You *can* get the higher spec Fabia with the 150bhp 1.5Tsi engine, plus the optional sports suspension pack. Last time I looked, you could also specify disc brakes on the rear wheels if you wanted them...
Looks great! Sensible, comfortable and clever as always from Skoda👌 Love my 16 1.4tdi estate, pity this one doesn't come in diesel so I can't upgrade in a few years 🙃
It seems odd Skodas aren't sold in the US and Canada, as they could readily use the VW service network. Skoda use VW engines, transmissions and many other VW parts. VW have owned Skoda for 20+ years..... Here in Europe, Skoda consistently achieve higher customer ratings than VW in ownership surveys. Build quality seems every bit as good as VW, and occasionally even better.....
@Brian The reason is it would lower VW sales and compete with them. At the end of the day, Skoda is managed by the VW group for which the Skoda is simply an "economy" brand that doesn't get the same high specs features (polo with a 2.0L petrol) and permission to enter other markets such as the US or Canada.
I loved my 66 plate Fabia and this seems to have made a lot of nice little improvements. If I needed another practicable, affordable car it would be my first choice, even if it is a good chunk more expensive now! I might be tempted to just go for the older model though, given the price difference...
The new fabia looks really nice! Would pick this over the polo any day (would pick the estate/combi though). Having driven both VW and Skoda cars, I must say I disagree with the cruise control stick - I much prefer it over having it being placed on the steering wheel. With the stick, I can enable/change settings even if I'm doing a turn.
I feel like no electric version is a good thing, this platform is not designed for ev-s so it shouldn't be an option. Besides, Skoda already offers a similarly sized ev already.
On Skoda's website in the UK smallest seem to be 15s, with highest trims defaulting to 16" alloys of the same design in the review. I'd probably go with 16s, they don't look about right size-wise and still leave a nice bit of sidewall.
14 inches is too small... Hurts braking distance, lateral grip and makes steering sluggish... I would probably go for 16 inches... Everything over it, it's an overkill in this category of cars.
Hey @carwow. I think it will be good if Matt can also include the cost of ownership for a car in his reviews. Cost of normal servicing (interim and Full) also the monthly plan cost for service plans provided by the manufacturer. Just a suggestion
Matt at 3:02 not feeling inspired: 'So, there are lots of shapes and surfaces going on.' (I wouldn't be sending this in as your Top Gear audition showreel, Matt.) 😂
Bad news on that front - like there was no vRS version of the Mk3 Fabia, there will NOT be a vRS version of this new Mk4 Fabia either. This is because although demand for a vRS version of the Fabia would be strong in the UK and Germany (where it would be badged as an RS), unfortunately, as there wouldn’t be enough demand elsewhere, that wouldn’t be enough to build a strong enough business case for a new Fabia vRS.
@@joshbacon8241 I think its because of the VAG politics. They dont want GTI Polo customers considering Fabia RS. In central and eastern Europe people dont mind Skoda badges. The car would be almost the same, but with lower price tag and a bit more practical. For the same reason you can only get Octavia RS 245 hp and fwd, oposed to Golf R or Leon Cupra even though its the same engine. IMO Volkswagen is kinda pissed that Skoda is doing so well sales wise...
That's Skoda through and through. My first Fabia Estate (2001) had features I hadn't seen on other cars. It had a little clip on the driver's windscreen pillar, to hold a pass or parking ticket. It had 2 sliding cubbies under the front seats, which held quite a bit. And there were substantial folding hooks in the boot, to hold full carrier bags. I also liked the shelf in the glovebox.
I've owned this car for over a year now and it's such a nice experience. If I were to describe it in one word, it'd say it's simply "pleasant". Quiet, smooth, comfortable and smart; but at the same time punchy enough if you need a quick overtake (note: I did go for the 110 bhp version). My only complaint - Skoda messed up my order and didn't install heated seats - such a shame. But the car itself is an absolute gem "D
With the 1.5tsi this will be pretty quick...380l boot!? That's what my Audi A3 sportback had😱 Škoda made another class leader for sure... basically Audi A1 for much much cheaper...badge snobs will disagree and yes Audi will feel more premium for sure but as a transport vehicle this is unrivaled 👌
There’s nothing premium about the Audi A1. The interior is dreadful for an Audi and it’s a way overpriced car. The Fabia makes a hell of a lot more sense
380 litre boot is/was the same capacity as a Golf Mk7...... Sod the badge snobs. A current Skoda is probably built better than what they're driving.....
