Would you rather have this Skoda Fabia (£18,500) or an MG4 (£26,995)? 🤔

You're comparing a c segment EV with 170bhp to a basic version of a b segment supermini with 95hp and a manual gearbox. Compare the MG4 to a DSG golf with at least 150hp.

    • @Draigthedragon
      @Draigthedragon ปีที่แล้ว +6

Have recently moved from a '15 Fabia to a MG4. So that's my answer! The Fabia is a great car. If anything, it's losing it's USP by going too up market. It's very reliable, low cost maintenance, reasonable if a bit boring to drive, comfortable and provided good mpg. Mine was also only £20 a year tax. My first new car, 15 years ago, was a Seat Ibiza and that was similarly great.
But the EV is fantastic to drive, more spacious, better fitted out and, in the long run, will provide better economy - even with the price rises in electric. I would say, the Corsa-e is a fairer comparison and the discounts available make it a very competitive price.

As with Alexander Stefanov's comment earlier - you're simply not comparing like-for-like cars with that question...!
To match anything even close to the performance of the MG4, with an auto gearbox, you'd have to be looking at the 150PS Monte Carlo DSG - even then, it's 0.5 seconds slower.
But, then add on the options of sat nav and adaptive cruise which come as standard on the MG4 and you're talking of the Fabia costing around £25,300...! 😵

This is all that anyone needs in crowded, speedcam ridden Britain, 4 doors, 5 seats, lots of space in the boot, reliable, well priced, economical. What size lorry do you need to take the kids to school or go shopping? 90 percent of drives fit this pattern for 90 percent of people. SO, lets save the planet and our personal economy. Great, intelligent, well presented, gimmick free review. THANK YOU for reviewing the lowest level trim, this is hardly ever done. This is the right choice for most people.

Fantastic comment. Im 54, I have a Dacia Sandero which is a shopping car really, not the best transmission on it which is why I want an upgrade. Skodas are fantastic cars and as you say, what more does anyone need ? In the UK its all about image. People are obsessed with what others think about their choice of car. An attention seeking narcissistic society. At my age I have no interest in fancy labels or brands. I like comfort, economy and something that is engaging to drive and not pay a lot for it. This Fabia ticks those boxes.

Fabia will always be decent car but throwing away that kind of money for any car in this class is insane. Prices of new cars are 30-50% more than they used to be 1 or 2 years ago, but our salaries are almost the same or maybe 5% higher than they used to be.
Something is shady in car industry and that has nothing to do with war in Ukraine or chip shortages!

Yes they’re expensive for a ‘base’ spec but they’re not as Spartan as base specs from 10-15 years ago. Thanks to PCP people don’t really buy base specs anymore if it’s just a little more on the monthly figure. In poorer EU countries like Greece/Portugal where PCPs arent really a thing, much cheaper base spec models are available. Not excusing the ridiculous prices of new cars but that is a big reason of it

Except the safety gadgets and more space not a lot to prove high price. Same material quality, same engines, five speed gearbox. Way to expensive. As someone said my salary is 5% bigger for the past 3 years and yet the price of the cars are almost 50% higher. And yes, nothing to do with corona virus and chip shortages.

As most new cars are either on personal contract hire or pcp with minimal deposit all people are more focused on the monthly payment rather than the car price. Maybe allowing manufacturers to increase their profit margins.

For the life of me I haven't been able to work out why anyone who has mental capacity would buy a Skoda. I remember costing up a fabia/ Scala and then compared it to the Golf 8 3 years ago, and realized, for 50 quid extra per month Im getting a Golf with the latest tech and equipment, and with the skoda i was getting a 3 cylinder engine and a umbrella and ice remover.
Im now driving an Audi, but Skoda got their UK pricing completely wrong.
I was literally ready to buy a skoda and then just logically realized why buy one when a VW is the same price more or less and VW's are much much better cars. Quieter more refined.

Not cheap in my opinion, but none of them are these days! The Skoda Fabia seems to me to be the only car in existence in the UK, which has not been too much spoilt in design change since its inception. But like all cars, the addition of ever more expensive computerized electrics and entertainment devices over the years, to my mind remain a big drawback.

It was a quiet night in the small town when a Skoda Fabia with 1 million kilometers on the clock rolled into the gas station. The car was old and worn, but still running surprisingly well. As the driver filled up the tank, he noticed something strange outside. It was a rhinoceros, running down the street, chasing after the car.
At first, the driver thought it was a hallucination or a strange dream. But as the rhino got closer, he could see that it was real. The animal was massive, with a thick coat of fur and razor-sharp horns. It was barreling down the street, heading straight for the Fabia.
The driver jumped in the car and slammed on the gas, trying to outrun the rhino. But no matter how fast he went, the animal kept pace, getting closer and closer with each passing second. The driver could feel the car shaking under the weight of the rhino's charge.
As they raced through the streets, the driver realized that the rhino wasn't chasing him because of anything he had done. The animal was fixated on the car itself, as if it was hunting it down for some unknown reason.
The rhino slammed into the side of the car, denting the metal and causing the car to spin out of control. The driver struggled to regain control of the vehicle, but it was no use. The rhino continued to pursue them relentlessly, trampling anything in its path.
In a moment of desperation, the driver slammed on the brakes and jumped out of the car. The rhino charged towards him, its horns gleaming in the moonlight. But just as it was about to strike, the car exploded in a shower of metal and flames.
The driver watched in horror as the rhino charged into the flaming wreckage, disappearing into the flames. He realized too late that the car was cursed, haunted by some unknown force that had driven the rhino to destroy it.
From that day on, the driver never spoke of his encounter with the rhino. He knew that no one would believe him, and he didn't want to tempt fate by telling the tale. But in the quiet of his mind, he could still hear the rhino's thundering hooves, chasing after him in his dreams.

Nowadays ICE cars hardly harm the planet, they all have filters and exhaust fumes go back in the engine to be used for combustion again. I hardly think a big heavy Tesla is better for the environment than a small ICE car like this with a small engine.
