100% ! I upgraded from the R to the R6 about 6 months ago. My concerns about dropping from 30MP to 20MP quickly vanished. The improved dynamic range, improved ergonomics and menus, an AF system that is light-years ahead of what the R/RP have to offer, dual card slots and IBIS make the R6 a "no-brainer" if you don't have the budget or need for the R5. And I DO crop in the range of 20% to 50% sometimes. Gigapixel AI is a big help with that.
Hi Alex. Well thought out video. I’m a former Canon shooter who kept his lenses but sold the camera body’s. I ‘m currently shooting Sony which is very good. I bought a used Canon EOS R. The ergonomics with the battery grip and touch screen, I’m really enjoying it. After testing the Canon R6 in Best Buy. As a Sony shooter I can truly say Canon has arrived again. In due season, I will have the Canon R6. Thanks again.
I purchased the Canon R6 when it first came out and it is such an amazing camera. The low light capabilities are really good. Canon finally stepped its game up. The auto focus is ridiculously amazing. Even when using the EF adapter with the nifty fifty f1.8 the picture come out amazing and I believe it’s faster at focusing than when it used to be on my Canon RP. The only downside I believe is the price of their lenses. I would love to get the RF 85 F1.2 but I’m still not within that type of budget range , I try to stick around $1,800 range. That just means that for my type of work I’m still in a lower bracket, however, overall this camera is amazing. Great review! I was wondering when we would see this.
Great video. I just shot my first wedding with the R6 and a 6D second body. The R6 gives you so much confidence it really helped bring down the pressure nerves on the day. Think I’ll save for a second R6 now!
Hey Alex, i’m a wedding photographer who shoots with 2 camera bodies. I wanted to change my 5dmrk3 for a r6 but keep my 5dmrk4 as the second camera body. Are the colors the same? I usually use lightroom to retouch and import all my pictures there. Do you think working with both 5dmrk4 and r6 will work well together?
Would love your honest opinion. Last March(2020) I Picked up the RP. It's a great little camera. I've been primarily using it for couples, maternity and family photos. All my shoots are currently outdoors, and the RP has served this purpose admirably. Over the next few months I have taken on some small weddings. With that comes the desire for at least 2 cameras. So I have been considering getting the R6 as my primary and using the RP as the backup/secondary camera for some situations. The R6 would bring in 2 card slots(probably a requirement for weddings), better eye AF, focus speed, shutter speed, low light performance etc... But I have also considered just picking up another RP and maybe picking up some new glass such as one of the following RF 50mm 1.2, the 85 1.2 or the 70-200. I currently have the EF 135, Tamron 35 1.4, RF 85 F2, and the EF 50mm 1.8. So in some respect, I'd love to upgrade the 50mm as that focal length is one of my favourites and the 135 provides that nice portrait lens. But getting the R6 would hamper that(at least for now). I do feel that my lens collection is quite serviceable, and the R6 might breath some extra life into them. My biggest concern with going for a second RP are the reasons for going with the R6 and secondly, I feel like I'd probably just end up upgrading the second RP after a few months resulting in me spending more money anyways. With all that said, what do you think! I appreciate any response as this is a long question.
Hi my name is George Murray I am a 62 year-old male I like what you have to say about the Canon EOS R6 because at first I was going to get the Canon 1dx Mark II but now I'll be getting bit Heroes R6 because it's so light and at 12 frames 20 frames electronic so I ordered it
Great review mate! It was obvious which one was which, but it was the colors and rendering that gave the R6 away. That 1DXIII Sensor just has an amazingly warm and smooth look to it. R5 is super good also, but it's just a tad more surgical and cooler. Depending in the subject, you can get away with quite some cropping on the R6 in my experience. On portraits, it really isn't much of a problem. On group shots where the faces are tiny already, you are limited. But the R6 being a professional tool, I don't think that is much of a problem. If you can't compose if you really need to, you are in the wrong business :D Also, the actual resolution is something that often get's forgotten. And the R6 happens to resolve super high. So high actually, that it bests some of it's 24MP competitors. In low light, it is even better than the 30MP EOS R. I would go so far to say if you are not a birder or an architectural photographer or you need to crop like crazy since your subjects are just completely eratic, the R5s 45MP will bring you nothing but drawbacks. I am a left eye shooter so the touchscreen us super cumbersome to use for me, so I love the joystick. Especially, since it resets the AF point when pressed. The EVF does perform exactly the same in terms of refresh rate (keep in mind that you can change it from 60 to 120Hz in the settings on both the R6 and R5). It's just a little lower resolution (still higher than the competition, so super good anyways).
Excellent review. Glad to be a new subscriber! I used to own a 5D III and now I am on the verge of getting an R6 with RF glass. Since you are a wedding photographer, I’m sure you have a lot of your images printed. I always wanted to have gallery quality prints made for display, up to 20x30, and never managed to do so, but now intend to. That is my priority. No video at all. Would the R6 yield good results in prints that won’t make me look at them and wonder whether I should have splurged for the R 5 instead?
the thing is tho, you actually need to be able to crop for wedding photos because if the couple or their family order different size prints or canvas's that require "wrapping" around the edges, then you have to be able to produce crops that cater for those different needs. Plus I would argue that its next to impossible to nail your composition in every single photo across a wedding day.
Hola Alex, pusiste la gota que completo el vaso para decidir que camara comprar, definitivamente comprare una canon R6 y si fuera posible que hagas tutoriales de detras de camara de la canon R6 en español seria fantastico!!!!
Great video..thanks for sharing your insights. I am switching from Nikon to Canon (I’ve never shoot Canon before), I’m struggling to decide between the R6 and the R5
Hello great review. Do you think this can be a third body in a Leica setup? I shoot the SL2-S and Q2? I think you did a review on the Leica vs Canon did you switch back to canon? Thanks for the great review.
I am convinced Canon stripped away features from the EOS R to only add them back in the R6/R5 to make them seem like they are an upgrade (ergonomics, buttons, card slot). I'm thinking from a design stand point it would have been easier for them to carry over the same skeleton from an existing DSLR (wheel, joystick etc) but to drop the mirror box/optical view finder.

@@ayecreator I forgot to mention, you can buy a third party battery grip. It basically is just a battery grip - it has a shutter button, but requires a short cable from the grip to the remote port on camera and there's no shutter speed dial or other buttons. I just use the camera normally as though there was no battery grip. If you put that on your camera you'll have 2 batteries to help you get through a wedding. The pic at 4.13 could have used some fill flash
In the first two comparison pics I thought B looked a little softer, but couldn't tell the difference in the third one!
how can I use Eye tracking when shooting a couple? It only tracks 1 set of eyes and makes the other person out of focus
They are usually in the same plane of focus so it’s no that big of an issue.