Thank you for this review. My take: Normal (incandescent) bulbs are not "bleh". At least when they malfunction (i.e. burn out) you don't need an engineer's degree/ pay a technician to solve the problem. Also with the infotainment sys: smaller screen is less distraction - you won't be fidgeting with it at 60 mph, going down the highway. Analogue gauges with a smaller "maxi-dot" screen are also not "bleh". During driving, one does not need the fine details of a live football match displayed on the dash. (RPMs, speed, coolant temp, fuel level, consumption/ eco mode and outside temp is more than enough).
Smaller mirror, aerodynamic wheels, active grill and so on for better aerodynamics (0.28 Cd). I not complaining but the previous Opel Astra have 0.26Cd with nothing of that! 🙇
In fairness though the Fabia's smaller, it competes with the Corsa. Given the Astra's bigger I guess they got more space to be aerodynamic without sacrificing interior space as much?
@@alexanderstefanov6474 it’s not bias. Anyone who has ever been in a vag product over this closest competition, Ford, you would see how much better it is. Not to mention pricing is the same if not cheaper when you go for SEAT or Skoda and resale values are better.
This is so much more useful for both your brand and us as customers to your service. Please make more videos of cars that normal people can actually purchase, instead of premium vehicles that only retired people with a lot of savings or spoiled kids can get.
Better looking than a Golf with nearly all the tech, similar space and with a non-irritating interior! The default answer to the question "What car should I buy?" has always been "VW Golf" but now it should be "Fabia"
Fun fact about petrol powered turbocharged gen III and supposedly gen IV Fabias: They're amazingly capable at dealing with small twisty roads. Because the whole suspension and chassis thingies are actually quite well done and the small engine is so light, it goes through tight corners like a knife through butter. It's such fun to see people driving cars with at least twice as many horsepowers confused because they just can't shake the small humble Fabia off :D Then of course they'll beat you at the first long straight...

Looks great! Sensible, comfortable and clever as always from Skoda👌 Love my 16 1.4tdi estate, pity this one doesn't come in diesel so I can't upgrade in a few years 🙃
They should've just made the 1.4 TDI. A decent diesel engine!
Skoda's always look so damn good, I wish we had them in Canada
I own this car and I recommend it to anyone. The only bad thing is the turbo lag but you get that everywhere nowadays
I drive a 2008 fabia and I’m just crazy about that car one of the best and most fun to drive cars ever made
This is a amazing car
STEADY ON ...LOL
I feel like no electric version is a good thing, this platform is not designed for ev-s so it shouldn't be an option. Besides, Skoda already offers a similarly sized ev already.
Which?
Škoda has only one EV and that is Enyaq - literally the biggest car they make, there was also citigo ev, but that was very small.
If they made the Scala EV and it's a great deal!
i'd much rather get the 14s for comfort and price than the 18" wheels
Here in Bulgaria, even the highest spec come with 15" alloys, you can option the bigger ones but I wouldn't
@@dukinse5198 lateral grip on an econobox...
At most it will add a bit of extra roll which is not that much of a concern
Worth the tradeoff in my eyes
@@andreiuul1 you are right about the extra roll part... But it's good to have some extra grip even in a econobox imo
I drove this car today. Surprisingly, it's comfy over bumps, better than Corolla or C-HR
I really love this! I've had a few Skodas, mostly Superbs, and I've had no issues. They're brilliant 👏 This one looks amazing for a small car
I really Really like the Fabia, it's good looking inside and out, and that Coppery colour is Stunning
Hey @carwow. I think it will be good if Matt can also include the cost of ownership for a car in his reviews. Cost of normal servicing (interim and Full) also the monthly plan cost for service plans provided by the manufacturer. Just a suggestion
always was a fan of the fabia.... quite nice cars for the money....
This is a amazing hatchback
Matt at 3:02 not feeling inspired: 'So, there are lots of shapes and surfaces going on.' (I wouldn't be sending this in as your Top Gear audition showreel, Matt.) 😂
They need a vrs version
Hopefully one day!
@@ondrej2565 “They don’t want Polo customers considering Fabia RS.”
Because then Polo GTI sales would plummet…
Amen
My Skoda Fabia 1.2 htp from 2005 is still alive and kicking! With almost 300.000km = 187.000 miles! Oh yeah!
@@My_te sure! Got it wrong there....thanks!
