Godzilla was created by director Eiji Tsuburaya as a result of an incident involving an ocean-going tuna fishing boat that was exposed to radiation during the test. Now, Yamazaki has produced G Minus One, a return to Godzilla's origins, with the hopes that Tsuburaya had placed in Godzilla. The scene where Godzilla bites the train was symbolic, as a sign of Yamazaki's respect for Tsuburaya. thanks from🇯🇵🙇🏻♂️
Loved how this film felt like it was going back to the roots of the character. This felt like the true modernization of the 1954 classic I've been asking for. How Godzilla is a clear metaphor for nuclear destruction and how that is contrasted by humanity working together and not giving up...what a film! Thanks for the additional insight. This was a great read. Sending all the love to Japan! ❤️
Thank you for your reply. I'm amazed at the wonderful response. Eiji Tsuburaya was the first special effects director in Japan, and Godzilla is a masterpiece. Most of the Kaijyu movies made in Japan were directed by him. On Japanese television, Ultra Q, Ultraman, and Ultra Seven are his representative works. Sorry my bad grammar🙇♂️
at 52:24 the director confirms that these markings are actually godzilla's DNA in which there is a monster that is a combination of Godzilla, Plant/nature, and human called Biollante - possibly setting up the next movie
@@joshdavidson6082If I had to guess, this is the last we'll see of this family. I think the G-cells will be what helped her, and many other blast victims, survive such a ridiculous blast at close range - due to boosted healing. This would lead to government experiments on the cells, leading to biollante.
@@TheMooRam my thoughts exactly. As soon as i saw the mark, it reminded me of Biollante, but the question remained how she took so little damage from the blast. your comment made those pieces fit. Thank you!
man i had the opportunity to see this in the theaters with my son. Ive never seen him glued to a screen like that before and me being a life long Godzilla fan, im 53, this was hands down the best version ive ever seen and ive seen so many since the 70s lol. Love the relationship between this group of friends and you really come to care for them as the movies goes on. i found your channel by chance and my wife saw me watching this and said oooh i love those reactors!! lol. then she made me stop watching it at the time cause she wants to watch the movie first so im in my office watching it solo lol. Anyway, ive since subbed! great reaction! She's right, you guys are fun to watch!
They made this film because of Shin Godzilla, lets just say that THIS film is so much better! It cost $15 million to make and it's made 10 times as much in the box office. THIS is how you make a Godzilla movie.
There's only 1 problem with this movie: it's SO good, that certain types of people come out of the woodwork to use this as a way to insult Hollywood and the Monsterverse, rather than enjoying having 2 different Godzillas at the same time. Complaining about America ruining Godzilla and acting like this movie and the original are the only movies Japan has done, ignoring all the Showa era movies that were made to be fun campy films
Honestly I'm so happy that we have two very different Godzilla movies that embrace both sides that the character has depicted in. Also might sound weird considering Minus One budget, but for a massive scale Hollywood Godzilla film costing 135 million is pretty good considering movies like The Flash cost 300 million and don't look as good
Operation Wada Tsumi is my favorite anti-Godzilla plan because of how much sense it makes with the rapid drop in pressure and the immediate rise to the surface which caused Godzilla's body to breakdown and Koichi finishing him off was brilliant
ooh we actually watched this nite before our 10 day trip to Japan! We got photos of that theater (where this premiered) with Godzilla on top! Never thought that a Godzilla movie would make me cry. By far the best Godzilla film! 🦖
Saw this 3 times in IMAX i loved it so much. I've never shed any tears in a Godzilla movie as I did in this. Everyone in the Theater was emotional right along with me. Dam near a perfect movie and it being a Godzilla movie is so remarkable..... 💚💚💚💚💚

We’d definitely recommend you go watch the film first. Open up a Prime Japan account, get the subtitles in English online and burn them in so you can understand what’s being said. That’s pretty much how we got around it.

