    Great job on the video. The manufacturers need to link and promote these types of repair tips. It would help consumers and also mitigate the volume of negative product reviews from frustrated but very justified complainers.

    Good video on this POS refrigerator. Bought this same fridge 4 years ago and the freezer light has gone out 4 times. (Update: I have now owned this refrigerator for another year and have replaced the freezer LED a total of 7 times now.) I've ordered 2 LED panels from Amazon since they go out so often. About $14.00 each. House call to repair would have cost me about $120 per visit. I thought the whole idea of using LED's was reliability. 20,000 hours or so. I had a 18 year old GE with a plane ole appliance light bulb in the freezer Never had to replace it. Who's bright idea was it to wire these in series with the top refrigeration section?

    My whirlpool bought 5 years ago is doing very similar. First the freezer light went out. Then a few days later the top lights went dim. Side lights still work normal. Must be something about the freezer killing led lights. I will give this a try. Thanks for your video.

    This was a huge help. I got the Whirlpool people to fix it once when they claimed the same thing your did... it's been about 18 months since that fix, and the freezer one went out again. I know the top ones will stop soon as it did last time staggered. I swapped a top one with the bottom one. The bottom came on, and all but the broken one on top came on for a bit, then they all went out (except for the sides). I ordered a new one labeled as an upgrade off Amazon to change out the freezer one. Should have it fixed. Thanks again for the heads up on this.

    You’re smart! Sounds like car dealerships. I’ve got a GE that’s 2019 the freezer LED went out about a month ago and I miss it! Plus I pay it off in just days. I knew my lights weren’t covered. I live alone my brother used to fix all my stuff and he passed in 2018. This is the first video I’ve seen on any LED replacement.
    A nice local repair guy FaceTimed me and walked thru part of it. The cover on mine is large plastic and held on by a single Phillips head at very top. It was east to remove. This GE takes a part so small it’s 1/2” by 4” and the plug with red wire looks just like yours. It then snaps on to a plastic bar. The part I ordered from ShopJimmy for $13 + 4 s&h my local appliance parts wanted $70!
    I’m going to try to do a video. Thanks for posting, wish me luck!

    This worked for me. Same situation. Kitchenaid fridge. The lights at the top and in the freezer went out. I replaced the lower freezer light only and everything worked again. Thanks!
    You do not need to remove the front door or anything. You can replace the led by pulling the top shelf in the freezer forward to give you enough room to access it. (I'm not an expert though, I'm not liable for any issues!)

    My refrigerator is a Kitchenaid but the layout is pretty much the same, especially the LED light arrangement. Interestingly on mine it’s also the freezer light that went out.
    A few months ago one morning I noticed that the top lights became dimmer, though still on. I was quite puzzled but didn’t try anything. Finally last week the freezer light went out completely. The top lights are still in the same dim state though.
    With your video now I understand that these are on the same circuit. I tried to remove the freezer light so I could look at it and get the correct part number.
    Question: does your freezer light have some sticky plastic film inside the hole? Mine does and it seems to be sealing the plastic connector inside so I couldn’t pull it out. Assuming yours is the same, did you just rip that plastic film out of there?
    During my messing with the light, surprisingly it came back on. And sure enough the top lights started acting normal. I was ecstatic and went to tell the wife the good news, only to find out that it went out again.
    I think the light is still good but the connector isn’t seated right. I’m hoping to pull it out of there completely so I can connect it right.

    • @williamvargas9721
      @williamvargas9721 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As you said, it could be the connection. Maybe once you take it all the way out and reconnect it it will stay on. What I recall when I pulled mine out was the foam insulation. The foam was on the back side of the light but other folks have commented the foam was all over the light and it was a pain to pull the light our. I wonder if the foam got into the connector. Also, I would greatly appreciate it if you like the video and subscribe to my channel. Thank you.

    • @neverneatgarage
      @neverneatgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a bit awkward since it’s so low and a bit deep in the freezer. But you can use a flat head screw driver, putty knife or plastic trim tool that car guys use to remove door panels from cars. Once you have a bit of a gap you can grab it with your finger tips. The old light my have some of that spray form installation stuck to it. Hope that helps.

      I didn’t experience blinking. In my case, all the top lights were out but with the center of LED lights having a faint glow. Thanks for sharing. I have this model (WRF757SDHZ) similar to yours. My lights are out right now except the 4 lights on the side just like yours. However, I have been having a couple of other issues where the warranty company keeps sending people out to fix the fridge and they can't really find out the real cause. They just keep replacing parts which solves nothing. There is moisture build up on top of the gasket of the freezer door. They replaced the gasket of the top doors, the heater mullen twice, the freezer door, a board on the back of the fridge. Once came out yesterday to tell me he does not see anything wrong with the fridge that needs to be fixed and that he thinks the lights are out because the freezer door does not close properly and the lights stay on all the time.
    Does anyone experience this issue? They fixed the ice maker earlier tjis year. Now it's not working again. Any idea is well appreciated. Those so-called techs are doing the guessing work here. This is very frustrating. Thanks all!

Sometimes there is more than one sticker inside the frig so make sure you are looking at the right one. Once you have the make and model just Google “LED light for Kitchen Aid model…” and something should come up. I have a KitchenAid KRFF507HPS with the same issue. I have had factory service out on 4 separate occasions to replace the LED module under warranty. They continue to use the same part number as the factory has not updated sourced another manufacturer for the LED module. I have owned the refrigerator since Sept 2019. Have you had any subsequent failures?

    Our fridge just did this too. Now I’m going to check and see if it is the freezer light. Same fridge. Must be a problem with them. Do you have American Home Shield home warranty? Just curious because that’s who we have

    • @neverneatgarage
      @neverneatgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I have a American Home Shield and when they sent their technician they said it was the light board then American home shield informed me that they would not cover the light board and it would cost me $400 to repair. So that’s when I decided to troubleshoot the issue myself and figured out that the lights are configured just like Christmas tree lights; when one goes out, they all go out and that’s when I noticed the freezer LED light was out. Bought the replacement LED light for $14 and fixed it myself. Someone on the channel told me someone was charging them even more to fix it, but they followed my video and saved the money. Also, if you can like the video and subscribe to my channel, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

      Sorry, I don’t. Like I mentioned in video I noticed that of the 6 lights, 5 had a small glimmer of light still visible and one didn’t and that had no glimmer of light was the bad one. I don’t know if this applies to all LED refrigerators but that’s how figured it out. I’m wondering if in your case it’s actually the LED control panel that is bad. In that case you may have to call in a tech to see if that is the case. I wish I could have been more help but if you do figure it out let me know. Take care and good luck.