Why tf would anyone want an electric fabia. I'm so happy that they made a 1.5 liter! Finally a fabia with some horsepower
11:41 what did you do to that glass
Finally normal peoples car, we are not all yannimize here ...
Thank goodness!
Wait until you see the price! Yes, starting from £15k but the Fabia you really want will fly well over £25k!
That windscreen wash cap is so simple yet so useful!
When you gonna do a review on the new polo r line 2022.
Your bigger boot link in suggested links dont work. Why put them there?
Nobody:
*Matt mentioning his galaxy fold in every video*
I've owned this car for over a year now and it's such a nice experience. If I were to describe it in one word, it'd say it's simply "pleasant". Quiet, smooth, comfortable and smart; but at the same time punchy enough if you need a quick overtake (note: I did go for the 110 bhp version). My only complaint - Skoda messed up my order and didn't install heated seats - such a shame. But the car itself is an absolute gem "D
Matt, you should replace Daniel Craig for the next bond movie.
Nice review !
Thank you, Matt! These videos always bring a little smile.
Best feature is actually the mechanical handbrake imo
I have the previous gen. 2015 estate version with 1.2 TSI 90 PS 5 speed manual. A lovely car which is usable and practical. I love it.
With the 1.5tsi this will be pretty quick...380l boot!? That's what my Audi A3 sportback had😱
Škoda made another class leader for sure... basically Audi A1 for much much cheaper...badge snobs will disagree and yes Audi will feel more premium for sure but as a transport vehicle this is unrivaled 👌
Astra K is a great underrated car, but it's not VAG so UK journos are biased
In fairness though the Fabia's smaller, it competes with the Corsa. Given the Astra's bigger I guess they got more space to be aerodynamic without sacrificing interior space as much?
@@alexanderstefanov6474 it’s not bias. Anyone who has ever been in a vag product over this closest competition, Ford, you would see how much better it is. Not to mention pricing is the same if not cheaper when you go for SEAT or Skoda and resale values are better.
@@alexanderstefanov6474 Yup, they're great, especially with the 1.6 CDTI engine. Pretty powerful and really economical.
This is so much more useful for both your brand and us as customers to your service. Please make more videos of cars that normal people can actually purchase, instead of premium vehicles that only retired people with a lot of savings or spoiled kids can get.
Very practical car ✅
Better looking than a Golf with nearly all the tech, similar space and with a non-irritating interior! The default answer to the question "What car should I buy?" has always been "VW Golf" but now it should be "Fabia"
Brilliant car. For the price, I absolutely love it.
Same with my Ibiza FR, plenty of punch and pin sharp handling😀
We had a Fabia back here in India during the early 2010's .
It was an SUV 😅
Was it the Yeti?
@@glennchinyangarara8225 we had the Yeti, as well as the Fabia.
The fabia was marketed as a crossover SUV!
11:03 just love that he is trying to hit a wasp with his 1000+ £ phone
Gonna say this is Liam Hemsworth… Same genes, just lower Gross Value. Hunger Games vs Avengers.
😨
Nah because that would make the ibiza luke Hemsworth and everyone knows he's the worst brother like the fabia is the worst polo esk vehicle
@@memebo1922 Obviously not paying attention… Matt’s comparing this car to the Polo, same parent company, different looks, just about.
@@memebo1922 For me Luke is better than Liam...
@@smoketinytom the polo, ibiza and fabia all share the same chassis and engines
Screw the bad things you said about VW polo, cause that’s a good car
We need a review on the new rs3
This Fabia as a hybrid... Would be a dream come true. Get it done, Škoda!
Skoda please bring back the Fabia VRS! 🙏
Huge difference between this and previous edition, brilliant Fabia !!!

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Dude for crying out loud its a 15k£ car, of course there's plastic, nobody actually even cares if there's plastic. Tell me if the screen is responsive and works without stuttering, tell me if the seats make your back and ass sweat during a 1-hour long drive, tell me if there's parking sensors! For the love of god get over yourselves with the stupid "oh look plastic, what a big deal" crap
talk about really important stuff like the difference between trim levels and whether you think they're worth the money! nobody expects to see nappa leather & Alcantara lining on a f.cking skoda fabia, so stop wasting everyone's time
As an owner of a 2018 Fabia I noticed a LOT of improvements. The space is the most noticeable.
Are you going to have new Polo as well? Comparsion should be interesting between new Fabia and new Polo (For me Polo wins)