Being a Godzilla fan since I was eight or nine years old and now 50, I am so happy to see such a great effort put into this franchise. Stunning achievement❤!
I had this waiting in the queue to watch and saw your video pop up this morning - so I just watched it and I loved it! Checking out your video now is like watching it with friends!
This movie showed so much to Hollywood. Theaters were dying. This and Maverick were absolutely telling Hollywood, "hey, MAKE GOOD MOVIES AND WE WILL SHOW UP". They're just so far up their own asses they refuse to do so. I saw this in theaters with my wife - who isn't a huge fan of this stuff - and we left just amazed and discussed it the whole way home. What a fantastic film. I don't think it needs a sequel, but I'm sure I'll watch if one hits.
It was so terrifying to see him actually be a terror and I loved it. I saw it in theaters and even growing up with him I never found him actually scary and he was horrifying in this movie. Ugh such an amazing movie. I need everyone to see this amazing film!
Out of all the emotional weight in this movie, Tachibanas sigh of relief when he hears Koichi made it out alive is what gets me. God there's just so much to say about how great Minus One is.
Yesss, I've been waiting for this! My favorite Godzilla film, and really, one of the best films in general, that I have ever seen! It's the first such movie that had me in tears, multiple times during its runtime. I really appreciate you guys waiting to see this for us!
Great movie, took my dad to see it and even though he couldn't read the subtitles (macular degeneration) he still understood most of it. We both love the original Godzilla with Raymond Burr as the news reporter.
This variant of Godzilla is total a-hole. It may not be among the strongest variant of Godzilla but he sure is terrible and destructive. Literally woke up and chose destruction. Koichi's feeling of helplessness, despair and extreme hatred towards Godzilla has the same intensity of emotion showed by Haruo Sakaki in Netflix animated Godzilla(Planet of the Monster). The thing you saw on her neck is G-CELL. :)
Watched it with my brother, it had us in tears when Koichi read the telegram and Sumiko just slapping his jacket it's like telling How dare you leave Akiko alone, She is alive Noriko is alive, but in softer and empathizing way. That's when everything breaks down to us. The actors who portrayed Koichi and Tachibana really give their emotions not just acting for this movie you can feel both their pains and frustration and also the guilt that was lifted from the both of them. This is by far the best Godzilla we've watched. You should also watch Rurouni Kenshin trilogy both actors are in their too!.
It's such an awesome movie 🎥🎥 I think I watched all Godzilla Movies and this is one of the best I've ever seen. Perfect in all aspects. Awesome reaction Thanks 🙏

@@OfficialMediaKnights OHHH the guy who directed this is already working on a sequel....
Fun fact: Steven Spielberg cited Godzilla as an inspiration for Jaws. The director of this movie, as you can see, was clearly inspired by Jaws. It all comes full circle.
"SMILE YOU SON OF A!"
Also today, Spielberg regrets he villainized sharks
Jaws -1.0 coming 2027.
And Spielberg mentions he's seen Minus one three times. What a cycle.
All the kids Steven Spielberg sexually abused should file a lawsuit towards him.
And WE ALL SALUTE YOU RIGHT BACK, SIR! " 'TEN HUT "!!
I'm sure that resonated especially with Japanese audiences.
Some contextual info that you might appreciate:
4:03 - This is one of my favourite bits of foreshadowing in the film.

Good point. He's not just blindly and randomly attacking and destroying (well apart from using his tail!) but is focused and picks targets.
It's one of the reasons why Toho made this version much smaller than the Monsterverse version. It can interact with humans on a more personal level.

I heard a same theory about biollante having goji's cells and once a human too
This is how you make a Godzilla film, the human element is handled so well and capturing the dark tones of war, survivors guilt/ptsd.

