There is something 'real' about your content that I continue to love. We all know you've been mainly a Nikon shooter for a long time, and so much of todays camera review content is caught up in "the switch" hyperbole; you do a really good job of shying away from that and just speaking about the camera; I really respect that. Even going through the comments here you start to see the "are you switching?!" typical dribble. I love that you just talk about what worked for you and what had you worried. Not in comparison to your Nikon gear, but just in the context of its own. Good photographers focus on image quality last, because all the big brands are all producing more than satisfactory images. It's the way the camera feels, the way it 'works' alongside the photographers inputs, and how it makes your life easier in one way or another. Probably one of the better feedback/review videos I've seen in a really long time.
My boyfriend just gifted me this camera and I've always been a Nikon user! I have a Nikon d750 with various portrait lenses. But honestly I'm genuinely excited about going mirrorless and seeing this video has me genuinely optimistic that I will definitely be able to utilize it in the weddings that I am shooting next month! I'm thinking about going for the 85mm 1.2!
I've been a wedding shooter for 13 years. Always shot Nikon. Currently I'm shooting Nikon D810, as I've been hesitant to dip my toe in the mirrorless world. I like the D850 a lot and was considering it because I was skeptical (and underwhelmed) with the Nikon Z6 and Z7 initial offerings so I waited. Canon wasn't really an option because it meant I'd have to scrap all my good glass and switch platforms. Nikon's second attempt with the Z6 ii and Z7 ii with improved autofocus and tracking, still can't hold a candle to the EOS R5 and R6. I've made the decision to go with the R6 over the R7 for 2 reasons; I can't justify the $4K (USD) for the R5. The R6 price point was within my grasp along with RF 50mm 1.8, a 85mm, RF 85mm 2.8 and I'll have to limp along with a EF 70-200 with an EF/RF adapter until I can afford the RF. So they are all on order! I can still keep my D810 kit as it still has it's place and it still a somewhat relevant camera (to me anyway). Your review as a wedding shooter using the R6 helped cement what was originally a very difficult decision. Cheers from Cleveland OH. By the way, a link to where I can get those blasted lights would have been nice, since you mucked about with them so much.
Great review Taylor that was hilarious 😂 I currently own the 5D IV and hoped the R6 would be a great entry to mirrorless and pair well with the 5D IV. Fast frame rates, low light and mirrorless capabilities, paired with the higher resolution of the 5D for those print-worthy group photos. It seems ideal and I'm glad you rate the R6 highly, time to start saving up and bring in those weddings!!! 💪
One of the most useful videos on the R6 I have found. I've shot the 5D series for years utilizing the single AF point and choosing that point myself. It scares the hell out of me to give that up, but learning about the incredible AF system of this new camera makes me feel better. Hope to be able to try one out myself here soon. Thanks very much TJ.
finally someone who love this camera as much as i do. now it ever better with the firmware. u finally have dual video card recording. thank you for ur honesty. i often say that 20MP for weddings
Same here, love my 5dm4 and I picked up an R (solely for the eye auto focus) during Christmas, paired it with rf85 1.2 and rf 28-70 2.0. I want to like the R but I just don't. Every TH-cam video says it's the same sensor as the 5dm4 but it's clearly not as there are more noise at same iso and I can't push the colors compare to the 5dm4 during post. I would like to pick up either the r6 or r5 but the R leaves a negative impression on me with the mirrorless line up at the moment.
I've seen a handful of TH-cam photographers say that their 5dm4 that they've used for a decade now isn't as good at nailing tack sharp focus as the r5 and r6.
@@inspiretl The R6/R5 puts the R to shame... I shoot with 2 5dm4 for weddings but now going the R6 world. Do some youtube searches you will see plenty people talking about how fast the R6 focuses compare to 5D world.
I'm waiting for a sale and jumping on this one or the r5. I haven't decided. If I get the r6 then I have extra money for a lens...and I don't think I'll miss the mp honestly. I shot some of my best photos on the canon rebel t3i 18mp back in the day!
Thank you for sharing. Just purchased the R6 and looking forward to getting out and taking memories. Question? With all the brilliant RF lenses, first lens recommendation. Thank you.
Sanyang has a new RF 1.4 Autofocus Lens. I've used it and man is it good, so for the R Line users I'd recommend that over the Canon RF 85 1.2. I would be interested in what Taylor thought of it.
Interesting. I like that it weighs significantly less. I’d much prefer a 1.4 and less weight. I’ll see if anyone has one locally. Thanks for letting me know about it!
He made another video later stating that he shoots stills with the z6 ii but kept the r6 for video because of the fully articulating screen. Nikon makes amazing cameras and lenses. The bashing is unwarranted and silly. Some people are so gear-focused, they talk about switching all the time instead of learning to use what they have. All of these companies are making great cameras these days.
Hi Taylor. Thanks for your review. Really like your channel! I've saw too many photographer and youtuber who use Nikon or Canon or Sony then hate all the other brands. You talked about Nikon, Fuji and Canon and really pointed their pros and cons in real situation. In the end, forgive my poor English LOL.
I'm a real estate photographer and have toyed with the idea of shooting weddings. I'm a Canon person and I've been considering the purchase of the R6 which is one of the main reasons I watched this video. I'm very happy to see the results of your work in this video. I'm just a little unclear about something you said about focusing. Did you say you shot the entire wedding in auto focus mode? Thanks in advance for your response and thanks so much for this video. I really appreciate the information.
This was useful, thanks Taylor. One query: You said the AF is great, and the camera always seems to know what your subject is. Can I ask the AF setting you were using? Thanks
Great video. I'm not happy with my A7r iv and want to switch back to Canon. How was focusing in low light using flash photography? Was it hunting a lot?

