Food look nice, a tip for getting the “sexy looking dumpling” as you call it 😂 is to allow the dough to rest 30 minutes or more before shaping and cooking. Resting the dough will allow the gluten in the flour to relax, just like allowing a steak to rest before cutting to retain the juices inside the meat. That will give the dumpling a smooth surface. Respect

It's kinda similar especially in its name but this dish has its roots in colonial Jamaica...this dish is extremely Jamaican🤷🏾♂️