Amazing.
Not just a kaiju film, Godzilla Minus One is actually high art, along the lines of Gone With the Wind and Rebel Without A Cause.
Plus it returned to theaters for one week remastered in black white retitled Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color so the film was very successful as people did catch it in theaters.

cinematography as well, personally. and the sound mixing and the score are sooo good.
This was so good that I can’t even begin to express my love and enjoyment for such a triumph. I’ve got to give it to Takashi Yamazaki for making this monstrous, emotional, outstanding masterpiece. This is the first Godzilla film in history to win the Academy Award for Visual Effects.
He set a new standards for what we the audience expect when seeing Godzilla films. What a guy!
@1:03:55 the thing on her neck is from G-cells... G-Cells are just Godzilla's cells and genetic material. Godzilla vs. Biollante established Godzilla's cells as a plot point, introducing the idea that they're highly sought after by organizations and governments for genetic engineering... They made sure that Godzilla's roar was consistent of the 1954 Godzilla's roar. The entire movie was just absolutely phenomenal how they made you so invested in the human characters to show you that after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki they pretty much had nothing but when Godzilla came into the picture..... they had less than nothing
And the best part of it is the score for the entire movie , especially using the original Godzilla Theme🤩🤩
I am so glad this movie got an Oscar, even if it's only for visual effects
And the Director even said that the black marking on the woman's neck was Godzilla cells
The best Godzilla film no doubt
@@AlexSciChannel The people on set, a few of them knew cgi and they taught themselves and passed the knowledge onto others. Hence reducing the cost
@johnP0908 Most of a movie's budget comes from the vfx. So I mainly focused on that
The Flash cost over 300 mil thanks to all the reshoots.
explaining the the minus one title: after world war 2, japan was back to "0". they are essentially clinging to anything they have and godzilla showing up in japan is a threat that can destroy the remaining things they have. basically godzilla threatens them to go from back to "0" to "minus 1".
Saw the movie three times in theaters. One of the best movie experiences ever.
Also, for the record, Godzilla is a male: KING of the Monsters
That must have been such a blast at the theatres!!
For the record it's very unclear - they use male pronouns and always have but he/it also inexplicably has a son if you're treating movies as canon. In the Emmerich movie he/it just kind of laid eggs but it was never explained in that one either.
@@LudusAureaIn the 1998 film he is also male.
Calm down buddy 😂
@@LudusAureaDragón Ball Piccolo laid an egg and DBZ Piccolo was born. Also Seahorsed give birth. I think he’s a male cause he is King not Queen.
Who better to make a Godzilla movie than the creators of Godzilla himself, Japan!
(Denise's jacket is awesome, I need one)
They killed it! I hope after the success this had they do more and with the same quality. It's time to let passionate filmmakers take over ❤️ Also thank you!
To be fair….. did Japan create Godzilla? (Technically)
Denise is a beauty ❤
I saw this in the theater in IMAX. It was an experience. You felt Godzilla's movements and destruction. It was incredible.
Oh I don't doubt that! Seeing this on an Imax screen must've been THE experience.
Man! I'd love to collect some more Godzilla goodies! I want a bigger Godzilla figure. Honestly Japan was the spot for that kind of stuff!
This is a post Godzilla Minus One world now
Hell yeah!!! This film moved me, I cried 4 times. This one is one for the ages, I know you 2 will love it!
watching this movie in theaters was an experience, I loved the sound design.. .it left me shaking during the roars and the atomic blast! ... so glad you guys are watching this now, I discovered this channel not too long ago and has quickly become one of my favorite reaction channels! keep up the great content!
They were looking at him like “are you insane, you have this lovely lady and this adorable child, how have you not married her?!”
We need more Godzilla movies like this. Loved it.
The snout of this Godzilla is like Charmander or Dragonite hehe 😅 cute
I though of Charmander too! haha
*Boop 👆🏼
You and I have VERY different definitions of cute
@@Riconort look at its face while chasing their boat. 😅
@@serial92989I laughed out loud.. 😅
Let’s go!! I saw this film 3 times in theaters, 2 in color and once in black in white. It’s in my top 5 movies of all time. Glad you guys enjoyed it
When the leader of the mechanics said "live" touching his heart...i couldn't stop myself of crying for the whole rest of the movie. Wow. Just wow. 10/10
I had no right crying this much during a kaiju film.
This film is an utter masterpiece.
Oh man...doesn't sound like a happy ending after all but also Biollante!? Would love to see a new iteration of that 😄
@@OfficialMediaKnights the biollante is a guess based off of godzillas dna being in the girl, as that hasn’t been confirmed or not unfortunately.
Thank you!
Bruh I'm thinking the same thing ugh l hope there no one of our favorite character die from the government BS
man i had the opportunity to see this in the theaters with my son.
Agreed! We love both iterations for different reasons. Honestly we’re not mad at all we get to watch 2 different Godzilla films this year 😄
Couldn’t agree more 👏🏾
What a great time to be a Godzilla fan with the different interpretations
I think mocking Hollywood's waste of money is perfectly legit.
Honestly I'm so happy that we have two very different Godzilla movies that embrace both sides that the character has depicted in. Also might sound weird considering Minus One budget, but for a massive scale Hollywood Godzilla film costing 135 million is pretty good considering movies like The Flash cost 300 million and don't look as good
One of the best things about this Godzilla movie is that it makes you care about the human characters, even the side characters.
Please don't step on them!
Operation Wada Tsumi is my favorite anti-Godzilla plan because of how much sense it makes with the rapid drop in pressure and the immediate rise to the surface which caused Godzilla's body to breakdown and Koichi finishing him off was brilliant
minus one is so good, i agree, it definitely feels like an old school godzilla movie just with modern cgi
ooh we actually watched this nite before our 10 day trip to Japan! We got photos of that theater (where this premiered) with Godzilla on top!
Never thought that a Godzilla movie would make me cry. By far the best Godzilla film! 🦖
This was SO GREAT at the cinema! Top, top tier 😅🔥
Gaaahhh can't even imagine, it must have been a blast!
Yeah man those atomic breath and roar scenes nearly made me fall out of my damn chair in cinemas lol
Saw this 3 times in IMAX i loved it so much.
I've never shed any tears in a Godzilla movie as I did in this.
Everyone in the Theater was emotional right along with me.
Dam near a perfect movie and it being a Godzilla movie is so remarkable.....