It doesn't overheat if you are just shooting photos. It also doesn't overheat if you shoot 4k 30p to an atomos ninja V. It does overheat shooting 4K 30 internally. It overheats with shooting 4k 60 internally or externally.
What about the lack of top-facing screen which displays your camera settings?! That just seems kinda strange to me, coming from using the 5D series for the past decade, the way I shoot it I am always messing with my camera settings (ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed) and looking directly at that top-facing screen while I'm doing that. How do you change your settings without that upward facing screen there?!

Hi there, I am here to make a request to you to make a new video on a comparison Between Godox V1 vs Godox V860II with a Magmod Magsphere mounted on the V860II. The reason i am requesting to make this video is that v1 is more costly compared to v860II. They implemented the concept in one of their cameras in the 80s. Cool idea but risky to to use. If you don't look exactly where you want to focus (checking the borders for framing etc.) you risk to randomly loose the focus. I'll bet on A.I. And scene recognition.

I need some low light samples to play with to see how far can I go with noise reduction,
thanks in advance
Raw files will be coming this week! They’re uh...impressive to say the least haha
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto you are very humble, I thought you won't reply xD
thanks a lot, can't wait please upload it asap xD
@@MaFia4DvD4aRaB You went from being humble to be demanding asap haha
@@viperstinger77 that escalated quickly xD
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto any updates?
What picture style (jpeg profile) do you use for your SOOC shots
I think it’s usually just at standard
Thank you for sharing!! I have an R6 on the way and I am super excited 😁 did you shoot the wedding in jpeg or is that just how you shared them?? If jpeg why not raw?
I shoot wedding in jpeg,
@@fangli is there an advantage to that? Doesn't jpeg limit what you can do when editing?
@@DaveTheBowler when i shoot my first job/paid job like wedding / when i was a beginner , i always shoot raw, when i shoot under/over not right Wb i can fix in Light room
but now i shoot jpeg only, shoot raw just make my HDD getting full fast
Wow I've always heard shoot Raw all the time
I always shoot raw as well. Figured it was best to show the jpgs as samples rather than my edits
I’m waiting for you to review the Z5 but based on what you said on a previous video and what you’ve said here, Nikon still have a little way to go.
I’ll have a bunch of Z5 videos up this week!
Taylor Jackson I’ll wait for that then! Keep smashing the content, and dropping “Frames” into your videos🤣
Canon has a patent what it says that where you move your eye in the wievfinder there it focuses....what if it is in the camera?
They implemented the concept in one of their cameras in the 80s. Cool idea but risky to to use. If you don't look exactly where you want to focus (checking the borders for framing etc.) you risk to randomly loose the focus. I'll bet on A.I. And scene recognition.
Ok, here I am writing this comment after being 1 minute into this video. I just had to say that your intro is just fucking awesome :')
Wasn't expecting that.
Didn't you have any problems with overheating during hybrid shooting? I had big problems with the r5. The camera is therefore unusable from my point of view ... Greetings from Switzerland, Cyrill
Haven’t had any problems with overheating. The firmware update not fix it for you?
2:53 And they did!)
Well thanks for writing the anthem of my life...
Did you try to hybrid shoot with r6? how fast is switch from photo to video?
It’s instant since it’s just a button to start recording. From what I can tell it loads you into a somewhat auto video mode though, so trying to figure that out before making official comments on it
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto thank you! you are the best!I will wait for your full hybrid workflow review in comparison with d850. I was thinking of switching to nikon to make my life easier shooting photo and video
Are you going to switch to Canon?
Nope. The Z6ii will likely be my main for next year
The overheating of R6 with video is near to none existent compared to the more expensive option.
Thanks for the Intel. I have my R6 body in hand. Waiting for the 24_105 L lens in the mail, tho 😟🙈
Samyang have a RF 85 f1.4 lens for $700 for the Canon RF system that has very good reviews. Have a look a Dustin Abbots review of that lens
I got the 14 and really enjoy it. Might look into the 85
Yes!!!!
thanks for this perfect review!
indeed always talking about 4K and overheating, but never over 1080 and the images you have then hardly anyone does!
a 6k sensor that records 1080 without overheating is worth more to me.
And the photos are extraordinarily sharp and beautiful, if I had not seen your review I would never have wanted to buy this camera! But now I do and I already save a little extra for the more expensive lenses!
I was always a Nikon fan and now I have to make the right choice.
Please make more reviews in the future so I can follow them, maybe your findings and settings if you know the camera better ;-)
I also like canon camera
How come you're shooting JPG?
Lightroom and raw converters didn’t support the raw files yet
Also you have alot of plants man. I approve!
How's Z5 ?
Ty!
Thank you. Thank you
There is a 14 2.8 prime for RF
I have one in the mail! Excited to try it
Weirdo on a Hill - New song by Ted Sheeran. Available now.
Ted Sheeran would be a great stage name
Have you tried the Nikon D6 yet?
😁👍
Q: why did you shoot a wedding in jpeg?
I didn’t
If only it was 36mp or so
It’s such a great file that 20 is totally fine for weddings
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto if I shot only weddings absolutely. But for an all around camera it leaves some mps to be desired.
Dang that boque is on steroids!