I've been avoiding people that finally watches the Godzilla Minus One movie for a while now, several other youtubers are reacting the movie, and now you guys are reacting to it as well, I can't resist the temptation, I haven't watch it yet but watching it with you guys is an awesome experience.
We’d definitely recommend you go watch the film first. Open up a Prime Japan account, get the subtitles in English online and burn them in so you can understand what’s being said. That’s pretty much how we got around it.

I had this waiting in the queue to watch and saw your video pop up this morning - so I just watched it and I loved it!
Checking out your video now is like watching it with friends!
I love the fact that even after seeing it in theaters when he goes to do his atomic breath, my hair still stands up....
Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One are AMAZING
I did my part for you! And got my bestie to see it too!! Only about 7 billion more to go, at a guess.
This has easily become one of our favorite films from 2023. The acting, the story, the VFX and the themes. All of it was just perfect!
At 3:38, that's actual historical fact. Some Kamikaze pilots did lose their nerve, others couldn't find their targets, and a select few were cowards.
ゴジラマイナス1は人間にスポットが当たり、素晴らしいドラマがありました。ゴジラは戦争、原爆の象徴として主人公の前に現れ、トラウマを乗り越えゴジラを皆で倒すというシナリオは最高でした。
He’s a grumpy one for sure! 😂
Toho cooked with this one y’all!
This is one of my all time favorites now.
This movie god damn the best. My two favourite 1. G-1
2. Shin godzilla
It's such an awesome movie 🎥🎥 I think I watched all Godzilla Movies and this is one of the best I've ever seen. Perfect in all aspects. Awesome reaction Thanks 🙏
